00:00I
00:30our office got a call as this case was was breaking we were hearing that this
00:42was a really bad instance of child abuse and it involved Ruby Frankie's children
00:47you're not in trouble with me okay we're just trying to figure out what's going on
00:55our main focus right now is you okay they had duct tape and clear plastic
01:01underneath the sleeves on both wrists you could smell it the flesh the police
01:10weren't sure how many Frankie siblings were still in the house and the boy
01:14hadn't seen them for some time because they were isolated the police officers
01:19are looking at him in the state that he's in and they're terrified they're
01:23gonna go find a body we need to identify the house if there's two other kids
01:30there we need to go do a security sweep at that house but it was a very large house
01:36with a large concrete bunker basement
01:40and they search the house with guns out looking for children
02:00control 12x11 can you hold the air we're searching the house
02:07and they find a little girl
02:19she's sitting in a closet I can't even imagine how terrified she must have been
02:29hey you okay she was so afraid that she wouldn't come out of a closet
02:35are you scared she wanted to make sure that Jody was giving her permission to do that
02:46over the hours that the first responders sat with her and tried to help her get
02:52comfortable there she's starving she ate a whole pizza this little nine-year-old
02:59girl after she had a full stomach they were able to get her to voluntarily come
03:05out and go to the hospital so that she could be examined for her injuries there
03:10aren't words to describe how you just can't even put yourself in a place of who
03:17would ever do that to a child
03:40there's no other kids besides her while this is happening the police get a search
03:47warrant and they detained Ruby and Jody and do a comprehensive search of the
03:56house looking for evidence of the child abuse they're seeing a bathroom garbage can
04:03full of saran wrap and they found this mixture of honey and cayenne pepper the boy had injuries from
04:13the handcuffs that were wrapped in this saran wrap and then duct tape we later found out that's how
04:19they were treating his wounds is rather than putting an antibiotic on they were putting honey
04:23and cayenne pepper in the open wounds and then the officers find what looks like a built-in safe
04:29and when they've opened it it's a panic room in this panic room they find the handcuffs and the rope
04:38that the boy had left in a bedroom earlier that day when he escaped and so it's clear that after he'd
04:46run away Jody had gone back into the house and tried to hide evidence of the abuse
04:51Shelby Lofton joins us live from Utah County so I'll talk to you a little bit about this story I work
05:04for KSL 5 News which is in the local news TV market in Salt Lake City right before our morning editorial
05:13meeting I learned that something had gone down with Ruby Frankie I share with my newsroom that I used to
05:23watch Ruby's family vlogging channel and I think we should look into it and my manager said we need to get
05:31down there now we took chopper 5 that long flight down the stretch of Utah toward Ivins and we're reaching
05:52out to the police and we're trying to get any confirmable information we can we learn about the
05:59two young Frankie children that have been taken from this home to the hospital and that Ruby and Jody
06:08Hildebrandt because police suspect them of very serious child abuse how did it get this bad so then
06:18I'm thinking Ruby has six children Sherry and Chad they're out of the house they're adults at this point
06:25but where are these other two minor children and so I asked the police and they say that it's part of
06:35their ongoing investigation
06:37there's two that we're still looking for are considered so dangerous
06:47all right let's go
06:52I got long
06:54police department
06:56and we're still looking for the old kid siblings
07:21eventually we learn that the two middle daughters who are now teenagers were found at Pam Botcher's
07:39house we learned she was a close associate to Ruby and Jody how did you start to know the family the Frankie family yeah through a program called connections and these two children are unharmed physically but still that complicates
07:59the picture of the picture more are these two middle children truly okay and why were they separated
08:04so both Ruby and Jody the officers bring them in separately to interview them and ask what what's been going on help us understand what's happening
08:17Jody acted like she was in the right and others were in the wrong
08:31I'm a psychologist I've watched people flip things all the time so I get it and I sit on your side
08:39I get it I get it I get it I wish people didn't do that but they do
