00:25Chapter 441, The Holiday Begins It Seemed He Didn't Want To Confront Those Letters From The
00:31Parents. Even though Madame Pomfrey kept insisting that his injuries weren't fully healed, Lupin was
00:37determined to leave the hospital. He went to his office, gathered a few belongings, and left the
00:43castle, alone and quietly. Lupin didn't allow anyone to see him off. Only a large black dog
00:51accompanied him to the carriage. With the office now empty again, many students felt a sense of
00:56loss. As Harry had once said, Lupin had been one of the best defense against the dark arts professors
01:02they'd ever had. No one cared whether Lupin was a werewolf. A whole school year had passed without
01:09incident, proving he wasn't a threat and wouldn't harm anyone intentionally. But there was nothing
01:15they could do. It wasn't their decision to make. I wonder who they'll assign us next year.
01:22Cedric said, a hint of resignation in his voice. These days, it's hard to find a good defense against
01:29the dark arts professor. Maybe, a vampire. Fred suggested with a grin. A zombie wouldn't be bad,
01:37either, George added. Cho's request was simpler, as long as it wasn't a dementor, she'd accept almost
01:44anyone else. When afternoon arrived, Lupin had been right. During dinner, hundreds of owls suddenly
01:52swooped into the great hall, each one clutching an envelope. Most were ordinary letters, but several
01:58were the dreaded red howlers. The owls circled a few times, but when they couldn't find their intended
02:04recipient, they turned and flew back toward the headmaster's office. Still, the owls didn't capture
02:10much attention, because the students' exam results were also out. Grades on the report cards were now
02:17more pressing than the shrieking howlers, as they would determine whether students could look forward
02:21to a carefree holiday. Cedric had done exceptionally well in his OWLS, earning the highest marks in the
02:28school. Since morning, Professor Sprout had been spotted around the castle, occasionally chatting with
02:34Professor McGonagall or joining Professor Flittick for a celebratory drink at the three broomsticks.
02:41Fred and George had also passed respectively, not quite at Cedric's level, but enough to keep
02:46Mrs. Weasley off their backs. As they put it, they didn't need top scores, but it was important to
02:52leave some room to improve for the NEWTS. Next year's your turn, Fred said knowingly, giving Kyle a pat on
02:59the shoulder. George snickered. Fifth year is brutal. Hope you can survive it. Kyle just shrugged
03:08and handed them his report card. The neat rows of high marks made Fred and George wince, and they fell
03:14silent. Everyone laughed, including Fred and George, who could appreciate the joke at their own
03:20expense. By evening, Slytherin scores still hadn't caught up, which meant the great hall was decorated
03:27in black and yellow. The Hufflepuff table was the most animated, filled with cheers and celebration,
03:33this was their fourth consecutive House Cup win. What a shame. Mikel said with a sigh, turning to Kyle.
03:41You didn't win the special award for services to the school this year. I really thought you'd win
03:47it seven years in a row. You shouldn't think like that, Kyle replied with a smile. The special award for
03:54services to the school at Hogwarts wasn't something one could win easily, especially after earning it
03:59three years straight. If he could've postponed his vacation a bit, perhaps until Sirius's innocence was
04:06revealed, Dumbledore might've considered giving him another trophy for his efforts. But with vacation
04:12starting tomorrow, there wouldn't be time to brew a Mandrake restorative draft. The celebration of
04:17Hufflepuff's fourth consecutive championship continued well into the night, and the next morning,
04:22the Hogwarts Express departed from the station on schedule. Kyle, Kanna, and Cedric secured a large
04:29compartment, and soon Cho, Fred, and George joined them. George, the last to enter, shut the compartment
04:36door behind him with an excited grin. So, how's the plan for the Quidditch World Cup going?
04:43Everything's on track. Cedric replied with a smile. Just the other day, I ran into Professor
04:50Babbling in the corridor and asked her about an enchantment formula to make our decorations move.
04:56Professor Babbling. Cho exclaimed in surprise. You actually saw her outside of class.
