00:00You know, it's okay to be sad about it.
00:04Welcome to Miss Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the Big Bang Theory moments
00:08that hit us with the force of a wrecking ball.
00:10When I lost my own father, I didn't have any friends to help me through it.
00:16You do.
00:19Number 30, Amy in the bathroom.
00:21We've all been there, you see a photo of yourself, and your heart sinks.
00:24Amy?
00:25Raj, please, not now.
00:28What's wrong?
00:30My picture's all over the internet, and I look terrible.
00:33Not because you're not beautiful, but because it holds up a mirror to every so-called floor
00:37society's ever sold you.
00:38We were gutted for Amy, who instead of celebrating this momentous occasion,
00:42is heartbroken over how she looks in some pictures.
00:44No, I shouldn't care about how I look, and I never thought I did.
00:47It's stupid and shallow, but I just can't help it.
00:51Am I really this frumpy?
00:53No.
00:54No, you are a beautiful woman.
00:56Amy always prided herself on valuing her mind above all else, but moments like this prove
01:01that even the most seemingly unbothered among us can be wrecked by things we never thought
01:06we cared about.
01:07Also, watching Amy's excitement evaporate after Sheldon reacts poorly to her makeover stings
01:12that much more.
01:13I like you better the way you were.
01:15But she looks beautiful.
01:19Classic lines, colors that complement her skin tone, and hair that goes from office to on the
01:24town in minutes.
01:28I don't care.
01:29Put it back.
01:30I like the way I look.
01:32Well, I don't.
01:33Number 29.
01:34Raj ends his friendship with Howard.
01:36This one was a long time coming.
01:38Howard's love language was apparently verbal jabs and emotional neglect, and it's kind of
01:41tragic that Raj needed his dad to explain that this friendship was a toxic mess.
01:45Don't make excuses.
01:47What kind of friend acts that way?
01:50Well, I guess...
01:51It was a rhetorical question.
01:52A bad friend.
01:53Even so, we can't say that watching these besties part ways wasn't at all sad.
01:58At first, Howard laughs Raj off, because of course he does.
02:01But he soon seems to realize what he's lost.
02:03Thank you for blaming me for everything that's wrong in your life.
02:06Thank you for walking out on our friendship.
02:09You are welcome.
02:11And thank you for mocking me for all of these years.
02:13Thank you for making it so easy.
02:15He lashes out in anger rather than admitting the truth.
02:18He misses his bestie, and he's gutted that Raj has turned his back on the friendship.
02:21Why are you being such a jerk?
02:23Because you're my best friend, and you hurt my feelings.
02:27Well, you're my best friend, and you hurt my feelings!
02:30It's only once Howard gets vulnerable and real that their friendship can bounce back.
02:34Number 28.
02:35Raj All Alone
02:36Many of you were pretty gutted that Raj, the hopeless romantic of the group,
02:39ended the series solo, and we hear you.
02:42Just saying that after everything you've been through,
02:46you get to look into each other's eyes and say,
02:49I love you.
02:51And that's beautiful.
02:52Now, don't get us wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being single,
02:55but Raj wanted love so badly.
02:58We felt his heart break like a punch to the chest.
03:00What's single?
03:02What is wrong with me?
03:03Why can't I ever have love?
03:05You will.
03:07No, I won't.
03:09I am unlovable.
03:11From Lucy to Emily and even Anu, Raj's fairytale love always felt just out of reach.
03:16While we love how they flip the classic rom-com trope with Howard stopping Raj at the airport
03:20as they walk off together, we can't help but feel for Raj and wonder if he'll ever find
03:24the right girl to stand in front of this boy.
03:27Are you saying you're just a boy?
03:32Standing in front of another boy?
03:36Saying you don't want him to leave?
03:40Sure.
03:41Number 27, Sheldon realises the sacrifices his family made for him.
03:45Now that young Sheldon is officially part of the TBBT canon, we know just how much Sheldon's
03:50family, even his siblings, did to accommodate him.
03:53But of course, all of that went completely over his head.
03:55I talk to mom all the time.
