In a new series of videos I will make some anti-corruption progress reports on major Birmingham, Alabama healthcare provider UAB (University Of Alabama Birmingham). This comes 6 months following their $450m USD buyout of Ascension's St. Vincent's hospitals in the area. With this acquisition comes an opportunity to rebrand and wash away debts and transgressions Ascension / St. Vincent's incurred against local patient's / customers in the area without facing accountability.

Today I will examine Community Health Clinic Christ Health Center. More than 2 years following a recorded telephone conversation with their attorney & compliance officer Deborah Pickens I have yet to receive a letter by postal mail detailing the findings of their internal investigation into my case.

Meanwhile, the clinic continues to expand, routinely soliciting new employees via ads posted to the internet. In June, 2006 a new Pediatric clinic has opened near the new YMCA at Northeast Community YMCA 628 Red Lane Road Birmingham, AL 35215 (205.833.7616).

I also read some new reviews. Patients to both the Woodlawn & Chalkville clinics report customer service issues which ended in Christ Health hanging up the phone on them. This backs up my own experience, I was put on hold 15 minutes waiting for a MRI referral from their Woodlawn clinic and NP Anna Musgraves in 2019 at American Health Imaging. My call was hung up on and attempts to reconnect were unsuccessful. I have strong evidence (WATCH MY VIDEOS) Christ Health's partners St. Vincent's Hospital (Ascension / NOW UAB) (Birmingham Radiological Group / Vulcan Imaging Associates) misdiagnosed me intentionally across multiple MRI / CT and X-Rays in 2018 / 2019. Broken skull bone and infection showed up in ALL of those various scans. None of the medical professionals in my case would correct their errors or stand behind me as their patient.

My recorded phone calls to Christ Health CEO Dr. Robert Record MD can be heard in this video. As a patient & customer I found myself subjected to common health care fraud schemes including "PHANTOM BILLING" & "UPCODING" in 2019 visits at their Woodlawn & Old Springville Road clinics. I have scanned in my original medical records and share my story. Partner Ascension St. Vincent's was recently rebranded to UAB St. Vincent's. Dr. Terry Daniel Smith (aka: T. Daniel Smith, aka: Terry D. Smith) went on to work for Andrews Sports Medicine and was last connected to the UAB Medicine St. Vincent's Trussville location off Happy Hollow Road (I encountered many separate scams dealing with health providers in this building / address (see my other videos))

1 Year On: a letter I was told by their lawyer would be sent to me after a scheduled August, 2023 board meeting never arrived (August 2024, 1 year later). She refused to help me correct a laundry list of service and negligence issues in my visit.

00:00All right, as always, you can go to YouTube channel My Medical Nightmare and see 40 plus hours video on everything that happened to you.
00:09All right, six months have passed since University of Alabama at Birmingham UAB reportedly closed a $450 million U.S. deal to acquire five Birmingham, Alabama area hospitals from healthcare provider Ascension.
00:29St. Vincent's and Ascension, during their tenure and partnership, used many criminally corrupt and ethically bankrupt partners, doctors, and medical personnel.
00:41As a six-month's own, I thought I would take a look at some of the parties which are still extant and doing business with the new UAB St. Vincent's entity.
00:54You may be surprised at who is out there thriving that UAB continues to empower and send massive amounts of business and monetary rewards to.
01:09Maybe you will not be very surprised.
01:11All right, September 2025 updates on Negligent Community Health Clinic Christ Health Center.
01:18The first issue, and this basically underlines everything else that you're going to hear and see in this video.
01:26In a recorded telephone conversation with Christ Health attorney Deborah Pickens, August 2023,
01:33She made an obligation that my issues would go before their board and the results of their discussion on what happened to me would be outlined in a postal mail letter that would arrive at my mailbox.
01:50Two years later, as of August 2025, I never received this letter and this says a lot about the word of Deborah Pickens.
01:59I'm not exactly an expert at all the buzzwords applied to these scams.
02:05Upcoding and phantom billing.
02:08These are two common healthcare scams that I was apparently a party to as a patient and customer.
