00:01:30The End
00:02:00In the fear-ridden years following the Great Atomic War, the Earth and its people had been reduced to a state of death and destruction.
00:02:17Those who had survived the tragedy began building anew with a hope for the future.
00:02:23But still the world remained divided.
00:02:25This time, man-made boundaries stretched beyond mere countries, forcing the isolated separation of one vast hemisphere from another.
00:02:34These two conflicting powers became known as the North Hemis and the South Hemis.
00:02:40Heading South Hemis' top security project, Red Planet, was Dr. Albert Gordon.
00:02:45Working with him was his wife, Dr. Ruth Gordon.
00:02:48They, and a carefully selected team of scientists, had labored in secret for five years on the project which hoped to put the first man on the planet Mars.
00:02:57Now, just days before the launching, the first public information releases were being given to certain journalists who had spread the story to the world if the project were a success.
00:03:08If it met with failure, neither the citizens of South Hemis nor their rivals in the Northern Hemisphere would know that it had even been tried.
00:03:17Astronaut Craig Matthews was in charge of briefing a government journalist on the details.
00:03:22Information had been leaked from North Hemis that their scientists were also trying to reach Mars, and the pressures were building in both governments to make sure that their men landed on the planet first.
00:03:34Man-carrying space stations had been circling the Earth for several years, and trips to and from the stations were not unusual.
00:03:43The first step in Project Red Planet was to transport the personnel in a normal manner to a specially equipped station.
00:03:49The second phase would be the actual launching from this artificial planet, where the spacecraft would no longer be subjected to the Earth's gravitational pull.
00:04:06Ground control will now take command for launching. Blastoff is set for O-2100. All personnel must be at their stations.
00:04:19Reconcorning space station at the far station.
00:04:21you've worked so hard we've come so far just keep the faith and courage you've always shown

00:10:30Welcome, Dr. Gordon.
00:10:32It's good to see you, Commander.
00:10:34Hello, Paul.
00:10:35Commander Daniels?
00:10:37Right this way, gentlemen.
00:10:38My men will take care of your crew.
00:10:49Hey!
00:10:49Astronaut Johnson just blasted off from Mars.
00:10:55Tell us when you get there.
00:10:57I will if I can find a telephone.
00:10:59Don't reverse the charges.
00:11:11Actually, we had the Mercury ready for you.
00:11:13Two days ahead of schedule.
00:11:14We've gained so much by assembling the ship here.
00:11:18Not just the fuel and added rocket power,
00:11:20but we've been spared the atmospheric strain against the ship.
00:11:24Which could well mean the difference.
00:11:26Without a doubt.
00:11:27Turn on spaceship Mercury.
00:11:36It's not going to be easy, you know, staying behind.
00:11:39Now look, you were the one who said this flight wasn't going to be a spaceman's holiday.
00:11:43So just consider yourself as being lucky.
00:11:45I hope you're wrong.
00:11:46I think it really means you're more important here.
00:11:48Any changes?
00:11:51Not so far.
00:11:53Here are the micronic charts.
00:11:56The solar reports continue to verify our last calculations.
00:12:00Couldn't ask for better conditions.
00:12:02How long will it last?
00:12:03An estimated five or six weeks.
00:12:06Beyond that, we'd be taking a chance.
00:12:08If all continues as planned, we shouldn't have any problems.
00:12:10None whatsoever.
00:12:13Commander, we are receiving an encoded television wave.
00:12:18You can screen it for us here.
00:12:19Yes, sir.
00:12:20It couldn't be coming from one of our ships.
00:12:25All flights have been diverted, with the project in effect.
00:12:28We'll find out soon enough.
00:12:31We request your aid.
00:12:33Identify yourself.
00:12:35And state the nature of your request.
00:12:37This is Captain Torrance and Dr. Martin aboard the ship Typhoon from North Hemis.
00:12:41We request permission to land for emergency repairs.
00:12:47I've informed our base.
00:12:48You have permission.
