00:01Previously on Project Runway
00:03You will be working in teams of two.
00:06I'm gonna choose Epperson.
00:08I'd like to work with Ramon.
00:09We have to understand each other.
00:11I don't have nothing else to say. I'm good.
00:13I don't know what the judge's take is gonna be,
00:15but if I gotta save myself, I will.
00:17I'm trying to keep Mitchell as focused as possible.
00:20Every time I turn around, he's gone.
00:21Ow!
00:22I'll meet the same bitches.
00:26You didn't come up with a concept.
00:27My concept wasn't good enough.
00:28I'm not finished.
00:30Exactly, that's what I was going to do.
00:31I'm not finished.
00:32What did you do, Mitchell?
00:33I worked in the swimsuit.
00:34You did the swimsuit and Ramon did everything else?
00:36Ramon, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:39Are you serious?
00:41Mitchell, three strikes and you're out.
00:44Never in Project Runway history
00:46has a team member for winning design been eliminated.
00:52This is Project Runway.
00:54Of course I'm the best.
00:55Let's do this.
00:56The search for the next big fashion designer.
00:59I have to win.
01:00You better watch out.
01:01Sixteen designers.
01:03Ivan, you're out.
01:04Don't get cut.
01:05Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
01:08I'm the best designer here.
01:10I have no fear.
01:11Make it work.
01:12That's my one.
01:13But only one can be the winner.
01:16This is my dream.
01:17For these sixteen designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:22The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie-Claire magazine, a Paris vacation courtesy of Avion, and $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to start their own line.
01:35I am really excited to find out what the challenge is.
01:42We need to weed out the talentless people.
01:45I mean, it's time.
01:47Hopefully we're not in teams again and we can showcase our own talent.
01:53Yeah.
01:54Working with Crystal.
01:55It was really hard.
01:56I know it was so hard on her.
01:57It was hard on me.
01:58Going into the next challenge.
01:59I'm hoping if I don't win, I'd at least be in the top three.
02:03Now that I'll be known as the B-I-T-C-H.
02:06Oh, I don't think so.
02:08What happened in this situation is you did not stand up for yourself early enough.
02:14Anyway, I'm just glad it's a new day.
02:16It's a new day.
02:17I just want to forget about yesterday.
02:19All right, let's hit it.
02:20Ha-cha!
02:23Are you coming?
02:25Let's go and see what happens today.
02:33Hello.
02:34Hi.
02:35We're down to 13 designers.
02:37Lucky 13.
02:39So I bet that you're ready to hear about your next challenge.
02:42Yes.
02:43Well, Tim is waiting for you in the workroom with 13 women
02:48who know exactly what they want.
02:51Your challenge is simple.
02:53Make all of these women very, very happy.
02:56Easy enough.
02:57No?
03:00I mean, all we know is that there are 13 women who know what they want.
03:03I mean, it could be anything.
03:04It could be homeless people to Eskimos.
03:07Good luck.
03:08And I see you on the runway.
03:10Bye.
03:11Bye.
03:12Bye.
03:13Bye.
03:14Bye.
03:15Bye.
03:16We see all of our models sitting there and everybody just breathes this huge sigh of relief
03:32because people were thinking it was going to be bright still is.
03:36Designers, say hello to your clients for this challenge.
03:44The models of the runway have been invited to a special industry event and what they wear
03:49will very likely be their ticket to the future.
03:52Wow.
03:53They need to stand out and be noticed so that agents, designers, and the press see not only
04:00their impeccable sense of style but their ability to wear and sell a look.
04:05Your job is to make certain that that happens.
04:08At this point, I'm feeling pretty nervous that Koji might have a completely different style than I do.
04:15Okay.
04:16All right, designers, you have your new clients.
04:21You have 30 minutes to caucus.
04:23Then we're going shopping at Mood where you'll have a budget of $100.
04:26And this is your first one-day challenge to have until midnight tonight.
04:32I will see you in 30 minutes.
04:34Thanks, everybody.
04:35Have fun.
04:36Tell me what you don't want.
04:41No jersey.
04:44Deep purple.
04:45This challenge is actually kind of simple.
04:47I know what Emory likes.
04:48We have the same aesthetic, we have the same idea, and we have the same vibe.
04:52When you go to, like, an event, you don't have to be all over the top.
04:54Like, I'm here.
04:55You know, just simple, understated.
04:58It's like designing something for myself if I was a black girl.
05:02You know?
05:03Fresh.
05:04Right.
