00:00:00A battle of two giants in the wrestling world here tonight.
00:00:07Look at these two men. Look at what they've done to each other's bodies.
00:00:11These two men hate each other.
00:00:14Both men are spent punishing themselves in what has been one of the most personal rivalries we have ever witnessed.
00:00:25Boy, when you talk about blood and you talk about hate between opponents,
00:00:29you see just a little bit of it boiling right here.
00:00:33Two men with a king victory for each other.
00:00:37It's a match-up. Neither man will accept defeat it.
00:00:42This has been an incredible physical confrontation.
00:00:48The Grudge Match of the Century!
00:00:59Chemistry is, by definition, the study of composition, properties, and behavior of matter.
00:01:12Its central focus is the interaction between atoms and various forms of energy.
00:01:17That's why you hear certain individuals say they have an inexplicable chemistry with someone else.
00:01:22You'll hear people say,
00:01:23We just clicked!
00:01:24Or,
00:01:25We formed an instant bond.
00:01:27Which all boils down to chemistry.
00:01:30Now, most often, the chemistry is a positive energy with two individuals.
00:01:34However, negative energy just isn't all that bad.
00:01:37In fact, that's how we arrived at the top 25 rivalries in wrestling history.
00:01:42I'm Renee Young, and welcome to our countdown.
00:01:45It took a lot of long hours in the lab, concocting just the right formula,
00:01:51trying to figure out what belonged in the countdown,
00:01:53and then trying to figure out where each rivalry needed to be placed.
00:01:57Now, the beauty of countdowns is that they are extremely subjective,
00:02:00and inevitably, I mean, someone's just going to get left off the list entirely,
00:02:04which does go ahead and cause its fair share of debate.
00:02:07Now, you're not going to agree with all of the rankings,
00:02:09but hopefully you're going to enjoy the journey.
00:02:11So, now that we've set the table and mixed the various properties,
00:02:14let's see what happens.
00:02:16The first rivalry is between two men who elevated each other's careers in the late 90s.
00:02:21The reactions of atoms and changes in matter and mixtures
00:02:24is a perfect way to describe the rivalry between Triple H and Mick Foley.
00:02:41The first thing I think of is the physicality.
00:02:44This is turning.
00:02:46The brutality.
00:02:48Busted wide open, what the hell?
00:02:50They call one of them the cerebral assassin.
00:02:53Like him or not, Triple H has taken his game to another level here tonight,
00:02:58or maybe a new lull.
00:03:00And they call the other one frigging crazy.
00:03:03PanCon, one of the most tormented souls ever, perhaps,
00:03:07in the World Wrestling Federation.
00:03:09Some call him demented.
00:03:12And so, when those kind of powers meet up,
00:03:16it's nothing but physicality.
00:03:19How can they even walk?
00:03:21How can they even stand?
00:03:28You know, some of the matches that I remember the most
00:03:31were definitely at King of the Ring,
00:03:33when the Blue Blood beat mankind.
00:03:37But that's not when it got good to me.
00:03:40Once they locked it up and got physical,
00:03:42that's the stuff that stands out in my mind.
00:03:44This is turning to a barroom brawl here
00:03:48with Hemsley and Mankind.
00:03:51Hunter Hearst, Hemsley, and Mankind
00:03:53in the parking lot, hammering away.
00:03:57Jack, this Jack's rims have got to be aching
00:03:59from the pounding that he has been taking.
00:04:02Hunter Hearst, Hemsley, and Mankind
00:04:04attempting to destroy each other.
00:04:08Oh, he's on the freaking loose!
00:04:09The Blue Blood is kind of where they went with him early on,
00:04:20and I don't think that was close enough to him
00:04:23for that character to truly stand out.
00:04:26Once Hunter became Hunter Hearst, Hemsley, Triple H,
00:04:30I think it was just who he was all along.
00:04:33And he was just fighting to get out.
00:04:35And Mick was his proverbial paper bag.
00:04:38Yo, here comes Triple H!
00:04:40Triple H has just destroyed a steel tear
00:04:43on the spine of Texas Jack.
00:04:46Mick Foley's been busted up from ear to ear
00:04:48at the hands of Triple H!
00:04:51Hunter's willing, was the kind of,
00:04:52and still is the kind of character
00:04:54that would do anything to win.
00:04:57And so was Mick.
00:04:58The WWF champion is being assaulted!
00:05:02Look at this, J.R., and Cactus Jack is enjoying this!
00:05:05Well, I know it's a street fight, but...
00:05:07And I love Cactus Jack,
00:05:09but this has gone a little bit too far.
00:05:10You're not lying!
00:05:12At that point, everybody knew
00:05:14what Mick Foley was willing to do.
00:05:16That idiot Cactus Jack will sacrifice his own body
00:05:18to hurt somebody else!
00:05:20I think it might have been one of the earlier times
00:05:24that we understood just how far Triple H would go.
00:05:28We know without a shot of a doubt
00:05:29that Triple H is capable of doing anything
00:05:32to keep the vaunted
00:05:34World Wrestling Federation Championship.
00:05:37You know, we all know and love Mick
00:05:39for that kind of insanity.
00:05:41That champion now has been decimated!
00:05:45And to see somebody else that's willing to go there
00:05:47as admirable on a real level,
00:05:50as entertaining as crap on a wrestling level, you know?
00:05:54Look at these two men!
00:05:55Look at what they've done to each other's bodies!
00:05:57When their willpowers collided,
00:05:59it made somewhat of an explosion.
00:06:02This war for the WWF title is not over!
00:06:05Good God!
00:06:06This is a piercing brawl!
00:06:08Look at me!
00:06:08Oh, yeah!
00:06:09It was like...
00:06:10For God's sakes!
00:06:12Stop it!
00:06:14I think it worked so well
00:06:18because of the contrast in styles.
00:06:21Triple H, he's known as maybe the greatest technical
00:06:23WWE champion that we've ever had!
00:06:25Cactus Jack is as hardcore as anybody could ever be!
00:06:29I think that's why it meshed together well
00:06:31to make beautiful physical chemistry.
00:06:34My God, their bodies have been ravaged,
00:06:37but they continue to fight here!
00:06:38Two men with a keen hatred for each other!
00:06:41And they're not just the best at getting brutal,
00:06:43they're the best at telling stories.
00:06:46Cactus Jack!
00:06:48I sure as hell am not a normal man!
00:06:51The myth!
00:06:53What I am is one bad son of a bitch!
00:06:56The legend!
00:06:57And I will make you suffer!
00:06:59As sadistic as you can be!
00:07:03I will kick your pansy little ass!
00:07:06I will reach down to a place
00:07:08that I have never been in my life
00:07:12and be that much more sadistic!
00:07:14Be that much more twisted!
00:07:17Be that much more evil
00:07:19than you could ever imagine
00:07:21you could be in your life!
00:07:24You're willing to go all out
00:07:26and you got a guy across the ring from you
00:07:28that's willing to do the same?
00:07:30Chances are you're gonna rock the world.
00:07:32That's what they did.
00:07:33You've got to give these two men
00:07:36supreme credit
00:07:37for what they have put themselves through!
00:07:41I have never seen anything like this!
00:07:43Unbelievable!
00:07:44This is time!
00:08:04What started on television
00:08:26wasn't the really beginning of the feud.
00:08:28Taz and Sabu were both coming in.
00:08:30Both were largely unknown to the larger audience.
00:08:33They were known to niche audiences around the country
00:08:35and in Japan and different places.
00:08:38But both of those guys I think
00:08:39were running some kind of
00:08:41in their head personal race with each other.
00:08:44I'm better than him,
00:08:44he's better than me,
00:08:45or he's trying to be better than me,
00:08:46whatever.
00:08:47So it started in the dressing room.
00:08:48I never saw those two talking.
00:08:51These two, you could tell,
00:08:52didn't really fancy each other.
00:08:54They weren't best of friends
00:08:55and their personalities were so different.
00:08:57It's really difficult to fake that.
00:08:59You could see that there was
00:09:01some sort of tension between these two.
00:09:03And I think that's part of what made it work so well.
00:09:05I don't like the looks of this.
00:09:07Taz's style in the ring,
00:09:09as far as I was concerned,
00:09:09was the most straightforward ground attack
00:09:12of anybody that ever wrestled.
00:09:13Taz brought all that old school style,
00:09:15the crispness of the moves,
00:09:17the energy that came to each spot.
00:09:19And they would always culminate
00:09:20with this incredibly explosion of power
00:09:22in these suplexes.
00:09:23We have met the most animalistic wrestler
00:09:29in the history of this sport.
00:09:31We have met Sad Boo.
00:09:33Get him out of here.
00:09:34When you've been around the wrestling business
00:09:36as long as I have been,
00:09:37over three decades now,
00:09:38very few things can excite you.
00:09:40The first time I saw Sad Boo
00:09:41hit his triple jump moonsault
00:09:43and, you know,
00:09:43set the chair up.
00:09:44I couldn't figure out what he's doing.
00:09:45The guy's laying there
00:09:46and sets the chair up.
00:09:47It just didn't look right.
00:09:48And he ran the other way.
00:09:50John picked the chair,
00:09:51top rope,
00:09:52and I remember just exploding
00:09:53up out of the chair like a fan.
00:09:55Thinking,
00:09:56my God,
00:09:56that's impressive.
00:09:58And so all of those elements
00:09:59come into play.
00:10:00You have Sad Boo,
00:10:00this homicidal,
00:10:01genocidal maniac
00:10:02doing all these crazy moves
00:10:04and throwing his body in the line.
00:10:06And then you have Taz,
00:10:07the human suplex machine.
00:10:09And all of those elements
00:10:10sort of pulled together
00:10:11in this nice,
00:10:13neat little ball
00:10:14that the fans really
00:10:15became very passionate about.
00:10:18For one year,
00:10:20one miserable year,
00:10:22I have been choking out
00:10:23man after man
00:10:25after man.
00:10:27There's one thing left to do
00:10:29and there's one man left
00:10:31for me
00:10:32to choke out.
00:10:34There's only
00:10:34one little thing
00:10:36stopping Saboo.
00:10:38Fear!
00:10:40Saboo!
00:10:41Fear's Taz!
00:10:44Saboo felt
00:10:45on it that
00:10:46there was no reason
00:10:48for him to respond to it.
00:10:50You know,
00:10:50some people,
00:10:51some of the boys
00:10:52in the dressing room
00:10:52believed that maybe
00:10:53Saboo was afraid of him
00:10:54or whatever.
00:10:55I think Taz was going more
00:10:56from that wrestling idea
00:10:58of I'm going to keep
00:10:58calling out
00:10:59and just making fun of you
00:11:00and trying to make you
00:11:01look foolish
00:11:02and eventually
00:11:03you'll respond.
00:11:04Just imagine
00:11:05what I could do to you
00:11:06if you ever had the guts
00:11:08to get in the ring with me.
00:11:10The longer you make me wait,
00:11:14the more vicious
00:11:15the f***ing ass
00:11:16kicking you time.
00:11:19Saboo was much more
00:11:20concerned with getting
00:11:21his stuff in
00:11:22and in that
00:11:2312, 14 month build up
00:11:25he had some pretty
00:11:25amazing matches.
00:11:26He built his own lore
00:11:28over here
00:11:28and I think that's also
00:11:30part of the reason
00:11:30why the angle
00:11:31worked so well
00:11:32because Saboo
00:11:34was building
00:11:34his whole legacy
00:11:35in ECW over here.
00:11:37Taz was calling him out
00:11:38but Taz was also
00:11:39building his own legacy
00:11:40on this side
00:11:41and so it wasn't just
00:11:42wrestler A
00:11:42versus wrestler B
00:11:43it was legacy
00:11:45versus legacy
00:11:46these two giants
00:11:47of ECW
00:11:48that had laid themselves
00:11:49out of being
00:11:49what ECW
00:11:50was supposed to be
00:11:51and they finally met
00:11:52like two massive storms
00:11:54running into each other.
00:11:55Saboo!
00:11:56I'm gonna choke you out!
00:12:01See you on the 13th!
00:12:08Ladies and gentlemen
00:12:09Extreme Championship Wrestling
00:12:12presents
00:12:13the Grudge Match
00:12:14of the Century!
