00:00to prove that cricket wasn't just for the elite.
00:02It's who this, isn't it?
00:04By creating a team like no other in his hometown of Preston.
00:07What has he got us wearing?
00:09Well, that's a shot, isn't it?
00:10Over the course of a turbulent season...
00:12Seriously, I'm getting off with you.
00:14...and an overseas cricket tour to India...
00:16We're all going to find out something about ourselves, me included.
00:19Freddie changed the lives of his unlikely team in more ways than one.
00:23We can do this, all right? Yeah.
00:25We're all here for you.
00:26Inspired by the success of the lads from Preston...
00:29Are you messin'?
00:30Freddie now wants to see if he can expand the project...
00:33That's a shot.
00:34...and begin a Field of Dreams cricket league...
00:36That's safe, yeah.
00:37Yeah, get a sense out of your depth.
00:38...with the hope of reaching even more kids across the UK.
00:42No, no, no, no, no!
00:43Not one bit of that is fun of.
00:45So far, he's started to build a girls' team in Blackpool...
00:49I see why my mum fancies Freddie.
00:52Why?
00:54No, no, no!
00:55...and has struggled to control his boys' team in Liverpool.
00:59Oi, oi, oi, oi, oi, oi!
01:00You can't do that. Seriously, you can't do that.
01:03But despite the challenges, Freddie threw them into their first-ever cricket match...
01:07What a smog, dude!
01:09Right!
01:10...which they lost to the lads from Preston.
01:13What happened there?
01:15If we can just keep him engaged, he's got a chance.
01:18But it could all fall apart just as quick.
01:21Plan for tonight, everyone will bowl, everyone will bat, yeah?
01:30Yeah.
01:32With two clubs already on the go, Kyle is running tonight's training session in Liverpool.
01:38Right, do you two want to get your pads on?
01:41Why have you got your jacket on?
01:42It's not going to give you any extra protection.
01:44You need a bigger coat, you lad.
01:45What I've seen on the training pitch...
01:53I flew, that did.
01:56The boys have got some naughty potential.
02:00We're definitely different to your average cricket team.
02:03Right, Stevie, do you want to bat next?
02:05Yeah.
02:06Just the best, aren't we?
02:08No-one's like us.
02:09What do we need to wear?
02:11Get all the pads, gloves, everything on.
02:14Have you got a box?
02:16Definitely need one of them on.
02:18**** that, cool.
02:19If I ever get this in the balls, then it means **** feel like that.
02:24Stepping up to face the hardball is 16-year-old Stevie,
02:28who's choosing to follow his own rules by not wearing all of the protective kit.
02:33You're in.
02:35Stevie's going to whack this.
02:36Oh, that's why he wears a cup.
02:45Do you have a cup in, Stevie?
02:47Doesn't look like it, that one.
02:48Why's he not got a box on?
02:49He's got tools.
02:50Put all the kit on.
02:52Oh, ****.
02:53Did you get it in a dick?
02:55Yeah.
02:57Oh, my kids aren't going to be happy in the future, you know.
03:02Right, get a tennis racket, get a ball,
03:05you go and take the lads for some catching practice.
03:08Right, put the cricket balls on the floor.
03:09Stevie, Stevie.
03:12It's hard work tonight.
03:15I think after the game,
03:17I thought they'd come with, like, a good attitude,
03:19wanting to try and get better,
03:21and it just shows out when Ryan and Stevie are not interested,
03:26it just brings the whole group down.
03:28No, no, Stevie, what are you doing?
03:33This is so much effort, lad.
03:34Everyone's fans are a bit boring,
03:36coming back to doing normal training.
03:38I think everyone wants to get back to playing games
03:40against other people,
03:41because I think they find that more enjoyable.
03:44Oh, you want to help them get them better, but...
03:47Oh!
03:48You know, if they're not interested,
03:50you're just banging your head against a brick wall.
03:51Oh, you're just...
03:52Oh, you're just...
03:5350 miles up the coast in Blackpool.
04:05I've missed you.
04:06Thank you, I've missed you, Matt.
04:07Good to see you again.
04:07I'm due.
04:08After a successful try-out session,
04:11Freddie's girls' team have started training
04:12at South Shore Cricket Club.
04:15You seem energetic, I'm up for it.
04:17I hit a car!
04:18Girls!
04:19With word of a new team in the area spreading,
04:23more players are turning up for practice.
04:26Hi, Maddie!
04:27We've got a new girl tonight, Maddie.
04:29Has everyone met Maddie?
04:30Yeah, me.
04:31Molly, are you already getting terrorised?
04:32How do you know each other?
04:33School.
04:34School?
04:35Worst luck.
04:37Yeah.
04:37Yeah, there's a bit of history here, I think.
04:39I just don't like her.
04:42I've never liked her to be far.
04:45Come on, shall we go and have her back?
04:49Yes!
04:49Yes, bro!
04:50No, this is wobbling.
04:51That's funny.
04:53Oh, my God!
04:56Do you want to take this one, Kyle?
05:00Oh, that's you.
05:00That's one, too.
05:01Backing coach.
05:02It's not the easiest coaching.
05:04I'm not the type of coaching I'm used to.
05:05Keep your eye on it.
05:06Watch your eyes.
05:07Here you go.
05:08Yes, Molly.
05:11Run, Molly, run!
05:12I'm not sure when they're going to play against sides or when we can step it up, but they're keen, aren't they? That's the biggest thing, and they're smiling and enjoying it. Can't ask for it much more than that.
05:23I'm scared to run at these.
05:24As long as they're doing that, we've got a chance.
05:30What are you doing?
05:31Shut up.
05:34Courtney, these gloves are giving me weird feelings.
05:37New girl, 17-year-old Maddie, has grown up in Blackpool and has lived in care since the age of 11.
05:44What do I do?
05:45So, currently, I'm not in no education. I'm not working. I did have a job, but I quit that because I didn't like it. Because if I like something, I'll stick to it, but if I know I don't like it, yeah, I'm gone.
06:05Yes, Maddie.
06:08Oh, great.
06:09Yes!
06:12Maddie, that's amazing.
06:13Are you sure you've not done this before?
06:14No.
06:15Josh.
06:16I'm being serious.
06:16Seriously?
06:17Yeah.
06:18Natural.
06:20Come on, Mad.
06:22Oh, f*** this.
06:24Oh, oh, oh.
06:25Go.
06:25You need your back. You need your back.
06:27No, someone else can have that.
06:29Pissing me off.
06:30Can't hit the ball.
06:33I can get irritated really fast if I can't do something right, and if it doesn't go my way.
06:39It takes time to get used to.
06:41Someone else go back for a minute.
06:42My confidence goes down, because I just don't believe in myself.
06:51Maddie.
06:51Give us a minute, please.
06:53I've been in car since the age of 11, and I think because of the way I've grown up, I'm very cautious about letting people in.
07:05You've just got to leave me alone, and just, I'll be back.
07:08You obviously play a bit of sport, don't you?
07:13What did you do?
07:14Football.
07:14Who for?
07:16Blackpool.
07:16Did you?
07:17In Lancashire.
07:18Really?
07:19Yeah.
07:19What, still?
07:20No.
07:20Gave up without.
07:21Why?
07:22Got bored of it.
07:23So what do you do then?
07:24Nothing.
07:25Sleep.