05:05That should be fresh.
05:06And not too much.
05:07Like, something that is, like, simple but interesting.
05:09Not a little girl, but kind of, like, sexy, but not too much.
05:13Right.
05:14I want something that will show my body, but not to expose too much.
05:17I don't want something too big.
05:19Right.
05:20And if it's long, then I just want it tight.
05:21Right.
05:22It's something tight.
05:23My model, Mattar, oh, man, she just had a whole list.
05:26From sexy, romantic, chic, elegant, classy, fitted, short, punk, tiger.
05:33I'm like, wait, wait, wait.
05:41Valerie's concept is that she wants something flattering to show off her curves.
05:45She's going to be in a room full of beautiful girls, so she wants to be able to stand out.
05:49So we're definitely going to do, like, a shorter length.
05:52You definitely don't want anything long.
05:54So Kaylee walks in, and she's a bit apprehensive just because she's not sure what she wants.
06:01Do you like having an open back?
06:02Yes, I love my back.
06:04She thinks she wants color, but then maybe she doesn't.
06:07She's very indecisive, so I'll have to coach her into being comfortable with it.
06:12So it's definitely going to be you.
06:14There'll be a little bit of quirkiness of my aesthetic.
06:17Yeah, I want that.
06:18Okay.
06:19I'm having some thoughts about this red.
06:21Fatma has a color scheme in mind that I'm not too wild about.
06:25Red is a little garish for a model event.
06:29Black and gold would be better for her.
06:32The model that I'm working with is Tanisha.
06:35I'm having positive thoughts about it because it's just going so smoothly between us,
06:39and I think she comes to me with a really great sense of style.
06:43I want, like, a low v-neck back.
06:46Oh, my God.
06:47Are you sure this is good for this occasion?
06:49I think so, like, because I like to stand out.
06:52Whenever I go somewhere, I want to make a statement.
06:54I'm just worried, like, a royal blue and gold jumpsuit is going to look like a costume.
06:59Royal blue, I mean, that's a strong color.
07:01That color makes a statement by itself.
07:04Me and Emily start talking.
07:06She wants a royal blue satin jumpsuit with gold rope.
07:11I'm afraid that, like, if you do that in addition to the entire body being royal blue,
07:17like, that's going to be a lot.
07:19I automatically get really scared because that's not me at all,
07:23and I have to stand by this garment.
07:26I basically want to show that I don't want to do, like, everyday commercial work.
07:30I want to do the artistic and the edgy,
07:33and I want to step out of everybody's comfort zone.
07:35Yeah, okay.
07:36Koji basically tells me that she wants kind of this 1950s look.
07:39I don't really know that era as much as she does.
07:43I'm happy with lace or leather.
07:45I haven't worked with lace a whole lot, but we can play with it.
07:48I think that this is a really big challenge.
07:51I'm designing new stuff and pushing myself in different directions.
07:56Thank you, models.
07:57I think I got everything.
07:59Yeah, you're going to rock it, I'm sure.
08:01I'm sure you're going to rock it.
08:02I'm excited.
08:03I'm really, really excited.
08:05All right, designers, come with me.
08:11All right, you have your $100 budget.
08:13You have 30 minutes to shop.
08:15Go!
08:16Oh, yeah, that's actually perfect.
08:23So I cut four yards in place?
08:25Yes.
08:28I see this black suiting fabric.
08:30I'm super excited that I've,
08:31I feel like I've just had this really great find of the fabric.
08:37Running around the fabric still looking for orange fabric.
08:39And one bright piece of orange fabric was terrible.
08:43So I scrapped it.
08:45I told Tim, I said, that's it on the floor.
08:47I decided to go with brown.
08:48You're going to make it work.
08:49I know.
08:50And remember, you're the designer.
08:51She's the client.
08:52You can only address your needs as well as you can.
08:57Five minutes, everybody.
09:00My model, Valerie, she likes warm colors.
09:03Chocolate browns and, you know, black.
09:05Me, personally, as a designer, I never really design anything in black.
09:09All right, designers, that's it.
09:11Time is up.
09:12Let's head back to the work room.
09:14Thank you, Mood.
09:15Plenty.
09:23Ow, that was painful on my finger.
09:44What's the matter?
09:46I was just thinking about somebody else having to go home.
09:50Somebody else what? Having to go home?
09:51Having to go home.
09:52What do you think it's going to be this time?
09:54It's just so depressing. I don't know.
09:56Mean.
10:01You know, this is the first time that I've felt like people have gone home.