00:12:16As excited as I was
00:12:17for the pay-per-view
00:12:18and for the company
00:12:18I was more as a fan
00:12:20excited to see
00:12:21these two come together
00:12:22to see what was gonna happen
00:12:23between these two
00:12:23because I knew
00:12:24you know
00:12:25they both had
00:12:26this amazing approach
00:12:28to this angle
00:12:29that had built up
00:12:30and it was finally
00:12:31coming to fruition.
00:12:33These two men
00:12:33want to get rocked
00:12:34and if you think
00:12:35you know pro wrestling
00:12:36if you think
00:12:37you're smart and trained
00:12:38I'll tell you something
00:12:40these two men
00:12:41hate each other!
00:12:42When I saw those two
00:12:43standing face to face
00:12:44you could literally
00:12:46cut the tension
00:12:47with the knife
00:12:48it was so thick
00:12:50and palpable
00:12:50in the building.
00:12:51The fans had invested
00:12:52so much emotional time
00:12:54into watching
00:12:55these two lions
00:12:56their paths
00:12:58run concurrent
00:12:58so when they finally
00:13:00met face to face
00:13:01it truly was
00:13:02the immovable object
00:13:03meeting the irresistible
00:13:04force in ECW
00:13:05the human suplex machine
00:13:07versus the homicidal
00:13:08suicidal
00:13:08genocidal
00:13:09saboo
00:13:09it was everything
00:13:11ECW was meant to be.
00:13:13And there it is!
00:13:14The cat to hide Jermaine!
00:13:15The transmission!
00:13:16It wasn't just the
00:13:27exclamation point
00:13:28at the end of the sentence
00:13:29it was
00:13:30there's all this
00:13:31and that was pretty cool
00:13:33now what more
00:13:34are we going to get from it?
00:13:35You saboo
00:13:36you I need
00:13:38you I need
00:13:40to keep me going
00:13:41you're my fuel
00:13:44Saboo
00:13:45bring it
00:13:46each of their matches
00:13:47and each of the layers
00:13:48of that story
00:13:49like an onion being
00:13:50peeled away
00:13:50Saboo was always
00:13:52good enough
00:13:53to get in the ring
00:13:55and on his side
00:13:57of the equation
00:13:57just throw that
00:13:59you know
00:14:00for lack of better
00:14:01terminology
00:14:01organized chaos
00:14:02into the ring
00:14:04and Taz
00:14:05has that
00:14:06you know
00:14:06that pent up
00:14:07rage that seems
00:14:08to be blowing in
00:14:09somewhere under the surface
00:14:10so anytime you put
00:14:11those parts
00:14:12of the chemistry equation
00:14:13into the pot
00:14:14and just put a little bit
00:14:15of the heat under it
00:14:16it's really easy
00:14:17to make it work
00:14:17You are witnessing
00:14:19yet another epic battle
00:14:21in the war
00:14:22the war that has been
00:14:24waged
00:14:24for years
00:14:26here at ECW
00:14:28between the suicidal
00:14:29homicidal
00:14:30genocidal
00:14:31maniac taboo
00:14:33and the human suplex
00:14:35machine tech
00:14:36This is one of these
00:14:37seminal moments
00:14:39in the company
00:14:40when two wrestlers
00:14:41come together
00:14:42and the company
00:14:43puts them out there
00:14:44and all the pieces
00:14:45of the puzzle
00:14:46fit in right
00:14:46the company put in
00:14:47the right mixture
00:14:47of time
00:14:48into the storyline
00:14:49and the build up
00:14:51and then allowed it
00:14:52to stir and sit
00:14:53just long enough
00:14:53that it became explosive
00:14:55and when those two
00:14:57stood in the ring
00:14:57face to face
00:14:58I'll challenge any fan
00:15:00whether they've seen it
00:15:00or not
00:15:01to go back
00:15:01and watch that
00:15:0230 second
00:15:03when they're standing there
00:15:04and Taz's hands
00:15:05are trembling
00:15:06and shaking
00:15:06and just sit back
00:15:07and watch and feel
00:15:09how that goes
00:15:10even if you do nothing
00:15:10at the build up
00:15:11but if you want to get
00:15:13the full feel for it
00:15:14go back and watch
00:15:15the build up
00:15:15to that match
00:15:16and then watch
00:15:17that face to face
00:15:18and you tell me
00:15:20if you don't think
00:15:20that belongs
00:15:21in the pantheon
00:15:22of the great angles
00:15:23over wrestling
00:15:23Eddie and Ray
00:15:39came up in the careers
00:15:41very similar
00:15:41because they were
00:15:43trained through family
00:15:44they had a love
00:15:45for the business
00:15:45you know
00:15:46they grew up in it
00:15:47you know
00:15:47from diapers
00:15:48their friendship
00:15:49had started in Mexico
00:15:50when Eddie was training there
00:15:51they knew of each other
00:15:52and I think just by
00:15:53traveling
00:15:54and seeing each other
00:15:55at shows
00:15:55they loved each other
00:15:57as friends
00:15:57you know
00:15:58there was a great respect
00:15:59the feud between
00:16:01Eddie and Ray
00:16:01in 97
00:16:02was incredible
00:16:03because they brought
00:16:04the lucha libre style
00:16:06into the ring
00:16:06Eddie Guerrero
00:16:07Ray Mysterio Jr.
00:16:09they are not
00:16:10straighters at all
00:16:11the stuff they did
00:16:12you know
00:16:12like the dives
00:16:13and the flips
00:16:15and turns
00:16:15you know
00:16:16they were doing each other
00:16:16it was a different style
00:16:18than versus
00:16:18what the big guy
00:16:19would do
00:16:20that was one
00:16:21for the highlight reel
00:16:22of the year
00:16:22right there guys
00:16:23that's one great thing
00:16:25about Ray Mysterio Jr.
00:16:26and Eddie
00:16:26something new every time
00:16:28oh
00:16:29you know
00:16:30they
00:16:30they proved to everyone
00:16:31that they could entertain
00:16:33and show their talent
00:16:34and be
00:16:35these two great superstars
00:16:36that gave their 100%
00:16:37LWO
00:16:49Latino World Order
00:16:51together we can do this
00:16:54Latino World Order
00:16:55Eddie felt very confident
00:16:57and he believed in this LWO
00:16:59because
00:16:59that's his culture
00:17:00it's his people
00:17:01it's what he
00:17:02it's who he was
00:17:03I want you
00:17:05to be part of us
00:17:06I run on my own
00:17:08wow
00:17:10how about
00:17:11how about that
00:17:12I was kind of upset
00:17:13that Ray didn't want
00:17:14to join it
00:17:14but I think that made
00:17:15a great story
00:17:16because there's that rivalry
00:17:17you have turned
00:17:18LWO down
00:17:20twice
00:17:22so we can either
00:17:23do this the hard way
00:17:24or the easy way
00:17:26I'm gonna do it
00:17:27the hard way
00:17:28anything for a good story
00:17:32was good for the people
00:17:33and it was good
00:17:34for our business
00:17:35wait a minute
00:17:45619 for Mysterio
00:17:47Eddie into the cover
00:17:49here are your winners
00:17:52and the new
00:17:54WWE Tag Team Champions
00:17:59Eddie Guerrero
00:18:01and Ray Mysterio
00:18:04Ray and Eddie
00:18:07had a great time
00:18:08you know
00:18:09to combine their talents
00:18:11and their skills
00:18:13I would call Mysterio
00:18:14and Guerrero
00:18:15a dream team
00:18:17arguably
00:18:18two of the greatest
00:18:19Latino wrestlers
00:18:20in the history
00:18:21of world wrestling entertainment
00:18:23I was impressed
00:18:24and I was entertained
00:18:25every night
00:18:25when those two got together
00:18:26for the first time
00:18:31in Wrestlemania history
00:18:32two Tag Team Champions
00:18:34will go one-on-one
00:18:36with each other
00:18:37they loved to show off
00:18:39and they knew
00:18:40that they two
00:18:41could get together
00:18:41and have a great match
00:18:43unbelievable athleticism
00:18:45look at this
00:18:46these men know each other
00:18:47so well
00:18:48but the great thing
00:18:51about Eddie and Ray
00:18:52that I remember
00:18:52is there wasn't a lot
00:18:53of like
00:18:54okay we're gonna do this
00:18:55this and this and that
00:18:55they knew that
00:18:56when they got out there
00:18:57they were gonna feel it
00:18:58and they were gonna go
00:18:59however their heart desired
00:19:00you know
00:19:01and that's
00:19:01I think that's where
00:19:02they show their true talent
00:19:04and the true love
00:19:05for the business
00:19:05because they
00:19:06they had confidence
00:19:08within themselves
00:19:08hey Ray
00:19:21do you remember
00:19:24when all this
00:19:25started between us
00:19:26I promised you
00:19:27you'd get hurt
00:19:28that feud
00:19:29was so much fun
00:19:30between Eddie and Ray
00:19:31when Dominic
00:19:32became into the picture
00:19:33of this custody battle
00:19:35Dominic
00:19:35Dominic
00:19:36Ray
00:19:38is not your father
00:19:39I'm your father
00:19:43Dominic
00:19:44I'm your puppy
00:19:47Dominic
00:19:48was a true
00:19:49natural actor
00:19:50he didn't get nervous
00:19:52and I think Ray
00:19:53was more nervous
00:19:54than Dominic
00:19:55ladies and gentlemen
00:19:56for the first time
00:19:57in the history
00:19:57of the WWE
00:19:58the custody of a child
00:20:00will be determined
00:20:01in a ladder match
00:20:02it was a story
00:20:04that was beyond
00:20:05what we could ever imagine
00:20:07and to work with
00:20:08Dominic and Ray
00:20:09Eddie had a great time
00:20:10with them
00:20:11come on Ray
00:20:14yeah
00:20:15yeah
00:20:16yeah
00:20:16Ray Mysterio
00:20:19has his son back
00:20:20it was an incredible success
00:20:23their style
00:20:27was something
00:20:28that no one could touch
00:20:29out there
00:20:29and they
00:20:30they were proud of that
00:20:31you know that style
00:20:32that they could bring
00:20:33to the ring
00:20:33and I was looking forward
00:20:35to it because
00:20:35they were amazing
00:20:37out there
00:20:37and their work
00:20:38was untouchable
00:20:39has professional wrestling
00:20:55has world class
00:20:58or anybody
00:20:59ever seen
00:21:00this kind of feud
00:21:02I was a huge fan
00:21:04of the
00:21:04Abdullah the Butcher
00:21:05Bruiser Brody rivalry
00:21:07it was a type of thing
00:21:08that you would show
00:21:09your cynical friends
00:21:10and they go
00:21:11ah that wrestling
00:21:12oh whatever
00:21:13and then you go
00:21:13yeah
00:21:14take a look at this
00:21:15this is not a pretty event
00:21:17this is not one of
00:21:19scientific or wrestling
00:21:21academia
00:21:22but on the disclaimers
00:21:24for the children
00:21:25Brody and
00:21:26Abdullah matches
00:21:28would be like
00:21:29street fights
00:21:30that were
00:21:31somehow enjoyable
00:21:32and it looks like
00:21:33the whole arena
00:21:35has been hit by a tornado
00:21:36as they continue
00:21:37to battle
00:21:38and smash
00:21:39and pummel each other
00:21:40you know you're not
00:21:41supposed to enjoy it
00:21:42but you somehow do
00:21:42the lives of these men
00:21:44endangered
00:21:45nobody else
00:21:47was going to do
00:21:47the things
00:21:48that these guys did
00:21:49and the realism
00:21:50these guys brought
00:21:51to their art form
00:21:52was
00:21:53it was
00:21:54it was impressive
00:21:55and now Bruiser
00:21:57that you will go after
00:21:58this war has been
00:22:00going on a long time
00:22:01as long as the guys
00:22:03had that look
00:22:03in their eyes
00:22:04as long as they had it
00:22:05you know in their
00:22:06it comes from the heart
00:22:07it's
00:22:07the eyes are not
00:22:08something you can fake
00:22:09it really is not
00:22:11something you can fake