07:26Eat.
07:27School?
07:27No.
07:28I left.
07:28Got kicked out of it.
07:31For what?
07:32Messing about.
07:33What type of stuff?
07:35Messing, just calling teacher names and everything.
07:38Really?
07:38I'm not going to lessons, Skyrim.
07:39So what do you want to do?
07:42I don't know.
07:43Go to play football?
07:44No.
07:44No, you're done with that?
07:45Yeah.
07:47Enjoyed being around the girls?
07:49Yeah, it's been all right.
07:50All right.
07:52Meeting new people.
07:53Not a big fan of it, mate.
07:54Can't lie.
07:57Yeah.
07:58Nice conversation.
08:01Yeah.
08:02Not giving me much, are you?
08:04No.
08:04No?
08:05Bit too awkward yet.
08:06Really?
08:07Leave it for another day.
08:10Come here, Maddie.
08:12Put your front foot here.
08:14I think she's got real potential.
08:16So with this one, point where you want it to go.
08:19And as that comes down, just bring that other one straight over.
08:21It's obvious she's played a sport before.
08:23She's kicking the ball around, doing keep you up to cricket balls.
08:27Oh, ****.
08:29It just seems like she's got no real direction.
08:31Hopefully we can help her with that.
08:34Oh, this is heavy.
08:35You know what?
08:36Maybe through this, we can inspire her to get back into sport.
08:39You ready for it to go over there?
08:41Yeah.
08:42OK.
08:42It's down there.
08:44Molly.
08:44Come on, Maddie.
08:45Keep going.
08:46Molly, because if she smacks the ball...
08:48If she hits it and you're still there, it'll hurt you.
08:52Diddums.
08:52You're just not too cocky.
08:55Crick.
08:56One go.
08:57Yeah, I already knew her.
08:59I think it'll be quite interesting to see how me and Maddie get on over the next couple of weeks.
09:04All right.
09:06Come on.
09:07In we come.
09:10How are we all feeling about the girls' team?
09:13Enjoyed that?
09:13It was all right.
09:14It was all right?
09:14You all right?
09:15Yeah.
09:15I can see the new Maddie and Molly clashing.
09:20You could tell there was something going on.
09:21Yeah.
09:22I think they're fighting for top spot, aren't they?
09:24Yeah.
09:24All right, there's a couple of problems.
09:26But I can see how this club could be the start of something quite good.
09:31Yeah.
09:32And hopefully for women's cricket in the wider area, keep coming, we keep improving, organise some games, keep practising, keep working hard.
09:40They're willing to listen, they're willing to learn, so I think we've got a chance for these girls.
09:44Right.
09:46Well done, well done.
09:47Everyone, let's tidy up.
09:50So far, we're in good shape.
09:52We've got a boys' team in Bootle who've played the first match and done all right.
09:56We've got the girls' team in Blackpool.
09:59But I want to do another one.
10:01I want to do a third team.
10:03How nice would it be if we could get all the teams playing against each other?
10:09I don't know if I'm a pioneer or I'm stupid.
10:12But we'll find out, aren't we?
10:14On the hunt for a third club to add to his cricket league, Freddie's heading to his adopted hometown of Manchester.
10:22The reason for three is we did one and we showed that could work.
10:26And moving forward, if we do three and we get them right, we've created somewhat of a blueprint,
10:32which can be carried forward to anywhere in the country.
10:36Irrespective of your postcard or how much money you've got or what your parents are to do, cricket should be for everyone.
10:44Four miles north-east of the city centre, Newton Heath has a rich sporting history, with its football club going on to become the world-famous Manchester United.
10:55Established in 1859, Newton Heath Cricket Club used to be the hub of the community, hosting famous sporting legends, with the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton even playing on its ground.
11:09But over the last few years, the 165-year-old club has seen a steady decline in interest.
11:17Oh, aye. He's in a terrible state.
11:19And its ground has been left to rack and ruin.
11:22Doesn't really look like a cricket club, does it?
11:24As it stands now, it just looks a mess, doesn't it?
11:30Fred is meeting Graham, the team captain, who's been struggling to keep the club afloat.
11:36So what teams have you got now?
11:38Just one. One senior team.
11:40Just one team?
11:40So no youth, no women's, yeah, just a one.
11:42No kids?
11:43No kids.
11:44There's not been a kids' team since probably about 2000s, early 2000s.
11:49Yeah.
11:49Oh?
11:49Yeah.
11:51Not one, not like a...
11:52So no kids come down here and play on a Friday night or...?
11:56No.
11:57No?
11:58No, nothing.
11:59How many members you got?
12:00We've got about nine or ten.
12:02It's not a team, that.
12:03Not a team.
12:04Do you feel you've done well to keep it open?
12:07Are you sure there's your hands?
12:08Yeah, yeah.
12:08So this is our main function room.
12:10Yeah.
12:13Seen better days, but yeah.
12:15Not too many weddings in here at the minute.
12:16Not in a minute.
12:18So if you come through, we've got cobwebs.
12:21Yeah, you look cobwebs.
12:22The changing rooms.
12:24No electricity.
12:25Has electricity been cut off?
12:27Partly for danger, yeah, cost as well.
12:29Yeah.
12:32And, yeah, there's water there, you know, on the floor.
12:35Oh, aye.
12:35Yeah.
12:37And then through here we go.
12:39This gets a bit more real.
12:41So showers, toilets, as you can see.
12:44Oh, wow, look at this.
12:45It's a job, isn't it?
12:52Yeah.
12:52It needs money and doing all.
12:55I don't know if I want to, but should we have a look at the ground?
12:57Yeah, can do.
12:58Well, you come from this, like, it's a big place, isn't it?
13:03Oh, it's massive, yeah, yeah.
13:04One of the biggest grounds in the north-west.
13:07I can kind of picture what it could be.
13:09He was immaculate.
13:10You know, he's one of the best wickets in the league.
13:12He had crowds all around.
13:14You know, he was striving.
13:16I'm guessing, looking round here, there's a load of houses and things,
13:21but these people aren't engaged in coming here.
13:24No, no.
13:27So as it stands now, then, there's nothing happening?
13:30No.
13:30Unless there's an injection or something, that's how it's going to stay.
13:33That's how it's going to stay.
13:36It's not nice to see, is it?
13:39It's a place where kids should be coming and playing,
13:41and it should be the hub of the community.
13:43But you look at it and you can understand
13:46why people aren't coming, can't you?
13:48The doors are shut, the gates are locked.
13:50There's no pitch, there's no teams.
13:52But it's really sad.
13:55Like, in the city cricket, it's dying, isn't it?
13:57And we've got to do something, don't we?
14:01Cos if something's not done very quickly,
14:04this place is going to disappear like a lot of others.
14:08And when you put it in those terms,
14:10it's hard not to try, isn't it, and have a good crack at it?
14:13Imagine what I'd turn around this would be for the local area.
14:20If Freddie has any chance of saving the club,
14:23he needs support from the local community.
14:26We'll have to go to old school here, don't we?
14:28We'll knock on doors and walk around the streets
14:30and drum up the port.
14:32You know, we want to do it.
14:32We want to get a cricket club thriving again.
14:34We want people coming down, we want kids playing.
14:36But it'll be dictated by if that's what the people
14:39around this place want.
14:40Hiya.
14:43Hi.
