00:19About 300 people staged a peaceful protest in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday
00:24against U.S. President Donald Trump's planned visit to Malaysia
00:27for the 47th ASEAN Summit in October.
00:31The demonstrators, comprising Malaysians and foreigners,
00:35gathered at 5 p.m. along Jalan Bukit Bintang
00:37before marching to the KLCC Twin Towers,
00:41urging the government to reject Trump's visit.
00:46Boycott, divestment and sanctions Malaysia, BDS Malaysia chairman,
00:52Professor Dr. Mohamed Nazari Ismail, who led the rally,
00:55said Trump's policies showed blatant disregard for Palestinian lives
00:59and enabled violence against them.
01:02Hosting him, he added, would betray Malaysia's long-standing solidarity with Palestine
01:07and stain the nation's diplomatic integrity.
01:10The group also urged the government to cut ties with U.S. companies
01:14as a gesture of support for Palestine.
01:17Former PKR Vice President and ex-Batu MP Tian Chua,
01:20who joined the protest, said Trump's pro-Israel stance
01:24left no place for him at the ASEAN Summit.
01:27He warned more protests would follow if the visit goes ahead.
01:31The protest ended peacefully around 7 p.m. under police presence.
