00:00Hi, I'm Craig Farnan, the house manager and butler here at Scamston Hall, North Yorkshire.
00:06From September to the end of October, we are running an upstairs-downstairs theme house tour,
00:13slightly different to our normal house tours, which are May to July.
00:18And this tour, you have a brief tour of the main stately rooms on the downstairs ground floor,
00:25and then you go downstairs to the cellar, as in upstairs-downstairs theme.
00:33So the main rooms, the main stately rooms, are very well furnished with antique furniture,
00:40a nice selection of porcelain and artwork.
00:45And then obviously to give the feel of the downstairs, the cellar where the staff would have been based back in the day.
00:53Obviously there's very little light, so you get the feel of definitely a different way of life living downstairs than what you would be upstairs.

01:14Currently we are below ground, we're in the cellar.
01:17This is the bell turret, it used to be the butler's pantry back in the day, and it's where the bells are around the room.
01:26And further on, down the corridor, there's the flower room and the water room, where the chamber pots would have been emptied.
01:34And further around from there are a few store rooms, and an exhibition of, you know, a display of fire evacuation material that would have been used back in the day.
01:46This is the South Library, where most of the books are on display, and we also have family portraits, three Gainsborough members, three portraits painted by Gainsborough and O'Romney, and a section of family photographs.
