00:00What don't you see?
00:07Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at the Easter eggs, references and callbacks in Wednesday Season 2 Parts 1 and 2.
00:16Your father has no ink in them, that's the way I'd like to keep it.
00:19My lips are sealed for my own protection.
00:22Number 10. Kansas City Scalpers Victims and Dolls.
00:26When we catch up with Wednesday Addams in Season 2, she's tied up in a serial killer's creepy lair filled with eerie-looking dolls.
00:34He said nightmares don't come true.
00:42He's under the delusion that I'm his next victim.
00:48I'll let him cherish that notion while I explain my predicament.
00:51As her inner monologue explains what led her here, there are photos of the Kansas City Scalpers' victims.
00:57While we're not shown close-ups of each doll, we can still see that they bear a striking resemblance to his victims.
01:03And if they're all like the one Wednesday gifted Enid, then they all have real human hair.
01:09I mean, it is a little creepy, but the curls are super soft.
01:14However, Wednesday wasn't missing any hair, and he still made her a look-alike doll.
01:18That's how I remember all my special guests.
01:27Number 9. Christopher Lloyd as Professor Orloff.
01:31One of Season 2's new characters is, ironically, Nevermore Academy's longest-serving educator, Professor Orloff,
01:38who is actually a disembodied head preserved in a jar.
01:41The biology teacher might look and sound familiar, because he's none other than legendary actor Christopher Lloyd.
02:02He's known for many iconic roles, including Doc Brown in Back to the Future and Judge Doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
02:10But Wednesday fans definitely know Lloyd as Uncle Fester in both 1991's The Addams Family and 1993's Addams Family Values.
02:18When he was asleep, I opened his skull and removed his brains.
02:23You did?
02:28A brother!
02:32Lloyd is always a joy to watch, but it's especially fun seeing him play a strict professor after portraying a character so unhinged as Fester.
02:40Let's get busy.
02:43Those are the Orbswolds stuff themselves, and I've got my eye on you too.
02:51Number 8. Wednesday's Attic Bedroom.
02:53Sort of straight out of the Chaz Adams cartoons, and it's very sparse and very minimal.
02:57It has like a chair and a desk.
02:59That's the essence of what we try to get to with the show.
03:01In Season 1 of Wednesday, we only saw quick glimpses of the Addams Family Mansion.
03:06The series mainly takes place at Nevermore Academy, showing how the titular teen navigates a school full of outcasts.
03:13Season 2 doesn't fully explore the mansion, but some early scenes and flashbacks are set in Wednesday's Attic Bedroom.
03:20I was hoping to spend more time with you this summer.
03:24I feel like I've barely seen you.
03:25Writers should always refill their creative cups before they begin again.
03:28So I indulged in my favorite passions, torment and humiliation.
03:31Production designer Mark Scruton took inspiration from Charles Adams' original comic in The New Yorker magazine.
03:38Right down to decor details like a painted octopus on the bed and a dinosaur mural.
03:43The sparse dwelling is a noticeable contrast to the half-colorful dorm she shares with Enid.
03:49Dividing our room equally.
03:53Looks like a rainbow vomited on your side.
03:56Silence would be appreciated.
03:58Number 7. Principal Dort's Edgar Allan Poe look.
04:01Hello fellow outcasts, and welcome back to Nevermore.
04:08I'm your principal, Barry Dort.
04:14And tonight we celebrate a new era.
04:17Season 1's finale saw Ms. Thornhill, aka Laurel Gates, kill Larissa Weems, leaving Nevermore without a principal.
04:24When school begins again, we're introduced to Principal Barry Dort, an enthusiastic outcast with pyro abilities and ulterior motives.
04:33I hate to speak ill of the dead, but in this case, Weems really fudged up.
04:37I don't like to speak ill of the dead either.
04:39It's much more fun to demonize the living.
04:41Upon first glance, Dort's quirky style doesn't particularly stand out among the other eccentrics.
04:46But when he's standing in his office, he points to a portrait of Nevermore alum Edgar Allan Poe.
04:52The late poet is someone he admires.
04:55So much so that Poe inspired his whole look, particularly his hairstyle and mustache.