14:43Sorry to bother you.
14:44I'm Fred.
14:45I'm doing some work at the cricket club behind at Newton Heath.
14:49I'm just trying to get people in the local community
14:51coming out and helping us clear it up a bit,
14:53cos it's in a bit of a state.
14:54I'm not surprised.
14:56Nothing's gone on there for such a long time.
14:58I don't think anybody's given it any second thought.
15:00Well, I wish you every look in the world.
15:02Thank you all.
15:03We'll see you down there.
15:04We'll get you down there at some point.
15:05You'll never know.
15:07This whole project depends on the community
15:09getting involved and wanting that cricket club to do well.
15:13I'd have to keep trying, wouldn't I?
15:15Just keep knocking.
15:17Hiya.
15:18I'm doing some work at Newton Heath Cricket Club.
15:20Try to get all the teams going, get the cricket club back.
15:22Have you got any kids here who would be interested in playing cricket?
15:25Yeah, I've got 15-year-old.
15:26Well, bring him down.
15:27Yeah.
15:28Thanks very much.
15:28See you later.
15:29We need players.
15:33I just hope there's some sort of appetite.
15:36What's she on the bag there?
15:37You're just doing all right, aren't you?
15:38Yeah.
15:39You're from Newton Heath, eh?
15:40Yeah.
15:40I'm trying to get kids from this area playing cricket.
15:43I don't think it's a good idea.
15:45No-one's going to go.
15:47Are you all right?
15:47I want to get that club going again.
15:49I'm going to get teams.
15:50I'm going to get it thriving.
15:51Do you think it could work?
15:53No.
15:53No?
15:54No.
15:54Why?
15:55It's just boring.
15:56It's just dawning on me, actually, the magnitude of what we're trying to do and how big a scale.
16:02And this is just one of them.
16:03This is Newton Heath.
16:04We're going to boot him in Blackpool as well.
16:06But I do like a challenge.
16:08But is this one that I've bitten a bit too much off here?
16:12I do, right?
16:12No, no problem.
16:13You're following me, mate.
16:14You and me over here.
16:15Yeah, I'm Fred.
16:15Nice to meet you.
16:16You all right?
16:16Yeah, shall I, mate?
16:18Yeah.
16:19You're going to cut me off now, aren't you?
16:20Oh, here we go.
16:21He's going off now.
16:22He's going to burn me, isn't he?
16:23You know the cricket club back here?
16:26Yeah.
16:27I'm trying to get it going again.
16:30It's got a lot of history behind it, but in recent years it's just gone to the dogs.
16:33Yeah, it has, yeah.
16:33Well, you've got Michael Abbott, who's captain of England.
16:36Yeah, I played with him, yeah.
16:37And I used to play there.
16:38Yeah.
16:38So...
16:39Oh, yeah, you and Ed's cricket.
16:41Yeah, I used to play a bit, yeah.
16:43OK, that's good, yeah.
16:44We're doing a clear-up if you fancy getting some fresh air.
16:47I'm going to start clearing it up a bit.
16:48Think about that.
16:49No, you're going to stick to your snooker and a pint.
16:51All right, I'll leave you to it.
16:53Cheers, guys.
16:53All right, yeah.
16:53It looks like it's shut.
16:55No one knows anything about it.
16:57Hopefully through word of mouth it'll start spreading.
16:59Yeah.
17:00Thanks so much.
17:00I'll see you later.
17:01See you later, bud.
17:03It's a real reality check, you know, because it's gone well recently.
17:08And now we're just diving back in even deeper.
17:12You know, he said if they build it, they'll come.
17:14Something like that, innit?
17:16At the minute, we've not built nothing, no one's come in.
17:21With Freddie in Manchester, 50 miles away in Blackpool,
17:29England cricketer Kate Cross is back to help Kyle try and train the girls
17:34into a match-ready team.
17:36I think tonight maybe introduce a hard ball.
17:38What do you reckon?
17:39It'll be interesting to see how they cope with that,
17:41because I know a lot of females get put off from cricket
17:43when it goes from softball to hardball.
17:45But if we're going to play some games,
17:47they're going to actually have to get used to a hard ball at some point.
17:50Right, Connor.
17:52Why did I lose, Mike?
17:53Don't keep you multiple.
17:54Well, my teeth would be green.
17:56Well, my lips would be red.
17:58All right, hardball each.
18:00Well, are these the actual ones?
18:01It is hard.
18:02Do not throw this at somebody, whatever you do.
18:04It is hard.
18:05The first girls to face the hard ball are both newcomers to the game.
18:1017-year-old Maddie and 16-year-old Summer.
18:14Helmets.
18:14You need helmets.
18:15Are they ridden?
18:19Can we have everyone watching the balls, please?
18:21Are you ready, kids?
18:24And if you get hit, you get hurt.
18:26Oh, no.
18:27Here we go.
18:30Ah!
18:33Ooh.
18:33Hick, eh?
18:36Mumma just got hit with a ball.
18:37You all right?
18:39Quite bad, actually.
18:41That was horrendous.
18:42No, no, I think that's nasty.
18:43You all right?
18:45Dangerous.
18:46It'll hurt for, like, 30 more seconds, and then it goes.
18:51She got hit with a ball.
18:53No!
18:54I don't want to play.
18:55I don't want to play.
18:57I don't want to play.
19:02I'm not playing.
19:03You all right, Summer?
19:06Just a bit of a sting.
19:09The first one's always the worst.
19:12Go on, then.
19:14These hard balls, oh, my God, they hurt.
19:17They hurt.
19:18Even catching it hurts.
19:23Yeah, maybe, I mean, I think we had to introduce a cricket ball to them just so they knew what it is.
19:29Don't eat me!
19:32Ah!
19:34Too fast, mate.
19:35Too fast.
19:36If we're going to play a game, we're going to use a hard ball, so it's a tough one to know what to do, really.
19:41Don't kill me!
19:44Don't want to die today!
19:45Um, might have to rethink our, rethink how we're going to approach it for next session.
19:53Summer!
19:55Hey, girly.
19:56What are you doing?
19:58What are you doing?
19:59Can you come and join me back, please?
20:03No.
20:04Please?
20:05No.
20:05It's boring without you.
20:06I've got PTSD.
20:08Well, we can do some bowling together.
20:10No.
20:11Bowling?
20:11It's not hurting?
20:12I'm good.
20:13Come on and join.
20:15Come on, you're doing well, aren't you?
20:20No, you actually are, Summer.
20:22Come on.
20:25Me and Kyle or Freddie can say whatever we think is the right thing, but actually if it comes from each other or comes from one of their teammates, they seem to listen a little bit more.
20:34I feel like the camaraderie in the team is actually what's going to drag them along.
20:39People, on three, two, one, we're all going to cheer.
20:50Three, two, one.
20:54Yay!
20:57Summer!
20:59Come on, Summer.
21:00Come on.
21:04Come on, Summer, mate, you've got this.
21:05I'm doing one ball and that's it, right?
21:07Come on, you've got it.
21:08I'm doing one ball.
21:09You've got it.
21:13Well done.
21:14Well done, then.
21:15You brought her back from the dead.
21:16I know, mate.
21:17That was brilliant.
21:18What did you say to her?
21:19I don't know.
21:20I actually don't know.
21:22That's it.
21:23Bring the stomps in.