02:16And this involved Birmingham, Alabama area community health clinic, the Christ Health Center.
02:23They were affiliated with Ascension St. Vincent's Hospital, recently rebranded UAB St. Vincent's.
02:31The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation FBI website describes these scams on its healthcare fraud page.
02:40Phantom billing.
02:41Billing for a service visit or supplies that the patient never received.
02:46And upcoding.
02:47Billing for a more expensive service than the patient actually received.
02:51The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services rate both of these scams on the upper level of their scale.
03:00Very serious.
03:02I attempted to contact Christ Health CEO, Dr. Robert Record, several times over the last five years.
03:09Finally got him on the telephone in 2023 and I put these claims to him.
03:16I'll include our exchange in this video and you can hear in other videos on my channel where he told me he was going to refer me to someone in their organization that was going to help me.
03:31He did not disclose the fact and I only found out later that this person, Deborah Pickens, was an attorney.
03:38And she told me that they were going to do nothing about correcting this stuff and that I needed to seek legal representation myself.
03:46I also took my issues to the state of Alabama, Board of Medical Examiners and Medical Licensure Commission in the form of complaints.
03:56I filed a complaint against both Dr. Terry Daniel Smith, MD, and nurse practitioner Anna Musgraves.
04:05The state of Alabama would not do anything to help me with these, despite the fact that the documentation that I supplied with these was rock solid.
04:15You can see it here in the video.
04:17It's their own paperwork, the bills, and the doctors and nurses' own notes.
04:22These are part of my medical records.
04:24Interestingly, in a post dated March 26th of this year, UAB basically reaffirmed its relationship with Christ Health Center in a post.
04:37It reads,
04:38Family and community medicine welcomes new residents to programs across central Alabama.
04:45For thousands of medical students across the country, four years of hard work culminated into two words.
04:50You matched as these aspiring physicians discovered where they will continue their journey in medicine.
04:57Our faculty and staff poured their time into teaching, mentoring, and supporting.
05:00Here's seeing students as they gain clinical expertise, learn about research, volunteer their time at community clinics, and explore what it means to be a family physician.
05:10This dedication to cultivating the next generation of primary care physicians is truly appreciated and makes a huge impact in the health care of our state.
05:18The Department of Family and Community Medicine will be welcoming 33 future residents, including eight UAB Hirsink School of Medicine students, who matched the Cahaba UAB Family Medicine Residency, UAB Selma Family Medicine Residency, and newly branded UAB St. Vincent's East Family Medicine Residency programs.
05:39The UAB St. Vincent's East Family Medicine program at Christ Health Center is delighted to welcome eight new talented and aspiring family physicians into our residency family.
05:53Christ Health Center continued its expansion throughout the summer, and in June, their new pediatric clinic opened near the YMCA in Roebuck.
06:05And the address of this is Northeast Youth Center, 628 Red Lane Road, Birmingham, Alabama, 35215.
06:13And there they offer pediatric care for children living in low to moderate income households, health and wellness education, and access to diagnostic equipment, dental care, and pharmacy.
06:26Also, there's some new patient and customer reviews out on Christ Health, including two that mention they were hung up on when calling Christ Health regarding customer service issues.
06:40And that's noteworthy because I also was hung up on while attempting to communicate with Christ Health Center.
06:48In my case, I was sitting at a diagnostic MRI facility.
06:55This was American Health Imaging in downtown Birmingham.
07:00Now, this place wanted $500 cash for the scan, and they needed a doctor or nurse's referral.
07:09Having visited with nurse practitioner Anna Musgraves just days prior to this, she verbally gave me a guarantee that when I had secured the MRI, that she would have no problem giving her referral.
07:26So I paid my $500, and I had AHI call the Woodlawn Christ Health location.
07:33AHI told me later that they were put on hold for 15 minutes by the Woodlawn Clinic before being hung up on.
07:42Attempts to establish a line with the Woodlawn Clinic and Anna Musgraves were not successful.
07:50So I was not given that referral.
07:53And this is very significant when you take a look at the big picture regarding my own health issues at this time.
