00:23Recent excavations have unearthed not only ancient building materials like bricks and

00:27piles of limestone, which the archaeologists believe were for wall construction, but they

00:31also found ancient Pompeian tools of the trade, revealing they were using the same building

00:35materials, tools, and methods of the ancient Romans, revealing just how ubiquitous the empire's

00:41impact was. With the director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park saying about it, quote,

00:46This explains why the ancient Romans were able to build these great amphitheaters,

00:50aqueducts, and works that we see all over the ancient Mediterranean. Adding that the small

00:54city of Pompeii, which had only around 13,000 residents at the time of the Vesuvius eruption,

00:59helps us better understand the Roman Empire at large. Just one more secret from Pompeii,