05:03As Hogwarts' most elusive professor, Professor Babbling was rarely spotted around the castle,
05:09appearing only once a week for her ancient runes of Egypt class. Cho had tried several times to find
05:15her, but it had never worked out. It was pure luck, Cedric said. I ran into her on the eighth floor,
05:23looked like she was heading to the headmaster's office. He turned to the others.
05:28So, how are your preparations coming along? You bet we're ready. George said, pulling out a handful
05:36of colorful fireworks. We've improved these so that the patterns last a full ten minutes.
05:41Kanna and Cho also revealed the decorations they'd been working on, each more creative than the last.
05:48Then, all eyes turned to Kyle. Kyle's main job was making the badges, a task he was more than
05:55familiar with by now. He gave them a reassuring nod, all was in order, and they just had to wait for
06:01the Quidditch World Cup to begin. Cedric could barely hold back his excitement. I can't wait for it to
06:08start. You've got that right, Fred laughed. But we need time to make more products, so let's not rush
06:15things. Stick to the normal schedule, George agreed, grinning. The train chugged along toward
06:22King's Cross Station, and though they all wanted to use the time to make a few more items, the atmosphere
06:27was too lively to focus. Every now and then, the compartment door slid open, sometimes it was Lee
06:34Jordan, sometimes Ginny. Harry, Ron, and Hermione even stopped by once. Ever since Lupin had hinted at
06:43what he knew in the hospital wing, the trio had been trying to get Kyle to spill more details. But Kyle
06:49wasn't one to let anything slip so easily. Despite their best efforts to steer the conversation, he
06:55remained tight-lipped. After a while, Harry, Ron, and Hermione left the compartment, looking dejected and none
07:02the wiser. They'd barely stepped out when Neville appeared at the door. Having written the same
07:09enchantment wrong three times, Fred finally stowed the fireworks and pulled out exploding snap and
07:14wizard chess. Stop mucking about in the corridor and get back here. Percy's voice echoed outside,
07:21followed by the scuffling of feet. Percy won't be head boy by the time the train arrives, Fred smirked as
07:28he shuffled his cards. Probably just trying to have one last hurrah. Percy's graduated, George said,
07:35his excitement barely hidden. I can't imagine how much more fun school will be without him.
07:42For the first time, Fred added with a wink, we're actually looking forward to the start of term on
07:46the holiday train. With chatter and laughter filling the compartment, the train finally pulled into King's
07:53Cross. Hogwarts. I am such a model wizard. Chapter 442, Treasure Hunt Many ancient wizards were drawn to
08:02the countryside of Wiltshire. Once, it was a bustling place, where grand mansions hosted lavish gatherings
08:09nearly every night. Wiltshire was also the area with the highest concentration of wizards. But twelve years
08:16ago, everything changed almost overnight. Nearly half of the wizards were forced to relocate, some even
08:23becoming neighbors with dementors, leaving behind vast, vacant estates. Silence replaced the liveliness.
08:31Still, the witches and wizards who remained didn't mind. If anything, it allowed them to expand their own
08:38homes without restrictions. The Lestrange Mansion stands on a hillside to the north. Several windows are
08:45shattered, roof tiles are missing, and the grand front door and walls are entangled in mysterious vines.
08:52From the outside, it looks almost as eerie as Hogsmeade's Shrieking Shack. More than a decade ago,
08:58however, this was the grandest structure for miles, and the Lestrange family had been one of the most
09:03influential in the wizarding world. But since its owners were sent to Azkaban, the mansion has fallen
09:09into ruin, leaving it in its current state. No wizard in the area wants to come near, much less lend a hand
09:16to maintain it. At night, the hillside falls into an eerie silence, disturbed only by the occasional
09:22sound of insects. Under the moonlight, two figures, one large, one small, step out from the shadows and
09:30pause before the house. Sirius, are you sure this is the Lestrange ancestral home? Kyle surveyed the
09:38decaying building in front of him, which was barely in better shape than the Shrieking Shack.
09:43If we're talking about the same Lestrange family, then yes, Sirius replied.