03:57If she was upset, she would have told me.
03:59She was protecting you, you idiot, just like everyone always does.
04:04If things were bad, then why didn't you tell me?
04:06Because I was protecting you too.
04:08That is until Georgie, his long-estranged big brother, finally lays it out for him and
04:13he doesn't sugarcoat it.
04:14It's a long-overdue reality check that hits Sheldon hard.
04:17You're my baby brother, Sheldon.
04:20I know life has been hard for you.
04:23But that don't mean it's been easy for the rest of us.
04:26We already knew that Georgie and Missy were often overlooked growing up, but watching that
04:29truth finally land for Sheldon makes us feel even more for his siblings.
04:33Despite everything, Georgie still cares for his baby brother a lot, and that has us welling
04:37up every time.
04:38Sorry.
04:42And it would mean a lot to me to have my big brother at my wedding.
04:53I wouldn't miss it.
04:54Number 26, Sheldon Can't Handle Conflict.
04:57In Young Sheldon, we don't see Mary and George argue nearly as much as adults Sheldon remembers,
05:01but the moments that they did clearly left a mark.
05:03It's no secret that we're shaped by our childhoods, but in this episode, we see just how deeply
05:17Sheldon was wounded by his parents' conflicts.
05:19All this fighting, I might as well be back with my parents.
05:22Damn it, George.
05:23I told you if you didn't quit drinking, I'd leave you.
05:25Well, I guess that makes you a liar, because I'm drunk as hell and you're still here.
05:29Stop yelling.
05:30You're making Sheldon cry.
05:31I'll tell you what's making Sheldon cry, that I let you name him Sheldon!
05:34These moments are often played for laughs, but under the laugh track, we're really watching
05:38his younger self jump into self-defense.
05:41The more people around him fight, the stronger his walls become.
05:44Moments like this remind us that while we grow up, we rarely leave our inner child behind.
05:48Come on, Sheldon, let's go home.
05:50Look at what we're done fighting.
05:51I've heard that before.
05:53Then the next thing you know, I'm hiding in my bedroom, blaring a Richard Feynman lecture,
05:57while my mom is shouting that Jesus would forgive her if she put ground glass in my dad's meatloaf.
06:01My dad's on the roof skeet-shooting her Franklin mint collectible plates.
06:07Sheldon's not usually one for hugs, but a toy robot will do.
06:10Number 25, Please Don't Hurt My Friend.
06:12None of us want to see our friends hurting, not even Sheldon Cooper.
06:16Now you're asking me to keep a secret from my best friend, colleague and roommate?
06:21Yes, please, Penny will kill me.
06:23Fine.
06:26FYI, secret keeping?
06:27Hate it.
06:28So when he hears through the grapevine that Penny is considering breaking up with Leonard again,
06:32he just can't sit around and wait for her to break his heart.
06:35Of course, he goes about it in the most Sheldon-esque way,
06:38so his genuine concern goes mostly unnoticed.
06:40Okay, you listen to me.
06:42I think it's really sweet you're trying to protect your friend,
06:44but this is none of your business, got it?
06:46Excuse me, this is not about protecting my friend.
06:49I'm a big fan of homeostasis.
06:58Do you know what that is?
06:59Of course not.
07:00We may not have even noticed it on our first watch,
07:03but now we can see how his obsessive behavior is actually just a manifestation of his inner turmoil.
07:08Of course, it's the moment that he finally says out loud what's been eating him up inside
07:12that makes our hearts ache for him.
07:14Penny.
07:15What?
07:15Please don't hurt my friend.
07:20That is the last thing I want to do.
07:23Number 24, Sheldon vs. Emotions
07:25Sheldon rarely picks up on emotional cues, and it often gets him in trouble.
07:29We were discussing Raj's recent breakup, and apparently I was insensitive to him.
07:33It's okay, I'm fine.
07:35Don't fall for it.
07:36He'll get you to compare him to a dead virgin, and suddenly you're the bad guy.
07:39But this time, he learns that being aware of people's unfiltered emotions isn't exactly easy either.