00:12:50We'll prepare for your ship to land.
00:12:54We'll trouble you as little as possible.
00:12:57I'll switch you to control.
00:13:03Attention.
00:13:04Landing personnel on flight deck.
00:13:07Attention.
00:13:08Stand by to receive unassisted landing.
00:13:11Repeat.
00:13:12Stand by to receive unassisted landing.
00:13:19It's not him a ship.
00:13:20Of course, you realize we must make our own repairs.
00:13:43I want you to know how much we appreciate your assistance.
00:14:03If we could work this way, North and South combined, think of it, the advantages.
00:14:12I agree with that.
00:14:14To its eventuality, Captain Torrance.
00:14:16If the attitudes of our governments could somehow be changed.
00:14:24You know how politicians work.
00:14:26Always years behind science.
00:14:28What brought you into our radiance?
00:14:30It was unintentional.
00:14:31It was unintentional, I assure you.
00:14:34We were flight testing a new synergic curve pattern.
00:14:39To lessen fuel consumption after orbit.
00:14:42Well, we've also been working on that.
00:14:45Oh, if only we were allowed to exchange data.
00:14:49They're politics instead of science again.
00:14:52Still, I believe we should try to instigate a new research exchange.
00:14:57We've all thought that.
00:14:59For a long time.
00:15:01Maybe if we took the initial step.
00:15:04Mars is our immediate project.
00:15:06Now that you know.
00:15:14Spaceship Mercury.
00:15:18Have a look at it.
00:15:21This is the culmination of all our research.
00:15:26How close are you to its completion?
00:15:30Well, the ship itself has been ready for quite some time.
00:15:35Well, we've just been waiting for the proper solar conditions.
00:15:40And your time plan?
00:15:41Yes, how soon?
00:15:42Countdown has already been set for tomorrow.
00:15:45If there are no drastic solar changes, we'll proceed with the plan.
00:15:49Any questions?
00:15:51May I ask you?
00:15:52We've already imposed enough.
00:15:53The hour is going late.
00:15:56Good luck on your flight tomorrow.
00:15:59Good night, Doctor.
00:16:01Until later.
00:16:02Good night.
00:16:03Good night.
00:16:05We had no indication of this.
00:16:16It may leave us no alternative.
00:16:18Don't take too much upon yourself.
00:16:24Yes, Doctor Martin.
00:16:26Come in.
00:16:29I hope you don't mind this intrusion.
00:16:31No, not at all.
00:16:32Be seated.
00:16:43After all these years, we can finally tell.
00:16:47A discussion I've looked forward to.
00:16:49I've long admired your writings.
00:16:51That's an honor, coming from you.
00:16:53Dr. Martin, I've observed your ship.
00:16:59Anything unusual?
00:17:01It's designed for deep probe.
00:17:04Very similar to our mercury.
00:17:06What is the typhoon's flight range?
00:17:09As one scientist to another, I'd like to discuss the entire matter.
00:17:13But you must realize that it's entirely out of the question.
00:17:16Captain, do not attempt the flight.
00:17:21Regardless of what you believe, we cannot take any unnecessary risks.
00:17:24General, I can't accept defeat.
00:17:27If your ship is malfunctioning, you'd be merely throwing your life away, and with it the entire project.
00:17:33I understand your determination, but I must order you to return to the base.
00:17:37We cannot turn back now.
00:17:38Captain Torrance, Captain Torrance.
00:17:46Then, we've reached an impasse.
00:17:50I can only express my regrets.
00:17:52No more so than I, Dr. Gordon.
00:17:55I understand.
00:17:59Dr. Gordon.
00:18:00Good night.
00:18:01Good night.
00:18:02Good night.
00:18:06It's decided.
00:18:11We leave at once.
00:18:12For North Hemisphere?
00:18:13No, for Mars.
00:18:14I think our friends will be somewhat surprised.
00:18:18Captain, that's not our main concern at this time.