09:48This place is in shambles, Kyle muttered, frowning. Did they ever think of protecting it with a
09:54Fidelius charm? No, they didn't need to, said Sirius. Twelve years ago, who would have dared touch
10:02it? That woman. Bella. She was you-know-who's favorite. Plenty of wizards were eager to curry
10:10favor with her, and since you-know-who trusted her, the Death Eaters nearly treated this place
10:15as their headquarters. A Fidelius charm would have been too much of an inconvenience.
10:20Sirius glanced at Kyle. The irony is, it was those same people who left it in this state after she
10:27was locked up in Azkaban. He sighed, casting a sidelong look at Kyle. Although I don't know why
10:34you suddenly wanted to come here, I'm certain that anything of value was looted long ago.
10:39You're likely on a wasted trip today. We'll see about that, Kyle said, pressing on.
10:45Sirius gave a resigned shrug and followed. The front door's lock had long been useless,
10:52and Kyle easily entered after pulling aside some of the tangled vines.
10:57The interior was in even worse condition. Nearly every piece of furniture was broken,
11:02the largest object being a table with one missing leg. As Sirius had warned, there was little of value
11:08left to be found, even the decorative carvings from the walls and pillars had been stripped away.
11:13I'd rather not set foot in here at all if I can avoid it, Sirius muttered, frowning.
11:20What exactly are you looking for? If it's galleons you want, just say the word.
11:26I've got plenty of those. That's yours, I don't want any.
11:31Kyle reached into his pocket and pulled out a Niffler.
11:34Find it, then. Where's the underground storeroom here?
11:38The Niffler scanned the area, then began waddling purposefully in one direction,
11:43scooping up shards of glass, rusty nails, bits of porcelain, and other debris into its belly pouch
11:49along the way like a furry vacuum. It finally stopped at a corner of the room where a statue
11:54once stood, now reduced to just a base with an open hole beneath it, suggesting someone had been
12:00here before. Kyle picked up the Niffler, scratched its belly, and tossed out the collected junk with a
12:06look of mild disgust. The little creature let out an indignant squeak, but Kyle ignored it,
12:12held up an oil lamp, and ventured into the underground storeroom alone. As expected,
12:17the place had been looted thoroughly, but fortunately, what Kyle needed was still there.
12:23On the wall of the small storeroom hung a faded painting, frame missing, with only the faint outline
12:28of the Lestrange mansion in the background. The figures once in the painting had vanished.
12:33Must have been one of the old Lestranges, though I can't recall his name, Sirius said, having followed
12:39Kyle in. But Kyle, don't tell me you came here for this. These kinds of magical portraits are only worth
12:47anything to the Lestrange family. It's just rubbish to everyone else. Yes, but it's not.
12:55Kyle trailed off. Sirius looked at him, confused, until he saw Kyle toss the painting aside and produce a
13:02hammer from somewhere, then start striking the wall behind it. Dong, dong, dong. The wall,
13:09surprisingly fragile, crumbled quickly to reveal dark grey stone beneath, but Kyle kept hammering
13:15away. The dull thuds of each strike made Sirius even more bewildered, wondering if Kyle intended
13:21to demolish the place entirely. But just as he was about to speak, the wall gave way further.
13:27To Sirius's amazement, as Kyle broke down more of the wall, the grey stone began to warp, shrinking
13:34and compressing until it transformed into a fist-sized, dark gold box.
13:40Transfiguration.
13:41I thought there might be a hidden compartment, Kyle said. He put on his dragon hide gloves and gave the
13:48box a gentle shake, hearing a distinct clinking sound from within. The key he was after was apparently
13:54hidden inside. But the box itself posed a problem, there were no seams, no visible hinges or locks,
14:01no keyhole to be found. Watching, Sirius blinked, stammering in shock, th this is.
14:09It's some sort of magical container, used to store valuable items, Kyle explained. But it's no simple
14:15task to open it. I know that. Sirius replied, scratching his head.
14:21But how did you even know this was hidden behind the wall? I mean, this is the Lestrange ancestral
14:28home. Have you been here before? But that doesn't make any sense, you were barely a year old when
14:34that woman, Bellatrix, was captured by the Aurors. No, I was a little over two, Kyle corrected.