07:44When Howard gives him a prototype emotion detector, Sheldon's eager to try it,
07:49but clearly misses the memo about not announcing everything it picks up.
07:52Stay out of this.
07:53You and your stupid machine started this fight.
07:55You are lucky that this feelings machine doesn't have feeling.
07:58He soon realizes that having the ability to sense emotions without knowing what to do with them
08:03is just as hard as not sensing them at all.
08:05All he wants is to understand others, but he still falls short.
08:08For once, it's not apathy.
08:10It's that he simply doesn't know how.
08:12It's a rare, deeply human moment for Sheldon.
08:15I always knew I had trouble recognizing other people's emotions,
08:18but that machine just made it so real.
08:22Well, everybody has things that they need help with.
08:24Like, me, I can't see without my glasses.
08:27You know, right now, you're just a cute pink smudge wearing a childish green smudge.
08:33I thought I was getting better at it, but clearly I'm not.
08:35Number 23.
08:36Amy's left out of bridesmaid dress shopping.
08:38Much like Sheldon, Amy's social etiquette could occasionally use some fine-tuning,
08:43especially earlier on.
08:44She's just so excited to have girlfriends that she tends to get a little carried away.
08:48They're out shopping right now?
08:49Yeah.
08:50Just the two of them?
08:52I guess.
08:54That's cool.
08:55That's cool.
08:55Unfortunately, rather than being gently honest,
08:58Penny and Bernadette leave her out of wedding prep entirely.
09:01This hits on a feeling that many of us know.
09:03The pain of finally feeling like you fit in,
09:05only to fear that you might lose at all.
09:07This is us.
09:09Bernadette, you are the analytical, scientific left hemisphere.
09:12Penny, you're the creative, spontaneous right hemisphere.
09:15And where's Amy?
09:18She's right here.
09:19The sad little tumor no one wants to go dress shopping with.
09:22For someone who spent most of her life feeling like an outsider,
09:25this felt like being rejected all over again.
09:27It's that gut punch of going from feeling included to suddenly left out.
09:31Of course, it's going to hurt.
09:33Sorry.
09:34We feel awful.
09:35Don't.
09:37I'll be okay.
09:38You're not the first girls I thought were friends with me who ended up shunning me.
09:41It's like elementary school, junior high, high school, undergrad, grad school,
09:45and that semester abroad in Norway all over again.
09:47Number 22.
09:48Sheldon's broken heart goes on the record.
09:50For someone who hates secrets, Sheldon sure held onto this one for a while.
09:54It's totally by accident that Penny and Leonard even learn that Sheldon had been planning to propose.
09:58While he insists he's fine about it all, his outbursts say otherwise.
10:02Even someone like Sheldon Cooper, who idolizes Spock in every sense, can't escape heartache.
10:07I am sitting here on a couch talking about my favorite TV character like nothing happened.
10:11Because I am just like him.
10:13All logical.
10:13All the time.
10:14Sweetie, you're yelling.
10:15Because when I speak at a regular volume, no one seems to believe me that I put this Amy nonsense behind me.
10:20We get it.
10:21Sometimes when the pain is too much to bear, it's easier to pretend it doesn't exist than to face it head on.
10:25But it's even more crushing when he goes to find Amy to patch things up, only to see that she's already moved on.
10:31That hurt us like it was happening to us.
10:45Number 21.
10:46George's final words of wisdom.
10:48After Sheldon and Amy's asymmetry theory is disproven, Sheldon sinks into despair, with only one person who can help.
10:54Hello, Sheldon.
10:55Hello, Sheldon.
10:57If you're watching this, I assume something bad has happened.
11:01Something unfortunate and unforeseen.
11:04Something that's making you question everything.
11:08I'm so smart.
11:09Unfortunately, it's not to be, leaving Sheldon free-falling even further down the rabbit hole.
11:14Luckily, someone else comes through for him in the nick of time.
11:17This will hit home for anyone who's lost a loved one.
11:19You learn as much about who you are and what you're made of,
11:22from feeling as you do from success.
11:26Maybe more.
11:29So you can spend the next half feeling sorry for yourselves,
11:32or you can get out there and give him hell.
