03:53They need to stand out and be noticed so that agents, designers, and the press see not only

04:00their impeccable sense of style but their ability to wear and sell a look.

04:05Your job is to make certain that that happens.

04:08At this point, I'm feeling pretty nervous that Koji might have a completely different style than I do.

04:48We have the same aesthetic, we have the same idea, and we have the same vibe.

04:52When you go to, like, an event, you don't have to be all over the top.

04:58It's like designing something for myself if I was a black girl.

05:41Valerie's concept is that she wants something flattering to show off her curves.

05:45She's going to be in a room full of beautiful girls, so she wants to be able to stand out.

05:49So we're definitely going to do, like, a shorter length.

05:54So Kaylee walks in, and she's a bit apprehensive just because she's not sure what she wants.

06:02Yes, I love my back.

06:04She thinks she wants color, but then maybe she doesn't.

06:07She's very indecisive, so I'll have to coach her into being comfortable with it.

06:19I'm having some thoughts about this red.

06:21Fatma has a color scheme in mind that I'm not too wild about.

06:35I'm having positive thoughts about it because it's just going so smoothly between us,

06:39and I think she comes to me with a really great sense of style.

06:43I want, like, a low v-neck back.

06:47Are you sure this is good for this occasion?

06:49I think so, like, because I like to stand out.

06:52Whenever I go somewhere, I want to make a statement.

06:54I'm just worried, like, a royal blue and gold jumpsuit is going to look like a costume.

06:59Royal blue, I mean, that's a strong color.

07:01That color makes a statement by itself.

07:04Me and Emily start talking.

07:06She wants a royal blue satin jumpsuit with gold rope.

07:11I'm afraid that, like, if you do that in addition to the entire body being royal blue,

07:17like, that's going to be a lot.

07:19I automatically get really scared because that's not me at all,

07:23and I have to stand by this garment.

07:26I basically want to show that I don't want to do, like, everyday commercial work.

07:30I want to do the artistic and the edgy,

07:33and I want to step out of everybody's comfort zone.

07:39I don't really know that era as much as she does.

07:43I'm happy with lace or leather.

07:45I haven't worked with lace a whole lot, but we can play with it.

11:34And then for the belt, I'm thinking of kind of four times over doing like a stitch on top of that, just, you know, layering.

11:49You know, because it could go there. This has definitely a wow factor potential. I can't wait to see it.

18:14At this point, I'm just really trying to focus on what's important and what do I need to get done now.

18:20It's just a lot of the little handwork about the tailoring that I really want to have the time to do perfect.

18:30As long as I send something down the runway that I'm proud of, then it doesn't really matter.

18:35But it's definitely nerve-wracking.

18:37I made her into kind of this gothic Cinderella, and she loves the look.

18:43But at the same time, she would go to the party, and people might be looking at her for the wrong reasons.

18:48I think the fit in here right now is beautiful.

18:51My garment is at about 85%.

18:54I still have to do the zipper.

18:56I have to insert the collar.

18:57I have to hem it, blah, blah, blah.

18:59I am a complete wreck, as usual.

21:39It's kind of this mix of 1950s and, like, Marilyn Manson goth or something.

21:44Koji is a little bit different than most of the other models, which I like, so she's got

21:49a little bit more of an edge to her.

21:51I pleased my client, but at the same time, it's not really my aesthetic, so I hope the judges

21:56like it.

23:09Most people were getting dresses made and I was getting like a three-piece outfit, so I

23:46Epperson's dress is one of those dresses that you could see the judges hating or loving.

23:53I get it because I know he likes to shred pieces and reattach them.

23:58So it's definitely his aesthetic.

25:44As you know, in fashion one day you're in and the next day you're out.

25:49For this challenge, the tables were turned.

25:52Usually your models work for you, but this week you had to work for them.

25:57You had to create a look that would make them stand out and be noticed at an industry event.

26:03You had $100 in one day to put it together.

26:08All right.

26:08Let's meet the judges.

26:11First, we have American designer Mark Bauer.

26:14Filling in for Nina Garcia, we have editor for Marie Claire magazine Zoe Glasner.

26:19An award-winning costume designer and top celebrity stylist whose clientele includes Angelina Julie, Jen, Raid.

26:28We will score your designs as they come down the runway.

26:30One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.

26:36Let's start the show.

26:43I think my dress really shows off her curves.

26:47I would have still preferred a little bit of color on the runway, but I really feel like this dress she can rock to an event.

26:56Celine looks absolutely amazing.

26:58Oh my God, I actually have a chance of winning this.

27:02She's the only one that looks extremely chic, and I tailored it to the T.

27:10It's very much what I do, and she looks like a lady, which is what she wanted.

27:14So, mission accomplished.

27:16It fits her perfectly, it's done to perfection, there are no pins in it or whatever.

27:26So, I am confident.

27:28The color looks gorgeous on her.

27:32It's not something that if they had told me, hey, make an outfit for this model, that I would have made, but the dress looks great.

27:42Koji's walk is fierce, so I think that it's definitely a fun look.

27:46I did take a risk, but I'm happy that I'm pushing myself in different directions.

27:52Katie walks down with such elation.

27:58It's really exciting to see that she's happy in the garment I created for her.

28:02My client's idea with my idea was perfect.

28:14She's romantic and then rough.

28:17I'm like elegant and then jagged edges.

28:19I feel like no one else is doing what I'm doing here.

28:24She loved everything about what I put her in.

28:26She wanted to look hot and girly at the same time, and that's what I think I did for her.

28:29I feel like my client's happy, and I feel like it definitely represents me as a designer.

28:43I'm very excited about my dress, and I think Fatma looks absolutely stunning in it.

28:48I think the overall presentation of the dress is really wow-worthy.

28:55As Vanessa comes out, I still love it.

28:57Do I think maybe I could have pushed it further?

29:04My goal was to make something for Lisa so that when she walks in, I want people to just turn
