00:00My name is Yara Milbis. I am the VP of Global Marketing at Lucidia. I basically drive growth,
00:12brand, and customer engagement strategies across the region and beyond.
00:16First of all, it's an incredible honor, but it's also a huge responsibility because to
00:22be named as a woman of influence is to use your voice actively and intentionally to shift
00:27conversations and make space for other women in rooms where female representation is necessarily
00:33or unnecessarily underestimated. And to have a seat at the table means that other women
00:39can and should want to be here. And it's our duty collectively to hold the door open and
00:44not just walk through it.
00:48If there's a mindset that helped me get to where I am today, I'd say it's acting like
00:52I belong, even if I'm still figuring it out. But I'd make sure also that I figure it out.
00:57And this is especially important when you're moving up the corporate ladder, when the gaps
01:01in your knowledge are very apparent in the first couple of months. And if you let doubt
01:06creep in, it will show in the way you behave, in the way you act, in the way you speak. So
01:11give yourself permission to speak with conviction so others can see you as a peer rather than
01:16an undeserving outsider.
01:18So if there's one thing that I have to let go of hustle culture and the belief that I
01:25need to burn out to deserve a place at the table, and we really need to stop glorifying
01:30this. And there's also expectations for women in leadership roles to, first of all, erase
01:37the bias or the preconceived ideas about them, and then let your work speak for itself. And I always thought
01:44that I had to overwork, overburn, to prove my worthiness of being in a leadership role, before
01:54I can actually focus on the work that would speak eventually for itself.
02:02My message for women is a bit of a controversy, but also a no-brainer. Just don't ask for permission.
02:08Speak up, raise your hand, take the leap. Success favors the brave. Half the story is already
02:14female, so you belong. Act like you belong, and be compelling. And you owe this to yourself
02:19and to the women that are going to come after you.