00:22:11and as long as they
00:22:13had that
00:22:13in their heart
00:22:14and could express it
00:22:15in their eyes
00:22:17they were going to be
00:22:18money anywhere they went
00:22:19you make it a point
00:22:20to get Abdullah's name
00:22:22on a contract
00:22:23and I promise you
00:22:25you got Bruiser Brody
00:22:27any time you want it
00:22:29it was a legendary feud
00:22:30all over the world
00:22:31and the center of the feud
00:22:33this might be strange
00:22:34for people to understand
00:22:35center of the feud
00:22:37was Japan
00:22:38even if they were not
00:22:40actually feuding in Japan
00:22:41so these two men
00:22:43with this great feud
00:22:44would have to look
00:22:45as strong as possible
00:22:47in front of the
00:22:47Japanese photographers
00:22:48who were at
00:22:49almost every one
00:22:50of their matches
00:22:51these two have had
00:22:52some classic
00:22:53confrontations
00:22:54over the last
00:22:5513 months
00:22:56I patterned a lot
00:22:57of what I did
00:22:58after Bruiser Brody
00:22:59he was brutality
00:23:01and madness
00:23:02personified
00:23:03think of me
00:23:05with more athleticism
00:23:07and a meaner streak
00:23:09so if people liked
00:23:10what I did
00:23:11they would have loved
00:23:12what he did
00:23:13he was that good
00:23:14this thing that happened
00:23:15between Abdullah the Butcher
00:23:16and Bruiser Brody
00:23:18is the thing that's been
00:23:19brought on by
00:23:20of course Gary Hart
00:23:21Gary added a controlling agent
00:23:23he needed somebody
00:23:25to do the talking
00:23:26because he didn't talk
00:23:27we're gonna destroy you tonight
00:23:29it's going to be
00:23:30Abdullah the Butcher
00:23:31inside a steel cage
00:23:33with Bruiser Brody
00:23:35Gary Hart continues
00:23:36continues to blow rabbits
00:23:38out of the hat
00:23:38when it comes time
00:23:39to finding the talented
00:23:41but unusual individuals
00:23:43if you were to ask anybody
00:23:44who is the craziest person
00:23:46in wrestling
00:23:46maybe Brody was
00:23:48two or three or four
00:23:49but everyone would go
00:23:50that guy
00:23:51Abdullah the Butcher
00:23:52Abdullah the Butcher
00:23:54has one of the nastiest
00:23:55reputations
00:23:56ever pinned on
00:23:57a professional wrestler
00:23:58since the beginning
00:23:59of the sport
00:24:00he'd be going
00:24:01with the classic fork
00:24:02to the forehead
00:24:03and he'd be willing
00:24:04to turn it on
00:24:06he's got that object again
00:24:08nobody was going
00:24:11to inspire
00:24:12the type of fear
00:24:14that Abdullah did
00:24:15almost instantly
00:24:17the dreaded
00:24:17Abdullah the Butcher
00:24:18who's barred
00:24:19in many parts of the world
00:24:21I loved the match
00:24:22to the point where
00:24:23when I was a freshman
00:24:24in college
00:24:24I put a picture
00:24:25of Abdullah the Butcher
00:24:27on my wall
00:24:27and told people
00:24:29he was my father
00:24:30I had a whole backstory
00:24:32about an adoption
00:24:33and I repeated
00:24:34that lie so often
00:24:36that everyone
00:24:37in Fitzgerald Hall
00:24:38would say
00:24:38did you know
00:24:39that Mick Foley's father
00:24:40is this wrestling guy
00:24:41who was not known
00:24:42in the northeast
00:24:42at that time
00:24:43Abdullah the Butcher
00:24:44the madman
00:24:45out of the Sudan
00:24:46who has destroyed
00:24:47everybody
00:24:48and everything
00:24:49in front of him
00:24:50he had the ability
00:24:51to scare people
00:24:52around the globe
00:24:53and yet he was
00:24:54a man so classy
00:24:56he once held in a fart
00:24:58for 400 miles
00:24:59so as not to offend
00:25:00my wife
00:25:00I'm sure somewhere
00:25:08if you looked hard enough
00:25:10you would find
00:25:10some match
00:25:11between the two
00:25:12where one man
00:25:14didn't bleed
00:25:15it's highly unlikely
00:25:17you'd find a match
00:25:17where both men
00:25:18didn't bleed
00:25:19that was kind of
00:25:20a calling card
00:25:21for that feud
00:25:22Abdullah was proud
00:25:25of the fact
00:25:26that he could go
00:25:26to the poker table
00:25:27and keep his chips
00:25:28in the grooves
00:25:30in his head
00:25:30and Brody
00:25:32wasn't very far behind
00:25:33this is gonna be
00:25:35a wild match
00:25:36there was a place
00:25:37in world class
00:25:38at the sport tournament
00:25:39called the Eagle's Nest
00:25:40where wrestlers
00:25:42could go
00:25:42before or after
00:25:43the matches
00:25:43and watch
00:25:44what else was taking place
00:25:46in the ring
00:25:47and the nest
00:25:48was never empty
00:25:49when Abdullah
00:25:50and Brody
00:25:51did their thing
00:25:51they're over there
00:25:52next to one of our cameras
00:25:54up on a platform
00:25:55I hope they don't
00:25:56knock it down
00:25:57probably the safest
00:25:59place to be
00:26:00because you really
00:26:01didn't
00:26:01you didn't know
00:26:02you didn't know
00:26:03what was going
00:26:04to happen
00:26:05we're not gonna
00:26:06be able to pick up
00:26:07any more of this
00:26:09so we're gonna
00:26:10get out
00:26:10before it gets worse
00:26:12I'm not sure
00:26:14if I so much
00:26:15drew inspiration
00:26:16from Abdullah
00:26:17and Brody
00:26:17as much as I
00:26:18blatantly stole
00:26:20yeah I love
00:26:23I love the matches
00:26:24it's getting dangerous
00:26:25Farah's just going
00:26:26toe to toe
00:26:27and bringing realism
00:26:29and barbarity
00:26:31everywhere they went
00:26:33a sense of
00:26:34uncontrolled
00:26:35yet controlled mayhem
00:26:36it's
00:26:37one of the best
00:26:38blood feuds
00:26:39of all time
00:26:40Hulk Hogan
00:26:57the epitome
00:26:59of good guy
00:27:00all the speeches
00:27:02he gave
00:27:03eat your vitamins
00:27:04say your prayers
00:27:05brother
00:27:05the Hulk
00:27:07is the personification
00:27:08of all the
00:27:08traditional
00:27:09American virtues
00:27:11like honesty
00:27:12hard work
00:27:13and loyalty
00:27:14to his millions
00:27:15of fans
00:27:15he was it
00:27:17man
00:27:17you loved Hulk Hogan
00:27:19if you didn't love
00:27:19Hulk Hogan
00:27:20something was wrong
00:27:21with you
00:27:21and then there was
00:27:23Roddy Piper
00:27:23what an idiot
00:27:26I love Roddy Piper
00:27:29but he was the
00:27:31absolute total
00:27:32opposite of Hulk Hogan
00:27:34you were just
00:27:34waiting
00:27:35for these two
00:27:36individuals
00:27:37to eventually
00:27:38butt heads
00:27:38it was a true
00:27:39good versus evil
00:27:41and everybody
00:27:42was in Hulk's corner
00:27:43the future
00:27:44of professional
00:27:45wrestling
00:27:45is me
00:27:46the future
00:27:47of rock and roll
00:27:48is down the toilet
00:27:49so when WWE
00:27:53decides to
00:27:54ring in
00:27:54and use
00:27:55celebrities
00:27:56these celebrities
00:27:57were extremely
00:27:58well known

00:28:00outside of wrestling

00:28:09please
00:28:10even though
00:28:11it was me
00:28:12that set this up
00:28:13and it was me
00:28:15that started it
00:28:15I want to present you
00:28:17with this
00:28:17look at Roddy Piper
00:28:21who's just gone
00:28:22that ended up being
00:28:24a big part of the
00:28:26the Hogan
00:28:27Piper feud
00:28:28Cindy Lauper
00:28:29is down
00:28:30David Wolf
00:28:31is down
00:28:32Hulkster came in
00:28:33and they immediately
00:28:34left the ringer
00:28:35who knows
00:28:36what might have
00:28:37happened here
00:28:38when Roddy
00:28:38Roddy Piper
00:28:39took it upon himself
00:28:40to ruin the whole
00:28:41beautiful thing
00:28:42put the boost
00:28:43to Cindy Lauper
00:28:43crippled Dave Wolf
00:28:45scared
00:28:45Dick Clark
00:28:46to death
00:28:47he'll never be the same
00:28:48the war to settle
00:28:51the score
00:28:52the hottest ticket
00:28:53in town
00:28:5323,000 strong
00:28:56not a one of them
00:28:57in their seats
00:28:58look at these two men
00:29:00go in and tooth and nail
00:29:01Hogan wins by DQ
00:29:03and then here comes
00:29:04Mr. T
00:29:05and Cindy Lauper
00:29:06wait a minute
00:29:07hold on
00:29:08Mr. T over the railing
00:29:10oh no
00:29:11oh
00:29:11that's what made Hogan
00:29:15an immediate household name
00:29:17it was great to see
00:29:19Mr. T come in here
00:29:20and help the Hulk
00:29:21I mean it was incredible
00:29:22Hulk is gonna put you down man
00:29:25he's gonna put you down
00:29:26so low
00:29:27you're gonna have to look up
00:29:28to see his skirt
00:29:29bring the little black man
00:29:30bring him into the ring
00:29:31bring the big blonde man
00:29:32and come on
00:29:33but I'll take him by myself
00:29:34this is the first Wrestlemania
00:29:36you dead meat
00:29:37you dead meat
00:29:38I pity you fool
00:29:39big scars to be settled here
00:29:41as Wrestlemania makes history
00:29:43I hate all of you
00:29:46and the best part about it is
00:29:49I get to pay you all back
00:29:51in one single light
00:29:52I don't even have to meet you
00:29:54one on one
00:29:54it must have been just magical
00:29:57to be there
00:29:57people jumping and crying
00:29:59and everybody in the world
00:30:01was talking about it
00:30:02I have never seen anything like this
00:30:05in my entire life
00:30:06it needed to be that big
00:30:09because it's what made Wrestlemania
00:30:11what it is today
00:30:12that was like
00:30:19the first
00:30:20magical Wrestlemania
00:30:22moment
00:30:22and I think a lot of
00:30:24the success that we've had
00:30:26was generated
00:30:27from that one night
00:30:28in Madison Square Garden
00:30:29what excitement and action
00:30:35and what extraordinary athletes
00:30:37that's what I want to replicate
00:30:39you know
00:30:40I want to draw that emotion
00:30:42I want to
00:30:42I want to wrestle on that
00:30:44grandest stage too
00:30:45you know
00:30:45and have people talking about me
00:30:4720, 30 years from now
00:30:49unbelievable
00:30:50play the whole thing
00:30:51we love it
00:30:52honestly I believe
00:30:53the Hogan-Piper rivalry
00:30:55is what created
00:30:57Hulkamania
00:30:58it's what started Hogan
00:31:00so
00:31:00he can thank Roddy
00:31:01now Piper's specialty
00:31:12was spewing hot air
00:31:14on the microphone
00:31:15the periodic table
00:31:16calls that helium
00:31:17so while that helps
00:31:19to identify Piper
00:31:20I would say that Hogan
00:31:21was undoubtedly
00:31:22the equivalent
00:31:23to Francium
00:31:24which is the earth's
00:31:26rarest element
00:31:26because I mean
00:31:27let's face it here
00:31:28WWE had never seen
00:31:30a star of his magnitude
00:31:31up until that point
00:31:32Hogan and Piper
00:31:34were two stars
00:31:35on the opposite ends
00:31:36of the spectrum
00:31:36and 20 years after
00:31:38their famed rivalry
00:31:39you could see
00:31:40the evolution of WWE
00:31:41when a similar rivalry began
00:31:43now we had John Cena
00:31:45in essence here
00:31:46playing the part
00:31:46of Hulk Hogan
00:31:47and CM Punk
00:31:48doing his best
00:31:49Rowdy Roddy Piper
00:31:50imitation
00:31:51now John Cena
00:31:52been the face of WWE
00:31:53for 10 years strong
00:31:55on his slogan
00:31:56of hustle
00:31:57loyalty
00:31:57and respect
00:31:58but
00:31:59in this day and age
00:32:00Cena's message