21:33Watch the dog shit.
21:34Shut up, you're absolute muppet.
21:46Absolute f***hole.
21:48It's never a dull day on Grange, is it?
21:50No.
21:50You stormed off, didn't you?
21:53Yeah, I had my moment.
21:58Because I thought I didn't want to do it, but at the same time, I do want to do it.
22:02What's the main reason why you don't want to do it?
22:04It's just, like, really, like, boost my energy down.
22:08Not too confident.
22:09Yeah, that would.
22:11I don't know if I do want to go back, but obviously, it'd more, it'll be the fact of letting Freddie down.
22:18Letting your emotions win more, like.
22:21Yeah.
22:21With confidence affecting the girls in Blackpool, in Manchester, where Freddie is hoping to create a third team, there's been some good news.
22:36You all right, pal?
22:37Thanks for coming.
22:37You all right, thank you.
22:39Thanks for coming.
22:41After weeks of spreading the word about his plan to restore Newton Heath Cricket Club, some of the local community have turned up to help out.
22:48It's the start, isn't it?
22:53Everyone's just getting involved and mucking in.
22:56Makes you think, actually, we're doing something that people want.
22:58But despite progress being made outside...
23:01Good to see you, Fred.
23:03..one of the longest-serving members of the club, John, is keen to show Freddie that things have got even worse inside.
23:10Oh, wow, look at this.
23:11This is the kitchen area now, which you can see the water egresses.
23:16I'm not sure that's going to get to help and safety, though.
23:18I don't think you can cook in there.
23:20No, no.
23:21Look at it.
23:22Has this just happened past few weeks?
23:24Well, this is, yeah, it's a flat roof.
23:27Needs repairing.
23:28So I can see since last time I've been here, it's got worse.
23:31Yeah.
23:32So what is the plan, then?
23:33What is the plan for the club?
23:34The plan is to get Cricket back on here.
23:38How, though?
23:39Well, we're depending on yourself in many ways.
23:47Cheers, John.
23:48We want you...
23:51Well, I think, basically, we're on our knees.
23:57Really?
23:58We're on our knees.
23:59Sometimes, though, I found this in my career, you've got to hit rock bottom before you can start going back up.
24:05It sounds like this is rock bottom here now, isn't it?
24:07It is.
24:08Look at the kitchen and the ground and everything.
24:10I think it would be criminal to let this facility disappear.
24:14I agree.
24:15I agree.
24:16Just need a start, don't we?
24:17Yeah.
24:18This is...
24:18Well, today, you've got all these people, haven't you?
24:21They're having to go on there.
24:23As well as volunteers, kids from the local area have turned up to help out.
24:28Well, Fred, nice to meet you.
24:29Dominic.
24:30All right, Dominic, you all right?
24:31Thanks for coming.
24:31Go and join him.
24:33Fred.
24:33Nice to meet you.
24:34Nice to meet you.
24:34Go and mingle in.
24:36Thanks so much.
24:37Thanks for coming.
24:37You lads cricketers?
24:39Nah, football.
24:40No?
24:40It's your sport.
24:41It's football.
24:41Football.
24:42What else you do?
24:43I don't really play football that much, though.
24:45What do you do with yourself, then?
24:46Just go out, chill.
24:47You say you chill.
24:48What, doing what?
24:49What do you do and your mates do?
24:50Just go out in the stadium.
24:52And do what?
24:53Just chill.
24:54It's a bit dead nowadays, isn't it?
24:55It's a bit dead?
24:56Yeah, it's just nothing to do nowadays.
24:59What's it like?
25:00No, I used to be fun.
25:01Like that.
25:02Huh?
25:02Like the youth and that.
25:04The youth?
25:04Yeah, yeah.
25:05What's wrong with them?
25:05Are you rough?
25:08Couple of guns.
25:08Yeah, a couple of rough stuff going on.
25:11My boy got stabbed, like, seven months ago today.
25:13Did he?
25:14Yeah.
25:14Yeah.
25:14I knew the person that stabbed him and the person that died, didn't it?
25:17I was both close with both.
25:18We're both friends with them and everything.
25:20I was close with both of them.
25:22But it's just life, innit?
25:25Like, there's nothing you can do about it, seriously.
25:27Yeah, but it depends where you're putting yourself, though, isn't it?
25:29Yeah.
25:30You're putting yourself in areas where you're susceptible to it.
25:32Yeah, but you're buying into the area.
25:34Yeah, but my thought is with this place is, if we create something where people can come,
25:39enjoy themselves and they're safe, good for everyone.
25:42Yeah.
25:43Yeah.
25:44Do you fancy getting involved here?
25:45Oh.
25:46Can we get it going, joining the cricket team?
25:47It's semi-posh sport, though.
25:49Yeah, well, it was a posh sport, but trying to change it, I want everyone to play.
25:52Everyone have a chance.
25:53Yeah.
25:54Well, I'd love you to come.
25:55Yeah.
25:55It's great to meet you.
25:57Hopefully we'll see you again.
25:58You're going to come, aren't you?
26:00Yeah.
26:00Bring your mates as well.
26:01Yeah, we are, don't worry.
26:02All right?
26:02Feel free to pick some litter up if you want as well, but you might not get much in your
26:06bag.
26:06Nah, no.
26:08Come on, I'll thank you.
26:09Cheers, boys.
26:10Have a nice day.
26:11Bye.
26:13Cricket's a tough style for them.
26:16But that's the type of lads we want.
26:19You know, so give these boys a chance.
26:20The more I speak to people, this place is crying out for somewhere that people can go
26:25to.
26:26And it seems that cricket is, it's probably secondary.
26:30The cricket club is the hook.
26:33And then hopefully from there it can expand into more of a social club, where they're safe,
26:39and we can kick kids off the streets.
26:42There is a crack in the wall.
26:43Right, OK.
26:45Yeah.
26:45You can see where it's all coming down off the flat roof into the gutter.
26:48To give Freddie an idea of the work needed to restore the club, he's asked Manchester
26:53Council to come down and conduct a site survey.
26:56What have you found?
26:58We think we've got some subsidence along all the back wall.
27:01It recommended that we have an asbestos survey done, so they'll come in probably next week.
27:06And then also, we've got a flat roof connecting this part of the building to the bit with the
27:12function rooms, and that is leaking.
27:14Sitting kitchen.
27:15Yeah, it's a mess, isn't it?
27:16Yeah, and it's quite dangerous.
27:18So, that's...
27:19What's the costing, do you reckon?
27:21So, we were looking in the region of about £300,000 for refurbishing what we've got.
27:26And then, if we were going to demolish and start again, then it would be in the region
27:31of £850,000, something like that.
27:33Yeah, you're at £50,000, OK.
27:35So, what's your advice?
27:37We haven't got any money specifically, but this is about using contractors and reaching
27:41out to them.
27:42We need to identify all the needs and the requirements of what we need to do for the
27:46next few months.
27:48What sort of time frames do you envisage?
27:51I think, to be brutally honest, we need two to three months to get a planning application
27:56together, and then we've got another three months to get the application submitted and
28:01hopefully approved before we should be put in...
28:04So, six months before anything happens?
28:06If we're going to do a new build option, yeah.
28:10Right.
28:11So, it's quite a long process, isn't it?
28:16It's a day to start.
