00:00After his historic U.S. Open victory, New York, Filipino tennis sensation Alex Ayala now turns her focus to the Guadalajara Open in Mexico as the tournament kicks off this week.
00:10Ayala recently made history as the first Filipino to win a main draw singles match at a Grand Slam in the Open era.
00:17But her mission continues as she begins her Guadalajara 125 campaign on Tuesday, Manila time, against Dutch player Ariane Hartono.
00:25Currently ranked world number 187, seeded number 2 in the tournament and ranked world number 75, Ayala holds a perfect record against Hartono, defeating her in all three of their previous encounters.
00:39Their rivalry began at the Roehampton 2 semifinals in 2023 in Great Britain, where Ayala prevailed in a hard-fought match 7-6, 4-2-6, 6-1.
00:51She then outlasted Hartono again in the Canberra 125 or 125th round of 16 earlier this year before seizing another victory at the W100 Bengaluru first round in India, also in January.
01:04Following the Guadalajara Open, which wraps up on September, Ayala is set to continue her busy campaign at the Sao Paulo Open in Brazil from September 8 to 14.