00:32:01just doesn't resonate
00:32:02with everyone
00:32:03and it was seen
00:32:04as polarizing figure
00:32:05that was just
00:32:06the perfect recipe
00:32:07for the disrespected
00:32:09CM Punk
00:32:10now Punk
00:32:11he could be equated
00:32:12to polonium
00:32:13which is considered
00:32:15by many
00:32:15to be the most
00:32:16radioactive
00:32:16of all of the elements
00:32:18Punk has been called
00:32:19the voice of the voiceless
00:32:21and dubbing himself
00:32:22the best in the world
00:32:24left no doubt
00:32:25where he thought
00:32:26he should be positioned
00:32:27within the company
00:32:27but John Cena
00:32:29would not lie down
00:32:29except Punk's lofty claim
00:32:31you had two totally
00:32:33different substances
00:32:34made up of unique compositions
00:32:35vying for that gold
00:32:37but that's about
00:32:38as good as it gets
00:32:39I was hanging
00:32:52off of your gangster car
00:32:54Wrestlemania 22
00:32:56as it rolled down
00:32:57in Chicago, Illinois
00:32:58and I stood there
00:32:59holding a phony
00:33:00Tommy gun
00:33:01and I said to myself
00:33:02someday
00:33:03I was gonna be
00:33:04standing in the ring
00:33:05watching you
00:33:07go down
00:33:08to CM Punk
00:33:09John Cena
00:33:13is front and center
00:33:14for WWE
00:33:15John Cena
00:33:15is the poster boy
00:33:16for Vince McMahon's
00:33:17vision
00:33:18of what WWE
00:33:19is supposed to be
00:33:20I do not
00:33:22back down
00:33:22from any challenge
00:33:24I fear nothing
00:33:25and regret less
00:33:26He is
00:33:28WWE
00:33:2924-7
00:33:31365
00:33:31I stand before you
00:33:34a champion
00:33:35because I never
00:33:35have given up
00:33:36There is no Luke Skywalker
00:33:44without Darth Vader
00:33:45There is no Batman
00:33:48without the Joker
00:33:49and there is no
00:33:50John Cena
00:33:51without CM Punk
00:33:54I have
00:33:59a lot of things
00:34:00I want to get
00:34:01off my chest
00:34:02It never
00:34:03would have happened
00:34:04if CM Punk
00:34:05didn't break
00:34:06every taboo
00:34:07in the book
00:34:08I don't hate you
00:34:11John
00:34:12I hate
00:34:13this idea
00:34:14that you're
00:34:15the best
00:34:16There's one thing
00:34:18you're better at
00:34:19than I am
00:34:20and that's
00:34:21kissing
00:34:22Vince McMahon's ass
00:34:23That pipe bomb
00:34:24was the career
00:34:25defining moment
00:34:26for CM Punk
00:34:27It's the moment
00:34:27that he broke
00:34:28through the glass ceiling
00:34:29That's right
00:34:30I'm a Paul Heyman guy
00:34:31The handcuffs
00:34:33were off
00:34:33It was the moment
00:34:35that everyone
00:34:36knew
00:34:37this guy is different
00:34:39He's not just
00:34:40one of the pack
00:34:41I'm leaving
00:34:43with the WWE
00:34:44championship
00:34:45on July 17th
00:34:47It's a very
00:34:49compelling situation
00:34:50because these are
00:34:51truly two
00:34:53top stars
00:34:54This is the
00:34:55Austin Rock
00:34:56of this generation
00:34:58They both have
00:34:59the ambition
00:34:59and the drive
00:35:00and the desire
00:35:01to be the absolute
00:35:03best at what they do
00:35:04You had a very
00:35:08unique circumstance
00:35:09walking into
00:35:10Money in the Bank
00:35:10in Chicago
00:35:11You had
00:35:12a villain
00:35:13who was in his hometown
00:35:15loved
00:35:17beyond description
00:35:19You had a guy
00:35:24that was going
00:35:25to leave
00:35:26WWE at midnight
00:35:28CM Punk
00:35:29is leaving
00:35:30this company
00:35:31and he may be
00:35:32doing it
00:35:33with the WWE title
00:35:35GTS connecting
00:35:38GTS connecting
00:35:39Oh my God
00:35:41CM Punk is going to
00:35:43leave Chicago
00:35:44with the WWE
00:35:45championship
00:35:46Admit
00:35:58that I am the best
00:36:00in the world
00:36:01I am not here
00:36:02to stroke your ego
00:36:04You got no respect
00:36:06for that
00:36:06and no respect
00:36:07for you
00:36:08You think because
00:36:09you have this
00:36:09you are justified
00:36:11respect
00:36:12no the reason
00:36:13you have that
00:36:14and have kept it
00:36:14is by any means
00:36:16necessary
00:36:16and that does not
00:36:17define a champion
00:36:18in my eyes
00:36:19You are an ignorant
00:36:20son of a bitch
00:36:21and you need
00:36:22a little bit
00:36:24of respect
00:36:25The champ
00:36:31is here
00:36:33For the first time
00:36:36in WWE history
00:36:38there are two
00:36:39WWE champions
00:36:41so John Cena
00:36:50wasn't the real champion
00:36:51and yet
00:36:52he couldn't back down
00:36:54had to hold
00:36:55that title up high
00:36:56I think it's a testament
00:36:57to the man
00:36:58that John Cena is
00:36:59that he was willing
00:37:00to stand there
00:37:01with his head
00:37:03held high
00:37:03and the title
00:37:04held high
00:37:05You like the Red Sox
00:37:11no longer the underdog
00:37:13You're a dynasty
00:37:14You are what you hate
00:37:16You have become
00:37:18the New York Yankees
00:37:21CM Punk can get underneath
00:37:25anybody's skin
00:37:26because CM Punk
00:37:27speaks the truth
00:37:28CM Punk will confront you
00:37:29with the truth
00:37:30whether you want to hear it
00:37:31or not
00:37:31and sometimes
00:37:32the truth
00:37:33to a man
00:37:34isn't pretty
00:37:35Am I smug?
00:37:37Yeah
00:37:38You know what?
00:37:39Absolutely
00:37:39I don't wear a white hat
00:37:40I'm kind of a jerk
00:37:41I'm here to stay
00:37:43and I'm here to do things
00:37:44my way
00:37:44Great psychological tactic
00:37:47by CM Punk
00:37:48Jeez
00:37:50CM Punk
00:37:51were Yankee pinstripes
00:37:52in Boston?
00:37:57Little silvership
00:37:58Michael
00:37:58I am the best
00:38:01wrestler
00:38:03in the world
00:38:04CM Punk's motto
00:38:06is to survive today
00:38:07to fight tomorrow
00:38:08and John Cena
00:38:09is willing to go down
00:38:10in a blaze of glory
00:38:11and CM Punk
00:38:13is the survivor
00:38:13that will end up
00:38:15writing their history
00:38:17Brock Lesnar is a
00:38:37bona fide monster
00:38:38That's a dangerous
00:38:41human being
00:38:41ladies and gentlemen
00:38:42Brock had such a
00:38:45incredible look
00:38:47like a
00:38:48Kodiak bear
00:38:49I don't know what to tell you
00:38:49but he just looked
00:38:50so impressive
00:38:51Brock Lesnar is just
00:38:53straight up
00:38:54animal
00:38:55I thought he was
00:38:56like a refrigerator
00:38:57with a flat top
00:38:58I mean he
00:38:58he just looked
00:39:00so chiseled
00:39:01and the strength of this
00:39:03and the strength of this
00:39:03Brock Lesnar
00:39:04good god almighty
00:39:06I was very blown away
00:39:09by what a presence
00:39:10he's had
00:39:10I've always been
00:39:12impressed with him
00:39:12I thought he's made
00:39:13the transition
00:39:14I thought that everything
00:39:15he did in wrestling
00:39:15was really good
00:39:17who will be able to stop
00:39:20the next big thing
00:39:22the thing I got from Brock
00:39:23is that he doesn't want to
00:39:24just give you a so-so match
00:39:26he wants to be
00:39:26he wants to be a great
00:39:27professional wrestler
00:39:28nobody can beat me
00:39:32he is the Olympic gold medalist
00:39:37Kurt Angle
00:39:38the franchise of Smackdown
00:39:40as I like to call him
00:39:41I was always a fan of his
00:39:43from the start
00:39:43for the simple reason
00:39:45that he
00:39:45because it's not
00:39:46it's not easy for an amateur wrestler
00:39:47to go into pro wrestling
00:39:48it's just a tough transformation
00:39:50where you've got to
00:39:51kind of have a different thinking
00:39:53no doubt Kurt Angle's the elite
00:39:55an amazing athletic performance
00:39:57this is wrestling
00:39:58ladies and gentlemen
00:39:59right here
00:40:00with Kurt and Brock
00:40:02they both came in
00:40:03with good attitudes
00:40:04and they both
00:40:05looked the part
00:40:06and they worked the part
00:40:08if you know that
00:40:08the backgrounds of the two
00:40:10that somehow
00:40:10that was going to unfold
00:40:11in the drama
00:40:12that they were going to put forth
00:40:13it's you and me Kurt
00:40:15right here
00:40:17right now
00:40:18you want to give these people
00:40:21the greatest match
00:40:22in WWE history
00:40:23you want to give these people
00:40:25Kurt Angle
00:40:26NCAA champion
00:40:28Olympic gold medalist
00:40:30and the greatest
00:40:31WWE champion ever
00:40:32versus Brock Lesnar
00:40:34this match
00:40:35we have been waiting for
00:40:36for months
00:40:37two of the most decorated
00:40:39athletes
00:40:40in WWE history
00:40:42and that's what it's all about
00:40:43the WWE title
00:40:45amateur wrestling is such a tough job
00:40:46maybe the toughest
00:40:47I think it's the toughest sport
00:40:49of them all
00:40:49bar none
00:40:51and to be in this position
00:40:52and do pro wrestling
00:40:53which is so much different
00:40:54than an amateur wrestling match
00:40:55and to have given it
00:40:57that flavor of amateur wrestling
00:41:01like I said
00:41:02I loved it
00:41:03Brock's wrestling such as a kid
00:41:04it shows Kurt
00:41:05so I mean this is
00:41:06in the red
00:41:06it's instinct
00:41:07for these two athletes
00:41:08two of the greatest
00:41:10amateur wrestlers
00:41:10come out of the United States
00:41:11giving this kind of performance
00:41:14in front of
00:41:14the Wrestlemania crowd
00:41:16it's just
00:41:17you know
00:41:18I had to stand
00:41:19back then
00:41:20and applaud
00:41:21that's what I miss
00:41:22and love about wrestling
00:41:23here's the come on
00:41:26to
00:41:27we have a new champion
00:41:29what I love about
00:41:32matches that they had
00:41:33was that
00:41:34they always
00:41:35made people like me
00:41:37that actually love
00:41:38the technical
00:41:39or the amateur wrestling
00:41:40type of wrestlers
00:41:41that make wrestling
00:41:42even more credible
00:41:44more real
00:41:44they
00:41:46brought that to life
00:41:47and
00:41:48put on a really good
00:41:49demonstration
00:41:50like it was Rick
00:41:51it was like
00:41:52that's how wrestling's
00:41:53supposed to be
00:41:54like Pat O'Connor
00:41:55and Luthes
00:41:55and these guys
00:41:56would
00:41:56tell these
00:41:58amateur
00:41:59pro wrestling
00:42:00type matches
00:42:01and submissions
00:42:02and you're watching
00:42:03Brock Lesnar
00:42:04and Kurt
00:42:05and it's like
00:42:05it's
00:42:07this is a throwback
00:42:08to that
00:42:08and that's
00:42:09I miss that a lot
00:42:11and for me
00:42:12as a fan
00:42:13I miss a lot
00:42:13of that kind of wrestling
00:42:14I know you Brock
00:42:16and you know me
00:42:16and I know you'll go
00:42:18full out
00:42:18to regain this title
00:42:19and I will too
00:42:21tonight
00:42:22it is a 60 minute
00:42:23Ironman match
00:42:24for the WWE Championship
00:42:26Brock Lesnar
00:42:27versus the champion
00:42:28Kurt Angle
00:42:29I thought Kurt
00:42:30really for a guy
00:42:31that was
00:42:32that wouldn't been
00:42:32in the business
00:42:33five six years
00:42:34I think around that time
00:42:35for Brock
00:42:36who may have been
00:42:36in a year or two
00:42:37I think they
00:42:38did everyone proud
00:42:39including themselves
00:42:40and the WWE
00:42:42and everybody
