00:00Gemma, this story has been everywhere today. She's admitted to underpaying stamp duty.
00:03She's apologised and said it was a mistake. Is that going to be enough to protect Angela Rayner politically?
00:08Well, do you know who's not happy about this? Her solicitors who handled it,
00:13who have said that they've been made a scapegoat very publicly in all the headlines.
00:19Publicly, this is not a great look. We never like it when our politicians make mistakes,
00:25you know, whether it was intended or not. And she said clearly that it wasn't.
00:30I think what we need to remember as well is she's buying an £800,000 flat in a very expensive area in
00:37the UK, which is about three times the national house average in the UK, especially when people
00:46there's the cost of living crisis and housing is unattainable for so many people. So that is
00:52definitely feeding into, you know, into the story. I do think, though, her background,
00:59you know, sort of among voters is that she's kind of one of them. You know, this is someone who has
01:06risen through the ranks. She was a teenage mother living on a council estate. She has a disabled son.
01:11She spoke about her struggles raising him. So I do wonder if her personal life will bolster her
01:19politically because of how far she's risen. Starmer supports her very strongly. He hasn't yet said
01:27what the outcome of the investigation. He still hasn't said if the outcome, you know, is not in
01:33her favour that he will fire her. He still won't even say that. So she has a lot of support in the
01:38prime minister.
