Record field poised to take on 2025 Waterside Half Marathon on Sunday
Transcript
00:00We're just days away from the biggest ever waterside half marathon with almost 4,000
00:11runners on gala right here at the Everton Square start line on Sunday. To accommodate and manage
00:16our biggest ever field and create space for everyone out on the course, this year's race
00:20will be split into two waves. Wave 1 for runners who expect to complete the course in less than
00:25two hours and wave 2 for those who will need two to three hours to complete the course. Wave 1 will
00:31gather here the clock tower from 9.15am with the championship runners at the front and wave 2
00:36will gather at the riverside end of Everton Square in an area highlighted by our sponsor EY's floating
00:41yellow cube. Wave 1 will set off from the clock tower at 9.30am sharp and as soon as they depart,
00:48wave 2 will be brought up by our race marshal to the clock tower to begin their race a few minutes later.
00:53Individual times are calculated by the chip on your unique race number meaning the time that it takes
00:59for you to complete the course is not affected by what wave you're in. Your chip only activates once
01:04you pass the start line. Both waves will feature a two hour pacer so if you or your relay team expect
01:10to finish in two hours or less you can begin to gather at the race start from around 9.15am. Place
01:16yourself in the field in the position you expect to finish in using the flagged 1 hour 30, 1 hour 45 and 2 hour
01:22pacers as your markers. Those who expect to finish in over two hours can gather in the wave 2 warm area
01:27in Everton Square and wave 2 will also feature 2 hour, 2 hour 15 and 2 hour 30 pacers if that's
01:35your target time. The new wave start is in keeping with athletics events of this scale across the world
01:40and will allow us to continue our ambition to make this iconic event bigger and better every year.
01:45Thanks very much for listening and we'll see you all on Sunday morning.