10:06You know, it's like you think 13 is a lot, but then you look around and you're like, oh.
10:10You're just getting knocked off.
10:16If anyone has a fully finished cocktail dress, come over here.
10:20I work best under pressure.
10:25Some of the designers are still struggling.
10:27I'm a little nervous about the timeline that they've given us.
10:32You work, you work, you work, and I know I'll still be sewing as Tim rips the needle out of my hand to drag me to the runway.
10:42Coming up on Project Runway.
10:44I don't want it to look like a smurf prom dress.
10:45Prom dress.
10:46Don't use that word again.
10:47I am a complete wreck as usual.
10:50Well, what the hell do I do in this case?
10:51I mean, I will say it's a bold color.
10:54It's just looking like she's been rolling around in bed.
10:57Hi, everyone.
11:12Hi, Tim.
11:13How is everybody?
11:14Good.
11:14Good.
11:15I'm just here to check in on you.
11:17Althea.
11:18Hey.
11:19How are you?
11:19Good.
11:20My model wants like a black look that's a simple skirt that shows off her legs, and then like a man's cigarette jacket that sort of goes with it.
11:30What's a cigarette jacket? You mean a smoking jacket?
11:32Like a smoking jacket, sorry.
11:33Okay, sorry.
11:34And then for the belt, I'm thinking of kind of four times over doing like a stitch on top of that, just, you know, layering.
11:42I don't like it. I don't think it has to look like a cummerbund. I think it can just look like a sash.
11:46And that's true. It actually might, with the black suiting and then the...
11:49You know, because it could go there. This has definitely a wow factor potential. I can't wait to see it.
11:55Yeah, I'm excited.
11:56I am too.
11:57Thanks, Tim.
11:59Oh, hey.
12:00Talk to me.
12:01All right. So I had a consultation with my model. She wanted to accentuate that she has a small waist and it's a long torso.
12:11So what about the color decision?
12:12So the color, she really wanted to go with a green, an emerald green, and I love playing with the color.
12:19It's, I mean, I will say it's a bold color.
12:21It's a bold color. Tim's going to say she looks like a salad.
12:27Thanks, Christopher.
12:29Epperson, talk to me.
12:30This is the direction she wanted to go in. Sexy, romantic, flowing, or strong punk.
12:35See, from what?
12:36Flowing to strong punk.
12:37What?
12:37I know, totally, totally.
12:39Wow.
12:40Flowing, strong punk, cocktail tiger.
12:44Well, this is chic.
12:46I got chic.
12:47There's also innovation in what you're doing there.
12:49At least from here to here. I wouldn't touch it. I think it's beautiful.
12:53Okay.
12:53Just, the Epperson.
12:56Okay.
12:58Hello, Crystal.
12:59Hey.
13:00Talk to me.
13:01What I wanted to do was kind of use a fabric that has some stability in it that would really, you know, show off her curves.
13:08My concern about this is that it looks, and forgive me for this blunt word, it looks messy.
13:14It's just looking like she's been rolling around in bed.
13:17Okay.
13:18Well, we don't want that.
13:19We don't want that.
13:21Well, time-wise, you need to make decisions.
13:24All right. Well, I got a lot of work to do then.
13:27Go, go, go. Thank you.
13:31Hi, Logan.
13:33Hi, Tim.
13:34How are things?
13:36Kind of a work in progress.
13:38I don't want it to look like, I don't know, like a Smurf prom dress or something, you know?
13:43Well, now that you've said Smurf, you shouldn't have.
13:45Don't use that word again.
13:46Don't blend it in anybody's head.
13:49I've never really worked with a lot of lace before, so I was kind of an experimental thing for me.
13:56You have a conundrum.
13:57I know.
13:58You really do.
14:08Carol Hannah.
14:09Hi, Tim.
14:10Talk to me.
14:11So I really wanted to give her an emphasis on the waist, show off her bust, and then, you know, stay close to the body.
14:18I mean, the one comment I'm going to make about the top is this design robbing your model of her youth.
14:27Okay?
14:30Designers, I just want you to know I am extremely excited by all the potential in this room.
14:39Soon, your models will be coming in for a fitting.
14:42So take advantage of that time.
14:44Take care.
14:45Have fun with your models, but not too much fun.
14:47With this challenge, like any other challenge, I'm basically focusing on doing my best.
15:03My family is constantly on my mind.
15:05I want them to be proud of me.
15:08Hey.
15:09How are you?
15:11I'm good.
15:12We're good.