14:42That's not the point. Sirius groaned, his head spinning. How in Merlin's name did you know where
14:49this thing was? Someone told me, of course, Kyle laughed. I paid a little to get the information
14:56from a very reliable source. An insider. Who could it be? Trust me, Kyle said with a smirk,
15:05you don't want to know their name. With that, Kyle stowed the box in his bag and took one last
15:10look around, ensuring he hadn't overlooked anything else before heading out of the storeroom
15:15with the oil lamp. It was frustrating not being able to freely use magic here.
15:21Hogwarts. I am such a model wizard.
15:25Chapter 443, 12, Grimauld Place
15:28After retrieving what he needed, Kyle didn't linger and left immediately.
15:32But rather than returning to St. Catchpole Village, he accepted Sirius's invitation to London.
15:39Late that night, the two arrived at Grimauld Place, not far from King's Cross.
15:44Kyle recalled what Sirius had just told him about 12, Grimauld Place when, suddenly,
15:49a battered door materialized out of nowhere between numbers 11 and 13.
15:53This was the Black Family Mansion, now Sirius's residence, protected by the Fidelius Charm.
16:01Despite Fudge's assurances that all dementors and aurors pursuing him had been withdrawn,
16:06Sirius felt safer here, under the Fidelius Charm's protection.
16:10He drew his wand and tapped it against the door.
16:14Kyle heard a loud, metallic clanging sound as if chains were being unlocked,
16:18followed by the creaking of the old door swinging open.
16:21Come on in, said Sirius.
16:24Kyle stepped over the threshold and entered a pitch-black hallway.
16:28The air was thick with dampness and an overwhelming odor of decay.
16:33No one's lived here for ages, came Sirius's voice from behind him.
16:37I'll clean it up before Harry arrives.
16:41Kyle heard a rustling, and then the row of ancient gas lamps along the walls flickered to life,
16:46casting a shaky, dim glow over the hallway.
16:48The light revealed peeling wallpaper and a carpet with frayed threads.
16:54Kyle touched a nearby table and instantly felt a thick layer of dust clinging to his fingers.
17:00It's going to be quite the job to clean up.
17:03A lot of things will need replacing, he remarked.
17:06Take your time, said Sirius.
17:08I'd hope to bring Harry here in a few days, but Dumbledore says that Ravel need a full month's worth of Mandrake restorative draughts to recover.
17:18Then there's the trial.
17:20So, it won't be this holiday, it'll have to wait until Christmas.
17:24Plenty of time.
17:25At that moment, Lupin came striding down the hall to greet them, his footsteps echoing.
17:32Oh, Kyle, it's so good to see you, he said warmly.
17:36You too, Professor, Kyle replied.
17:39I'm not a professor anymore.
17:42Just call me Lupin, or Mooney, if you like.
17:45Kyle was about to respond when he suddenly noticed a pair of large, tennis-ball-sized eyes staring at him from near a cabinet behind Lupin.
17:54It was a house elf, and he looked ancient, with sagging skin, a bald head, large bat-like ears with tufts of white fur, and a nose that resembled a pig's snout.
18:04Compared to this one, even Dobby could be considered a handsome house elf.
18:09That's creature, a house elf, said Sirius, with a hint of distaste.
18:14He's lost it, though, completely useless.
18:18If he hadn't gone mad, the house wouldn't be in this state.
18:22Creature, realizing he'd been spotted, gave a low bow.
18:26Greetings, master, he muttered, then continued in a voice just loud enough to hear, smells of sewer and crime.
18:33The prodigal son has returned.
18:36Brought a cub and a werewolf into his mistress's house.
18:40Oh, the shame.
18:41Poor creature, what's he to do?
18:44Get out of here, creature.
18:47Sirius snapped impatiently.
18:49Yes, master, creature replied, bowing again and shuffling out of the room.
18:55But not before muttering, ungrateful brat, broke his poor mother's heart, but creature will still do as he's told.
19:02Sorry about that, Kyle, Sirius said, shaking with anger.
19:07He's been alone too long, listening to my mother's portrait and losing his grip on reality.
19:12Oh, it's fine, Kyle replied, waving off creature's exit with a casual hand, showing he didn't mind.