11:35Few of us get a chance to receive a much-needed pep talk from someone who we miss greatly.
11:39It's a touching moment, but also heartbreaking, knowing this might be the last time that George really shows up for his son when he needs him most,
11:46and that Sheldon didn't know how to appreciate what he had until it was gone.
11:50Thanks, Dad.
11:52We're gonna give him hell.
11:53Number 20.
11:54Stuart showed up.
11:56As much as Stuart was part of the group, and at one point he and Raj became really good friends,
12:01he often felt like he was on the outside looking in.
12:03Thanks for letting me use the comic book store as part of the scavenger hunt.
12:06Oh, my pleasure.
12:07Always happy to help out with fun things that I wasn't invited to be a part of.
12:10And while we'd like to tell you that he was wrong and was just projecting his own fears and neuroses on the group, we can't.
12:18Sure, we can understand that a lot can happen in two decades,
12:21but when the gang all agreed to reunite for a meal 20 years in the future,
12:26Stuart was the only one who followed through.
12:29We can only assume that the rest of them were sitting around some futuristic coffee table eating dinner,
12:34and totally forgot about their former friend.
12:37See you guys in 20 years.
12:40Hi, Nite.
12:48Number 19.
12:49Green Lantern had to watch Wonder Woman and Superman.
12:52Winning the New Year's Eve costume contest at the comic book store should have been a really happy moment for Leonard.
13:00And it was.
13:01At first.
13:02The guy's decision to get Penny to be Wonder Woman and her then-boyfriend Zack to be Superman had paid off in victory.
13:08But then the countdown happened.
13:11Midnight struck, and Leonard had to stand there and watch Penny and Zack kiss.
13:16Happy New Year!
13:22What made it even sadder was that Penny had her eyes on Leonard throughout.
13:26This gesture felt like acknowledging that she still had feelings for him, even though she was embracing Zack.
13:33If Zack and I had just gone to a regular club or a party, it would have been fine.
13:37But this, with the costumes and you...
13:39What about me?
13:44Nothing.
13:44Number 18.
13:45In the season 2 finale, Sheldon and the guys prepared to head off to the North Pole for a few months.
13:53Sorry, I was going to tell you.
13:54Oh, hey!
13:55No, you don't have to apologise.
13:56There's no reason you have to tell me.
13:58I was just, you know, surprised.
14:00After Penny found out Leonard was leaving, she notably got him a gift and gave him an extra lengthy hug.
14:06This act confused Leonard, who had feelings for his neighbour.
14:09However, when he questioned her about her motives, she denied that her gestures and words meant anything.
14:16Yet when he left and she was alone in her apartment, she finally privately voiced her true feelings, breaking us.
14:23Bye.
14:23Okay, bye.
14:28It means I wish you weren't going.
14:32If she had just told Leonard the truth, we could have all had a happy cry.
14:36But instead, the moment was just a tragic one.
14:40Number 17.
14:41Sheldon feeling left out.
14:43We may not all be geniuses, but that doesn't mean we can't relate to a lot of what the guys, Amy and Bernadette, go through.
14:51In this case, it was Sheldon's feelings that hit us right in our hearts.
14:55When Dr. Cooper didn't get invited to an exclusive physics symposium, his feelings were hurt.
15:01A select group of scientists was invited to a weekend symposium at a former home of Richard Feynman, and I wasn't included.
15:08Sheldon, I'm sure it's not because they don't think you're an elite scientist.
15:11No one ever likes to be left out, especially when the thing you're being left out of involves your peer group.
15:18Sure, many of us can't relate to the whole physics symposium thing, but being excluded is something we've all dealt with at one time or another.
15:26Do you think there comes a point in life when it stops feeling bad to be left out of things?
15:32Probably not.
15:33It's an evolutionary advantage to be included in group activities.
15:37It's this relatability that really made the ordeal difficult to watch.
15:41Until Sheldon and Amy built Fort Cozy McBlanket, of course.