15:14We're great.
15:15We're in the new room.
15:16We're, you know, we're doing okay.
15:21How's Hila and Chila?
15:24Hey, Hila.
15:25Hi, Hila.
15:26How are you?
15:27I'm good.
15:28I love you.
15:29Love you, love you, love you.
15:30Kiss everybody.
15:31Everybody kiss everybody for me, okay?
15:36It's so hard being away from my family.
15:38It's the hardest thing I've ever experienced.
15:41I love you.
15:43Bye, honey.
15:44Bye, babe.
15:45Love you.
15:45Bye.
15:46I hope all of this pays off, because I choose not to ever be away from them like this again.
15:53Tim gave me my critique.
16:19It was a really hard critique, so I scrapped that dress completely.
16:22I got to come up with something else.
16:24And I said, you know what?
16:25Black will be safe, and it better be good.
16:28How about the funeral?
16:30Come on.
16:31It's just way too much beauty happening.
16:34Hey, girl.
16:35Hey.
16:35How are you doing?
16:37Good.
16:37I hope you like this color.
16:38I hope you like this color.
16:40Hi.
16:40Oh, my God.
16:42I'm loving this right now.
16:44It's totally getting there.
16:45First, this is the only orange they had cheap.
16:49Yeah, a little too much.
16:51Then I started working with this.
16:53No, no, that's awful.
16:54This is this.
16:55That's the pattern.
16:56So, I'm like, okay, she wants orange.
16:58She wants orange.
16:59And I went with my own instincts.
17:00I've worked with so many different celebrities and different people, and they trust my judgment.
17:05So, why am I so concerned with this situation when I know that I want to make her look the best she can?
17:11Why didn't you love her?
17:12Great.
17:13Great, great, great.
17:16You want more cleavage?
17:17You want more?
17:18Yeah.
17:18Well, you're the one who said you didn't want a lot of cleavage.
17:21Wait, no, no, no.
17:21Not too low.
17:22Just more cleavage.
17:23It's fine.
17:23It's fine.
17:23It's fine.
17:23Honey, please don't tell me what to do.
17:26I don't ever tell you how to model.
17:27Oh, yes, I do tell you how to model, don't I?
17:35Longer?
17:36Yeah.
17:37Oh, yeah.
17:37Longer.
17:38Not sure.
17:38Keep going, Charter.
17:39Charter, I want that Charter to hang out.
17:49You don't like it.
17:50No.
17:50I can tell you don't.
17:51You always say that.
17:53I can tell you don't like it.
17:53What are you talking about?
17:55Okay, show me how you're going to walk with this.
17:57I tend to get a little anxious, and anxiety is not a good thing to have when you're designing,
18:02because you've got to really just trust your gut.
18:05I swear this is exactly what I envisioned, and I wanted it black.
18:09I get this, too.
18:10This is even more amazing than I had expected it, like I had envisioned it.
18:14At this point, I'm just really trying to focus on what's important and what do I need to get done now.
18:20It's just a lot of the little handwork about the tailoring that I really want to have the time to do perfect.
18:26We're all nervous about our ideas screwing you all up.
18:30As long as I send something down the runway that I'm proud of, then it doesn't really matter.
18:35But it's definitely nerve-wracking.
18:37I made her into kind of this gothic Cinderella, and she loves the look.
18:43But at the same time, she would go to the party, and people might be looking at her for the wrong reasons.
18:48I think the fit in here right now is beautiful.
18:51My garment is at about 85%.
18:54I still have to do the zipper.
18:56I have to insert the collar.
18:57I have to hem it, blah, blah, blah.
18:59I am a complete wreck, as usual.
19:01Okay.
19:03The dress is fitting Valerie very nicely.
19:06It's showing off her silhouette.
19:08The only thing I'm a little concerned about is that it might be a little too simple.
19:11It would be cute.
19:13In the front, okay, so I was adding, I was playing with some of these.
19:17So, yeah, I don't know.
19:23Oh, okay.
19:25I mean, if you don't want it, we can take it off.
19:28You don't want to just use this material?
19:31Like...
19:31My garment is still in pieces, so she's kind of really hesitant.
19:37For people who don't know construction, it's really hard for them to envision it when it's just in pieces.
19:42But she trusts me, and I hope she trusts me.
19:45I hope she doesn't know.
19:47Okay.
19:51As I look around the room, I notice that my garment is completely different than everyone else's.
19:57It's not done yet.
19:58Don't judge.