00:42:42I think
00:42:43and the fans
00:42:43got a great story
00:42:44both of them
00:42:45I thought brought
00:42:45a lot of integrity
00:42:46to the wrestling profession
00:42:47what a battle
00:42:51historic battle
00:42:52one hour
00:42:53there's two world class
00:42:55great athletes
00:42:56what a match
00:42:57for the wrestling industry
00:43:01to finally elevate
00:43:02two amateur wrestlers
00:43:03Olympic style wrestlers
00:43:04to this kind of stage
00:43:06and have the interest
00:43:08that they had
00:43:09I think
00:43:10as much as Brock's career
00:43:11has done well
00:43:12in the UFC
00:43:12I think
00:43:14where he really
00:43:15made himself
00:43:15and where he's never
00:43:16been any higher
00:43:17in that time period
00:43:18when he was fighting
00:43:19Kurt
00:43:19it was just
00:43:20he was the
00:43:22top of the heap
00:43:24in wrestling
00:43:25and I wish I could have
00:43:26worked with either
00:43:26one of those guys
00:43:27it is a rivalry
00:43:43that is rich in history
00:43:44that is lush in emotion
00:43:46and it's steered
00:43:47by personal
00:43:48animosity
00:43:49if you think about
00:43:50what caused
00:43:51initially
00:43:52the friction
00:43:53between Randy Orton
00:43:54and Triple H
00:43:55it really wasn't
00:43:57something that happened
00:43:58in 2009
00:43:59as much as it was
00:44:00something that happened
00:44:01in evolution
00:44:02you know
00:44:02Triple H said himself
00:44:03Randy Orton was the coal
00:44:05that was going to be
00:44:06squeezed
00:44:06into the next diamond
00:44:08at the age of 24
00:44:12I became
00:44:14the youngest
00:44:16world champion
00:44:18in WWE history
00:44:21it was the greatest
00:44:24moment
00:44:25in my life
00:44:27but it was short lived
00:44:29because the next night
00:44:31on Raw
00:44:32the man
00:44:32who was my mentor
00:44:35the man that claimed
00:44:36to be my friend
00:44:37turned on me
00:44:39in a fit
00:44:40of jealous rage
00:44:42I think
00:44:43the friction
00:44:44is the simple
00:44:45teacher
00:44:46student
00:44:47philosophy
00:44:48I think that's
00:44:49that's really
00:44:49what it was always about
00:44:50there were other elements
00:44:51that got involved
00:44:52but I think really
00:44:53when you look at it
00:44:54it was the teacher
00:44:55versus the student
00:44:56the student
00:44:57versus the teacher
00:44:57Triple H ruined
00:45:03my life
00:45:04so I made a vow
00:45:06to myself
00:45:07to ruin
00:45:08his
00:45:09Orton has ordained
00:45:12the ultimate sentence
00:45:14on the WWE champion
00:45:16it's Orton's law
00:45:18when I think about
00:45:19what made the rivalry
00:45:21so personal
00:45:22and had
00:45:26such a personal
00:45:28issue behind it
00:45:29I really think
00:45:30about how Randy
00:45:31pretty much
00:45:32picked off
00:45:33Triple H's family
00:45:35I had to take
00:45:37everything away
00:45:38from Triple H
00:45:39that he cared about
00:45:40and systematically
00:45:42destroy it
00:45:43so I chose
00:45:45his family
00:45:46he just punted
00:45:49the chairman
00:45:50of this company
00:45:51unbelievable
00:45:53action
00:45:54from Randy Orton
00:45:55Randy Orton
00:45:57is seeking
00:45:58to destroy
00:45:59the McMahon's
00:45:59the game
00:46:01is seething
00:46:01his body
00:46:03is quivering
00:46:03in anger
00:46:04Orton
00:46:05crossed the line
00:46:06when they can't
00:46:07come back from
00:46:08I don't think
00:46:12in recent memory
00:46:14there's been
00:46:15somebody disliked
00:46:17as much
00:46:18as Randy Orton
00:46:20was disliked
00:46:21during that period
00:46:22specifically
00:46:25I know that
00:46:26as part of the legacy
00:46:28when we would come out
00:46:30our
00:46:30just Randy
00:46:31it was a lot of
00:46:32things getting thrown
00:46:34our way
00:46:34a lot of just
00:46:35absolutely
00:46:36horrible things
00:46:37being yelled
00:46:38in the ring
00:46:39I think
00:46:39if at any point
00:46:41Randy was
00:46:41hated
00:46:43it was that point
00:46:45look at Randy Orton
00:46:47you look in those
00:46:47cold eyes
00:46:48you see evil intent
00:46:51you see almost
00:46:52malice
00:46:52at times
00:46:54I think what
00:46:55makes Randy Orton
00:46:56beam off your
00:46:58television set
00:46:58kind of as a jerk
00:47:00is the fact that
00:47:01he's kind of a jerk
00:47:02Randy Orton truly has
00:47:05an evil soul
00:47:06he certainly has
00:47:07iniquitous eyes
00:47:08I mean if you think
00:47:10about when he kissed
00:47:11Stephanie McMahon
00:47:12and when
00:47:13he punted
00:47:15Shane and Vince
00:47:16there was just
00:47:17a level of just
00:47:18slime
00:47:19to it
00:47:20and it made people
00:47:21despise him
00:47:23that's just evil
00:47:25at Wrestlemania
00:47:30specifically
00:47:31and this rivalry
00:47:32kind of came to
00:47:33a crescendo
00:47:34there is no doubt
00:47:36that Randy Orton
00:47:37has taken
00:47:39extreme
00:47:40personal measures
00:47:42to settle tonight
00:47:43possibly
00:47:44a five year
00:47:45score
00:47:46it was interesting
00:47:47to see there was
00:47:48such a personal
00:47:49issue
00:47:50between these two guys
00:47:52just
00:47:52dislike each other
00:47:54at the utmost
00:47:55this is one of those
00:47:56fights that
00:47:57neither man can lose
00:47:59neither man can
00:48:00afford to lose
00:48:01this match
00:48:01Triple H
00:48:02he had so much
00:48:03to fight for
00:48:04he had his family
00:48:05and he had something
00:48:06that he's made
00:48:07very clear that is
00:48:08so important to him
00:48:09the WWE championship
00:48:11I've often wondered
00:48:12if a man can be
00:48:13so focused on
00:48:14destroying another
00:48:15that he forgets
00:48:17that the richest prize
00:48:18in all WWE
00:48:20is around his waist
00:48:21and it was interesting
00:48:22to see the dichotomy
00:48:23to see
00:48:24gosh
00:48:24this would be
00:48:26a great match
00:48:26but it's even better
00:48:28it's even better
00:48:28because it's a great fight
00:48:30Triple H
00:48:31hoping to channel
00:48:33emotions into victory
00:48:34here in this match
00:48:35the crowd was at
00:48:36an absolute fever
00:48:38pitch
00:48:38to see Triple H
00:48:40get his revenge
00:48:41on Randy Orton
00:48:42my god
00:48:44what a battle
00:48:44you know
00:48:49I think this rivalry
00:48:50is one of the top
00:48:51rivalries of all time
00:48:53because I think
00:48:54there's a genuine
00:48:55discord
00:48:56between Triple H
00:48:57and Randy Orton
00:48:59and I think
00:49:01that makes great television
00:49:02this has been
00:49:04an incredible
00:49:05physical confrontation
00:49:07the physicality
00:49:09involved was that high
00:49:10the rage
00:49:12the emotion
00:49:13the desire
00:49:14Triple H
00:49:15these two just
00:49:17held no punches
00:49:18absolutely
00:49:19Randy Orton said
00:49:20he was going to
00:49:21avenge the moment
00:49:22that defines his life
00:49:23I love this
00:49:25in the game
00:49:26you fight back
00:49:27no matter what
00:49:28and Orton now
00:49:29is reeling
00:49:30this was a fight
00:49:32this was a brawl
00:49:33there was always
00:49:35a mark here
00:49:35there was always
00:49:36a mark here
00:49:36I mean
00:49:36they beat each other
00:49:38up pretty bad
00:49:39can the game
00:49:40ever
00:49:41get Orton
00:49:42to repent
00:49:43the sins
00:49:43that he's committed
00:49:44both men
00:49:47are spent
00:49:47punishing themselves
00:49:49in what has been
00:49:51one of the most
00:49:51brutal rivalries
00:49:53we have ever
00:49:54witnessed
00:49:54what I like
00:49:58most about
00:49:59the rivalry
00:49:59and it's a
00:50:00personal thing
00:50:01was I got to
00:50:02see it from
00:50:03the best seat
00:50:03in the house
00:50:04Nick Bockwinkle
00:50:18when you mention
00:50:19his name
00:50:19the next name
00:50:20you think of
00:50:21the number one
00:50:21challenger
00:50:22in professional
00:50:22wrestling
00:50:23former champion
00:50:24Vern Gagne
00:50:24I will concede
00:50:25that at one time
00:50:27Vern Gagne
00:50:28was truly a great
00:50:29champion
00:50:29I mean Harley Race
00:50:31had rivalries
00:50:32Luthez had rivalries
00:50:34I mean I could
00:50:35go on and on
00:50:35the Vern Gagne
00:50:37Nick Bockwinkle
00:50:38rivalry
00:50:39was the biggest
00:50:41in the AWA
00:50:43these men have been
00:50:44challenging each other
00:50:45for a long time
00:50:46I think it's one of
00:50:47the all time greats
00:50:48Vern Gagne
00:50:50was very much
00:50:51a professional
00:50:52applying
00:50:53head scissors
00:50:54and Kudaschi
00:50:55taking foul
00:50:56whoa
00:50:56look out
00:50:57and in comes
00:50:59Gagne
00:50:59here comes
00:51:01Gagne again
00:51:02he had
00:51:04kind of that
00:51:05amateur flair
00:51:06Vern likes to
00:51:07fake out
00:51:08his opponents
00:51:09go for a leg
00:51:09pickup
00:51:10in amateur style
00:51:11too I might add
00:51:12comes over
00:51:13with a toehold
00:51:13he could make
00:51:14great comebacks
00:51:15on opponents
00:51:17I can't believe it
00:51:18Nick Bockwinkle
00:51:33on the other hand
00:51:34had little magic
00:51:35Nick Bockwinkle
00:51:42was very fashy
00:51:44with go-behinds
00:51:45the wily experienced
00:51:47ring veteran
00:51:47Nick Bockwinkle
00:51:48you know a lot of
00:51:51suplexes
00:51:52when suplexes
00:51:53were not in vogue
00:51:55brother he knows
00:51:56so many ways
00:51:57to beat
00:51:57did a lot of things
00:52:00that not too many
00:52:02people in the business
00:52:02did back then
00:52:03well I've said
00:52:08this all along
00:52:09about Vern
00:52:10very rough
00:52:11on the microphone
00:52:11you know the feelings
00:52:13between he and I
00:52:13Marty I think
00:52:14and I don't know
00:52:16whether he ran down
00:52:17because of fright
00:52:18or what it was
00:52:19he got his point
00:52:19across but did it
00:52:20in kind of a
00:52:21naive way
00:52:22where he'd fumble
00:52:24stumble
00:52:25and eventually
00:52:26get to the meat
00:52:27of the matter
00:52:27one of us had to go
00:52:28and it was he
00:52:29Bockwinkle
00:52:31on the other hand
00:52:32was very articulate
00:52:33and he was
00:52:33predominantly
00:52:35above my great
00:52:36talent
00:52:36my skill
00:52:37my intestinal
00:52:38fortitude
00:52:39my guts
00:52:40my cunning
00:52:40is my intelligence
00:52:43he would use
00:52:44I'd say a varied
00:52:47vocabulary
00:52:47people didn't like
00:52:49that
00:52:49they took that
00:52:50as being arrogant
00:52:51so you had
00:52:53Vern Gagne
00:52:55on one hand
00:52:56that could
00:52:57kind of stumble
00:52:57through everything
00:52:58come out
00:52:59smelling like a rose
00:53:00and Bockwinkle
00:53:01the most articulate
00:53:03guy on the block
00:53:04people hated him
00:53:05one on one
00:53:07Vern Gagne
00:53:09chased Nick Bockwinkle
00:53:10for 20 years
00:53:11and made all kinds
00:53:12of money
00:53:13made huge money
00:53:15the resilient champion
00:53:16never say die
00:53:18they went from
00:53:19you know
00:53:20small spot shows
00:53:21up to
00:53:22major appearances
00:53:24at the
00:53:24mile high arena
00:53:25in Denver
00:53:26Milwaukee
00:53:28down at the
00:53:29Mecca
00:53:29finally at the