08:43we're just here to talk to you about kind of a few things involving your kids
08:52do you live down here or
08:55I can wait all day so it's up to you if you want to talk to us about what's going on
09:05Ruby as soon as it becomes clear to her that she is a suspect she just kind of shuts it down
09:13I'll wait till I have a lawyer
09:15and when you have a mom that's involved your first question you ask is where is dad
09:22and how many kids do you have Kevin I have six kids are they all living with you or no I haven't
09:30seen them for over a year any of them no none of them for a year over a year
09:37we received a phone call from 911 a 12 to 13 year old boy was knocking on doors in a neighborhood asking
09:49for food and water you can see that Kevin was shocked to hear what the children looked like and what was going on
09:56he was severely emaciated that he had was
10:01skinny, scrawny, malnutritioned, not enough food, not enough water to sustain life
10:08so he had a certain watch
10:12it became pretty clear to us that we didn't have evidence of Kevin being aware of the child abuse
10:19or being involved in the child abuse and so as far as we're concerned that's as far as we go
10:24I'll find out
10:27so you're under arrest
10:29it's going to be two counts second degree felony of child abuse or neglect okay
10:35there are a lot of layers to this story there were a lot of questions and it took us some time to kind of process that
10:47no one in our office had heard of either Ruby or Jody and so we didn't have it on our radar that it would be a high media interest case
10:56nine shocking allegations as Utah mommy blogger with millions of followers is arrested
11:01Ruby Frankie from the family channel eight passengers
11:04behind bars along with her business partner Jody Hildebrand
11:08Jordan just like jumps up off the couch
11:11Jody and Ruby were just arrested
11:14I just started getting all of these texts one after another saying Ruby Frankie, Ruby Frankie
11:20I was like here we go
11:22you know I keep saying disturbing but that's the only way I can think to describe this
11:28when I saw the cause of the her arrest I was just completely horrified
11:33Ruby's children were found bound and injured
11:36emaciated with wounds all over their bodies
11:38this is one of the worst child abuse cases he and his entire office has ever seen
11:44as a journalist I certainly have alarm bells going off
11:48as a former viewer I'm thinking whoa
11:53because where I left the Frankie family that marriage was intact
11:57and I never could have imagined Kevin he hasn't seen his own children in a year
12:03how did we get here
12:07I don't know if Kevin was a good dad or not
12:23but I do know that Jody's venom is real
12:26and that Kevin has all the signs of it
12:28to more effectively control and inflict the organization's teachings on children
12:35you need the man out
12:37and I think that was the main reason Hildebrandt did that with Kevin Frankie
12:42take one mark
12:44nobody's really tapped into who the evil one actually was
12:50this is a wolf in sheep's clothing that saw an opportunity
12:57you guys have no idea who this woman is
13:01you have no idea
13:03the path of a lot of folks we've interviewed
13:07seems to be like growing up in the church
13:09and then the next step is to go to BYU
13:11then marriage it seems like just a very fluid trajectory
13:15yeah that was kind of my experience as well
13:17I went to BYU
13:20I met my wife that first semester
13:23we were living at the same apartment complex
13:27so one day going to a class
13:30I was at the back of the bus
13:31and she turned around and introduced herself
13:33very quickly we got to know each other pretty well
13:36through that semester
13:37and we were married shortly after that
13:40I did go to BYU
13:43and then after that got married
13:45and then had a couple daughters
13:48you know in the LDS culture family is everything
13:51very quickly you meet someone
13:53get married have a child
13:54you're tied to each other
13:55and that's another cultural thing that
13:57almost like the first person that asks you to marry them
14:00sometimes you'll just get married because
14:02somebody asked and it was the first one
14:05so many relationships that I saw
14:08would push personal happiness aside
14:11four you got to make it work because you're married now
14:14and in the next life
14:15there's a lot of expectations that are placed on
14:18young people in the Mormon church
14:20thinking about the pressure and all the rules and the expectations
14:23there's lots of shame that comes from
14:26not abiding by those things
14:28and it's enough that it keeps you in line
14:30especially as a youth
14:32my earliest memories are mixed with the church
14:41we were always being taught these stories of obedience
14:44and how God would bless you
14:47to me it was everything to be obedient
14:51I believed everything that they taught me there