19:20Come on, I'll take you somewhere quieter, Sirius said.
19:24Just be careful not to make too much noise or, bang.
19:28Before Sirius could finish, he tripped over an umbrella stand and nearly went sprawling, but Kyle caught him just in time.
19:36Oh, no.
19:38Lupin muttered, covering his face in dread.
19:41A second later, a horrible, cursing scream filled the room.
19:46Two moth-eaten velvet curtains on the wall suddenly flew open, revealing a portrait of an old woman in a hat, who was shrieking hysterically.
19:54Brute, slut, good for nothing, disgrace to the family.
19:59Get out.
20:00How dare you defile my ancestral home.
20:03The old woman's shrill curses seemed intent on piercing their eardrums.
20:08Shut up.
20:10Sirius was the first to react.
20:12Covering his ears, he hurried over and grabbed the curtains on either side of the portrait.
20:17The old woman's face went pale at the sight of him, but before she could spit out another insult, Sirius yanked the curtains closed with a sharp tug, silencing her mid-scream.
20:28A tense silence followed.
20:30Well, I see you've already met my mother, Sirius said with a wry smile.
20:34She hated me for being sorted into Gryffindor, and after I ran away at sixteen, her dislike turned to pure loathing.
20:43But as long as you keep quiet when you pass, she won't know anyone's here.
20:47I didn't expect it to be so, lively in here, Kyle said with a grin.
20:53Believe me, I don't either, Sirius muttered.
20:56Let's go, quickly, before she starts up again.
20:59Sirius led them through the hallway to a cleaner, more spacious room with a magnificent round table at its center.
21:07It looked like a former drawing room.
21:10If you want to study that box, this is the place, Sirius said.
21:13With the Fidelius charm on the house, you're free to use magic without the ministry tracking it.
21:20All they'll detect is magic coming from Grimauld Place, but they won't find anyone here.
21:26A box.
21:27What box?
21:29Lupin asked, looking puzzled.
21:32Don't ask me, Mooney, Sirius said, rubbing his forehead.
21:36Honestly, I'm more confused than you.
21:39Can you believe it?
21:40Kyle waltzed into the Lestrange mansion and found a hidden box like he was just rummaging around his own kitchen.
21:47Lupin looked at him, speechless, but his eyes widened as Kyle placed the small box on the table.
21:54Is that something from the Lestrange family?
21:56He asked.
21:58It was, Kyle said, but didn't elaborate further.
22:02Instead, he looked at the two men and said,
22:04If you choose to stay, you'll need to promise to keep everything here a secret.
22:08Whatever happens, don't tell anyone.
22:12Not even Professor Dumbledore.
22:14Of course, Sirius nodded immediately, the corners of his mouth curling into a smile.
22:20Although he still had many questions, it didn't matter.
22:24Watching Kyle in this moment gave him a nostalgic feeling, as if he'd travel back to his student days.
22:30This was how the Marauders had done things too, keeping secrets, pulling pranks, creating the Marauders' map without anyone else knowing.
22:39The feeling was strangely comforting.
22:42Lupin hesitated, but then nodded as well.
22:45Good, Kyle said with a grin.
22:48Remember, keep it a secret.
22:50Or else I'll have to beat up Harry, you know he doesn't stand a chance against me.
22:55Hogwarts.
22:56I am such a model wizard.
23:00Chapter 444, the key Sirius Black had always thought Kyle was a rare, exemplary student.
23:06His grades were top-notch, his abilities surpassed most of his peers, and he knew when to be flexible, not bound by rigid rules and regulations.
23:15Best of all, Snape hated him, a sure sign, in Sirius's mind, that Kyle was a genuinely good kid.
23:22Privately, he and Lupin had even speculated that one day, Kyle might become the headmaster of Hogwarts.
23:30But by the following night, Sirius had started to question this idea.
23:35Between Kyle's earlier threat to, beat up Harry, and his current, seemingly effortless use of the blasting curse, Sirius began to reconsider his impression of, good students.
23:44For nearly half an hour, the drawing room had sounded like a battlefield, with explosions and cracks echoing non-stop.
