00:01:52Day number five, Championship Sunday.
00:01:53We've made it all the way to the final men's match.
00:01:56And this should be a good one.
00:01:58These two teams know each other very, very well.
00:02:01It is the gold medalists from the Tokyo Olympic Games.
00:02:04Anders Moll and Christian Sorum from Norway taking on the Polish team of Bartosz Wosiak and Mihael Brill.
00:02:11Who, Travis, we've talked about a lot.
00:02:14Have been playing some of their best volleyball to date, this Polish team.
00:02:18And you broke out maybe the best fun fact to date.
00:02:20The bridges thing.
00:02:22That blew my mind.
00:02:23But you are 100% spot on.
00:02:27This is the best we've seen from Bartosz Wosiak and Mihael Brill.
00:02:30For sure the whole season.
00:02:32And perhaps dating back to their last gold medal here in Hamburg a couple years ago when they came out of the qualifiers.
00:02:39That was the year in which they won four gold medals.
00:02:41And I think that that set the expectation that it would be Wosiak and Brill.
00:02:46It would be Anders and Christian.
00:02:48It would be Sweden just vying for gold medals every time.
00:02:52We just haven't seen it.
00:02:53We haven't seen this sustained level of play from Wosiak and Brill.
00:02:57They've made a number of semifinals.
00:02:59But this is the first time we've seen them push through into the finals since the Vienna Elite a year ago where they met, guess who?
00:03:05Anders Moll and Christian Sorum.
00:03:07But the way that Wosiak has been playing, best I've seen from him in a long time.
00:03:10When he's at this level, he's the top five defender in the world.
00:03:13No doubt about it.
00:03:14Yeah, it's exciting for me because I've always enjoyed.
00:03:17There he is, Bartosz Wosiak, watching Wosiak play.
00:03:20I think he's an unbelievable athlete.
00:03:22He's got a variety of options on attack.
00:03:26But it's his serving that has been a real big weapon for him this weekend.
00:03:30You'll see him hit a jump serve from the corner to the cross court.
00:03:34He'll go up the scene.
00:03:34He'll go down the line.
00:03:35Then he'll bring out the same toss and hit a hybrid with the same pace.
00:03:39He'll drop a short cutty to the cross court.
00:03:41It's truly unbelievable what he's able to do.
00:03:42As we see some of the numbers here, four elite medals for Norway, 25 blocks from Moll.
00:03:47It's second in the tournament, 81% side out from Christian Sorum this year, or this tournament,
00:03:53excuse me, which is an outstanding, outstanding number.
00:03:56As for Poland, Wosiak first in total kills, or should be, first total digs for Wosiak.
00:04:02Bril's first in total kills for Bril.
00:04:04That's actually total points scored for Bril, including everything third elite semifinal this year.
00:04:10The problem is the fun fact for Poland.
00:04:12They have a mountain to climb because they have played this team 10 times, and they have not won once.
00:04:18They have gone three sets three times.
00:04:20And so, some of that stellar play that Poland has had in this tournament,
00:04:25can it propel them to something that they have never done before,
00:04:28get a victory here against the Bally Vikings in the most important match of the tournament?
00:04:33Well, they've already done something that they've never done before.
00:04:35They beat a team they've never beat before in the quarterfinals with David Oman and Jonathan Helwig,
00:04:39and they could have let that one go.
00:04:41It was that first set, 21-15.
00:04:43Sweden could have just Sweden'd him, and instead they put the foot down,
00:04:46the pushback, the counterpunch, took that one in three,
00:04:50and so I'm not ruling out the first win for Poland.
00:04:54I am not bold enough to say it's going to happen
00:04:57because the way that Anders and Christian are playing,
00:05:00and Anders said it when I chatted with them after they won that semifinal,
00:05:03he said, we're just, we're on a good wave right now.
00:05:06Back-to-back wins, European championships in Montreal,
00:05:09and they have maintained that top form.
00:05:13Yeah, you said it, top form.
00:05:16And the crown's rightfully back on the Volley Vikings' head
00:05:21as we just had the Volley Vikings' Viking clap pre-gay.
00:05:24You don't see that very often, let alone not in Norway.
00:05:28But they have impacted the world on the volleyball stage like no other team has,
00:05:32and everyone is a fan of the Volley Vikings,
00:05:36and they're two true representations of our sport,
00:05:39and we're fortunate to have them here still playing,
00:05:42and they're not going anywhere anytime soon.
00:05:43Christian's just 29 years young, Anders is 28,
00:05:46and so as you know about beach longevity,
00:05:49lots of time left to go,
00:05:51and they're looking to go back-to-back,
00:05:54get some gold medals here in Hamburg to cap off the Montreal gold medal,
00:05:59but they're going to have to go through those two gentlemen right there.

00:06:07Get that smile from one of the most stoic competitors on the beach pro tour,
00:06:12and stoic in sort of that introverted way.
00:06:13He's not a bad move.
00:06:14He's just not a very emotional person.

00:06:19And so to see him, he's been playing light this week,
00:06:22and it's been a joy to see.
00:06:24And we mentioned in the women's bronze medal match that tournaments are better
00:06:28when Anna Patricia and Buda are in them.
00:06:30Tournaments are better.
00:06:31Beach ball ball is better when Poland is playing at this level.
00:06:34Yeah, I agree completely,
00:06:35and Bartosz had some emotion after that win versus Ellers and Bickler,
00:06:40throwing his hat.
00:06:41You don't see that kind of celebratory emotion too often from him,
00:06:45and so I think that was really cool to see,
00:06:47kind of a vulnerable moment for Bartosz Rorschach,
00:06:50and even in the quarterfinal win as well.
00:06:55So it's exciting to see Poland playing some good, good volleyball.