20:01As I leave the workroom, the only thing I'm thinking is get a good night's sleep,
20:12because it's going to be two hours of hell tomorrow morning.
20:17Coming up on Project Runway.
20:19You've got ten minutes.
20:21Oh, no, I just broke the needle.
20:24I definitely still have a lot of doubts.
20:26I hope it comes together.
20:27I can't.
20:28I'm, like, about to cry.
20:31I can't compete with your sexiness right now, Logan.
20:42Are you wearing silver shoes, too?
20:44Yeah.
20:45It'll distract Heidi from staring at my dress so long.
20:49You, Logan, are in.
20:51I'm nervous about the runway show, just thinking to myself, you know, Crystal, you pull things
21:00off at the last minute before, but this is where a designer has to really think creatively.
21:05Runway, here, be colored.
21:16Morning of the runway show, I come in, I take one more look over my dress, which is what I
21:19always do.
21:20Just to give it a look, see if I need to add anything real quick or if I need to take anything
21:23away.
21:25It's great.
21:26Boney hat.
21:27Love it.
21:28Are you going to wear it?
21:29Yes, I'm going to wear it today on the runway.
21:34If someone was to say, like, make a 50s dress, I'd be like, what?
21:39It's kind of this mix of 1950s and, like, Marilyn Manson goth or something.
21:44Koji is a little bit different than most of the other models, which I like, so she's got
21:49a little bit more of an edge to her.
21:51I pleased my client, but at the same time, it's not really my aesthetic, so I hope the judges
21:56like it.
21:57Are you working it out, Crystal?
22:01Hi, I'm good.
22:02I'm definitely up against the clock, but I don't want to just do anything, but I can't
22:06do it and I will do it.
22:07Even though I would have preferred to have done a color, you know, every woman likes a
22:11nice, chic, black dress in their closet.
22:18Good morning, designers.
22:19Good morning, Dan.
22:21I'm about to send in your models.
22:22You have two hours to send them to the Garnier hair studio and the L'Oreal Paris makeup room.
22:28Please use the Macy's accessory wall thoughtfully, all right?
22:32But two hours and then we are all walking to the runway.
22:36All right.
22:37Okay?
22:38I'll be back.
22:39I'm sending in your models.
22:42Hey.
22:43How are you?
22:44They're either going to love it or they're going to hate it, so I've made something that
22:52I've never really made before and I'm happy that I am not just playing it safe.
22:57I feel really excited today.
23:01I'm not really nervous because I'm really confident in what I made.
23:06Oh my God, you look killer.
23:08Is it so cute?
23:09Most people were getting dresses made and I was getting like a three-piece outfit, so I
23:15know that was a big challenge for her and she really impressed me.
23:18There's still a lot of people that aren't finished.
23:21No one's really looks like crap, but I did think Althea's would have looked like crap.
23:26I mean, I think it would have looked nicer if she stapled it together, to be quite frank.
23:31Oh my God, it's perfect.
23:32It's perfect.
23:34I think the people that are going to be in the bottom are definitely Epperson because that
23:38just looks like a rag.
23:40And then Johnny's garment looks like he just threw it in a dryer or just like stomped on
23:44it and it's awful.
23:46Epperson's dress is one of those dresses that you could see the judges hating or loving.
23:53I get it because I know he likes to shred pieces and reattach them.
23:58So it's definitely his aesthetic.
24:00It's going to be...
24:04Only time will tell if the judges get it.
24:07Are the hair and makeups really important for the dress dress?
24:14It looks pretty.
24:15Do you like it?
24:16No.
24:20Oh, I love it.
24:21I love it.
24:27Designers, you have 10 minutes.
24:30All right.
24:31And I mean it.
24:32We're going to have a nice, smooth exit, aren't we?
24:34Yes.
24:35Yes.
24:35Yes.
24:37Oh no, I just broke the needle.
24:43You're about to feel it.
24:44The needle goes right into that back.
24:48I can't.
24:49I'm like about to crack.
24:50I'm feeling very stressed.
24:51I'm wishing that I have more time to complete it.
24:56I'm probably more nervous just because the garment isn't all me.
25:00Designers and models, this is it.
25:03Yes, we're going to the runway and we are going to have a fabulous show.
25:08Yes.
25:11Pepperson.
25:12He's here.
25:13Louise.
25:19That's it.
25:19Thank you, everybody.
25:20Coming up on Project Runway.
25:25You've just aged her 10, 15 years, which for the model world is like dog years.
25:40Hello.
25:40Hi.
