Inside £4m transformation of Omniplex cinema Sunderland with boutique offering, sofa beds and more

00:00Paul today marks the completion of the £4 million transformation of the Sunderland Omniplex.

00:06What can we expect from the new additions? Yeah so we're delighted. So from this Friday we'll

00:12have the avenue opened up as well as our 12 screen fully recliner multiplex and we'll also

00:19have our sofa bed screen downstairs as well. So the avenue is five kind of small intimate

00:26boutique screens. There's going to be a full food to seat offer, there'll be a bar up here,

00:30you can get a drink beforehand or get some food beforehand or afterwards or get food delivered

00:35to your seat in the avenue. We obviously have our Joe's food truck downstairs as well, you can get

00:41pizza by the slice or if you want a pint of beer or your traditional cinema snacks you can get that

00:48all downstairs and attend one of our recliner auditoriums as well. And it's been a rolling

00:54refurbishment, what's the reaction been like so far? Yeah so we've been at this for the last six

00:58months, the reaction has been amazing and everyone's really enjoying it. It's been an ongoing thing so

01:07I appreciate everyone's patience during this time and just delighted to finally kind of get it finished

01:14and just give it a bit of a launch and give it a bit of boost and let everyone know that we're

01:18fully finished now and you can come and enjoy the fully refurbished Sunderland Omniplex.

01:23And this is the only Omniplex in the northeast, what appealed to you about the Sunderland site?

01:27Yeah we visited the Sunderland site, I probably saw it maybe 18 months ago and loved the location

01:36and we can see that the council are investing heavily in the town centre as well so that all

01:43kind of appealed to us and we just thought it had great potential and so we're delighted how

01:48everything's turned out. And yeah so we're really happy.