14:55while I was studying at BYU
14:57I met the daughter of a prestigious Mormon family
15:02we spent like three weeks together every single day
15:06and then she told me that she got an answer from God
15:09that I was supposed to be her husband
15:12I was honest with her
15:14I told her all about my personal life
15:16my insecurities and traumas and challenges
15:19because when you're a victim of sexual abuse
15:21you feel like you're not innocent anymore
15:24this happened while I was in Boy Scouts of America
15:31he was 25, I was 14
15:35I just couldn't even process what was happening to me
15:39I broke down and told the church
15:43about the sexual abuse that was going on
15:45the top church leader emphasized on the phone
15:48how important it was that we didn't let other people know
15:51about what happened
15:53once you become aware of child abuse
15:55you may need assistance determining
15:57whether the information is privileged to remain confidential
16:01or whether the law requires it to be reported to civil authorities
16:05he even made me promise on the phone
16:08that I wouldn't tell my parents
16:11then I just said to him no that doesn't work for me
16:14there are some people in a conservative culture
16:24who believe that exposing the truth isn't important
16:27if it damages an institution
16:30that's supposed to be so sacred as the church or scouting
16:35I was really lucky my parents dedicated tens of thousands of hours
16:39and trying to help fix the damages that these people have prolifically done
16:50and so with all the help from my parents
16:52I eventually filed a lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America
16:57we fought for years
16:59and only for it to become this incredible nightmare
17:03two years later I ended up taking a settlement
17:09but I had no idea my story would cause a chain reaction for me
17:15having all your personal life just exposed everywhere
17:21I can't explain how traumatizing it was
17:24and that caused so many problems in my relationship with my wife
17:30coming from a family that was really high up in the church
17:33she had some issues
17:35some control issues and stuff
17:37and so when she came to me and said we should take therapy
17:42I was thinking that's a great idea
17:44we'll do this together
17:45and things could get like better
17:47the repair of damage inflicted by abuse should be done privately
17:51confidentially
17:53with a trusted priesthood leader
17:55and where needed the qualified professional he recommends
18:00within the Mormon church it's not uncommon
18:02if you're struggling with any issue
18:03that you're going to go to your bishop about it
18:05what he's going to do is either give you advice
18:08or he's going to say you know what no
18:10I think this is kind of over my head
18:12and I'm going to refer you out to therapy
18:14we went to the bishop and the bishop was like
18:17you need to go to Jodi Hildebrandt
18:20and so we did
18:24and that's when Jodi Hildebrandt destroyed my life
18:31you can change
18:34you can change
18:35you do not have to live with this the rest of your life
18:38the first time we met Jodi
18:40it was in a group of couples
18:45she rolls in
18:46she's charismatic
18:47like a talk show host
18:48everyone turns to her to say the final word on everything
18:52you're all children of God
18:54I'm a child of God
18:55and you are divinity
18:56that's who you are
18:57Jodi would just start talking about top people in the church
19:02famous people that she had helped
19:04they relied on her for truth
19:07like she starts telling these funny stories
19:09that relate to all the intimate areas
19:11that are harmless
19:12and it really relaxes people
19:14and they start talking
19:15then she starts to show public examples
19:19in your little private group of people who are in denial
19:22and then laugh with you
19:23and everybody says oh I guess I was in denial
19:25you know
19:26and one thing Jodi started teaching all the time
19:30is that the relationship has to end before it can be reborn
19:34and that's very symbolic of like Christianity
19:37that something has to die before it can be resurrected
19:40these stories about how eventually we go through this like moment
19:43where we go a certain amount of time without sex and everything
19:46and then we'll be like reborn
19:48and just kind of slowly bringing us there
19:50but with fun and charisma
19:52she just started teaching all this success that people had by following this
19:57I started to see that something was changing with my wife
20:00so I started to feel like hey this is a really good thing
20:03this could really improve our relationship
20:05oh come on in he'll have his little heart
20:07I've been asked did I go to Jodi Hildebrandt for marriage counseling
20:12the answer is no I actually went there on my own accord
20:16kind of work on myself