28:17It's a start, but I'm very impatient.
28:20Very impatient.
28:24Thanks very much.
28:26I was hoping they'd give us a few solutions, but just give us six months.
28:30Six months and we can do something.
28:32It's a club on its knees.
28:34Something needs doing now and it needs doing fast.
28:37It has to happen before the end of the summer.
28:40It has to.
28:44With plans for his Manchester club looking more and more complicated...
28:49Get your head down.
28:50Freddie's headed back to his boys' team in Liverpool.
28:54There you go.
28:56But only six have turned up for tonight's training.
29:01I reckon you can hit that harder.
29:03Commit to it.
29:03Commit to it.
29:05Where's Ryan tonight?
29:06You could be doing anything.
29:08Him and Stevie.
29:09What?
29:09Where's Steve here?
29:11He could be doing anything.
29:13One more.
29:14One more and swap over and Kev can get a drink.
29:18There's not too many here tonight, is there?
29:23It is a disappointment.
29:25It would be nice if everyone was here.
29:27They are a team and they've played a game and they've been showing signs of improving.
29:30It's hard, isn't it, because things are going to be against us, but I think it drives you on, doesn't it, to think this is important.
29:38We have to keep trying, just to give these kids a chance of playing cricket.
29:41One of the oldest boys on the team, who has turned up for training, is 17-year-old local lad, Michael.
29:52Oh, here's the battle.
29:55That will follow that.
29:59But you want your weight coming through.
30:00Yeah, so you want your weight forward.
30:01So it all starts with your head.
30:03Sheld.
30:04Nice one, Fred.
30:05Sport's always been, like, a part of me life.
30:08Just keeping me in check a good few times, really.
30:11Just a safe, a safe place.
30:13Safe place to go, really.
30:15It's a shot.
30:17Do the nice thing about that, Michael, it's spun, but you've hit with the spin.
30:21Yeah, yeah.
30:22When I hit the bat, I felt the spin.
30:24You hit with it?
30:25Yeah.
30:26I felt the spin off the bat as well.
30:28I've always lived in Bootle.
30:30It's just a mental place.
30:31I'd say it is a rough little lady.
30:33And the gang culture is a big thing in Bootle, like, doing cricket and being with Freddie.
30:41Coming at a good time, because I feel like the age you're at from 17 to 18 is quite a hard year, I think.
30:49And I feel like it's been a bit of a distraction for me for just being able to go and play cricket for an hour or two.
30:54That's up, Michael.
30:55Go on.
30:56There we go.
30:57That's bad.
30:59I'll take that from the last one.
31:01That was a good man.
31:01Great effort.
31:03Freddie's decided that after training, he wants to find out how being part of the team is helping Michael.
31:12Firstly, how are you finding the cricket?
31:14It was.
31:14You're enjoying it?
31:15Yeah, yeah.
31:15How come you wanted to do it in the first place?
31:18It's just an opportunity, really.
31:19An opportunity to excel, weren't it?
31:21So, take it with both hands.
31:23You're obviously from round here.
31:25Tell us a bit about...
31:27It's quite rough, like.
31:28Is it?
31:29In what way?
31:30I don't know.
31:30I don't know if it was ever, and then, you get caught in the, eh, the wrong side of things.
31:35Been here quite deep, to be honest.
31:37Have you?
31:38Yeah.
31:39So, how does that all start, then?
31:41Just wanting to do better, really, you know what I mean?
31:42You think, oh, yeah, it's the high life, it's the good life, like, out there smoking weed with your mates, and then, you're going home and your man, she finds you a bag of weed and stuff like that, it just causes arguments, and then it's, it's just, it's just a nightmare.
31:58Quite bad, really.
31:59And when you started doing this, what was your mid-team, early teens?
32:03Yeah, well, 13, 14.
32:0413, 14.
32:05Was it just really, it's not even real in your life, you think it's doing good for you, but it's not.
32:10It's what it's doing to other people around here, you know what I mean, like, it's hurt me man, big time.
32:14It wasn't really fair to me mum and dad, because they've, like, took me and looked after me from a baby, if you're getting me.
32:21Mm-hm.
32:22So.
32:23You said from a baby, so you...
32:24Yeah.
32:25So they're, like, not biological parents.
32:27Oh, right.
32:28Yeah, they're, like, me uncle and auntie, really.
32:30Yeah.
32:31Me, er...
32:32So if you don't mind me asking them, what?
32:33Your mum and dad?
32:34Yeah, me mum, me mum, passed away, like, when I was, like, six months old.
32:38Oh, no.
32:39She, like, killed yourself.
32:41Oh, I'm sorry, man.
32:43Nah, sorry.
32:44I didn't, I didn't expect it to.
32:46Yeah, yeah, she, yeah, she stopped her own life, me mum.
32:49And, er, I got put into care.
32:51What, when you was a baby?
32:52Yeah, when I was a baby, and then your mum and dad, now, like, oh, my mum and dad,
32:57and my auntie and uncle, like, yeah, yeah.
32:59They've taken me.
33:00So doing all that to them, what I've done was wrong, because it was, like, shit they've done for you, lads, you know what I mean?
33:06Yeah.
33:07You talk to your mum and dad now about your mum?
33:10As a kid, as a kid, I was quite, like, I feel like that's where I was a bit of a loose cannon and went down certain ways and stuff like that,
33:17because I didn't really know who I was myself, in a way, if you get what I mean?
33:20Because that was, like, a big question to me, like, was it my fault or what I could, you know what I mean?
33:25Just little, like, mad stuff like that, really, because it is quite a horrible way to go, really, isn't it?
33:31Well, it is, it's the worst way to go.
33:33With suicide.
33:34Yeah, yeah, so what?
33:35It's going to sound weird, but I was angry towards him now.
33:38And I thought you...
33:39For doing it?
33:40Yeah, yeah.
33:41I think, I think my opinion, like, suicide's changed over the years for a few reasons.
33:47One, I've had friends.
33:48Me?
33:49I've done it.
33:50Actually, it wasn't quite recent.
33:51So I need to hear that.
33:52No, it's fine.
33:53Erm, but, so I struggle with mental health.
33:56I struggle with depression.
33:58I've had an accident 18 months ago, and I've been honest with you, like, I didn't want to kill myself, but I didn't want to be alive.
34:04Does that make sense?
34:05Yeah?
34:06I've been like that a few times.
34:07Yeah, you know what I mean?
34:08I know exactly what you mean.
34:09I didn't know if I had it in me.
34:10Yeah, it's just, yeah.
34:11And then it also, actually, I've been quite reflective, actually, when we met recently, is that I always thought it was selfish, and I always thought there was a way out.
34:20But then, actually, I've come to understand it a little bit more now.
34:24If there's a level, which there is, underneath where I felt, and you can go lower, I actually really understand it.
34:33Yeah.
34:34So, what is it you want to do now, then?
34:38Just keep going, and I just keep behaving.
34:40Keep doing well for myself.
34:42Yeah.
34:43But, yeah.
34:45You've got all these reasons to be successful, and do well.
34:50I think the biggest one is for you as well.
34:53You know what I mean?
34:54Everyone, like, tries to please and do this with other people, but I think you need to do it to yourself.
34:58From what you've been through and what you've experienced, you deserve it, you know what I mean?
35:02You deserve it, you've got plenty to offer.
35:04So much.
