The Scotsman Football Show - transfer deadline day
Transcript
00:00Hello and good morning to this Scotsman Football Show. My name is Mark Atkinson, Sports Editor,
00:07teeing up transfer deadline day for you in the Scottish Premiership and beyond. So it's the
00:13last day that Scottish clubs can make transfers before the window slams shut at 11pm this evening.
00:20Now it was supposed to be 7pm but the clubs wanted to go four hours later. English window
00:26closes still at 7pm but we'll be closing at 11pm here. And we are expecting a busy transfer
00:32window today in Scotland. I'll talk you through very briefly what we're anticipating from the
00:37main clubs. We're expecting both the old firm to be extremely active. I'll start at Celtic
00:42Park where a lot of scrutiny has been put upon Brendan Rodgers' side's transfer business.
00:49The head coach himself would admit that they've not signed enough forward players. We expect
00:56that to be addressed somewhat today. They are in negotiations with Anderlecht for their
01:00striker Kasper Dahlberg. They also hold a serious interest in Sebastian Tunetke who is a Tunisian
01:07winger who plays for Hammerby. They're also in for Jerison Raksaki who is a winger at Crystal
01:14Palace and they also would like to get another number nine on top of Dahlberg. Will they get
01:20all their targets? Well that remains to be seen and it'll be fascinating to see Ron's reaction
01:24if he doesn't get the guys that he wants given he's been so vociferous about the recruitments
01:29that he wants to make. Going out of the way Adam Ida is set to join Swansea City although
01:35that deal is dependent on Celtic getting another striker in. Yang Hyun Joon the South Korean
01:41winger could also leave. He's wanted by Birmingham City but we anticipate that the biggest business
01:47will be coming in the way at Celtic. The same at Rangers. They hope to bring in a number of key
01:54players ahead of the deadline closing. They got Bojan Miofsky in ahead of the old firm game
02:00at the weekend and they hope to sign on a striker in Everton's Portugal on 21st National. Youssef
02:05Chermiti that deal could be worth as much as 8.5 million pounds. They also would like a winger.
02:11They're also in talk with Crystal Palace for Raksaki. They actually made an interesting
02:16move for him last month. Crystal Palace weren't keen to sell at that point with the deadline about
02:21it to close. That could be reignited. At the back they are in talks with Marseille for Derek
02:27Cornelius who's a left-sided defender who can play centre-half or full-back. There could be some very
02:33notable departures from Ibrox today as well. Cyril Dersers has been the main striker for two years is set
02:38to leave for either Paraphanaikos or AEK Athens in Greece. While Nikola Raskin, the controversial
02:46should we say midfielder right now at Rangers, left out of the game against Celtic yesterday.
02:50He is being monitored by Wolves and Crystal Palace among others in the English Premier League. It remains
02:56to be seen if he does go between now and the window after what appears to be a slight breakdown in his
03:02relationship with head coach Russell Martin. Rangers also have some fringe players they would let go.
03:07The likes of Clinton and Sialia could leave before the deadline closes. The business won't be confined
03:14to Glasgow of course and across the MA it's been Edinburgh. Hibbs are looking for another striker.
03:20Lyndon Dykes, the Scotland internationalist, is someone there very interested in talks are ongoing there
03:26on a loan deal. They'd also be open to sign a midfielder but that could depend on what happens
03:32going out the way. In terms of transfers out, Eli Yuan is in discussions with Legia Warsaw,
03:39the Polish team that knocked them out of the conference league last week although that deal
03:43is far from starting to happen and there is some interest in Alessandra Mane, the Gambian midfielder
03:49and they could both leave before the window closes. At Hearts they've made a number of signings,
03:56this summer. We anticipate that the signing of goalkeeper Alexander Schwalow yesterday will be
04:02their last bit of business coming in unless there's late development. It's more likely to see some
04:07players leave Tyne Castle. Derek McKess has spoken quite openly about his squad being bloated and there
04:14could be some movement for the likes of Caelan Neuvenhall, Sander Khartoum, Kenneth Fargast, Musa Drama,
04:20players that maybe haven't featured so far under the new Hearts boss. Aberdeen going to September
04:28bottom of the league having lost their first three matches and there is a lot of scrutiny
04:33on their forward options in particular, haven't scored a goal yet in the league. Manager Jimmy
04:37Talim was pretty open and honest about improvement required and it should be a busy day at Petraudry.
04:43They also have an interest in Lyndon Dykes and they are looking to strengthen in multiple areas of
04:49the pitch before the deadline closes. A lot of managers spoke yesterday about hoping to bring
04:55in new players. Falkirk anticipated bringing in a couple more after John McGuinn presented over a win
05:00at Aberdeen. Livingston are also in the market for new players. St Mirren would like a new striker.
05:06Motherwell and Kilmarnock, their business is probably done as is Dundee United. They've signed a number of
05:12players but they started the season really, really well and won the Dundee Derby yesterday. Dundee
05:18probably need a few more as well but we're unsure as to how many they can bring in. It's certainly
05:24going to be a busy day for a number of clubs in the Premiership. The deadline closes at 11pm. We've
05:31got a transfer block up and running on the Scotland website and we'll have door tunes throughout the day
05:36in what could be a fascinating 24 hours ahead of us.