15:46The first annual Best Fort Ever contest, or Fort Off, are Fort Knox, Fort Ticonderoga, Fort Sumpter, and Fort Cozy McBlanket.
16:00Number 16. Priya cheated on Leonard
16:03Allow us to start by saying that, yes, we know Leonard also cheated on Priya when he repeatedly made out with Alice, the girl from the comic book store.
16:13I thought for once I'd met a good guy, but you're just another jackass.
16:16Oh, no, no, you have it wrong. No, I was going to be a jackass, but I stopped myself.
16:23However, with that being said, we also recognize that he ultimately stopped it from going any further than that, walking away because he felt bad about what he was doing.
16:33So when he found out that Priya did a whole lot more than just make out with someone, he was blindsided.
16:39I kind of cheated on you too.
16:41I mean, kind of.
16:44A couple of weeks ago, I slept with my ex-boyfriend.
16:49And his pain over the dissolution of their relationship was real.
16:53Regardless of how you felt about Leonard and Priya as a couple, there's no doubt that they cared for each other.
16:59And seeing it end like that was unfortunate.
17:02Well, it's not a competition.
17:03Oh, yeah, it is. And you won.
17:09I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I have to go.
17:12Number 15. Penny, cut from NCIS.
17:15To call Penny a struggling actress is almost an understatement.
17:19Before she switched career paths, her only noteworthy gigs, besides some small stage productions, were a hemorrhoid commercial and the low-budget, low-quality Serial Apist movies.
17:30Oh, after I did it, I felt so ashamed. Thankfully, that thing never came out.
17:36I've seen that.
17:39Yeah. Serial Apist.
17:41So, when she got a small part on an episode of the big network television show, NCIS, in Season 7, we couldn't have been happier for her.
17:51That also meant that when she found out her scene was removed from the episode, we felt her pain and devastation.
17:57It was even worse because she was watching with all her friends in excited anticipation.
18:02I'm sorry.
18:03That stinks.
18:04Sure you agreed.
18:05This doesn't make any sense to me. I thought I did a really good job.
18:09Excuse me.
18:14We still haven't fully recovered from this one.
18:17Number 14. Why Sheldon Knocks Three Times
18:20Throughout the series, Sheldon's compulsion to always knock three times was a source of many funny moments.
18:26Who do we love?
18:27Benny.
18:27Who do we love?
18:28Benny.
18:29Who do we love?
18:30Benny.
18:32Hello, Sheldon. Come on in.
18:34However, the origin of the obsession, and the reason why he did it, is anything but funny.
18:39As he explained to Penny in Season 10.
18:42During a heart-to-heart with her, he opened up about how, as a teen, he had walked in on his dad with a woman who was not his mum.
18:50I saw my father having relations with another woman.
18:55Oh, that's awful.
18:56I know.
18:58That's also why I never open a door without knocking three times.
19:00Of course, we now know that's not exactly what happened, but we digress.
19:04He told the story in order to explain why he was being difficult when it came to compromising with Amy.
19:11But in doing so, he also mentioned that it fuelled the reasoning behind his triple knocks, tugging at our heartstrings in the process.
19:19Number 13. Sheldon and Amy's Theory Debunked
19:22One of the happiest moments of the show was when Sheldon and Amy won the Nobel Prize.
19:28However, in the lead-up to that happiest of moments, the story took a few major detours in sadness.
19:34One such detour was the apparent disproving of their theory by a Russian paper from the 1970s.
19:40Well, Raj and I were chasing them down like you asked us to, and we came across a Russian paper that seems to disprove super asymmetry.
19:51Seeing the shock in their eyes was sad enough, and Sheldon demolishing the whiteboard just added to it.
19:57But the primal scream he let out after is when the devastation of the moment really hit the highest and most gutting of notes.
20:10Although it did make the joy that much greater when their theory was ultimately proved right.
20:19Number 12. Howard Refuses to Read the Letter from His Father
20:22Two of the defining aspects of Howard's character were the fact that he lived with his mother,
20:27and that his father abandoned the family when he was young.
20:31Why don't you read it? Maybe he apologises or explains why he left.