23:53In the midst of all this noise, Sirius noticed Kyle using a curse that looked disturbingly familiar.
24:00Sirius stared at the magnificent round table as it split cleanly down the middle, the edges so perfectly smooth they looked intentional.
24:07He'd seen that particular spell in action before, back in his days of dueling with Death Eaters.
24:13Snape had used it on him more than once.
24:16But how did Kyle know it?
24:18He couldn't have learned it from Snape, or could he?
24:22Sirius shook his head, dismissing the thought.
24:25Both Harry and Lupin had confirmed that Snape disliked Kyle intensely.
24:30And that was beyond question.
24:31After thinking it over without finding an answer, Sirius finally gave up.
24:37Maybe Kyle had found the spell in a book in the library, just as Snape must have at some point.
24:43Meanwhile, after casting spell after spell, Kyle let out a tired sigh, lowered his wand, and dropped into a nearby chair.
24:51The box was proving far tougher than he'd expected.
24:54Neither the blasting curse nor the slicing charm had left any marks, and even Sectumsempra had only managed to make a faint white scratch.
25:03While Kyle rested, Lupin and Sirius tried their hands at opening the box, but they had no better luck.
25:10The barrage of spells had attracted creatures' attention, and the house elf pushed open the door to the destroyed room.
25:16His eyes were wide with fury and horror as he took in the wreckage, muttering words like,
25:21Spoiled brat, scum, and, Bastard, under his breath.
25:26Sirius, already frustrated, turned and snapped, Shut up.
25:31Creature fell silent for a moment, but barely a minute later, he was muttering again, casting Sirius a poisonous look.
25:38The master's trying to destroy this place.
25:41If my mistress knew, oh, how she'd weep.
25:44And this disgrace of a son is even working with outsiders to pry open Miss Bella's, Creature stopped abruptly, realizing he'd said too much.
25:54But Sirius, Kyle, and Lupin had all caught his last words and turned toward him.
26:00Creature.
26:01Sirius demanded.
26:03Do you know what this box is?
26:06You've seen it before, haven't you?
26:08Creature doesn't know, the house elf squeaked, his ears twitching defensively.
26:12Creature would never betray Miss Bella.
26:16Tell me.
26:17That's an order.
26:19Sirius bellowed.
26:21Creature's expression twisted with anger, but bound by Sirius's command, he finally bowed and replied in a low, reluctant voice,
26:29This is the box the old master left for Miss Bella.
26:32Only the ancient and noble black bloodline can open it.
26:36Sirius's eyes narrowed in thought.
26:38Creature usually referred to his mother as, mistress, which meant the bold master, had to be his grandfather.
26:46But none of that mattered now.
26:48Finally, he understood how to open the box.
26:52Incarcerous.
26:53Just as the thought crossed Sirius's mind, a spell flew past his ear and wrapped Creature in ropes before the elf could headbutt the door.
27:02Creature had probably planned to punish himself for revealing the secret, but now he was firmly bound, unable to move.
27:09I order you to stop trying those ridiculous self-punishments, Creature, Sirius said, frowning.
27:16The elf stilled, though he continued muttering under his breath.
27:20Sirius ignored him and turned back to the others, his excitement mounting.
27:25Right, back to what we were doing.
27:26Without hesitation, he made a quick slash across his palm with his wand, letting a few drops of bright red blood fall onto the box.
27:36Instantly, the blood droplet spread along the grooves of the box, forming an intricate, glowing red pattern.
27:43Click.
27:44With a sharp sound, the box split open, revealing a peculiar, golden key.
27:50Sirius recognized it immediately as a key to a Gringotts vault, he'd once held one almost identical to it.
27:57We'll split it when we get there.
27:59Kyle said quickly, grabbing the key and tossing the now empty box to Sirius.
28:05Since it's a black family heirloom, I'll leave it with you.
28:08It might have a few scratches now, but it's still good as new.
28:13Wait.
28:14Sirius began, but Kyle had already pocketed the key.
28:18I'm not after the Lestrange family vault's galleons, Kyle added, shrugging off Sirius' mild protests.