25:41Hi.
25:42Welcome to the runway.
25:44As you know, in fashion one day you're in and the next day you're out.
25:49For this challenge, the tables were turned.
25:52Usually your models work for you, but this week you had to work for them.
25:57You had to create a look that would make them stand out and be noticed at an industry event.
26:03You had $100 in one day to put it together.
26:08All right.
26:08Let's meet the judges.
26:11First, we have American designer Mark Bauer.
26:14Filling in for Nina Garcia, we have editor for Marie Claire magazine Zoe Glasner.
26:19An award-winning costume designer and top celebrity stylist whose clientele includes Angelina Julie, Jen, Raid.
26:28We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
26:30One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
26:36Let's start the show.
26:43I think my dress really shows off her curves.
26:47I would have still preferred a little bit of color on the runway, but I really feel like this dress she can rock to an event.
26:56Celine looks absolutely amazing.
26:58Oh my God, I actually have a chance of winning this.
27:02She's the only one that looks extremely chic, and I tailored it to the T.
27:10It's very much what I do, and she looks like a lady, which is what she wanted.
27:14So, mission accomplished.
27:16It fits her perfectly, it's done to perfection, there are no pins in it or whatever.
27:26So, I am confident.
27:28The color looks gorgeous on her.
27:32It's not something that if they had told me, hey, make an outfit for this model, that I would have made, but the dress looks great.
27:42Koji's walk is fierce, so I think that it's definitely a fun look.
27:46I did take a risk, but I'm happy that I'm pushing myself in different directions.
27:52Katie walks down with such elation.
27:58It's really exciting to see that she's happy in the garment I created for her.
28:02My client's idea with my idea was perfect.
28:14She's romantic and then rough.
28:17I'm like elegant and then jagged edges.
28:19I feel like no one else is doing what I'm doing here.
28:24She loved everything about what I put her in.
28:26She wanted to look hot and girly at the same time, and that's what I think I did for her.
28:29I feel like my client's happy, and I feel like it definitely represents me as a designer.
28:43I'm very excited about my dress, and I think Fatma looks absolutely stunning in it.
28:48I think the overall presentation of the dress is really wow-worthy.
28:55As Vanessa comes out, I still love it.
28:57Do I think maybe I could have pushed it further?
29:00Maybe.
29:04My goal was to make something for Lisa so that when she walks in, I want people to just turn
29:10around and go, wow.
29:12I nailed it.
29:14I definitely nailed it.
29:15If I call your name, please step forward.
29:22If I have called your name, congratulations.
29:44Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
29:48You can leave the runway.
29:54The remaining designers have the highest and the lowest scores.
29:58One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
30:03Let's bring out your models.
30:04I would like to start with Carol Hanna.
30:14Was it easy to work with her?
30:16Lisa is amazing.
30:17I tried to kind of feel out what side of her personality she really wanted to show, and
30:21then I took that and tried to infuse my style in it.
30:24This is just beautifully executed.
30:26I mean, the juxtaposition of that draping with the sharp-edged skirt is really beautiful.
30:33I think you did a really great job, so well done.
30:36I think it's really sophisticated, but not stuffy at all.
30:41It's just a good mix of soft and hard, but still edgy.
30:44It's very cool.
30:46It's really good to hear that you'll see the juxtaposition of the soft with the hard,
30:51because that's really kind of the core of my aesthetic.
30:54Did you just say y'all?
30:55Shit.
30:56It's so cute.
30:57I'm in Charleston.
31:00All right, let's move on to Logan.
31:02Let's hear from your model what she wanted to look like.
31:05I like lace, I like feathers, and I think that's what he got.
31:09I wrote down, no cheap, tacky prom.
31:13I wrote prom, too.
31:14Yeah.
31:16I think it's a mix of the lace or something.
31:18Yeah, well, it doesn't look like lace on the top there.
31:20It looks a little thick.
31:21When I purchased a lace, and when I got it back to the workroom, I looked at it, and it
31:26was just this more of a floral print.
31:28So I actually doubled up the lace to kind of try to get rid of it.
31:33Because it just reads too black.
31:35Do you like it?
31:36The silhouette is definitely a little bit different than what I normally work with.
31:40I actually almost scratched this whole idea of the bottom and made it into a pencil.
31:44You totally should have.
31:45I mean, that's a classic example of you have to listen to your first instinct.
31:48That's right.
31:50You're really cute, and I like your pants and your sneakers.
31:53I hope that helps me so much.
31:55It's not done.