35:05It's all of these.
35:06I'm totally.
35:07That's a scouting thing.
35:08You've dealt with so much in such a young life.
35:14He's only 17.
35:16And I think everyone is guilty of being judgmental, whether it's kids and their behaviour, or why kids hang around the streets, or they're doing some of the things that they're doing.
35:27And the more time we've spent with these lads, you realise actually there's reasons for people's behaviour.
35:33And that's the thing that needs to be tackled.
35:36You know, I think we've got positive role models for kids.
35:40Show them a different way.
35:41Show them the opportunities that they could have.
35:43Which we're trying to do.
35:46By getting a group of boys or girls who believe they're a team.
35:51Giving them confidence.
35:53A sense of belonging.
35:55And ultimately, trying to apply them things into their lives.
36:01You've just got to prove it works.
36:03We've got to prove it's right and it does make a difference.
36:06Who's confident of practicing with the hard ball?
36:14In Blackpool, Freddie's hoping the girls will soon be ready to play their first ever match.
36:20So if you're confident, you can go in the net.
36:23But some of the team are still struggling to get to grips with the hard ball.
36:27We don't want them, you know, not coming to cricket because they're scared of getting hurt.
36:31But we also need to realise that if we're going to play a match, it's going to be a hard ball.
36:35It's a tricky one at the moment.
36:37Right, get yourself a bat.
36:38I don't want to put them in a game against another team and embarrass them.
36:41I want them to compete.
36:42I want them to feel confident in what they're doing.
36:44If it goes well, it could bring some confidence out of them.
36:48But on the flip side of that though, if it goes badly and embarrass themselves,
36:52it could be back to square one.
36:55Oh!
36:56Oh!
36:57My arse cheek!
36:59Ah!
37:02Do you think I am a professional?
37:04It just feels like we're not progressing at all.
37:06We're not.
37:09We were even better than this on the first week.
37:13But it's not just the hard ball affecting the team.
37:16Go on, Molly.
37:17No, do it properly.
37:18Oh, Molly, mate, do it properly.
37:19I beg.
37:20Oh, sorry.
37:21Don't get lippy, mate.
37:22Oh, shut up, Maddie.
37:23You can't tell I'm not in the mood.
37:25Oh, shut up.
37:26Go on.
37:27Go on.
37:28You know what?
37:29I can't be arsed in a bit.
37:30Don't be giving me mouth, please, mate.
37:31I can't be arsed.
37:32Can we just play a bit of cricket?
37:34Stupid ****.
37:36Ain't you the stupid cow?
37:38No.
37:39I really just don't want to seem to fall apart.
37:42It's like a bitchiness and drama and girls and blah, blah, blah.
37:48When you're playing a game, you have to get on.
37:51Like, everyone has to get on.
37:52And right now, that's not happening.
37:54Well, I don't think we're a team at the moment at all.
37:57No.
37:58No.
37:59I reckon we just get rid of her.
38:01We don't need her.
38:03With the girls, it's different.
38:06A lot more emotional than the boys.
38:08And that seems to be surfacing quite a bit.
38:11They're struggling with a bit of confidence.
38:13But then one thing which is a bit more worrying
38:15is that there's been a bit of falling out.
38:17Different friendship groups.
38:19People getting young with one another.
38:21That's the funny thing about sport,
38:23and in particular cricket.
38:25You know, even with England,
38:27you get put together a group of people
38:29that I reckon, unless you're playing cricket,
38:31you would never meet.
38:33But just respect them, just learn how to get along.
38:36You don't have to be best at most people.
38:41It seems to be a bit of falling out.
38:43Is that fair?
38:45What is it about the two of you that clashes?
38:47You just don't like each other.
38:48Don't like each other or you don't try with each other?
38:51I don't know.
38:53How can you solve it?
38:54Because the problem is with you two,
38:55such strong characters,
38:57is if you're kicking off or not getting on,
38:59I think it's going to affect everyone.
39:03I don't actually know.
39:04Do you think there's a world in which the two of you get on?
39:08No.
39:09Why? We never get on.
39:10Why? I don't know.
39:11It's about trying.
39:15You don't have to get on best of mates.
39:18We can respect each other, can't you?
39:20Yeah.
39:21Try and not row.
39:23Kick off.
39:25Just be teammates.
39:27Yeah?
39:28They just can't keep going as they are, can they?
39:33We're meant to be trying to be closer as a team,
39:37so we can then play the matches and we can do more things.
39:41But if they keep kicking off with each other,
39:42that's not a possibility at the minute.
39:44With problems mounting in Blackpool,
39:49Freddie's headed back to Manchester,
39:51where he's hoping to create his third team
39:53and restore Newton Heath Cricket Club to its former glory.
39:57Yeah, it's been about a month since we were here.
40:00Last time, there was all sorts going on.
40:02We had to clear up, didn't we?
40:03So people had turned out, there were people in bushes picking litter up,
40:07doing every little bit they can.
40:09Coming back, you can see nothing's been done.
40:14The ground just keeps growing.
40:16The clubhouse is just getting slowly worse.
40:19It's just been left.
40:21It seems at the minute,
40:22everything's just come to a halt at this place.
40:25Keen to find out what's been happening.
40:28Freddie's catching up with John.
40:29Hi, John.
40:30One of the club's trustees.
40:32There's a problem with the lease, Freddie.
40:35The lease has gone missing.
40:39We've spoken to solicitors.
40:41We've received advice off them and we're going to act on that.
40:44What's the advice?
40:46Find the lease?
40:48Well, that's the first one.
40:50This is the original lease, which was from 1859.
40:55It's written in Old English and it mentions sport in there.
41:00But it doesn't actually mention Newton Heath Cricket Club.
41:04So we need to find the lease.
41:09But you don't know where that is?
41:10At this moment, it's misplaced.
41:13Right.
41:14It's one thing after another, isn't it?
41:16If you don't get it resolved...
41:18No, it will be resolved.
41:19No, it will be.
41:20Will be.
41:21I don't say you won't, John.
41:22Yeah.
41:23But, again, it's time, isn't it?
41:25It is time, yeah.
41:27That's the issue.
41:29Yeah.
41:30The way I understand it is, if we don't sort this lease out now,
41:34everything we're doing is in jeopardy.
41:37In some ways, it's not even a...
41:39It's a non-starter.
41:40Yes.
41:42We fully understand that and the need to get that sorted ASAP.
41:47We don't even know if we've got the ground.
41:50We don't know where we stand.
41:51You can't then go to people, ask them to help or give money.
41:55But why would anybody do that if you've not got a lease?
41:59Yeah, this is just becoming far harder than I ever imagined.
42:04It's just barrier after barrier.
42:06It's just obstacles everywhere.
42:09Also, as well, I'm going to go and try and get a team tonight.
42:13You know, we've put an open session out for people to turn up
42:16and come and try cricket, hopefully come and join the club.
42:19But what are they joining?
42:21With the clubhouse at Newton Heath still not fit for purpose,
42:25tonight's tryouts for Freddie's third team
42:29are being held at an established cricket club in North Manchester.
42:32Is it just us two?
42:34No, it's going to be about...
42:35There's going to be more of you.
42:36No, I don't think they really need.
42:37A couple more.
42:39Come on, lads.
42:40How are you?
42:41All right?
42:42Cheers, lads.
