00:0050 years ago, going to college was something that everyone had to do to stand out to their employer.
00:04And that made sense because according to educationdata.org,
00:08in 1971, there were 25,000 students that graduated with an associate's degree
00:13and 840,000 with a bachelor's degree.
00:16Fast forward to 2020 though, and those numbers have increased to
00:201 million people that graduated with an associate's degree
00:23and 2 million people with a bachelor's degree.
00:26In fact, the number of people graduating college has increased at the rate of 2.8% per year for the last 10 years.
00:34And that means it's a lot easier to get lost in the shuffle because having a degree is not as special as it once used to be,
00:39which is why now some people are calling it quits.
00:42And that's also because in 2008, student loan debt totaled $620 billion.
00:48But today, that number has almost tripled to $1.75 trillion.
00:53Over 40 million Americans now owe money for their education.