00:18:21Our repairs may not hold up.
00:18:23I went over the entire system, and it proved out perfect.
00:18:27You checked it.
00:18:31Remember, my friend, what this could mean.
00:18:34I realized this situation completely.
00:18:37But do you?
00:18:58Good evening.
00:18:59Good evening, Paul.
00:19:01We came to work on our ship.
00:19:04Do you need any help?
00:19:06Not at the moment.
00:19:08Maybe tomorrow.
00:19:10Good evening, Paul.
00:19:10Good evening, Paul.

00:19:32Good evening, Paul.
00:19:33Good evening, Paul.
00:19:34All personnel clear the flight deck without delay.
00:19:46What was the reason for doing that?
00:19:48Someone might get hurt in a blast-off.
00:19:50Too late now.
00:19:53Full power.
00:19:54Full power.
00:20:04It's the North Hamish.
00:20:34Great.
00:20:49Someone's been hurt.
00:20:50There he is.
00:20:56It's Paul Clinton.
00:20:57Let's get him inside.
00:20:58Is he badly hurt?
00:21:00I can't tell.
00:21:04I can't tell.
00:21:34The flight pattern of the typhoon is directed for Mars.
00:22:00They weren't ready.
00:22:01You're so right.
00:22:05But they were obsessed.
00:22:08How are you feeling?
00:22:10Not too bad.
00:22:12Just shaking.
00:22:14I'll be fine by flight time.
00:22:17Paul.
00:22:20Doctor, you wouldn't replace me now.
00:22:24Not at this point.
00:22:26I have no choice.
00:22:29Nancy, tell him I'm all right.
00:22:32The x-rays reveal a minor concussion has resulted.
00:22:36I'm sorry, Paul.
00:22:38We can't take the chance, Paul.
00:22:44Craig will replace you.
00:22:46I'll watch you step.
00:23:01I'll watch you step.
00:23:01Over here, Nancy.
00:23:02Over here, Nancy.
00:23:18Craig, I'm so happy Dr. Gordon chose you for the first flight.
00:23:22Mars, Nancy.
00:23:23Think of it.
00:23:24I am.
00:23:25Before you know it, I'll be back with you in South Hamish.
00:23:28Craig.
00:23:33Please don't let me act like a little girl now.
00:23:35You won't, I'm sure.
00:23:40Final call.
00:23:42A medallion with our names on it.
00:23:46Pin it on the flag you place on Mars.
00:23:51I will.

00:33:10Our rocket power has failed to withstand the sun.
00:33:16What a noise.
00:33:19Has contact been made?
00:33:21It's meteors being fired from the sun's heat.
00:33:24The pole.
00:33:25Prepare yourself to resist the pole.
00:33:30We have failed.
00:33:32Our eagerness failed us.
00:33:35We needed more time for preparation.
00:33:50No more.
00:33:56Calling typhoon.
00:33:58Calling typhoon.
00:34:00This is spaceship Mercury.
00:34:02Can you hear us?
00:34:04This is radio typhoon.
00:34:06Listen carefully.
00:34:07It's too late to help us now.
00:34:09For your own safety, don't even try.
00:34:12Continue on your course.
00:34:18You see?
00:34:20They want to spare us.
00:34:21Radiation up.
00:34:22It's hopeless.
00:34:32I don't blame you.
00:34:35I wanted it too.
00:34:40Don't torture yourself.
00:34:43It's all over.
00:34:43Good morning.
00:34:51Let's go.
00:34:51Attention, all personnel, Project Red Planet, report to the main control room immediately.
00:35:15Attention, all personnel, Project Red Planet, report to the main control room immediately.
00:35:23All stations are red alert.
00:35:25I repeat, all stations are red alert.
00:35:42Mercury?
00:35:43Yes.
00:35:45What's the other object?
00:35:50We're not positive yet.
00:35:53It created a change of course.
00:35:56We're waiting now for some word.
00:36:08Speed set.

00:36:45Be careful.