42:44The thing about this is, it's meant to be a tryout,
42:47but whoever comes is in.
42:50It's not like a trial.
42:51It's not how good you are at cricket.
42:53If you turn up, we'll have you.
42:56There you go.
42:57Yeah, just looking up, there's another one there.
43:02Yeah, I'll have him.
43:05I think with everything going on at the club and all the problems,
43:09I think this is probably even more important now.
43:12You know, if you're going to say, look, there's people waiting to play.
43:14You think I'll be the next Freddie Flintoff?
43:24Kyle, nice to meet you.
43:25You too.
43:26Nice to meet you, are you all right?
43:27Shall we get out on grass?
43:28Come on, lads.
43:33Great shot.
43:35Which one?
43:36Presley.
43:37What a name that is.
43:38Like Elvis, innit?
43:39My hero, Elvis.
43:40You all right?
43:41Thanks for coming.
43:42I'm Fred.
43:43You all right?
43:44You all right?
43:45Nice to meet you.
43:46You all right?
43:47Come join us, come join us.
43:48You coming?
43:49All right, firstly, I'm Fred.
43:50This is Kyle.
43:51I just want to thank everyone for turning up today and coming down.
43:53Throw yourselves into it.
43:54Whatever standard, whatever level.
43:55Encourage each other and have some fun.
43:58It's not the hardest game in the world.
43:59You've got to throw a ball, catch a ball and hit a ball.
44:02All right.
44:03Kyle?
44:04Yeah, should get going.
44:05The net's in the corner.
44:06We'll do a bit of batting and bowling.
44:08Use these balls.
44:09You know, they're quite soft.
44:10It's not going to hurt or anything.
44:12If you've never bowled before, think of a windmill.
44:15This bowling arm, imagine a windmill coming over.
44:18That's going towards the batter.
44:20Just have a go.
44:21Let's try it.
44:22See what happens, yeah?
44:23Did I have to bowl?
44:24Yeah, yeah, bounce once.
44:25Yeah, like this.
44:26Here he is.
44:27Come on, Haz.
44:28Look at what you've got.
44:29Oh!
44:30Boy, what is that?
44:31One more, one more, because that was nothing.
44:33Eleven boys have turned up for the tryouts.
44:36But some have never even picked up a cricket bat before.
44:39I don't know what I'm doing.
44:42One up, down, over.
44:44One up, it's okay.
44:45It's okay, it's okay, it's okay.
44:48Oh!
44:49I can't control it, wallah!
44:51It's so much harder than it looks, isn't it?
44:53I'm glad I can't control it.
44:54It's varying degrees of ability, but...
44:57It's all foul.
44:58Come on, Presley.
44:59Come on, Presley.
45:02They're trying the nuts off, aren't they?
45:05Freddie, chuck a ball for me, please.
45:07Yeah.
45:08Well, let's see what you've got.
45:0916-year-old Presley is no stranger to sport,
45:14but he's never been part of a cricket team.
45:17I'm pretty cocky in sports and stuff,
45:19but it's the word to be, you know what I mean?
45:21Confidence is key.
45:22Most important thing, these.
45:24Yeah, yeah.
45:25Watch it as hard as you can.
45:27Send it!
45:28My favourite thing to do is go fishing,
45:31cos I'm not old enough to go out to the pub and have a pond,
45:34so that's my pub, the pond.
45:38I don't know.
45:40He's teaching me how to cricket.
45:41I'll teach him how to play fish.
45:44You ready?
45:46Here we go.
45:47I'm used to doing it with plastic.
45:51It's more heavier.
45:52I'm blaming the equipment until I get better.
45:55Get yourselves a drink.
45:58I'm knackered.
45:59I'm dying now.
46:00Yeah, it's hard, isn't it?
46:02Freddie?
46:03Yeah.
46:04Honestly, I thought cricket was a lazy sport
46:06to me until I played then.
46:07Oh, a lazy sport?
46:08Yeah.
46:09Really?
46:10What do you usually do?
46:11You just play a tiny?
46:12No, I just chill at home.
46:13I go fishing now and then.
46:14What do you fish for?
46:15Corp.
46:16Yeah?
46:17Yeah.
46:18How big?
46:19Do you want to tell you a lie?
46:20Tell me a lie.
46:21No, like, catching decent, 10, 13 pounds.
46:24Have many of you played cricket?
46:26No.
46:27No?
46:28No.
46:29Is everyone enjoying it, though?
46:30Yeah, it's good.
46:31Yeah.
46:32Good.
46:33Hey, fancy doing more?
46:34Yeah.
46:35Yeah.
46:38Do you know what?
46:39The nicest thing after the day I've had,
46:41going to Newton Eve and listening to John's Tale of War
46:45and leases and pitches, you know, I was expecting tonight nothing,
46:50but it was a good turnout.
46:53The nicest thing was, when you talk about putting a team together,
46:56because you get a load of lads, they've got nothing in common,
46:59really, and you're just lumped together.
47:02And sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't,
47:04but definitely from what I've seen tonight,
47:06that is the makings of a team.
47:09Do you want to catch a car for?
47:11No, I've caught roach, bream.
47:14I think it was brilliant.
47:17Everyone comes back, made a couple of mates,
47:20exchanged numbers and that.
47:22Well, Morgana told me always to kiss the fish for good luck.
47:25My breath must have stunk.
47:27It must have stunk.
47:28It must have stunk.
47:29It must have stunk.
47:30It must have stunk in the fish.
47:32Hopefully everyone gets better and we'll just start being the best that we can,
47:38the dream team.
47:41There's so many things that need doing, there's so many obstacles,
47:45but when you see what's just happened there,
47:47you think, yeah, we'll have to have a go at this.
47:49We'll have to do it.
47:50Yeah, yeah.
47:51Does anyone know what we're doing?
48:05No.
48:06In Blackpool, Freddie's still keen for the girls to play their first match
48:10as soon as possible.
48:12So in a last ditch attempt to bring them together as a team,
48:16he's taking them away from the cricket pitch
48:18and into the countryside to try and fix the rift in the group.
48:22One of the things we want from them is to become a team,
48:25a proper team and work together.
48:27I don't want to bond with any of you.
48:29I don't want to bond with good.
48:31Hopefully when we leave today, they become closer as a team
48:35and we can take that into the matches and what lies ahead for us.
48:40It sounds very easy, doesn't it?
48:42Putting white suits on, building a raft, cold water.
48:45What could possibly go wrong?
48:47You all right?
48:49No.
48:50How was the bus trip?
48:52It was a nightmare.
48:53Come on.
48:54Where are we going?
48:55What are we doing?
48:56I'm seeing a lake.
48:58Look at this, our race is this.
49:00Yeah, if I'm going back, we'll do raft building.
49:03Are we actually...
49:04I don't like raft building!
49:06I'm not going in that.
49:07Oh, my God!
49:09One of the things I want to work on today is becoming a proper team,
49:14working with each other, communicating with each other
49:17and spending time possibly with people you don't spend too much time with
49:20within the group.
49:21Go and get your wetsuits.
49:22Off you go.
49:23Oh, there's a snail on my coat!
49:25Don't stop!
49:26I already feel like there's going to be so many dramas
49:30and I'm not in the mood for it.
49:32Hopefully it will benefit us and not make it worse.
49:35Right.