00:53:30Bradley Center
00:53:30and then
00:53:31Chicago
00:53:32outdoors
00:53:32at Comiskey
00:53:33it is an amazing
00:53:34story
00:53:35the fact that
00:53:35only two champions
00:53:37in one territory
00:53:38he has seen it all
00:53:40he is the heavyweight
00:53:42champion of the world
00:53:43the final match
00:53:44for Vern Gagne
00:53:45as the world's
00:53:46heavyweight champ
00:53:47will be against
00:53:47former champ
00:53:48Nick Bockwinkle
00:53:49long time adversary
00:53:51I am the greatest
00:53:51champion they've ever had
00:53:53and I don't even
00:53:53brag about that point
00:53:55it is strictly
00:53:55an unadulterated fact
00:53:57you know
00:53:58Vern Gagne
00:53:58did not trust
00:53:59too many people
00:54:00he did trust
00:54:01Nick Bockwinkle
00:54:02he trusted him
00:54:04a lot
00:54:04Nick was enough
00:54:06of a purist
00:54:07in terms of
00:54:08wrestling ability
00:54:09that he had the
00:54:11respect
00:54:11of Vern Gagne
00:54:13if you were
00:54:15a Jesse Ventura
00:54:16could talk
00:54:18entertain
00:54:19but you couldn't
00:54:20wrestle
00:54:21he didn't have
00:54:22Vern Gagne's
00:54:22respect
00:54:23he respected
00:54:25legitimate
00:54:26workers
00:54:27Vern's territory
00:54:29guys got there
00:54:32that he trusted
00:54:33it was a big
00:54:34thing to him
00:54:35kind of a funny story
00:54:38because Vern Gagne
00:54:39it was his territory
00:54:42he was the sole owner
00:54:44but I recall
00:54:45Comiskey Park
00:54:46I'm thinking
00:54:47it might have been
00:54:4876, 78
00:54:49in there
00:54:50right about the time
00:54:51Shea Stadium was running
00:54:52I recall vividly
00:54:53that Nick Bockwinkle
00:54:55was the champion
00:54:56and Vern had said to us
00:54:57back in the locker room
00:54:58if there's a big house
00:55:00tonight
00:55:01I want to take the belt
00:55:03back one more time
00:55:04so everybody went out
00:55:06to the ring
00:55:06the house was
00:55:08probably a half
00:55:09might have been
00:55:1020,000 people there
00:55:11at most
00:55:12good house
00:55:13but outdoors
00:55:14didn't make it
00:55:16anyway
00:55:18Bobby Heenan
00:55:18did not know the finish
00:55:19to the match
00:55:20and
00:55:22Nick Bockwinkle
00:55:25I don't think
00:55:25knew the finish
00:55:26until halfway through
00:55:28when he got the office
00:55:30from Vern
00:55:31and Vern ended up
00:55:32being the champion
00:55:34that night
00:55:35in Comiskey Park
00:55:36everybody was on the outside
00:55:40looking in
00:55:40nobody had an inside clue
00:55:42until he made that
00:55:43instantaneous decision
00:55:44in the ring
00:55:45one more bow for glory
00:55:47was I a big fan
00:55:50of the rivalry
00:55:50of course I was
00:55:51the people
00:55:52that showed up
00:55:53at these matches
00:55:54watched on television
00:55:55could tell the difference
00:55:57between the genuine
00:55:59good guy
00:56:00Vern Gagne
00:56:01and
00:56:02the bad ass
00:56:03Nick Bockwinkle
00:56:05but
00:56:05both good entertainers
00:56:07good talent
00:56:07and that chemistry
00:56:09who was there
00:56:10they were good
00:56:11and for so many years
00:56:14that's the really
00:56:15fascinating thing
00:56:16about that rivalry
00:56:17in 1996
00:56:32when Mankind
00:56:33arrived
00:56:34I saw him almost
00:56:35as like a creature
00:56:36going against another
00:56:37otherworldly type
00:56:39almost creature
00:56:40in The Undertaker
00:56:41no one has ever
00:56:43challenged The Undertaker
00:56:44like Mankind has
00:56:46Mankind came to the
00:56:47WWE
00:56:47with one focus
00:56:49with one thing
00:56:50in his mind
00:56:50and that was
00:56:51to accost
00:56:51to assault
00:56:52and to eliminate
00:56:53The Undertaker
00:56:54I was always a fan
00:56:57of the crazy monster
00:56:58movies and I would
00:56:59love to see
00:56:59Freddy go against
00:57:00Jason
00:57:01and to me
00:57:01this was almost
00:57:02like that
00:57:03you know
00:57:03this man
00:57:04Mankind
00:57:04obviously with a
00:57:05high threshold
00:57:06and his wide ear
00:57:08is missing
00:57:09his arms are
00:57:10scarred
00:57:11he walks with a
00:57:12limp
00:57:12this man is a
00:57:13very strange
00:57:15parade in the middle
00:57:16here's this freak
00:57:18of nature that would
00:57:19just rip his own
00:57:20hair out
00:57:21and is so hideous
00:57:22looking
00:57:22six feet
00:57:23ten and a half
00:57:23inches tall
00:57:24328 pounds
00:57:26that is just
00:57:27absolutely phenomenal
00:57:28so I love the
00:57:30chemistry if you
00:57:31would that existed
00:57:32between The Undertaker
00:57:33and Mankind
00:57:34from the very
00:57:35beginning to me
00:57:35it was just
00:57:36it was like
00:57:37nothing else
00:57:37that I'd ever seen
00:57:38The Undertaker
00:57:39has never been
00:57:40challenged
00:57:40quite like this
00:57:41before
00:57:42I think the type
00:57:43of matches
00:57:44that The Undertaker
00:57:45and Mankind
00:57:46wound up facing
00:57:47each other in
00:57:47they were so
00:57:48out of the ordinary
00:57:49but they were so
00:57:50fitting for these
00:57:51two individuals
00:57:52to be in
00:57:53Who will survive
00:57:54this matchup
00:57:55between these two
00:57:56men
00:57:56boiler room brawl
00:57:57nothing like that
00:57:58had ever been done
00:57:58before
00:57:59Mankind doesn't mind
00:58:01hurting himself
00:58:01if it means
00:58:02taking The Undertaker
00:58:03out
00:58:04he buried a live
00:58:05match
00:58:06what in the world
00:58:07I've never seen
00:58:08that in my life
00:58:08that was one of the
00:58:11things that was so
00:58:11unique about this
00:58:12rivalry is the fact
00:58:13that you really
00:58:14could not see
00:58:15around the corner
00:58:16you never knew
00:58:17what was lurking
00:58:18and what was coming
00:58:19at you next
00:58:20this war continuing
00:58:22and it won't stop
00:58:23until one of these
00:58:24men is literally
00:58:25buried a lot
00:58:27you know when I
00:58:32first heard that
00:58:33they were rekindling
00:58:35the rivalry with
00:58:36this Hell in a Cell
00:58:37match I honestly
00:58:39had my doubts
00:58:39I like anyone else
00:58:41I thought has that
00:58:42run its course
00:58:43honestly I thought
00:58:45we'd seen it all
00:58:46from these two
00:58:47but boy was I wrong
00:58:48what's gonna happen
00:58:49here
00:58:49they're right above us
00:58:53folks and I don't
00:58:54like it a damn bit
00:58:55first of all I
00:58:56couldn't understand
00:58:57how the cell itself
00:58:59would withstand the
00:59:01weight of these two
00:59:01huge guys
00:59:02I'm a little bit
00:59:03scared of heights
00:59:04anyway
00:59:04I couldn't even
00:59:05imagine myself being
00:59:07up there but I had
00:59:08a foreboding feeling
00:59:09that something bad
00:59:10was gonna happen
00:59:11it was like a bad car
00:59:22wreck that you
00:59:23didn't want to see
00:59:24but you couldn't
00:59:25look away from
00:59:26it was like
00:59:28did I just see that
00:59:29my god this is over
00:59:31I cannot believe
00:59:32this is over right
00:59:33here
00:59:33I've gone back
00:59:35and looked at the
00:59:35footage and I just
00:59:36say how did he do
00:59:38it it's just not
00:59:39real nobody's body
00:59:41could endure that
00:59:43kind of abuse
00:59:44you're kidding me
00:59:49the hell is he
00:59:50standing are you
00:59:52kidding me he wants
00:59:54to go back up
00:59:55they wind up back
00:59:56on top of the cell
00:59:57again and
00:59:59my first fear
01:00:00that I thought
01:00:01was gonna happen
01:00:02the first time
01:00:03I saw him up there
01:00:03then did happen
01:00:05the cage gives way
01:00:06the first words
01:00:12out of my mouth
01:00:13were he's dead
01:00:14that's it he's dead
01:00:16it was just the
01:00:20most astounding
01:00:20thing that I have
01:00:22ever seen
01:00:22ever
01:00:23well somebody
01:00:25stop the damn
01:00:26man
01:00:26and the next thing
01:00:28you know
01:00:28there are nails
01:00:30or tacks
01:00:31are all over
01:00:31the ring
01:00:32and he's getting
01:00:33slammed into this
01:00:34by that time
01:00:35the tacks had to
01:00:37feel like a mattress
01:00:38a lot of people
01:00:42a lot of people don't
01:00:43realize that the
01:00:44undertaker was certainly
01:00:45not 100% in this
01:00:47match either
01:00:47there were rumors
01:00:48that he was actually
01:00:49wrestling on a
01:00:50fractured ankle
01:00:51it was just such a
01:00:54draining experience
01:00:56if it was for me and
01:00:58JR to watch and to
01:00:59commentate
01:01:00I know those guys
01:01:01it was like literally
01:01:02like the walking dead
01:01:03I don't even know how
01:01:03they made it back to the
01:01:05locker room
01:01:05if you remember
01:01:06their match was not
01:01:08the main event that
01:01:09night
01:01:09it was not the last
01:01:10match
01:01:11the final match of
01:01:12the evening was
01:01:13Stone Cold Steve
01:01:13Austin against Kane
01:01:15I looked to the back
01:01:17and suddenly here comes
01:01:19mankind again out to
01:01:21get involved in this
01:01:23Kane and Stone Cold
01:01:24Steve Austin match
01:01:25and my first thought was
01:01:26how is he not at the
01:01:28hospital
01:01:28and he comes out
01:01:30and the poor guy gets
01:01:32a stunner from Stone Cold
01:01:33Steve Austin to cap off
01:01:35his night
01:01:35it was without a doubt
01:01:37one of the most
01:01:38unforgettable nights that
01:01:39I've personally ever had
01:01:41being a commentator for
01:01:42the WWE
01:01:43it just says so much
01:01:45about about mankind
01:01:46and about the
01:01:47Undertaker that these
01:01:48two guys
01:01:48went out there and put
01:01:51themselves through
01:01:53the most grueling
01:01:55and undoubtedly painful
01:01:57match that I've ever
01:01:58seen
01:01:58I can't even tell you
01:02:00the amount of respect
01:02:01that all the other
01:02:02superstars in the locker
01:02:04room had for these guys
01:02:05that's why it's still
01:02:07one of the most talked
01:02:08about rivalries that
01:02:10we've ever had here in
01:02:11the WWE because these
01:02:12two mankind and the
01:02:13Undertaker they went
01:02:14way above and beyond
01:02:16the call of duty in
01:02:18these matches
01:02:18mankind and the
01:02:25Undertaker were
01:02:26chemistry at its
01:02:28finest I mean they were
01:02:29the art of resolving
01:02:30mixed compound or
01:02:31aggregate bodies into
01:02:33very unconventional
01:02:34principles
01:02:35mankind was certainly
01:02:36some type of chemical
01:02:38compound and the
01:02:39toughness he demonstrated
01:02:40over the years made
01:02:41him like a blend of
01:02:42titanium and tungsten
01:02:44in my opinion
01:02:45which are two of the
01:02:47hardest and most
01:02:47durable elements both
01:02:49found most abundantly
01:02:50in Australia for
01:02:51whatever that's worth
01:02:52very important stuff
01:02:53here kids
01:02:54Undertaker is the
01:02:55most unique character
01:02:56we have ever seen
01:02:57kind of like my
01:02:58favorite and the
01:02:59world's most abundant
01:03:00element hydrogen
01:03:02which only has one
01:03:03proton and one
01:03:04electron