31:56Yes, for sure.
31:59Jefferson, I would like to know from Matar what you wanted.
32:03Something that is romantic and punk at the same time.
32:08And I also wanted something that is animal-inspired.
32:11Why is that?
32:12Do you feel like you have the kitty cat inside of you?
32:14Right?
32:15Yeah, I like it too.
32:16You know, kind of tiger fit from the hair.
32:20I love the dress.
32:22I know how difficult it is to take stretch fabrics and applique them on top of each other,
32:27and you did an incredible job.
32:29I mean, I do a lot of the lattice mixing over, but, you know, with stretch fabric, it was difficult.
32:36Well, you're a craftsman, and it's obvious.
32:38You've taken a simple silhouette, which we've seen a million times, and you've given it literally a new twist.
32:43Wow, thank you so much.
32:45I love the dress very much.
32:46I think she looks really sexy in it, but she needs help up top, you know?
32:52Yes.
32:52To me, it's okay.
32:53Maybe it's because I've been working for Victoria's Secret for too long.
32:56For me, they have to be perky, and they have to be in the right spot.
33:00This says to me, this guy has a concept of how clothing is made.
33:03He's bringing some things unique and different.
33:06Job well done.
33:09Let's continue with Johnny.
33:11What did you want?
33:13Okay, I wanted something purple.
33:16Just fun, flirty, young, pretty.
33:19Here's what I wrote on my card.
33:21The purse is the most interesting thing about this outfit.
33:23It's a cute dress, but it doesn't really show me anything unique about your design aesthetic.
33:32The world really doesn't need more of that dress.
33:36To me, it looks very bridesmaid.
33:38If she had, like, the flowers in her hand like this, and there would be four more.
33:46It's like a blessing and a curse in the fashion world.
33:49Wearable.
33:50I understand.
33:51So, on the one hand, you're like, oh, super, you know?
33:53On the other hand, you're like, yeah, wearable.
33:55I appreciate all your criticism.
33:57I really do.
33:58Because that way, when I go forward, I use that as a stepping stone.
34:01Yeah, I just...
34:02That's very smart.
34:02Crystal, Valerie, tell us, what did you want?
34:09I wanted a dark color.
34:10I wanted something that was effortless, chic, and I wanted it above me.
34:16I feel like she does not look youthful to me.
34:19You've just aged her 10, 15 years, which, for the model world, is like dog years.
34:25Why, of all the fabrics that exist in downtown Los Angeles, would you pick the most plain black?
34:33Is that like a jersey or something?
34:34It was a really pretty green color.
34:36Yeah.
34:36I just wasn't sure.
34:37But that's what happened, is you didn't take a risk.
34:39You went with the safest thing, and honestly, that never pays off.
34:43Valerie, do you like your dress?
34:45Yeah, I do.
34:46But that's why Valerie's not a designer.
34:48Right?
34:49Yeah.
34:50Thank God.
34:53Athea, how was it working with your model?
34:55She's great because I think she comes with a great sense of style, so that was easy to work with.
35:00I have to say, you were one of the best walkers today on the runway.
35:05Oh, thank you.
35:05You strutted like you meant it.
35:08This is why I never let anyone take her.
35:10I liked it very much.
35:11I thought it was very chic.
35:13Like, I would literally buy this right now, tomorrow, for a client.
35:16Like, I want it.
35:17I want to leave here with that jacket on my arms, okay?
35:20Love the shoes, the fabric.
35:21It's just so simple, but really, really well done.
35:25Love it.
35:25I, too, want to walk out of there with it.
35:27I mean, I think I've worn a suit once in my life and hung my head afterwards.
35:31This is a suit.
35:32Wow.
35:33Thank you very much.
35:34Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
35:38We're going to have a little chat, and then we'll call you back.
35:41You can leave the runway.
35:43Let's start with who we didn't like, Crystal.
35:57When you create something in black, it usually looks much better than color.
36:01You can get away with murder, and I think she succeeded in making a simple black dress look
36:05kind of cheap.
36:06The challenge was to make the model stand out at an industry party, which she didn't
36:11do.
36:11She basically looked like the girl that was serving the drinks, where you would be like,
36:14excuse me, ma'am, can I have another glass of champagne?
36:17It's just, oof.
36:20Okay, let's move on to Logan.
36:22I just think she gave him lace.
36:24She gave him 50s.
36:25She gave him feathers.
36:26He could have done something very cool.
36:28I mean, that dress was just...