00:36:47If you wait, Balance, you will...
00:36:48I checked the pressure.
00:36:51Remember.
00:36:51Yes.
00:36:53You'll have only a matter of minutes to affect the transfer.
00:36:57I'll make it.
00:37:00Just hold her steady.
00:37:01I'll do the light.
00:37:02I'll do the light.
00:37:05I'll do it in.
00:37:06I'll do it in many minutes.
00:37:11I'll do it in ma bob.
00:37:12I'll do it in.
00:37:17Come on.
00:37:17I'll do it in.
00:37:18The bark.
00:37:19I'll do it.
00:37:19Okay.
00:37:20Are you ready?
00:37:20I can do it in maamine.
00:37:21I can do it in my place.
00:37:22I can do it right there.
00:37:23I'll do it in the water BERME.
00:37:23The End
00:37:53Captain
00:37:59Pick him up
00:38:00I think we have only a few more minutes
00:38:23I think we have only a few more minutes
00:38:53It will be alright
00:39:07Just try now to relax
00:39:09Okay
00:39:09Now let's get this thing off
00:39:12Here
00:39:14Now how do you feel
00:39:16Better?
00:39:18Let me help you, Dr. Martin
00:39:22Craig, the figures were right
00:39:39Could we make it back to Earth?
00:39:42We have consumed too much of the fuel
00:39:47That's Angkor?
00:40:15But the chart
00:40:17Doesn't show the terrain
00:40:19But we have to land there
00:40:21Listen, Craig
00:40:25Yes
00:40:26Emergency fuel must come by rocket from South Hemis
00:40:29What could have gone wrong?
00:40:35Not even a signal
00:40:37Could it be ionosphere blackout?
00:40:41I doubt it
00:40:42But perhaps it we
00:40:44Sir, from Spaceship Mercury
00:40:48At last, some word
00:40:49We lost contact after receiving the message
00:40:52Our fuel supply is exhausted
00:40:56The landing on Mars is no longer possible
00:41:00We'll attempt to land on Angkor
00:41:03Which is in the Martian orbit
00:41:05If we're successful
00:41:08We'll require a fuel rocket
00:41:11The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:13The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:14The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:15The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:16The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:17The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:18The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:19The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:20The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:21The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:22The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:23The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:24The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:25The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:26The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:27The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:28The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:29The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:30The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:31The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:32The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:33The air is in the Martian orbit
00:41:34Let's go.
00:42:04Let's go.
00:42:34Let's go.
00:42:41Nothing over here.
00:42:43I've finished checking over the ship, Doctor.
00:42:46Any damage?
00:42:47Everything appears in order.
00:42:49Then we can leave if we get the fuel.
00:42:51Probably the rocket is already on the way.
00:42:52Come on, get ready.
00:42:53We'll have to set up the guidance antenna to receive the fuel rocket.
00:43:00Come in, Dr. Gordon.
00:43:02Commander, the fuel rocket launching has been completed.
00:43:07We can rescue them.
00:43:08If their guidance antenna can land the fuel rocket.
00:43:11Then the outcome is in their hands.
00:43:13Let's go.
00:43:14Let's go.
00:43:15Let's go.
00:43:16Let's go.
00:43:17Let's go.
00:43:18Let's go.
00:43:25Let's go.
00:43:27There seems to be a magnetic interference.
00:43:57Yes, but I believe the condition is diminishing with the planet's rotation around Mars.
00:44:02Look!
00:44:27The planet does absorb the sun's rays.
00:44:30Then life must exist there.
00:44:32In all probability.
00:44:34Just think.
00:44:36A new world is almost within our grasp.
00:44:41Imagine the discoveries we could make, and we almost got there.
00:44:59If you hadn't sacrificed for us, you might have attained your goal.
00:45:03A life has more value than any goal that man can strive for.
00:45:24Just relax and celebrate.
00:45:33We have two reasons.
00:45:35Craig's forthcoming marriage to the nicest girl I know, and the rocket-winging fuel.