08:02All right, so again, be advised and make sure you don't fall into this trap like I did.
08:09These reviews are easy to access on Google.
08:13Here's one for the Woodlawn Clinic.
08:15This patient relates unknowledgeable, rude, unwilling to hear the patient out.
08:20And after the patient explains the issue four times, she hangs up while the patient is talking.
08:26At the Christ Health location in Chalkville, Alabama, a patient writes in a July review,
08:34the first visit my son attended was extremely crowded.
08:38Yeah, that was my experience as well.
08:41Continuing, the doctors were very polite and prayed over my son, but the staff scheduling, etc. are very rude.
08:48A young girl, not lady, who works in scheduling was very rude.
08:53On June 30th, 2025, I called to ask a specific question.
08:57Instead of answering my question, she requested I pay a bill.
09:01She then hung up the phone in my face.
09:04This is such an unprofessional and rude front office and scheduling department.
09:08I don't recommend you visit this facility.
09:11Yeah, that backs up my experience also.
09:13My own advice is do not go to Christ Health Center for your medical treatment.
09:20Don't take your children to the pediatric clinic.
09:23Just avoid this place.
09:24If you do find yourself dealing with Christ Health, always ask for a first and last name.
09:33But what I've encountered in the Birmingham, Alabama area is the receptionist, the staff, etc.
09:40In many medical clinics, they now will not give patients and customers a real name.
09:48They'll give you a nickname, a pseudonym, or a fake name.
09:51Any interaction with medical professionals regarding your own personal health care, they need to be recorded.
09:59We're talking about video, audio.
10:01I'm speaking to Robert Record, CEO in the state of Alabama, licensed medical doctor for Christ Health Center.
10:09Is that correct?
10:10Sir, yeah, this is Robert Record.
10:12How can I help you?
10:12It sounds like you're upset.
10:15I would love to be of great help to you.
10:16I know we're doing you for you.
10:18What can I do for you?
10:19It's been four years.
10:21Oh, yeah, it's been four years.
10:22I've been trying to get that issue resolved for four years, actually.
10:26I saw Dr. Terry Daniel Smith, M.D., and he was at the Chalkville, Old Springville Road, Christ Health Center.
10:36My issue with my Christ Health visit, 2019, I believe I received no measurable level of service in my visit.
10:45And I had two visits, okay?
10:48The one with the doctor, Terry Daniel Smith, and that visit was $109.
10:53I had a visit with nurse, NP, and Musgraves, $107.
11:00Why was I charged $107 for a visit with the NP and $109 for the visit with the M.D.?
11:09Because there's quite a gulf of experience.
11:13So you don't understand why you would charge the same bill for an M.D. as an M.D.?
11:17Okay.
11:18Yeah, so why?
11:20Because the medical codes are the same, and the medical price is the same on either one.
11:28I think that I should have been charged less for the visit with the E.M.P. than the M.D.
11:34I honor your thought on that, sir.
11:36Yeah, and I mean, you know, I can go down to the Woodlawn Clinic today and take video.
11:42The people that go to your clinic there in Woodlawn, they don't have $100 to pay to see an M.D.
11:46You obviously don't know the market prices, the going rate to see an M.D. is what I think.
11:53Well, you're welcome to accuse me and use language like that.
11:56That's your right.
11:57I can back it up with facts because I've seen other M.D.s.
12:00I can share what the market rate is in this area, Birmingham, Alabama, sir.
12:06You're welcome to say that, sir.
12:08You're welcome to say that.
12:09Our fees are set with the federal government, approved by our board, and are reviewed every year by our board.
12:18And we charge on a sliding scale based on people bringing in documentation of their income, and then we reduce those fees based on that.
12:26And so I know what we collect on average on an uninsured patient, and it's all based on their salaries.
12:33Our fees are done with the federal sliding scale, which is approved annually by the federal government.
12:40Yeah, again, I would like a better answer as to why I was charged $100 to see a nurse and a medical doctor.
12:48Because there's a gulf of discipline there, okay?
12:53Yeah.
12:54You know, a nurse is not a doctor.
12:57You shouldn't be charged.