36:30He did get too sucked in to buy what his model wanted, and kind of, like, lost his way a
36:35little bit.
36:37Johnny.
36:39It was safe.
36:40It was just safe.
36:40Worrying and too accessible.
36:42Anybody can wear that, and who cares?
36:44You have to push the envelope a little bit.
36:46You know, that's why we're not responding to a black dress.
36:50Yes.
36:50You know, or to a prom dress.
36:53So let's talk about, then, who we did like.
36:57Althea.
36:57I loved Althea's.
37:00That was, for me, a breath of fresh air.
37:02And she made three pieces.
37:05All that could work great individually, great together.
37:08The model felt it.
37:09The model worked it.
37:12All right, let's talk about Carol Hanna.
37:14I think she did a fabulous job, too.
37:16I thought her model looked really classy.
37:19You know, it had a little bit of sex appeal.
37:21You know, it was draped and very sweet, but the side was very bare.
37:25It was very well executed.
37:27Great.
37:27It's so important how clothes move.
37:29They look great static is one thing, but these clothes have to function in a real world, and that moved beautifully.
37:36I do like Epperson.
37:37I think that he showed today something that he can be edgy.
37:40It looked like it was painted on, and that is the true test of someone who really knows how to make clothes.
37:46Yeah.
37:47It was sexy and chic.
37:48In terms of body, you could see the body on that model the best.
37:52Yeah.
37:52I take your point about her boobs, though.
37:54I think she was flat-charted.
37:55I'm just a fest about boobs.
37:56That's just the thing.
37:57It was definitely a new bra situation.
37:58It's a new bra.
37:58It was a new bra situation.
38:00Or a no-boob model.
38:01And many of them out there, who are very famous.
38:05Yes.
38:05So, we've made our decision?
38:12I think so.
38:13All right.
38:13Let's bring them back out.
38:14The six of you represent the best and the worst.
38:31One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
38:35The six of you represent the best and the worst.
38:48One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
38:57Epperson?
38:58Yes?
38:59You're in.
38:59You can leave the runway.
39:00Okay.
39:02Bye.
39:02Bye.
39:02Bye.
39:02Bye.
39:02Bye.
39:02Bye.
39:05Athea, you are the winner of this challenge.
39:14You also have immunity for the next challenge and cannot be eliminated.
39:18You can leave the runway.
39:20Thank you guys very much.
39:25You won.
39:26Yeah.
39:28It feels good, because I've been the top three before, and I just really wanted that win.
39:35Carol, Hannah, you're in.
39:41You can leave the runway.
39:52Johnny, you're in.
39:54You can leave the runway.
39:56Crystal, Logan, one of you will be out.
40:12Crystal, your black cocktail dress is boring, and unfortunately looks cheap.
40:18You didn't take any chances, and that's something a successful designer needs to do.
40:24It's true.
40:26Logan, your model would stand out at a party, but for all the wrong reasons.
40:33From fabric choice and styling to silhouette, it really missed a mark.
40:38Logan, you're in.
40:53You can leave the runway.
40:58Go.
40:58That means, Crystal, you're out.
41:06Thank you for such an amazing opportunity.
41:08This was a dream come true.
41:12Auf Wiedersehen.
41:14All right.
41:14It's a little too soon for me to have been eliminated, I feel.
41:23Crystal, you're good at what you do.
41:25Just keep doing it.
41:26Aw, watch it.
41:26Aw.
41:27No, it's all good.
41:29I have a lot more to show and a lot more to prove, and I didn't get that chance.
41:33So, I have to deliver the line.
41:35I'm going to take your call.
41:36I have to send you to the workroom to clean up your space.
41:40Do I think I'm a great designer?
41:41I know I'm a great designer.
41:42Am I going to still keep moving forward?
41:45Absolutely, I am.
41:47I've been doing this for a long time.
41:48This is all I've ever wanted to be.
41:54Next week on Project Runway, this challenge will definitely be tough.
41:58But the answers will all be in black and white.
42:02This is the fabric for your challenge.
42:04I'm speechless.
42:07Just looking at the design, it's very ho-hum.
42:09You are going to have a time challenge.
42:11I do.
42:12It looks like a bunch of kindergartners did it.
42:14Ouch.
42:15Oh, my God.
42:16I'm so nervous.
42:17It's just a nightmare.
42:19Some of you look like you're kind of stalling out.
42:21I'm just really struggling.
42:23It looks like an insect.
42:25That's probably my mistake.
42:26It was just tacky.
42:28Jerk.