20:18I've had my bumps and bruises in my childhood
20:21and young adult life
20:23and so I've always been interested in therapy
20:27I like to do film stuff and music here and there
20:32and I was actually doing a show
20:35and it went incredibly well
20:37but there's ego involved
20:39and you know getting attention
20:41and I remember when the show was done
20:42and I'm taking pictures
20:44I just felt kind of off
20:46and I felt like I want to get ahead of this feeling
20:49before it gets out of hand
20:51I happened to be talking with a friend of mine
20:54and he brought up Jodi Hildebrandt
20:56and so I watched some videos of her
20:59and as a father of three daughters
21:01I think the thing that was compelling to me
21:03I loved that you know she was a strong woman
21:06she had a great delivery
21:08she had a great presentation
21:10and I did want to learn more at that time
21:14spend a moment to look at yourself
21:18look at the way humility shows up in you
21:22see if that's something that you resist
21:25first thing that you do is a one-on-one therapy
21:28and my first meeting with Jodi I really enjoyed it
21:31she took a liking to me
21:34and so there was this comfort with her
21:37at the beginning she is so good
21:40at helping you feel safe
21:42and developing this trust
21:44by asking about what you struggle with most
21:48I guess
21:49she starts to understand
21:51kind of where the chinks in the armor are
21:53and then she starts asking about some intimate things
21:56you know masturbation or pornography
21:58or any sexual relations
21:59and then she starts to push on that
22:01in sexual transgression
22:04the soul is at stake
22:07what your average person considers normal behavior
22:12is often called a sin within the church
22:16it just creates a lot of sexual shame
22:18for having normal sexual feelings or experiences
22:21the Mormon church for decades and decades
22:24taught that masturbation is next to murder
22:27the stakes are incredibly high
22:29your eternal life and your eternal family are at stake
22:33and certainly Jodi Hildebrandt
22:36going to use this pattern to her advantage
22:39the first thing that the adversary does
22:42is to disconnect us
22:44what do you think shame does?
22:46shame is the master emotion
22:49I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
22:52I love so much about it
22:54and Jodi was brought up in the LDS Church as well
22:57and so everything
22:59Jodi was saying
23:00it made sense to me at the beginning
23:02this is the invitation
23:04for not just this weekend
23:05but for the rest of your life
23:06to make your soul stronger than your flesh
23:10the people that Jodi worked with
23:13probably didn't know her history
23:15she had a messy divorce
23:18she was estranged from her kids
23:20and there's kind of patterns of not being able
23:23to maintain just basic relationships
23:25and then here she is giving advice on those things
23:29I've had a lot of heart in my life
23:31I mean I wouldn't have learned this stuff
23:32if I hadn't been driven to my knees in heart
23:35and so I get it
23:37and I am inviting you to stay in this experience
23:40and not call it bad
23:42three months after the first session
23:46everything changed real subtly
23:49my wife was being instructed by Jodi
23:51to start to limit the communication that we had as a couple
23:55the damage and the disconnect that happens because of lust
23:59affects your spiritual emotional system
24:01I was aware of Jodi Hildebrandt way before she became national news
24:06many of her previous clients have ended up eventually in my office
24:10trying to undo the damage that was done in her treatment styles
24:15after a while Adam started calling and saying this therapy is really
24:21I mean it's weird
24:23Adam had no idea what he was getting into
24:28eventually Jodi was trying to convince my wife
24:38that we needed to start going to her like every single day
24:42we had a lot of money from the settlement
24:44and we just we were paying thousands and thousands of dollars to Jodi regularly
24:50Jodi is a money maker
24:52she figured out early on that you can have therapy with one person
24:57for so much an hour
24:59or you could earn ten times that with just a group
25:02thank you for coming tonight
25:04I really appreciate you spending time with me this evening
25:06I've personally spoken with literally dozens and dozens of victims
25:13of this pattern that Jodi Hildebrandt would inflict upon these families
25:18she'll quickly get the husband to confess to masturbation and pornography
25:24which I'm almost certain that she did with Kevin Franke
25:29I was working through and seeking help with pornography
25:34I've made some wonderful progress
25:37Like is that something you came to the realization
25:40you needed help and weren't doing things right
25:42or is that something that like Jodi helped you guys recognize?