49:36Are you helping with this tarpon?
49:41Right, so under there is everything that you're going to need
49:44to build these rafts.
49:45What I'm going to do now, I'm going to split you into two different teams.
49:47What?
49:48Team A.
49:49Maddie, Summer, Amy, Carla and Mila.
49:53I'm not happy with you.
49:54Right, come on.
49:55In your teams.
49:56I don't want to be in this group.
49:57It's interesting, isn't it?
49:58Straight away, Summer don't want to be in that group.
50:00It's not the people she knocks around with,
50:02but that's the whole purpose of today.
50:04Honestly, when I played, I hated anything like this.
50:09It's a spider!
50:10Oh!
50:11I didn't like building a raft,
50:12but then you've got to realise other people do
50:14and I didn't at times.
50:15We're in it together, aren't we?
50:16Yeah.
50:17Oh, there's poo!
50:19I'm a toe!
50:20Both teams have been given an hour to build their rafts
50:24before testing them out on the leg.
50:26Right over where?
50:27Yeah, like that.
50:28They get it wrong with water.
50:29You've got to do it proper.
50:31There is a consequence to not getting involved here.
50:33Yeah.
50:34Right, are we lifting up a corner each then?
50:35No.
50:36Oh!
50:37Max!
50:38Kick that one under.
50:39Thanks.
50:40We need to flip it.
50:41Look at theirs, they haven't flipped it.
50:44Yes, they have.
50:45Yes, they have.
50:46No, they haven't.
50:47Yes, they have!
50:48No, they haven't.
50:49Yes, they've flipped the thing.
50:50Look at them!
50:51Look at the long one going across.
50:52No!
50:53It doesn't matter, they've flipped the thing.
50:55Oh, no, what's happened?
50:57I think there's a bit of a head clash.
50:59Oh, my God.
51:00Oh, I want to go home, mate.
51:01This is dead.
51:02I want to go home.
51:03One minute you're enjoying it, and the next minute it's just all going off.
51:07I'm bored.
51:08Molly's given up.
51:10OK, whatever.
51:11This is just a joke at this point.
51:14So much for a team, isn't it?
51:16Everyone's against each other.
51:18Oh, my God, no.
51:20You know, we're going to play the first game of cricket soon,
51:23and we need everyone to be working together.
51:25Get back in, Molly, come on.
51:27Oh, can you not just do this?
51:28Wait.
51:29Wait.
51:34It's not moving.
51:35Molly, we could use your help right now.
51:38Come on.
51:39Molly, mate, come over here, mate.
51:40We need your help.
51:41Ah.
51:42Bloody hell, Mo.
51:45Right, get that one.
51:46That can go in the middle.
51:48I'll lift you place.
51:49Right, you ready?
51:50Go.
51:51Go.
51:52Go.
51:54Well done, Molly.
51:55Go on, Mo.
51:56Get that corner.
51:58This looks like a team.
52:00Teamwork!
52:02Nearly done.
52:03Now how are we going to tie them?
52:05Right, pass me that in one.
52:06There we go.
52:07Here we go.
52:08Yay!
52:09Look, we built a wrap.
52:10See?
52:11We did it.
52:12Well done.
52:13It's going to tip over straight away.
52:14My mascara is going to run.
52:15We've all obviously got to help each other to get in without panicking.
52:20Yay!
52:21It's gone.
52:22It's gone.
52:23It's gone.
52:24Nothing to see, just two 40-odd-year-old men.
52:25Right, shall we get in there?
52:26Let's get these wraps on the water.
52:27Oh, that's not seeing on.
52:28Oh, my God!
52:29Imagine that, wouldn't it?
52:30That's so safe, isn't it?
52:31Maybe we're having a right nightmare.
52:32Ah, this water's monkey, mate.
52:34Wait, wait, wait.
52:35It's so cold.
52:36I'm scared.
52:37I'm scared!
52:38I'm scared.
52:39I'm scared.
52:40I'm scared.
52:41I'm scared.
52:54I'm scared.
52:56I'm scared, I'm scared!
52:57I'm scared! I'm scared!
52:59I'm scared! I'm scared!
53:01You're going to get paddling?
53:03You are!
53:05You're doing so well.
53:09Oh, no!
53:11Oh, no!
53:13Oh!
53:15Hey!
53:17No, Tilly!
53:19Everywhere we go!
53:21Hey!
53:23Oh, that got me!
53:25People want to know!
53:27People want to know!
53:29Who we are!
53:31Who we are!
53:33Where we come from!
53:35So we tell them!
53:37We're from Blackpool!
53:39We're from Blackpool!
53:41The mighty, mighty Blackpool!
53:43The mighty, mighty Blackpool!
53:49Today's been perfect.
53:51It was so fun!
53:53I think it's built our confidence back up from when the last time we all had drama.
53:59Yeah, we've grown a lot closer together.
54:03It was just hilarious.
54:05It was so good.
54:07It was incredible, wasn't it?
54:09They got in the water, they were enjoying it.
54:11Everyone's smiling, everyone's laughing, helping each other.
54:13Everything that we could have expected.
54:15That was a good day.
54:17It was a good day, good day.
54:21I think it has helped us bond as a team.
54:23I think it has helped us bond as a team.
54:27We've all got more comfortable with each other, so if we need any help, we'll just ask for the help.
54:33To be fair, I got on with Molly quite good today and I was quite shocked.
54:47It's all about team yielding, to be fair, innit, and just getting on.
54:49I've really enjoyed it and I hope you have.
54:51Yeah, pushing you off, yeah, that was the best part.
54:55The pleasing part for myself and Kyle is that when you turned up off that bus, you saw what you were going to do and there's so many people saying,
54:57We're going there, don't want to build a raft, I don't want to do this, that and the other.
55:11And then every single one of you bought into it and then the other.
55:14You know, I got on with Molly quite good today and I was quite shocked.
55:16It's all about team yielding, to be fair, innit, and just getting on.
55:20I really enjoyed it and I hope you have.
55:21Yeah, pushing you off, yeah.
55:22That was the best part.
55:23Yeah, that was the best part.
55:24Yeah, that was the best part, yeah.
55:25And then every single one of you bought into it and every one of you worked together.
55:31This is the first time I thought, actually, we've got a cricket team here.
55:35You're talking to people you don't necessarily spend a lot of time with within the team.
55:39And for me, I've got to say I'm so proud of you.
55:43And you should be so proud of yourselves as well.
55:47I even managed to try not to smile again.
55:50Molly might crack one in a minute.
55:52We feel like a proper team right now.
55:54That is a team.
55:59Everything that we hoped for from today happened.
56:04That'll put us in good stead going into a cricket match.
56:07They've come so far.
56:09They should be proud of themselves tonight.
56:11I think, you know, me and Kyle are definitely.
56:13We're the only two masked lesbians on here.
56:16That's you, not me.
56:17Are you joking?
56:18You're a masked lesbian.
56:19I'm not a lesbian.
56:20Yes, you are.
56:21I'm not a lesbian.
56:22There's no possible way you're straight, mommy.
56:24I'm not a lesbian.
56:26What is this?
56:28So close.
56:29You're out.
56:30Oh, mate.
56:31Fuming.
56:32Got to run.
56:33You hit it.
56:34Doing three hasn't made it three times harder.
56:36It's almost made it ten times harder.
