00:00Could the United States run out of paint? The color economy touches nearly
00:05everything and if the price of paint gets too high then that's bad news for
00:09the producers of well pretty much everything including paint. When lockdown
00:14boredom during the pandemic led to an explosion in home improvement projects
00:18consumers sent the paint industry into overdrive. Unfortunately for them this
00:22collided with a perfect storm of events including unexpected freezes in Texas and
00:27global trade disruption. The consequences of all this? Supply of paint has
00:32plummeted and prices have skyrocketed. It looks like brighter walls might
00:37temporarily be off home wish lists. In 2021 the price of paint increased over 30%
00:43compared to the year before. The previous record for year-over-year price increase
00:48of paint was only 9% and that was set in just 2019. With shortages continuing to
00:54get worse people are starting to ask.