20:35He abandoned me and my mother. Why does he deserve a chance to explain anything?
20:41While he was often ragged on for the former, it was the latter that was sad.
20:46We always knew it had affected him, but it wasn't until Sheldon uncovered a letter from his dad,
20:51sent for his 18th birthday, that we fully appreciated the hurt Howard was carrying.
20:56He never opened it, actually opting to burn it in this episode.
21:00The group eventually came up with a clever way to share its message with him.
21:04But his not wanting to definitively know what it said showed the depth of the agony he felt.
21:10We felt it too.
21:12Actually, I don't want to know. I want all of them to be true.
21:18Well, one of them is.
21:20That's pretty cool.
21:21Number 11. Sheldon's Pop Pop
21:23What started off as a fun Christmas-themed game of Dungeons & Dragons
21:27ends with one of the saddest moments of the series.
21:30I get right up in Santa's big, fat face and say,
21:34Well, well, well.
21:35Jolly old Saint Nick, we meet again.
21:38Yeah, I believe the last time we spoke was in the Baybrook Mall in Galveston, Texas,
21:43when I was five years old. Isn't that right?
21:45In this scene, we learn why Sheldon has such disdain for the Christmas season,
21:49and more specifically, Jolly old Saint Nick.
21:52And my mother dragged me there, and she popped me down in your lap,
21:55and you asked me what I wanted for Christmas.
21:58And I told you, my Pop Pop, because that was the year my grandfather died.
22:02I missed him, and I wanted him back.
22:05Sheldon reveals that his grandfather was the only person in his family
22:08that encouraged him to pursue science when he was a kid,
22:11and that when his Pop Pop passed away, he asked Santa to bring him back,
22:16which, of course, didn't happen.
22:18Pop Pop was the only one in my family who encouraged me to pursue science.
22:22But you didn't bring him back, did you?
22:25No, instead, I got Lincoln Logs.
22:27Now, you can build a lot of neat things out of Lincoln Logs,
22:31but Pop Pop ain't one of them.
22:32It's a funny scene, but it's underlaid with real emotional sadness.
22:38Number 10, Lucy Breaks Up With Raj
22:40Although Raj seems to fall in love with pretty much any girl that looked his way,
22:44Lucy was the first girl he was probably truly in love with.
22:48I like you a lot, and that's scary for me.
22:51Mostly because you're a proven flight risk.
22:53Given her intense social anxiety, Raj had to work extra hard to get her to trust him
22:59and keep her from climbing out the nearest bathroom window.
23:02And he did.
23:03He was very understanding of her issues.
23:06He set up super romantic texting dates,
23:08and he was quick to apologise when he would push her too far out of her comfort zone.
23:12Oh no.
23:13Buddy, okay?
23:14But it wasn't enough.
23:16In the season 6 finale, Lucy agreed to meet the gang,
23:19but in the end, it was too much for her.
23:22And she broke up with Raj.
23:23Through text.
23:25Raj, I can't come to the party.
23:27This is all just too much for me.
23:30I don't think we should see each other anymore.
23:34Sorry, Lucy.
23:35Number 9, Sheldon Says No To Amy
23:38From the moment that Amy ended her relationship with Sheldon,
23:41fans were waiting for Shamey to get back together.
23:44I was thinking that, um, maybe I'm ready to be your girlfriend again.
23:49Needing a break from Sheldon was understandable,
23:51but these two were meant to be together.
23:53And most of us probably assumed that when Amy was ready to get back together,
23:57Sheldon would be too.
23:58Amy, I excel at many things, but getting over you wasn't one of them.
24:03But, alas, no.
24:05And it wasn't just the no that was sad.
24:08His honest reasoning about how hard it was for him to get over her
24:11is something that so many of us can relate to from both perspectives.
24:15I think I need to just be your friend.
24:20Okay.
24:22I understand.
24:23Number 8, The Last Supper
24:25As anyone who's ever lost someone knows,
24:27it isn't just sad when it happens.
24:29There are also moments that come along afterwards that bring back memories,
24:34and in doing so, bring the grief back up to the surface.
