Oil & gas provide 77.7% of Russia’s federal budget in 2025, funding its war in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s drone strikes disabled 17% of Russia’s refining capacity, hitting 10 major refineries, including Lukoil Volgograd, Rosneft Ryazan, and Samara’s Syzran refinery.

00:00Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service has reported that Russia has about 13.2 billion
00:10tons of economically viable, proven oil reserves, enough for roughly 25 years of production,
00:17according to Euromedan Press media outlet. Russian oil remains a key source of revenue
00:23that funds its military aggression against Ukraine. In 2025, profits from the oil and gas
00:30sector account for about 77.7% of Russia's federal budget. According to the International Liberty
00:38Institute, the main buyers of Russian oil remain Asian countries as European markets are largely
00:45restricted by sanctions. At the same time, 96% of the subsoil fund has already been allocated,
00:52indicating near-full utilization of available fields. According to the results of 2024 auctions,
01:01one-time payments for hydrocarbon extraction rights amounted to only $50 million, with half the revenue
01:07from placer gold mining, a sector less significant for the budget. This signals a sharp decline in
01:15investor interest in Russia's oil and gas industry. Ukraine's intelligence notes that over the next
01:2110 to 15 years, the potential for further exploration of existing fields in Russia will be exhausted.
01:29Limited funding and a lack of technology to develop hard-to-reach geologically complex and remote
01:36regions undermine Russia's energy and economic security, casting doubt on the long-term stability
01:43of its oil and gas sector. Earlier, Euromedan Press reported that Ukraine disabled 17% of Russia's oil
01:51refining capacity through a wave of recent drone strikes targeting key infrastructure. Reuters calculated
01:59that Ukraine's strikes have taken out 1.1 million barrels per day of Russian oil refining capacity.
02:06The drones targeted 10 plants, including Lukoil's Volgograd refinery and Rosneft's facility in Ryazan. Other damaged refineries include those in Rostov, Samara, Saratov and Krasnodar regions. In addition to oil refineries, Ukrainian drones attacked the Druzba pipeline and Novatek's Ustluga export terminal and gas processing complex in the Baltic Sea.
02:34The Scizoran refinery in Samara Oblast was critically affected. Key equipment was destroyed, rendering it unable to function.
02:44Afipski in Krasnodar Krai and the facility in Novoquibyshevsk was also hit.
02:50The attacks carried out over the past month have disrupted fuel processing, sparked gasoline shortages and hit the core of Moscow's war economy as Washington seeks to broker a peace deal.
03:02According to Sergei Vakulenko of the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center, the damaged plants have lost only part of their output, but even limited disruptions can impact supply.
03:15He previously worked for Gazprom Neft.
03:18Russia depends on oil and gas for a quarter of its budget revenues.
03:22This year, it raised defence spending by 25%, reaching Cold War-era levels.
03:29Despite sanctions, Moscow continues large-scale weapons production.
03:34Still, economic growth has slowed, causing concern in the Kremlin.
03:38Baden-wielding riot police in a northern Serbia town on Friday fired tear gas and charged at thousands of peaceful protesters who were demanding free elections and justice after months of demonstrations against the autocratic rule of President Aleksandr Vucic.
04:06According to Associated Press, the protest led by university students came more than 10 months after a concrete canopy collapsed at a train station in the town of Novi Sad, killing 16 people.
04:19The disaster ignited a wave of public outrage over alleged state corruption and negligence, which demonstrators cite as causes of the collapse.
04:28There were no immediate reports of injuries in Friday's chaos triggered by the police action.
04:33Ambulances could be seen driving through Novi Sad streets.
04:38Vucic, who has said he wants to take Serbia to the European Union, has branded the protesters as terrorists who want to unseat him with the help of the West.
04:47He attended a gathering earlier this week in China that included Russian President Vladimir Putin and the leaders of China and North Korea, along with the Belarus and Iranian presidents.
04:57University students have been a key force behind nationwide protests to demand a free media, early elections, and criminal prosecutions against those responsible for the canopy collapse.
05:10Dozens of university professors, deans, and high school teachers have been sacked in the past months as authorities crack down on supporters of the students.
05:18The protest on Friday centered around a university building that was taken over by Vucic's loyalists and police over a week ago.
05:30Protesters in Novi Sad on Friday chanted, we want elections, and Vucic leave, as they vowed to defend the autonomy of the university.
05:38Shielded riot officers initially guarded some of the university buildings but reinforcements later arrived in anti-riot vehicles before marching toward the protestors.
05:48The city streets were engulfed in tear gas and smoke from stun grenades and flares as police chased the protestors away from the campus.
05:57The blitz police intervention reflects the increasingly tough response from Vucic to the protests.
06:02Vucic has refused to schedule a snap parliamentary vote requested by the demonstrators.
06:08Vucic has offered no evidence for the claims that the protests have been incited from abroad.
06:14Scores of students and other people have been jailed and beaten during the protests, drawing international criticism of Vucic's government.
06:22Scores of students and other people have been jailed and accused by the pastors of Vucic's government.
06:34Vucic has found the possibility of trepidation of a new Metro City of Australia and in the past and in the last few days.
06:40It's only a It's the place of the show!
06:43The police have fitted to stand as a classic in the past.
06:46The victory is the only time to fight.