01:03:05now singularly the
01:03:06two superstars were
01:03:08unusual but together
01:03:09they were more like
01:03:10carbon which binds
01:03:11with more different
01:03:12elements in more
01:03:13different ways
01:03:13now mankind versus
01:03:15Undertaker was a
01:03:16fascinating experiment
01:03:18that was highly
01:03:19successful on a grand
01:03:20scale but underground
01:03:21laboratories can
01:03:22sometimes discover
01:03:23inherent molecular
01:03:25forces that are even
01:03:26more compelling
01:03:27now chemistry in its
01:03:29simplest form is
01:03:30described as a study
01:03:31of matter in the
01:03:32changes it undergoes
01:03:33and when you have an
01:03:34environment that
01:03:35encourages experimentation
01:03:36like ECW did
01:03:38the possibilities were
01:03:40endless
01:03:40now ECW had to be
01:03:42different to compete
01:03:43with the power and
01:03:44money of WWE and WCW
01:03:46so it went to the
01:03:48extreme and the result
01:03:49was possibly ECW's
01:03:51greatest rivalry
01:03:52I'm talking Tommy
01:03:54Dreamer versus Raven
01:03:56now it was by every
01:03:57definition a look into
01:03:58how substances are
01:03:59altered and how
01:04:00specific reactions
01:04:01change them into
01:04:02other substances
01:04:03I had no idea I was
01:04:06going to have to
01:04:06research so much for
01:04:07this job here I thought
01:04:08that I was done with
01:04:09chemistry in my junior
01:04:09year of high school
01:04:10what's going on here
01:04:11regardless I hope that
01:04:13you're all learning
01:04:14something and more
01:04:15importantly enjoying
01:04:16the countdown
01:04:16when Tommy Dreamer
01:04:29started in our
01:04:31industry he was a
01:04:32pretty boy he had a
01:04:33pompadour he had big
01:04:34muscles he had the
01:04:35look he was still
01:04:36fairly pretty named
01:04:38like Tommy Dreamer
01:04:39the girls loved him
01:04:40so Tommy came to ECW
01:04:42and was booed out of
01:04:43the building then he
01:04:45he had his Singapore
01:04:46caney match with the
01:04:47Sandman and from
01:04:48that point on Tommy
01:04:50was a made man if you
01:04:52will Tommy realized
01:04:53that that being the
01:04:55all-american good guy
01:04:57was not going to make
01:04:59him a star in ECW
01:05:00talk about an amazing
01:05:02transformation Tommy
01:05:04Dreamer is hardcore to
01:05:06the phone Tommy was
01:05:10also very identifiable
01:05:11to ECW fans because he
01:05:15didn't win a lot he
01:05:17didn't want to win
01:05:19Tommy wanted to be the
01:05:20martyr Tommy became
01:05:22more popular when he
01:05:24lost because no matter
01:05:25how badly he got beaten
01:05:27up he picked himself
01:05:29back up
01:05:30didn't expect to see me
01:05:32did you
01:05:32wait a minute
01:05:35you're just a breathable
01:05:37piece of garbage
01:05:38you're not all there
01:05:40are you
01:05:40you've been away
01:05:41I can tell
01:05:42Raven is a completely
01:05:44different character
01:05:46and from minute one
01:05:48when he was introduced
01:05:49by Stevie Richards on
01:05:50ECW TV
01:05:51you could tell that
01:05:53there had never been a
01:05:54character like this
01:05:55before
01:05:56Scott Levy invented
01:05:57the Raven character
01:05:58because he knew it
01:06:00would resonate with
01:06:01young fans at the time
01:06:03and it did
01:06:05so Paul Heyman
01:06:11decided that
01:06:12Raven and Tommy
01:06:14Dreamer would make
01:06:15great opponents
01:06:16there's something there
01:06:18between these two
01:06:19now I'm no detective
01:06:20but there's got to be
01:06:21something there
01:06:22so the backstory
01:06:24was that they went
01:06:26to summer camp together
01:06:27and that Tommy was
01:06:29the jock at camp
01:06:30and a character like
01:06:32Raven would be an
01:06:33outcast at summer camp
01:06:34so Raven was jealous
01:06:36of Tommy Dreamer
01:06:38and then to make it
01:06:40even more intense
01:06:41there was introduced
01:06:44the young girl
01:06:46from summer camp
01:06:47people in Philadelphia
01:06:49Tommy Dreamer
01:06:50is not the nice guy
01:06:51that you all think he is
01:06:53there was a certain
01:06:54young lady
01:06:55back in summer camp
01:06:57by the name of
01:06:59Beulah McGillicotty
01:07:01she liked Raven
01:07:03and Tommy Dreamer
01:07:05had shunned
01:07:06she was young
01:07:08and awkward
01:07:09and overweight
01:07:11and of course
01:07:12we bring out this
01:07:13gorgeous woman
01:07:15today as you can see
01:07:17out there
01:07:18no zit face
01:07:21no fat slob
01:07:22she is
01:07:22she is pure
01:07:23penthouse centerfold
01:07:24and so
01:07:26it seems
01:07:27from minute one
01:07:28that she is going
01:07:29to be with Tommy Dreamer
01:07:30now
01:07:31who finally sees
01:07:32how beautiful she is
01:07:33and wants to be with her
01:07:34and of course
01:07:35the scorned woman
01:07:36instead turns on
01:07:37Tommy Dreamer
01:07:38spraying hairspray
01:07:39in his face
01:07:40and we're off
01:07:41we have this
01:07:42very
01:07:42personal
01:07:44physical
01:07:45rivalry
01:07:47from day one
01:07:49which went on
01:07:50for two years
01:07:51Tommy Dreamer
01:07:53who has fought
01:07:54so hard
01:07:55to achieve respect
01:07:57as a hardcore wrestler
01:07:58cannot go on
01:08:00with his career
01:08:01he is obsessed
01:08:02with beating Raven
01:08:03Tommy knew
01:08:05in terms of
01:08:07entertainment
01:08:08and storyline
01:08:09that as long
01:08:10as he kept losing
01:08:11by being robbed
01:08:13the more
01:08:15the fans would see him
01:08:16as a sympathetic
01:08:17hero
01:08:18and be behind him
01:08:20some punk
01:08:21that I've known
01:08:21since I'm 12 years old
01:08:22won't get out
01:08:24of my life
01:08:24I can't get my hand raised
01:08:26no matter how much
01:08:27I beat his ass
01:08:28thanks to the help
01:08:30of his entire entourage
01:08:32Raven stole a victory
01:08:34from Tommy Dreamer
01:08:35that's despicable
01:08:37the one thing
01:08:38that you could never do
01:08:41was beat me Tommy
01:08:43you could never beat me
01:08:46and I always pinned you
01:08:49it allowed this
01:08:50to go on
01:08:50for two years
01:08:51so Tommy never
01:08:52wanted to win
01:08:53the truth of the matter
01:08:55is Tommy finally won
01:08:56because Raven signed
01:08:58with WCW
01:08:59so we had to do
01:09:02Raven's last match
01:09:03we didn't want to do
01:09:04loser leaves ECW
01:09:05because it would have
01:09:05been too obvious
01:09:06so loser leaves ECW
01:09:08would have given away
01:09:09what we were going to do
01:09:11so we just
01:09:12billed it as the last match
01:09:14between Tommy Dreamer
01:09:15and Raven
01:09:15so our fans really didn't know
01:09:17what was going to happen
01:09:18the final battle
01:09:20between Raven
01:09:22and Tommy Dreamer
01:09:24and regardless
01:09:26of who wins this bout
01:09:28based on the longest running
01:09:30feud in professional wrestling
01:09:32this will no doubt be
01:09:33extreme championship
01:09:34wrestling history
01:09:36the truth is
01:09:37is that it was Paul
01:09:39who made the call
01:09:40for Tommy Dreamer to win
01:09:42Tommy didn't want to win
01:09:43even then
01:09:45Dreamer sending a message
01:09:48to Raven
01:09:48tonight is
01:09:50Tommy Dreamer's night
01:09:51but when he did
01:09:53it was a great moment
01:09:54for ECW
01:09:55his dream has come true
01:10:02it's the greatest night
01:10:04of his life
01:10:05Tommy Dreamer
01:10:06has beaten Raven
01:10:08I do think that the rivalry
01:10:13between Tommy Dreamer
01:10:14and Raven
01:10:15exemplified what ECW
01:10:16was all about
01:10:17not so much
01:10:19because of the brutality
01:10:21but the truth is
01:10:22is that
01:10:23one of the things
01:10:24that ECW
01:10:25really contributed
01:10:26to our industry
01:10:27was out of the box
01:10:29and I mean
01:10:30way out of the box
01:10:32storylines
01:10:33that whole backstory
01:10:35while it sounded
01:10:36a little far-fetched
01:10:37at first
01:10:38didn't matter
01:10:39as soon as
01:10:41the two were up
01:10:42and running
01:10:42the classic
01:10:44sympathetic
01:10:46martyred hero
01:10:48versus the
01:10:51tortured
01:10:52twisted
01:10:54villain
01:10:56who really didn't know
01:10:58why he
01:10:59was angry
01:11:00except that
01:11:02he was different
01:11:04it was a complex character
01:11:06and it was very different
01:11:07than
01:11:08good guy
01:11:09versus bad guy
01:11:10for the sake of
01:11:11white hat
01:11:11black hat
01:11:12so in many ways
01:11:14Raven versus
01:11:14Tommy Dreamer
01:11:15exemplified ECW
01:11:17I will give you a show
01:11:33like you have never
01:11:34ever seen before
01:11:36why
01:11:36because I can't
01:11:39for God's sakes
01:11:40Sean was starting
01:11:41to really grow
01:11:43as the beacon
01:11:44of the company
01:11:45the kid came home
01:11:48and he won
01:11:49the title
01:11:49everybody always thought
01:11:53you know what
01:11:53wait till he gets to the ring
01:11:54with the undertaker
01:11:55he's gonna get put in his place then
01:11:57and you'd like to see that winchel
01:11:59that's steel McMahon
01:12:02oh my gosh
01:12:04it led to
01:12:08a historic moment
01:12:10for this company
01:12:11I think everybody
01:12:12was satisfied
01:12:13when we got to
01:12:14Hell in a Cell
01:12:15Hell in a Cell
01:12:16a first
01:12:17it won't be for the weak at heart
01:12:19that's for sure
01:12:20the Hell in a Cell match
01:12:22wasn't for the title
01:12:23yet
01:12:24it was the main event
01:12:25it was dangerous
01:12:27it was really dangerous
01:12:29and everybody in the back
01:12:30was gasping
01:12:31like oh my god
01:12:32I hope they don't fall
01:12:33and sure enough
01:12:33Sean falls off the top
01:12:35through the announce table
01:12:36it's unbelievable
01:12:37this is truly
01:12:40Hell in a Cell
01:12:41for Shawn Michaels
01:12:42the chair shots
01:12:44were so wicked
01:12:44and then when you think
01:12:47it's over
01:12:47and Shawn's had
01:12:48all he could have
01:12:49here comes Kane
01:12:50it was one of the greatest
01:12:51moments for WWE
01:12:52when it was over
01:12:55Shawn had gained
01:12:57the respect of the undertaker
01:12:58and by gaining
01:13:00the respect of the undertaker
01:13:01you then
01:13:02gain the respect
01:13:03of the locker room
01:13:04Shawn Michaels
01:13:07the undertaker
01:13:08one of these men
01:13:09are going to Wrestlemania
01:13:11two of the greatest legends
01:13:13in the history
01:13:14of this business
01:13:15we've still got
01:13:16a hell of a show left
01:13:17the winner of the
01:13:19Royal Rumble
01:13:20was between those two
01:13:22these two legends
01:13:23are face to face
01:13:24I don't know about you
01:13:26I got chills out here
01:13:27Undertaker
01:13:28is going
01:13:29to Wrestlemania
01:13:31I think at the end
01:13:32of that match
01:13:33the subtle
01:13:34acknowledgement
01:13:35of what a competitor
01:13:36you are from the undertaker
01:13:38to Shawn Michaels
01:13:38said a lot
01:13:39the first match
01:13:44at ground zero
01:13:45there wasn't a
01:13:46definitive winner
01:13:47at hell in a cell
01:13:49it was Kane
