00:00
Hi, congratulations.
00:01
This movie is incredible, and yeah.
00:02
How's your day going so far?
00:03
It was good.
00:04
Yeah?
00:04
Yeah.
00:05
I actually got to sleep last night, which I never do before.
00:07
I didn't.
00:07
Press junket.
00:11
Well, that's intense.
00:16
So during the making of the first Guardians of the Galaxy,
00:18
you talked about constructing a Bible that really
00:21
kind of defined certain, both the past, present, and future
00:23
of kind of the Marvel Cosmic Universe.
00:26
I'm curious how those ideas and kind of what
00:28
was going to evolve into volume two wound up changing
00:30
into the movie that we see.
00:32
Well, I mean, you know, a lot of it didn't change.
00:34
I mean, I think the basics of the relationship between Peter
00:37
Quill and Yondu and Ego and all of them, and Kraglin,
00:41
and all those characters we set down in the first movie,
00:44
that all is pretty consistent with the Bible
00:47
that I gave to Kevin Feige in the first film.
00:52
After all these years, I've found you.
00:56
And who the hell are you?
00:58
I'm your dad, Peter.
01:01
You mentioned Ego.
01:02
How early on did you actually know that Ego was going to be
01:04
Starla's father?
01:05
You're the first person I'm telling this.
01:07
I knew who Ego was as a character.
01:09
I knew what he was able to do.
01:12
But I didn't initially know I was going to use Ego the Living
01:16
Planet as that character, if that makes sense.
01:18
Yeah.
01:19
But it was pretty early that I knew it was Ego.
01:21
But I didn't share that with Kevin until after Guardians 1 made
01:26
so much money.
01:27
And that's when I came in and said, OK, I think his dad is going
01:29
to be this living planet.
01:30
So is it just because it was an outlandish idea?
01:32
I thought it was an outlandish idea.
01:33
I thought maybe they would balk at the idea of making Ego the
01:36
Living Planet as his parent.
01:38
But yeah, the first movie, you do kind of capitalize on the weirds so
01:41
much that I guess it gives you some level of credibility.
01:43
I mean, I think that you trust people through a couple of different ways.
01:47
One is you learn to trust them through the kind of job that they do
01:52
and how responsible they are, which I think I'm both.
01:55
I hope that I'm good at my job and I'm responsible and that I come under
01:59
budget and I do what I can to do that.
02:01
And then the other way is to see how the public likes what they do.
02:05
And the second one is what I waited for.
02:07
So we're saving the galaxy again.
02:10
Yep.
02:11
Awesome.
02:13
We're really going to be able to jack up our prices for two-time Galaxy Savers.
02:17
And I mean, in terms of just the future, I know that you are involved with Infinity War.
02:20
You are serving as a producer, helping work on the script.
02:22
How is that same Bible kind of applying to that?
02:25
Well, I think of, you know, Infinity War is sort of a stopgap for the, you know,
02:29
for the Guardians.
02:30
They're supporting players in an Avengers movie.
02:32
And so they will remain who they are and they'll remain true to themselves within that film.
02:38
But in terms of the larger story of the Guardians, you know,
02:41
I think a lot of that is going to come as we move forward in the MCU.
02:45
One thing I do have to ask about is the Stanley Watcher scene because it blew my mind, A.
02:50
But I'm just, I'm curious if you could talk about just the implication of it because
02:53
thinking about the cameos in other Marvel movies, not MCU,
02:57
there's a certain kind of connectivity there, no?
02:59
Perhaps, perhaps.
03:01
I mean, I think people will need to infer from it what they infer.
03:04
But yes, I mean, I'm definitely aware of the, you know, he's doing some work for the Watchers.
03:10
I love that.
03:11
And that might be, that might apply to our own universe, in fact.
03:14
I was about to say, yeah, sure.
03:15
He's just another Watcher within this multiverse.
03:17
I saw Stan yesterday.
03:17
There you go.
03:18
Perfect.
03:18
Hey, wait, where are you going?
03:21
Hey, you were supposed to be my Lyft home.
03:24
Well, I mean, actually, just kind of on that concept, I mean, five post-credit scenes is,
03:28
that's a new thing for Marvel.
03:30
I mean, was that something you had to convince them on?
03:32
I mean, what was the process there?
03:33
They thought it was hilarious.
03:34
No, no, I didn't have to convince them at all.
03:36
I'm like, you know, let's just, people love post-credit scenes, so let's just do five of them.
03:41
They're like, okay.
03:42
You're kind of setting the bar high for everybody else.
03:44
Yeah.
03:44
Do you have a favorite amongst them?
03:45
The, you know, honestly, probably the first, the Kraglin one is probably my favorite because
03:53
he's just so funny in that scene.
03:56
That's great.
03:56
Well, very cool.
03:57
Well, thanks again for talking to me.
03:58
Thanks.
04:00
All you do is yell at each other.
04:02
You are not friends.
04:05
No, we're family.
04:15
What's up?
04:30
You, I'm the one I'm the one I'm the one I'm the one I'm the one I'm the one I'm the one I'm.
04:33
Yeah.
04:33
I'll tell you or look around.
04:34
I'll tell you all are new.
04:35
I'm the one you, that's perfect for you.
04:37
So let's do haze.