05:00What a wonderful first day it's been, hasn't it?
05:02Oh, it's so nice to see this place brimming with outcast energy.
05:07Our most famous alumni would be proud.
05:10Number 6. The Addams Family Credo.
05:12In episode 1, we get to see the revival of an old Nevermore tradition, the Founder's Pyre Ceremony.
05:19Principal Dort uses the event to honor the students who helped defeat Joseph Crackstone,
05:23commemorating their bravery with a painting.
05:26I had this commission to commemorate how you and your rag-tag group of Nevermore buddies saved our school.
05:35By now, everyone should know Wednesday Addams isn't the type to enjoy the spotlight or deliver inspirational speeches.
05:50Still, Dort makes the mistake of having her come on stage and say a few words.
05:54Wednesday delivers a very on-brand diatribe, reciting her family's credo.
05:59Tonight?
05:59Yeah.
06:00Is our banquet of discontent, and we shall gladly feast on those who would subdue us.
06:12This is the first time we've heard it in the series, but many viewers might recognize the statement said by Morticia in 1991's The Addams Family.
06:20Like everything Addams-related, the credo is morbid, yet still encouraging.
06:24Sic gorgiamus allo subjectatus nook, we gladly feast on those who would subdue us.
06:33Not just pretty words.
06:36Number 5.
06:37Rotwood Cottage Decor
06:38When Gomez and Morticia drop off Wednesday in Pugsley at Nevermore, Principal Dort asks Morticia to head this year's gala fundraising committee.
06:46I realize I've ambushed you.
06:48No, I usually enjoy a good ambush.
06:50Especially when it involves daggers.
06:53Why don't you think about it overnight?
06:58This and I will discuss it on the ride home.
07:02Actually, I was hoping to keep you a little closer.
07:05He also offers them the Rotwood Cottage as a temporary residence on campus.
07:10Unfortunately, the last occupant, Marilyn Thornhill, aka Laurel Gates, was a big fan of pinks and florals.
07:17Who decorated this place?
07:20A homicidal maniac.
07:22No, he shouldn't cast aspersions, dear.
07:25Not all homicidal maniacs have such ghastly tastes.
07:28The interior design is reminiscent of the Addams Family set in the 1960s, which was actually pink, but aired on TV in black and white.
07:36Mark Scruton and his team filled the cottage with some classic Addams Family decor, including the stuffed bear, Iron Maiden, shrunken heads, and the iconic fan back chair.
07:47The various rose designs are a nod to Morticia's penchant for cutting them.
07:51With her macabre taste, she transforms the residence into a gothic delight.
07:55Where did you find those?
07:57From an expedition Gomez's Uncle Vasco led in the Peruvian rainforest.
08:02That's Uncle Vasco on the left.
08:05Nothing like family to make a house feel like a home.
08:10Number 4.
08:12Weems in the Afterlife
08:13This isn't hell.
08:16But I understand the confusion.
08:18After her untimely death in Season 1, fans hoped for but didn't expect to see the return of Larissa Weems.
08:25Then again, Wednesday is a show about the supernatural, so just about any character can re-emerge as a ghost.
08:32Weems appears to Wednesday as her new spirit guide, filling the position previously held by Goody Adams.
08:38There has to be another option.
08:40Your last spirit guide literally gave up her ghost to save you.
08:44Believe me, nobody was putting up their hand for this assignment.
08:47And yet here you are.
08:49The tantalizing prospect of tormenting you from beyond the grey was just too delicious to pass up.
08:54She makes a sly quip about this realm not being hell.
08:58A clever nod to Gwendolyn Christie's role as Lucifer Morningstar on Netflix's The Sandman.
09:03Wednesday isn't exactly thrilled to see her former principal,
09:06but we're sure excited for Christie's transition from dreams to Weems.
09:10The board will now look back upon the Weems era with fondness.
09:14Nevermore clearly needs a steady hand on the rudder.
09:17A leader of impeccable moral character.
09:20You covered up Rowan's murder and the existence of a Hyde.
09:24Mistakes were made, but that's all in the past.
09:28Number 3. Barbara Jean Day.