24:37Ma always kept it on hand in case I got sick.
24:43She thought she could cure anything with her cooking.
24:48That's exactly what happened to Howard after his mum died
24:50when the power went out at her house.
24:53Stuart was residing there at the time,
24:55and told Howard that it had been out since the middle of the night.
24:58On the surface, this might not sound like a big deal,
25:01but it was to Howard,
25:03since all the food his mother had left in the freezer was going to go bad.
25:07It's all defrosting.
25:09It's okay, it's just food.
25:10It's not just food.
25:14This is the last food my mother ever made.
25:16This, and his choice to organise a dinner,
25:18was portrayed in a heart-wrenchingly real way.
25:22Let's invite everyone over to dinner.
25:24It'll be like Ma's feeding us one last time.
25:27I love that.
25:30Number seven, Penny breaks up with Leonard.
25:33I think we should talk now.
25:35Well, no, it's okay.
25:37We don't have to talk, because there's nothing to talk about.
25:40Everything's good.
25:41Yes, they've had their ups and downs,
25:42almost break-ups and so on,
25:45and they were sad every time.
25:47But this is the one that hurt the most.
25:49It all began when Leonard told Penny he loved her for the first time,
25:53and Penny didn't return the sentiment.
25:54I love you, Penny.
26:07This is a tipping point moment in any relationship,
26:10and it was in this one as well.
26:12Leonard tried to play it cool and understanding
26:14about them being at different places in the relationship,
26:17but he wasn't,
26:18and he couldn't stop pressuring Penny about the unreturned L-bomb.
26:22And someday, we don't know when, maybe you'll love me back.
26:24Finally, with a little evil genius coaxing from Will Wheaton,
26:28she dropped the breakup bomb on Leonard,
26:31breaking his heart and ours.
26:33Tell me what to do, and I'll do it.
26:37No.
26:39This isn't fair to you, Leonard. I'm sorry.
26:41Number six, Stuart's comic book store burns down.
26:44At the beginning of the series,
26:46Stuart went on a couple of dates with Penny,
26:48and in the final season,
26:49he falls in love with a great girl,
26:51and they move in together.
26:53But in between those high points,
26:55Stuart had a whole lot of lows,
26:57and no moment was lower or sadder
26:59than when his comic book store burned down.
27:02What happened?
27:03I was cooking in the back room last night,
27:05and the hot plate caught on fire.
27:07For a guy who already seemed to be having a tough time with life,
27:10seeing his business destroyed felt like life really was picking on him.
27:14I don't mean to be rude, Sheldon,
27:16but my life is kind of falling apart right now.
27:18The studio audience's shocked and saddened reaction to the destruction
27:22is the perfect sonic representation
27:24of what we all felt in that moment.
27:28Number five, Sheldon is a selfish jerk.
27:31You are a selfish jerk.
27:33To hell with you and your Nobel Prize.
27:35Sheldon being selfish and inconsiderate
27:37was the source of much of the comedy of the show.
27:40But his selfishness hit a high point in the series finale.
27:43And it wasn't funny.
27:45You just found out that a woman who has loved and cared for you
27:48for 12 years is pregnant,
27:50and all you can say is to relieve that she's not going to get you sick.
27:54There's no need for a recap. I was there.
27:57The gang all went to Sweden to celebrate Sheldon and Amy
27:59winning the Nobel Prize.
28:01But before they got to the ceremony,
28:03Sheldon managed to selfishly piss off every one of his friends.
28:07So much so that they all considered leaving.
28:09Well, pull it together. This is a big day for me.
28:14Yeah, I wasn't sure what to do.
28:18Now I am. We're going home.
28:20The saddest moment came when Amy had to call him out
28:22and tell him that the reasons their friends were abandoning them
28:26was because he broke their hearts.
28:28They're abandoning us because you broke their hearts.
28:35I didn't mean to.
28:36I know.
28:38You never mean to.
28:41It's the only reason people tolerate you.
28:44Number 4. Professor Proton dies.
28:47Sheldon, I've got some bad news.
28:50What is it?
28:51I just read online that Arthur Jeffries passed away.
