Shadow housing secretary Sir James Cleverly says Angela Rayner has "serious questions to answer" over her stamp duty admission. While stressing he is not alleging illegality, he said the housing secretary went to "extraordinary lengths" to minimise tax while criticising others for the same behaviour, calling the situation "hypocritical". 00:00Angela Rayner has serious questions to answer.
00:03Now, we, I, have never suggested she has done anything illegal,
00:08but this reeks of hypocrisy.
00:12The Labour Party have been going after people
00:15through every single tax that they think they can get away with.
00:18Again, today, we're going to test Labour's commitment
00:21because we've heard that they're going to go after family homes
00:24with regard to tax, and we want them to rule that out.
00:27And what we appear to have seen from Angela Rayner
00:29is she's gone through extraordinary lengths
00:32to minimise the amount of tax she's paying on property.
00:36Completely legally, and I don't, and the Conservative Party,
00:39don't think that people should pay more tax than they should.
00:43But her party, and indeed she personally,
00:46has criticised people for doing exactly what she appears to have done,
00:50and that's just hypocritical.