00:45:41Success to both.
00:45:43It's strange.
00:45:52Any other time, a fuel rocket couldn't compare with Massey.
00:45:55But now, I'm not so sure.
00:45:57It will subdue the universe, but women will always subdue man.
00:46:01Now, to business.
00:46:04The guidance antenna is still directing the rocket.
00:46:09It should be in our landing range presently.
00:46:13Let's get ready to receive it.
00:46:15The angle of entry is perfect.
00:46:45Switch to automatic landing control.
00:46:48Switch to automatic landing control.
00:46:55It should indicate reversal stage.
00:46:58Does your reading check?
00:47:00Yes.
00:47:15Members of the Space Agency, our observatory reports that the pilotless fuel rocket has crashed on Angkor.
00:47:42Everything possible is being done to establish further contact with our astronauts.
00:47:47As soon as we have any word, you will be notified.
00:47:52Craig, you haven't given up hope, have you?
00:48:07No.
00:48:08We're alive.
00:48:09And that's what's important.
00:48:10You're right.
00:48:12The transmitter's strong enough.
00:48:14The signal should be received.
00:48:16It will be.
00:48:17Selenly have I seen a man more ingenious than Dr. Gordon.
00:48:18The transmitter's strong enough.
00:48:19The signal should be received.
00:48:20It will be.
00:48:21Selenly have I seen a man more ingenious than Dr. Gordon.
00:48:22The transmitter's strong enough.
00:48:23The transmitter's strong enough.
00:48:24The signal should be received.
00:48:25It will be.
00:48:26Selenly have I seen a man more ingenious than Dr. Gordon.
00:48:27The transmitter's strong enough.
00:48:28The transmitter's strong enough.
00:48:29The signal should be received.
00:48:30The transmitter's strong enough.
00:48:31The signal should be received.
00:48:32It will be.
00:48:33Selenly have I seen a man more ingenious than Dr. Gordon.
00:48:34The signal should be received.
00:48:35It will be.
00:48:36Selenly have I seen a man more ingenious than Dr. Gordon.
00:49:04Any sign at all that the interference will decrease?
00:49:07No, sir.
00:49:08Not yet.
00:49:16Have you tried every wavelength?
00:49:18Yes.
00:49:23The distance and time element.
00:49:26Everything checks out.
00:49:28I know I could make it.
00:49:29Report from flight station.
00:49:31We are still unable to make contact.
00:49:33A piloted fuel rocket is our last course of action.
00:49:36I strongly recommend Paul Clinton as the man best qualified to undertake the flight.
00:49:47This is not an easy decision for me to make.
00:49:51Piloted rocket ship still requires additional testing.
00:49:54The commander could very well be right.
00:49:58But still, if there is some way to be certain that our men are still alive, I'll leave the decision to you, Paul.
00:50:11There's no other way.
00:50:12I have to go.
00:50:13I have to go.
00:50:14I have to go.
00:50:15Give him more than us.
00:50:16Thanks man.
00:50:17No, he is.
00:50:18Hear me.
00:50:19Leave the internationally.
00:50:20Alright, let's go.
00:50:21Go it level!
00:50:22Let's go.
00:50:23How can I step up.
00:50:25Will you succeed?
00:50:26Mr. Gordon?
00:50:27Are you not sure?
00:50:29When youchlossen for the show.
00:50:31What?
00:50:32Yes, I'm sorry for you.
00:50:34I was upsur Landesregierung and mummy.
00:50:35First place is full.

01:03:19I had faith.
01:03:21You're a wonderful woman.
01:03:23I love you.
01:03:23Although the first attempt by man to reach Mars had met with failure, a greater insight
01:03:34to the real problems of mankind had been achieved.
01:03:38The way was now open for both sides to begin working together in peace.
01:03:43And out of their combined knowledge and effort, all men would come to know a better world in
01:03:47which to live, and one day perhaps, the entire universe.