28:25Sirius' brow furrowed.
28:28But let me warn you, the goblins at Gringotts won't let anyone into the vault with just a key.
28:34They're too greedy for that.
28:36Kyle grinned.
28:37But that's why you're here, isn't it?
28:40Once you're cleared of all charges, you'll be able to go to Gringotts.
28:45You're Bellatrix's cousin, after all, and family to the Lestranges.
28:48Sirius shook his head.
28:52It's not that simple.
28:54The Lestrange vault is likely among the highest ranking in Gringotts.
28:58To transfer anything from a vault like that, Bellatrix or Rodolfius themselves would have
29:03to be present.
29:05Unless, of course, they're both dead.
29:08No, I think you've misunderstood, Kyle said, his expression firm.
29:13The gold isn't my priority.
29:16There's a particular object in her vault that I'm after.
29:19An object?
29:21Sirius looked puzzled, but intrigued.
29:24Well, if it's just one item, that shouldn't be too difficult.
29:28What do you need?
29:30The deed to their property on Diagon Alley, maybe?
29:34That alone's worth tens of thousands of galleons.
29:37Kyle shook his head, resolute.
29:40No.
29:41Sirius looked even more bewildered.
29:44He couldn't think of anything more valuable than the property itself.
29:48No.
29:50It's, an extremely old artifact, Kyle said, clearly trying to keep his mind off any tempting
29:55thoughts of galleons.
29:57I can't say for certain, but I believe it's in her vault.
30:01Though Sirius didn't know exactly what Kyle was after, he nodded without further questions.
30:07Hogwarts.
30:09I am such a model wizard.
30:11Chapter 445, the locket in the glass case watching the thought of tens of thousands of
30:17galleons slip away gave Kyle a pang of regret.
30:20But he had to let it go, as valuable as the gold was, the Hufflepuff cup was far more important.
30:27Like Ravenclaw's diadem, the cup was one of the few relics left by the founders of Hogwarts.
30:32And after Voldemort, in his twisted extravagance, had turned it into a horcrux, he'd entrusted
30:39it to Bellatrix for safekeeping.
30:41Unlike Lucius Malfoy, who had stored Voldemort's belongings in his own manner, Bellatrix had
30:46opted to hide the cup in the Lestrange vault at Gringotts, which she considered impenetrable.
30:51But speaking of horcruxes.
30:54Apart from the elusive Hufflepuff cup, there was another horcrux, even closer, practically
30:59within arm's reach.
31:01This was the real reason Kyle had agreed to accompany Sirius to 12, Grimauld Place.
31:06As for the box, it had been an unexpected bonus.
31:11Kyle hadn't anticipated that the key to unlocking it would be Sirius himself.
31:16His original plan was to try some standard unlocking spells and, if those failed, consider
31:22using Fiendfire or ask Nicholas Flamel for help during his next visit to Devon.
31:27His thoughts drifted back to the present, and he glanced at Creature, who was still bound
31:31on the floor.
31:32With a flick of his wand, Kyle lifted the binding spell.
31:37He then turned to Sirius.
31:39Sirius, would you mind if I took a look around?
31:43Creature, who had just been about to slink away, froze in horror at Kyle's request.
31:48The master's son has brought a young demon.
31:51Creature has never seen such an evil wizard.
31:55Blowing up the sitting room wasn't enough, now he wants to destroy something else too.
31:59Creature will defend the mistress's house.
32:03No one will ruin it.
32:05Shut up, Creature.
32:07Sirius snapped.
32:09No one's planning to destroy this place, and if anyone does, it'll definitely be me.
32:15He turned to Kyle, shrugging.
32:18There's not much to see here, but feel free to look around.
32:21Just be careful not to wake the portraits.
32:25And avoid the second basement and the area above the third floor if you're alone.
32:30Lupin and I haven't finished checking those areas for safety.
32:34And don't open the locked cabinet in the living room, Lupin added with a hint of caution.
32:39If I'm right, there's a Bogut in there.
32:42He hadn't forgotten Kyle's over-the-top approach to Bogut's last time and had no desire to see
32:47the place actually destroyed.
32:48Kyle smiled, amused.