09:31How could my mother read this drivel?
09:37In episode 6, Wednesday, body swapped with Enid at the time,
09:42goes snooping in the Rotwood cottage and stumbles upon her mother's fantasy romance books.
09:47But Morticia isn't just an avid reader of spicy novels.
09:50She's an author, publishing under the pseudonym Barbara Jean Day.
09:54But I made the mistake of giving my mother one of my early efforts.
09:57The sound of her humiliating cackle still haunts me.
10:03So, after that I decided to keep my literary career a secret.
10:07It may seem like a random name with no significance,
10:10especially for those unfamiliar with the Addams Family creator Charles Addams.
10:14Barbara Jean Day was the cartoonist's first wife,
10:17rumored to be his inspiration for Morticia.
10:19However, Charles created the character in 1933,
10:23and didn't meet Barbara until 1942.
10:26Still, that's quite the deep cut.
10:28Perhaps one day you'll appreciate the intoxicating power of weaving mystery and passion.
10:35Number 2. Shakespeare References.
10:38Poe, Dante, Shelley, Dickens.
10:41Wednesday, you need to hurry!
10:43Wednesday is a series full of various literary references,
10:46many of which derive from the works of Nevermore alum Edgar Allan Poe,
10:51including the new Telltale Cafe food truck.
10:53But he's not the only legendary figure celebrated at the Academy.
10:57The doctor suggested I read to her.
10:59I chose Macbeth.
11:01Nothing like death, despair, and dismemberment to try and snap her out of her coma.
11:06Dish, come on.
11:08Denmark will still be rotten tomorrow.
11:12Wrong tragedy, my chérie.
11:14Last season, Wednesday was assigned to a dorm in Ophelia Hall,
11:18named after the character from William Shakespeare's Hamlet.
11:21Season 2 introduced the other three houses, or halls, at the school.
11:25Pugsley, Eugene, and Ajax reside in Caliban Hall, a character from The Tempest.
11:30The nice details of the fireplace.
11:32Being Caliban Hall, we couldn't really have somewhere without Caliban,
11:35so the sculpture represents Caliban in his cave,
11:38with a quote, be not afeard from The Tempest.
11:40The house sigils can be seen on students' clothing,
11:42like Thisby Hall on Bruno's jacket,
11:45and Puck Hall on Bianca's t-shirt,
11:47both from A Midsummer Night's Dream.
11:49Another new location is Iago Tower,
11:52referencing Shakespeare's Othello.
11:54How am I, then, a villain?
11:56Well, this advice is free, I give, and honest.
11:59Proble to thinking, and indeed,
12:01the course to win the moor again.

12:19Number 1.
12:20Ophelia's Flower Crown
12:21Season 2 added quite a few new characters
12:24who are sure to become fan favorites,
12:27but no one is more mysterious than Ophelia Frump,
12:30Morticia's younger sister.
12:31You've never been very forthcoming about Aunt Ophelia.
12:42You remind me a lot of her.
12:45Especially as you've gotten older.
12:47When Ophelia's raven powers drove her to the point of madness,
12:51their mother, Hester, had her committed to Willow Hill.
12:54However, she allegedly escaped and has been missing ever since.
12:57Aunt Ophelia was in there?
12:59When?
13:01Years ago, but she'd already flown the coop by the time I got committed.
13:04The Season 2 finale revealed that Hester has her daughter locked in a cellar.
13:08She's only shown from the back in the dark room,
13:10but we can make out her long blonde hair and flower crown,
13:14just like other versions of the character.
13:15Although the actress is unknown,
13:18Ophelia will likely play a major role in Season 3.
13:21Maybe Catherine Zeta-Jones will play both sisters,
13:24like Morticia actress Carolyn Jones in the 1960s show.
13:27Oh dear, just as my career was blossoming,
13:31it's nipped in the butt.
13:32Not yet, Ophelia, dear.
13:34Did you catch any of these?
13:36Let us know in the comments below.
13:38I thought you'd love the literary reference.
13:40Nothing like a bad pun to throw dirt on the coffin of epic poetry.
13:43Do you agree with our picks?