25:45Jodi saw the need for me to get help
25:52Jodi Hildebrandt was one of the Mormon church's go-to experts
25:55on treating pornography and masturbation addiction
25:58The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint
26:01developed their own 12-step program for addictive behavior
26:06They basically adopted the Alcoholics Anonymous model
26:10to try and start capitalizing on this masturbation and pornography addiction idea
26:16And it doesn't matter if you're looking at pornography too much
26:19or if you've masturbated once in the last month
26:22you're sent to this program
26:25Jodi worked within the system of the LDS church
26:31She learned how to work the system
26:33how to get the referrals
26:34how to earn trust
26:36I tried to be perfect my whole life
26:38but I struggled on and off with pornography
26:41and I knew that the Mormon church taught that pornography
26:44and masturbation was committing the sin next to murder
26:47but during this time
26:49I hadn't looked at pornography or masturbation
26:51like for months and months and months
26:53but still Jodi was trying to demand that I get a sponsor
26:57and that I start getting into like this sexual addicts group
27:01I don't want you to think that as long as I stop the behavior
27:04then I've changed
27:05because that is not legitimate change
27:07that's only sober
27:09With these families
27:10the husband had to enroll
27:12in Connection's super expensive individual therapy
27:15for the sin of pornography and masturbation
27:18and then these addiction recovery support groups
27:21both online and in person
27:24some were also run by graduates of Jodi's therapy program
27:29many of which were not in any way credentialed
27:32or trained as mental health professionals
27:34You need professional help
27:35and you need your 12-step groups and sponsorship
27:38because those are the people who actually understand
27:40how to help you through this process accurately
27:46To this day I don't know how my wife found Jodi Hildebrand
27:50who referred her or what happened
27:52but she started seeing Jodi for personal reasons
27:56The floodgate opened in May of 2016
27:59that's when it was just kind of the full sudden change in my life
28:03around that time
28:05she took my laptop
28:06and had it scanned for pornography
28:08she didn't find anything
28:09I don't use pornography
28:11but then she said
28:12even though you're not addicted to porn
28:14you must be addicted to something else
28:16I could become addicted to eating ice cream
28:18I could become addicted to anger
28:21quite literally I can become addicted to anything
28:24that I choose to become addicted to
28:28she kind of like got everyone chasing this unicorn abstract idea
28:33that she could cure you
28:35she knew how to work with your brain to make it happen
28:38what I saw in this group setting
28:41you've got men that are in their 50s
28:43some in their 70s
28:44and then all of a sudden a 15 year old comes in
28:46then somebody that's done some heinous crime in my eyes
28:50they're put in this group
28:52everybody is categorized in the same sphere I guess
28:56I'm a pretty tough guy but it got to me
28:59now you're thinking you're this monster because you
29:02you know you masturbated
29:04or you looked at Instagram where a woman was in a bikini
29:07so you keep on going back
29:09you keep on writing checks
29:10and the nervous system gets just destroyed with shame
29:15one guy had incest problems
29:18one starts talking about he's an exhibitionist
29:21and he's got victims
29:22the next one said he was a voyeurist
29:24and he's got victims too
29:26but Jody taught that it was an issue in your head
29:29the context didn't matter
29:31and she's treating us like we're all the same
29:33and we have the same problem
29:34if you are conscious and you are lusting
29:37the consequences are going to be significant for you
29:40she even said that I was the worst addict of them all
29:44and that's why I lost it
29:46I couldn't function I couldn't think
29:49it triggered the trauma I had as a victim of sexual abuse
29:53then I just said to my wife
29:55I don't want to be here anymore
29:57that's when our problems started to get just crazy
30:04when I was in connections Jody taught sexuality
30:07as the bane of all existence
30:09men are the problem because they're lustful
30:11the wife was instructed to withhold any sexual intimacy
30:16even emotional intimacy from the husband
30:19Jody would say that women control sex
30:22and we need to use that to make sure that truth is being lived
30:26in our relationships
30:28truth is about boundaries
30:32a boundary has to do with what you're going to do
30:34not what somebody else is going to do
30:36how do you get them to stop?