12:58She's a nurse practitioner.
12:59She's not a nurse.
12:59She's a nurse practitioner.
13:01So she's a certified registered nurse practitioner.
13:05And the charges are the same in both, which is pretty much standard practice across the industry.
13:11We got outstanding issues unresolved and unaddressed from that Terry Daniel Smith M.D. visit.
13:18Okay, from that visit, he charged me for a hemoglobin blood test and an electrocardiogram that I did not receive.
13:27And when you charge patients for services that are not rendered or provided, that's a big no-no.
13:36And that is a problem.
13:38That was refunded to me because I went into the Old Springville Road location and complained about it.
13:43So that was refunded to me.
13:45But still, it's unacceptable that you got doctors that are unprofessional.
13:50Okay, thank you for letting me know.
13:51My rundown of issues with Christ Health Center, Birmingham, Alabama, I believe I received no measurable level of service in my visit.
14:01I was charged the same amount of money, $110, to see the doctor and MD as the nurse, a nurse practitioner.
14:11Other medical practices around Birmingham, I paid roughly half of that price.
14:20Christ Health is partners with Ascension, St. Vincent's Hospital.
14:24And it looks like either Christ Health decided to ignore my injury or were ordered to ignore my injury.
14:32And I believe this is to protect the reputations and million-dollar salaries of the, quote, professionals, unquote, involved.
14:40I also believe it may have been patient-dupped.
14:43And that's a violation of EMTALA, E-M-T-A-L-A, in the course of my seeking treatment.
14:49I was a self-paid patient.
14:50I had no insurance.
14:52And I could provide no stated source of income.
14:55Dr. Terry Daniel Smith, MD, outright refused to grant me a referral for an MRI.
15:03Just a few days later, I got that MRI.
15:06I had to pay cash out of pocket.
15:08And broken bone surrounded by infection shows up in that scan.
15:13Broken bone also shows up in the CT scan.
15:17He claims in his notes in my medical chart to have reviewed in detail.
15:22I was billed $50 for a hemoglobin blood test and electrocardiogram I never received.
15:30And, yeah, I think taking money from people who don't have anything, such as myself, is obscene.
15:37Nurse Musgraves wrote in her report that she suspected psych etiology to explain my symptomology.
15:44And this is absolutely wrong.
15:46Broken skull bone is visible in the MRI, CT, and X-ray that I've had done.
15:51Nurse Practitioner Anna Musgraves agreed to give a referral when I secured my MRI.
15:59So I had to go out and find another medical practice with the equipment who could do the scan.
16:06I was given three avenues of financial assistance to pursue.
16:11And all three of these led to dead ends.
16:14I did not qualify.
16:16This is for Ascension Access to Care, Cooper Green Hospital, and UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.
16:23After I paid $500 cash out of pocket for an MRI at American Health Imaging in downtown Birmingham on the south side,
16:33the diagnostic center staff told me that they needed a medical referral.
16:40I informed them to call Christ Health Center in Woodlawn.
16:45They were put on hold 15 minutes.
16:47And then someone, we don't know who, at Christ Health Center hung up the telephone.
16:54They backed out on giving that referral.
16:56I believe somebody didn't want me to get this MRI scan because it would show the truth of an injury that I was told I did not have.
17:05A medical doctor I had no interaction with, also strangely edited, and signed off on my records and chart days following that visit.
17:17This was shortly after I lodged my first official complaint for lack of service from Christ Health.
17:24This doctor was Beverly Vonderpool.
17:28I put all my records from this visit in several hours worth of video on YouTube channel, My Medical Nightmare.
17:36You can go there and see my side of this story.
17:41Deborah Pickens also tells me that a letter with a statement was going to be put in the mail to me after that August 2023 meeting.
17:52And what I can say is, I have not yet received this promised letter.
17:58One year later, they know my address too because they sent me those bills for those medical services that weren't performed on me.
18:05So people out there looking at health care options in the Birmingham, Alabama area, please take my experience to heart.
18:13And I would advise that you look elsewhere when seeking medical treatment from a doctor or a nurse.
