00:00Tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in Brussels on Sunday

00:06to protest against the Israeli government and to draw a symbolic red line for Gaza.

00:13Gathered in the heart of the European Union,

00:16participants called on EU member states to impose firm sanctions against Israel.

00:23Similar pro-Palestine demonstrations took place across Europe in recent weeks.

00:27It comes in response to Israel's expanded offensive in Gaza

00:31and the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Strip.

00:37Local police estimated around 70,000 demonstrators took part in the second edition of Brussels' Red Line for Gaza March.

00:45But event organizers estimate 110,000 people attended the protest.

00:50It comes just days after Belgium announced it would recognize the Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly later this month,

01:00thereby joining France in the United Kingdom.

01:03It also said it would impose sanctions on Israel under certain conditions.

01:08Protest organizers say it is public pressure like this that is what leads to government action

01:14and are now hoping that other member states, as well as the European Union itself, follow suit.