30:38you walk away
30:39Jody had my ex sent a contract that I needed to sign
30:43for us to stay together
30:45it said stuff like
30:47I can still live in the house
30:49but you can't sleep with me
30:51I don't have to do anything with you
30:52for like three years
30:54if you want our marriage to stay together
30:56you got to sign here
30:57it was a divorce receipt
30:59my wife fully implemented Jody's principles
31:02she was using separation to coerce me
31:04to essentially to become a Hilda Grant follower as well
31:07she sent a list of demands that I needed to adhere to
31:11to avoid permanent separation or to avoid divorce
31:14the demands was to attend Jody's connections class
31:18I had to attend 12 step program
31:20I had to find a sponsor
31:21Jody had this incredible disdain towards the idea of males
31:27what I saw is constant separation
31:30all she wanted to do is separate men and women
31:32I would give anything to live in the same room with my husband
31:35and you're telling this woman to kick her husband out
31:38separation is a principle of truth
31:41and separation is a necessary thing
31:45in order to become people who live in truth
31:48eventually I refused to go to Jody
31:54but my wife continued to go back
31:57my wife eventually she says
31:59if you don't accept these teachings
32:00I'm going to find a new dad for our daughter
32:03you're replaceable
32:05I need someone who is also a Jody disciple
32:08when you're in truth things are clear to you
32:11you accept pain and you let go
32:13this was a very effective move on Jody's part
32:16of creating separation and isolation
32:20everybody's starting to go crazy
32:22and they start to crumble
32:24you didn't even know what Jody you were going to get
32:27sometimes you get this loving person
32:30and then other times you just feel this darkness within her
32:36you need to understand honey that I will commit to you
32:40and if something comes up that I deem is more important
32:43then I'm going to do that
32:44I don't know how long you're going to stay married
32:46but that's what you need to say to them
32:49when all the kids left Ruby took all of them?
33:05oh yeah she stayed in the house and I moved up
33:08okay
33:09and did you ever try to reach out to the kids
33:12drop by the home or was there?
33:19so what was your separation?
33:22excuse me
33:23did you have a no contact order in place?
33:29did she ask you not to contact the kids?
33:31Ruby invited me to leave the home
33:42in the days following the arrest
33:44I'm hearing these different accounts
33:46from people coming forward saying they're victims
33:49of Jody Hildebrandts
33:51it starts to make the Kevin Franke piece of this
33:54become clearer
33:56but I still am operating with a lot of skepticism
34:00it's still really hard for me to believe that this family man
34:05has been away during the abuse of his children
34:09and so I decided to door knock the Springville neighborhood
34:12where the Franke family lives
34:15and it's actually the neighbors who tell me
34:18well you know Jody Hildebrandt moved in there right?
34:21and I said what?