01:13:50that came out
01:13:51that cost Shawn
01:13:52to win
01:13:52but the undertaker
01:13:53really whooped his ass
01:13:54just inside yourself
01:13:56just inside yourself
01:13:56you know
01:13:57I know I was feeling it
01:13:58the undertaker
01:13:59has never beaten
01:13:59Shawn Michaels
01:14:00and I can believe
01:14:01Shawn Michaels
01:14:02could break
01:14:03the undertaker's streak
01:14:04as a producer
01:14:10I like to term it
01:14:13more a coach
01:14:14and you try to help
01:14:16everybody with their
01:14:17matches
01:14:18and give them
01:14:18perspective
01:14:19about what may work
01:14:20what may not work
01:14:22the build to that match
01:14:24may have been
01:14:25the best build
01:14:25I've ever seen
01:14:26to any match
01:14:26Taker did his fist pump
01:14:28up on the stage
01:14:29thinking Shawn was gone
01:14:30he came out
01:14:31and super kicked him
01:14:32oh sweet chin music
01:14:34what is he doing
01:14:36this man
01:14:37the defiant
01:14:38Shawn Michaels
01:14:39looks to make history
01:14:40at the 25th anniversary
01:14:42of Wrestlemania
01:14:43Shawn the white
01:14:45and Corpus Christi
01:14:46and he did the undertaker
01:14:48and that time
01:14:49the undertaker
01:14:50came up through the ring
01:14:50got a hold of Shawn
01:14:51but Shawn got away
01:14:52the heartbreak kid
01:14:54Mr. Wrestlemania
01:14:57will take you
01:14:59to the fiery depths
01:15:01of hell
01:15:02the undertaker
01:15:07began this 16-0
01:15:08winning streak
01:15:09at Wrestlemania 7
01:15:10Shawn Michaels
01:15:11doesn't appear
01:15:12to be intimidated
01:15:13at all
01:15:14two of the greatest
01:15:15performers
01:15:15in the history
01:15:16of Wrestlemania
01:15:17every time
01:15:18there was a near fall
01:15:19look at the audience's
01:15:21reaction
01:15:22oh they got me
01:15:23oh my god
01:15:29oh my god
01:15:31I thought everything
01:15:32was really coming
01:15:33to the proverbial
01:15:33crashing ending
01:15:35when the undertaker
01:15:36did that leap
01:15:37over the ropes
01:15:37and it looked like
01:15:38he broke his neck
01:15:39oh no
01:15:42Shawn
01:15:43with a heart
01:15:44these two are masters
01:15:46of controlling the crowd
01:15:48puppeteers if you will
01:15:50I put that match up
01:16:01against any match
01:16:02for greatest match
01:16:04ever
01:16:04when they both came back
01:16:09through the curtain
01:16:09it wasn't anything like
01:16:11not bad
01:16:12I mean
01:16:13the undertaker
01:16:14was smiling
01:16:14from ear to ear
01:16:16which you never see
01:16:17it was that night
01:16:24after the first
01:16:25Wrestlemania match
01:16:26where I looked at both of them
01:16:27and I said
01:16:27you know there's a return
01:16:29match here
01:16:29Shawn had been talking
01:16:33about wanting to retire
01:16:34and he seemed pretty
01:16:37serious about it
01:16:37we got the idea
01:16:39it's like
01:16:40well
01:16:40you want to go out
01:16:41on top
01:16:41I mean really
01:16:43on top
01:16:44there's no better way
01:16:45you know something
01:16:46undertaker
01:16:47I can beat you
01:16:49arguably the greatest
01:16:53Wrestlemania career
01:16:54of all time
01:16:55against the greatest
01:16:56streak
01:16:57of all time
01:16:58wow
01:16:59the eyes of the world
01:17:02are on this match
01:17:03tonight
01:17:03no one's ever come
01:17:07as close as
01:17:07Shawn Michaels did
01:17:08last year
01:17:09to defeating
01:17:09the undertaker
01:17:10in Wrestlemania
01:17:11well if Shawn Michaels
01:17:14is going out
01:17:15he's going out
01:17:16as defiant as ever
01:17:17the undertaker
01:17:19is 18 and 0
01:17:20Shawn Michaels
01:17:21career
01:17:22is over
01:17:23and what a match
01:17:24it was
01:17:25a classic
01:17:25this was the end
01:17:29of the Shawn Michaels
01:17:30era
01:17:30and man
01:17:31you know
01:17:32you just
01:17:32all these things
01:17:34flash back
01:17:34through your mind
01:17:35and all these
01:17:37achievements
01:17:37and unbelievable
01:17:38accomplishments
01:17:39and now
01:17:40it's facing you
01:17:42the clock is really
01:17:43ticking
01:17:43and it's over
01:17:45the undertaker
01:18:04myself and Shawn
01:18:05went to the locker room
01:18:06and sat down
01:18:07and enjoyed
01:18:09for about 30 minutes
01:18:11and we talked about
01:18:13various things
01:18:14such as
01:18:14you know
01:18:16how does this feel
01:18:16kid
01:18:17this is it
01:18:18and
01:18:19he was just
01:18:20really relieved
01:18:22at peace
01:18:23and proud
01:18:24one of my
01:18:26greatest
01:18:27moments
01:18:28in this industry
01:18:29was being part
01:18:31of the Shawn Michaels
01:18:32Undertaker matches
01:18:34at Wrestlemania
01:18:34it's so hard to talk about
01:18:58because you know
01:18:59who they are now
01:18:59and I knew
01:19:00who they were then
01:19:01and it's such
01:19:02a drastic change
01:19:03you know
01:19:04the rock is
01:19:05Rocky Maivia
01:19:06the energetic hair
01:19:07sticking straight up
01:19:08floating around
01:19:09and the blue
01:19:10just all over the place
01:19:12yes indeed
01:19:13the rookie sensation
01:19:14Rocky Maivia
01:19:15and of course
01:19:16you know
01:19:17Triple H
01:19:17wearing the riding pants
01:19:19and the
01:19:19all very proper
01:19:20Hunter Hearst
01:19:22Jones and Energy
01:19:22and gentlemen
01:19:23in American blue blood
01:19:24going 97
01:19:27going to the
01:19:28Intercontinental Championship
01:19:29which is
01:19:29still a very
01:19:30prestigious championship
01:19:31anytime you go
01:19:32for something like that
01:19:33you bring your A game
01:19:34see that's what happens
01:19:37when you don't

01:19:38you wanted a revolution
01:19:46you got it
01:19:48Hunter's in charge
01:19:50of you know
01:19:51a pretty powerful group
01:19:52at the time
01:19:53you know
01:19:54and we all had
01:19:55complete and utter
01:19:56faith in him
01:19:57that he was going
01:19:58to take us
01:19:58where we needed to go
01:19:59the rock is not only
01:20:02now the leader
01:20:03of the nation
01:20:04of domination
01:20:04he's the ruler
01:20:06of the nation
01:20:06of domination
01:20:07I think rock
01:20:08was just still
01:20:09playing with some
01:20:10stuff trying to
01:20:11figure out
01:20:11who he was
01:20:13or where he
01:20:14wanted to go
01:20:14and and they
01:20:15looked to him
01:20:16as a leader
01:20:16hey Rocky
01:20:18remember this
01:20:19you mess with us
01:20:21it's not
01:20:21know your role
01:20:23it's shut your
01:20:24hole
01:20:24if you and the rest
01:20:27of your DX
01:20:28jabronis got any
01:20:29testicular fortitude
01:20:31you'll come out here
01:20:32smell what the rock
01:20:33is cooking
01:20:34get it all with the
01:20:35nation
01:20:35this nation DX thing
01:20:37has completely
01:20:38gone out of control
01:20:39and they were coming
01:20:41out all the time
01:20:42and we're the nation
01:20:42and we're gonna do
01:20:44what we're gonna do
01:20:45and so we decided
01:20:46to make fun of them
01:20:47which would become
01:20:50one of the funniest
01:20:51things ever
01:20:52on WWE
01:20:52you know the croc
01:20:57just came
01:20:58from the bathroom
01:20:59and
01:21:01you should have
01:21:03smelled what the rock
01:21:04was cooking
01:21:04it's like walking
01:21:07and shaking a bush
01:21:08with a beehive in it
01:21:09when it comes to the croc
01:21:11and the ladies
01:21:12and the croc hits
01:21:13rock bottom
01:21:15he has no choice
01:21:18but to lay that
01:21:19smack down on himself
01:21:21you hear that
01:21:22the brother smacks
01:21:23himself down
01:21:23wow look at people
01:21:24oh man
01:21:26can you imagine the rock
01:21:27he's broken every piece
01:21:29of furniture
01:21:29in his living room
01:21:30right now
01:21:31it made him mad
01:21:32so we accomplished
01:21:34our mission
01:21:35if you have somebody
01:21:41that can equal you
01:21:42and that you can
01:21:42have a personal
01:21:43rivalry with
01:21:44is awesome
01:21:45because that's when
01:21:47things
01:21:47really happen
01:21:49looks like I'm gonna do
01:21:51a pay-per-view
01:21:51a long time
01:21:52and I don't think
01:21:53I've ever seen
01:21:53any more intense
01:21:54competition
01:21:55from two young guys
01:21:57like we're seeing here
01:21:58it's a competitor
01:21:59in each one of us
01:22:00and the more you have it
01:22:02the better it gets
01:22:03and the better for the people
01:22:04it makes me really
01:22:08want to watch
01:22:08can he find it
01:22:11yes

01:22:16you are a prime
01:22:21human
01:22:21living
01:22:22breathing
01:22:23example
01:22:23of a guy
01:22:24who looks like
01:22:25Tarzan
01:22:26and wrestles like
01:22:27Jane
01:22:28well Jane
01:22:32kicked your ass
01:22:33last week
01:22:34their relationship
01:22:39was fine
01:22:40I mean it wasn't like
01:22:41hey I got backstage
01:22:42scooped it
01:22:42hey they used to fight
01:22:44all the time
01:22:44and walk by each other
01:22:45and one would shoulder
01:22:46one and one would back
01:22:48down first
01:22:48it wasn't ever like that
01:22:49you know their relationship
01:22:50was fine
01:22:51but when it's time
01:22:52to strap them on
01:22:53you've got to come
01:22:54you always want to go
01:22:56one step higher
01:22:57than your last match
01:22:58you always want to make
01:22:58it one step better
01:23:00than your
01:23:00you know
01:23:00one move better
01:23:01than your last match
01:23:02there's room for only
01:23:04one man
01:23:05at the top
01:23:06of the W.S.
01:23:08mountain
01:23:08will it be
01:23:09the people's champion
01:23:11the rock
01:23:12or will it be
01:23:13the game
01:23:14and they just kept up
01:23:16in their game
01:23:16and the most important
01:23:17thing is
01:23:18I think they were trying
01:23:19to up each other
01:23:19it was in-house competition
01:23:21that leads
01:23:22for the best matches
01:23:24ever
01:23:25it is now time
01:23:31for the 60 minute
01:23:33Iron Man match
01:23:35for the World Wrestling
01:23:36Federation Championship
01:23:37you know there's not
01:23:40too many people
01:23:41I know that can go
01:23:42an hour
01:23:43neither
01:23:44Triple H
01:23:45nor The Rock
01:23:46have ever
01:23:47in their WWF careers
01:23:49gone 60 minutes
01:23:51you have to be in
01:23:52the greatest shape
01:23:55of your life
01:23:55I feel
01:23:56you know
01:23:57it's not like
01:23:58you're going
01:23:58you can go 10 minutes
01:24:00full blown
01:24:00or 15 minutes
01:24:01full blown
01:24:01you're going a while
01:24:02and then again
01:24:12it's so
01:24:13it's such a long time
01:24:14that you've got
01:24:15to be creative
01:24:16and have to have
01:24:17some ability
01:24:18to do a lot of things
01:24:19so much animosity
01:24:20and this awesome rivalry
01:24:22between these two young studs
01:24:25look at where they ended up
01:24:35I think in a way
01:24:37they both would have been there
01:24:38but I think they both
01:24:40moved each other
01:24:41I think they brought out
01:24:45something in each one of them
01:24:46that elevated them
01:24:48to the superstars
01:24:49and super great people
01:24:51that they are today
01:24:52and they became
01:24:54two of the biggest superstars