32:52Last time had been an overreaction on his part, but he was more prepared now.
32:57Bogut's wouldn't trouble him.
32:59Without further comment, he raised his wand and began to restore the damaged drawing room.
33:05Sirius and Lupin pitched in, and together they quickly returned the room to its previous state.
33:11Creature finally stopped his muttering, though he continued to skulk nearby, watching their
33:15every move.
33:18I was going to ask, Kyle said to Sirius as they reached the corridor, did you get a new
33:22wand?
33:23Oh, this?
33:25Sirius held up the wand, which was inlaid with gold and precious stones.
33:30Of course not.
33:32I'm still wanted, so I can't exactly stroll into Diagon Alley to buy one.
33:37This is an old wand I found in the storage cupboard.
33:39It's not the best, but it's all I've got for now.
33:44Accompanied by Sirius, Kyle explored the foyer and then several rooms on the second floor.
33:49The lighting was so dim that their shadows stretched long and dark on the walls, nearly
33:54blending into the gloom.
33:56The place had the atmosphere of an old, cursed wizard's lair.
33:59When I finally clean this house, the first thing I'll do is get rid of all these awful
34:05lights, Sirius muttered, frowning.
34:08He despised the darkness, it brought back memories of Dementors lurking in the shadows,
34:13striking without warning.
34:15A too dark room only triggered those unsettling memories.
34:19At his remark, Creature, who was trailing them, started grumbling under his breath again.
34:25But this time, Sirius ignored him.
34:27Whatever Creature thought, Sirius was determined to replace every last one of those old lamps
34:33before Harry moved in.
34:35He wanted the house brightly lit, free from any lurking shadows.
34:40After a while, they arrived in the second floor living room, a spacious area, much larger
34:45than the previous sitting room.
34:47Kyle spotted the cabinet loop and had warned him about, standing beside an armchair.
34:52It looked like it once held important documents but now housed a quivering boggett.
34:56Not particularly interested, Kyle gave it a quick glance before moving on to the larger cabinet
35:02on the opposite wall, this one with glass doors and filled with a variety of odd, dark
35:07objects.
35:08If I ever clear out this house, that's the first thing I'll toss out, Sirius said with
35:13obvious disgust, nodding at the cabinet.
35:16It's full of dark artifacts.
35:18My family collected them like priceless treasures.
35:23Kyle scanned the items in the glass cabinet.
35:26In the center lay a dusty box holding an order of Merlin badge.
35:30He had one himself, but this badge had a green ribbon, marking it as first class, the highest
35:36level, awarded to Sirius's grandfather for, services to the Ministry of Magic.
35:42Which just means they paid him a ridiculous amount of gold, Sirius scoffed.
35:46There was a dark wizard causing havoc at the time, and they needed funds to recruit more
35:51auras.
35:52To exchange for a first class order.
35:56Kyle murmured.
35:57That must have been a massive sum.
35:59I'm not sure of the exact amount, Sirius replied.
36:04But rumor has it he used half the gold in the family vault, thinking it would raise the
36:08black family's status and honor.
36:11Half the gold, that's substantial.
36:14Kyle muttered in surprise, continuing to examine the contents.
36:18Beside the badge box sat a silver snuff box.
36:22Kyle prodded it with his wand, and the snuff box immediately split open, revealing a toothy
36:27mouth that tried to snap at the wand while spewing a foul gray-brown powder.
36:32The powder resembled a prank item from Zonko's joke shop, it stuck to the skin, forming an
36:37unsightly crust, though it was harmless and easily removed with a simple cleaning charm.
36:42On a nearby shelf, he noticed a silver, spider-like contraption with tweezers for legs, which tried
36:48to scuttle away as soon as the cabinet door opened.
36:52Sirius took one look at it and smashed it flat with a heavy book.
36:56A music box adorned with twisted, ghostly shapes was best left untouched, Kyle decided.
37:02There was also a set of antique seals, which, thankfully, seemed normal enough.
37:08Then, Kyle's heart skipped a beat.
37:12In an inconspicuous corner of the cabinet, nestled among the clutter, was a golden locket.