34:24she lives in Ivins
34:26and they said no Jody moved in a few months ago
34:29maybe a year ago
34:30it's all fuzzy
34:32but she moved in
34:33yeah she lived in that house with them in Springville
34:36she is right there with Ruby
34:39and Kevin is gone
34:40never comes
34:41he never comes to check on the kids
34:43nope
34:44no one knows where Kevin is
34:51March of 2021
34:55when after a connections conference down in St. George
35:00all of the inner circle
35:03all the people who were being trained as mental fitness coaches and stuff
35:09so that was Ruby and a bunch of other people and their spouses
35:14we went out to like a dinner afterwards
35:17and that's where Jody really opened up to the women in a private conversation
35:24that she believed she was being tormented and haunted by shadow figures every night
35:32Ruby was convinced that we could intervene and help Jody
35:36it was at that point that Ruby said we could take her up to our house
35:43the moment she showed up in my house
35:45just the weirdest crap started happening
35:48lights turning on and off
35:51sounds of people walking in walls across the ceiling
35:56stuff floating around
35:58and it was just
36:00it was weird
36:02I gotta say
36:05I'm a smart guy
36:07I'm an engineer
36:09I'm a college professor
36:11I can't explain some of the stuff that happened
36:14she would talk in like different voices
36:18it was really creepy
36:20but the voices would say
36:22she's ours
36:23we're not letting go
36:25she's mine
36:26I'm going to marry her
36:27she believed that Satan wanted her as her bride
36:34Jody had so much power over Kevin and Ruby
36:38that they bought into what Jody was saying
36:42that she was being tormented by demons or devils
36:46and their belief in Jody made it so they were seeing those things too
36:52Kevin even says at one point I'm an engineer
36:54I'm a very logical person in other words is what he's saying
36:57and yet I can't explain
36:59the things that I'm
37:01seeing
37:03he may be an engineer
37:05but his belief system is still geared towards seeing the improbable or the fantastic
37:10because he sees Jody as an authority on this
37:12a moral authority
37:14whose visions are real
37:16and I think they believed she was going to help heal the world
37:20and fight evil through her teachings
37:23whenever she started going to a trance and go into possession
37:28Ruby would go up and check on her
37:30and then at some point Ruby said
37:33you know what I'm just going to start sleeping in there
37:36that's kind of weird but okay
37:39and that was that
37:41they started sleeping in the same bed
37:42inexplicably after entering into the super unethical relationship with all the Frankie family
37:49Jody moves in to the Frankie household
37:52and then she convinces Ruby that she and Ruby need to sleep together in the same bed
37:57and if this weren't unethical and horrific enough for any licensed mental health professional
38:02Kevin ends up being kicked out of his own home
38:05July 20th, 2022
38:10Ruby went on a trip with Jody and Pam down to Arizona
38:19when she came back from that trip
38:22before she even brought the bags into the house
38:25she pulled me in and said
38:27I want to talk with you
38:28and that's when she asked me to leave
38:29the neighbors tell me that they were noticing Ruby was gone for days on end
38:42but they would see children's faces in the windows
38:45and so they knew kids were home alone
38:48and that's when they really were frightened and concerned for the well-being of these children
38:53Simultaneously, we're learning that Sherry Frankie, Ruby's eldest daughter, has called DCFS
39:02and asked them to please check on her siblings
39:06Hi, my name is Sherry Frankie
39:08My four younger siblings are living in Springville
39:11and my neighbors have been telling me that they have been left home alone for about four or five days
39:15So I'm taking in these details
39:20Kevin's attorney says no, he got his own apartment
39:23and he was told by Jody that he had to be isolated
39:28to reflect on his own behaviors
39:31and work on himself
39:34and basically, it was Ruby's call
39:37whether and when he could come back
39:39and I just keep asking, how could a man do that?
39:45How could a man walk away simply at this request?
39:50Don't you want to fight for your family?
40:00When we're doing an investigation and we're trying to figure out what in the world's going on
40:03information of prior bad acts is really helpful to us
40:10We have these pieces of evidence
40:13and then Jesse came in and helped us put that together into a picture for us
40:22Mark it
40:23Mark it
40:53Mark the
41:17Ruby, Frankie, and business partner Jody Hildebrandt were arrested for child abuse.
41:36My reality for the last 14 years is suddenly exposed.
41:40We clearly had more evidence of Ruby inflicting the abuse, but we had evidence that Jody was causing it.
41:48Pain is there to give you an opportunity to make different choices.
41:53She gains your trust, and little by little, she rips you apart.
41:57She wants everyone to be her puppet.
42:00This lady's nuts. She's absolutely dangerous.
42:03She would lock me in a closet, make me run for hours.
42:07You think Sherry Hildebrandt is a cult theater?
42:10Um...
42:11How do you plead to aggravated child abuse?
42:15Guilty.
42:15Ruby was just a perfect candidate to take Jody's cult to the next level.
42:20Jody denied everything.
42:22What have I done?
42:23If those children had not escaped when they did, they would have been dead within two weeks.
42:27Brighter days.
42:34I un whispered before.
42:47Very well.
42:48For my listeners, I need to touch on you.