28:56Professor Proton was the host of a science show for kids
28:59back when Sheldon and Leonard were growing up.
29:01His importance to Sheldon during his younger, friendless years
29:04can't be overstated.
29:06You okay? I know he meant a lot to you.
29:09I'm fine.
29:10The guys become somewhat friendly with him at the end of season 6.
29:13But near the end of the seventh season,
29:16Professor Proton passed away.
29:18And now you're gone too.
29:21It's like all the men I've looked up to have gone away.
29:24At first, Sheldon acts like it doesn't affect him,
29:26not going to the funeral and focusing instead on Star Wars Day.
29:30But when Leonard returns from the funeral,
29:32Sheldon can't deny it anymore.
29:35Did you know that Arthur's son is a high school son?
29:37The pain and sadness that he's been trying to ignore
29:43comes out in a moment of heartache
29:46that anyone who has lost someone important to them
29:48can relate to.
29:50Number three, Leonard forgives his mother.
29:53Leonard's relationship, or lack thereof, with his mother
29:56was a source of many jokes throughout the run of the series.
29:59Have you calmed down?
30:00No, I'm not calm. You really heard me.
30:03That wasn't my intention.
30:04It doesn't matter what you intended.
30:07What matters is the way you made me feel.
30:09Actually, the way you've always made me feel.
30:11He's constantly looking for love, approval,
30:14and an emotional connection from his mother
30:16that never comes.
30:17Although in one of the final episodes,
30:19things seem to have changed,
30:21until Leonard realizes she was just doing it
30:23to gather information for a new book.
30:26This has all been work to you?
30:30Hanging out with me and coming to my lab?
30:32I thought we were enjoying each other's company,
30:36but it was just research.
30:37And that's when he, instead of trying to change his mother,
30:41decides to forgive her.
30:42It's a truly powerful moment,
30:45and as he speaks, you can see an emotional weight
30:47being lifted off his shoulders.
30:49I didn't ask you to forgive me.
30:51Too bad.
30:51I forgive you anyway.
30:54And I forgive myself for taking so long to do it.
30:58Oh my God, that feels so good.
31:00The scene ends with his mother giving him a hug.
31:03A real hug.
31:04Quite possibly for the first time ever.
31:07Number two, Amy breaks up with Sheldon.
31:10Can you believe it's been five years since our first date?
31:14I know.
31:16Do you think I should start watching the Flash TV show?
31:19As patient and understanding as Raj was with Lucy,
31:22Amy was ten times that when it came to her relationship with Sheldon.
31:26And there was no doubting that they both truly did love each other,
31:29which made their breakup that much sadder.
31:32This isn't easy to say because I love you,
31:36but I need some time to take a step back and re-evaluate our situation.
31:43This wasn't something Amy wanted to do or was happy to do.
31:47It was something that she needed to do,
31:49even though it was hurting her as much as Sheldon.
31:51I hope you understand.
31:57Okay.
31:59Bye, Sheldon.
32:00And as if that wasn't sad enough,
32:03this moment turns the sadness meter up to 11
32:06when we found out that Sheldon had a ring
32:08and was planning on proposing to Amy before she ended things.
32:13Well, Gollum.
32:16You're an expert on rings.

32:38Number one, Howard's mother dies.
32:41Hey, you okay?
32:41What?
32:43No.
32:45What's wrong?
32:47My mom died.
32:49For eight seasons,
32:50Howard's mother was just a loud, screeching voice coming from off screen.
32:54We never saw her face,
32:56but she was as important as almost anyone on the show.
32:59It's this dress!
33:00When I put my front in,
33:02my back pops out!
33:04After his father left when he was a young boy,
33:06Howard and his mom only had each other.
33:08Howard would make jokes about her dying,
33:10but there was never any doubt about how much he loved her.
33:13And so did we.
33:14This heartbreaking story was written in after Carol Ann Soucy,
33:18who plays Mrs. Wolowitz, passed away.
33:21So it was as much a gut punch for the actors as for the characters.
33:25That was my aunt.
33:28Ma took a nap.
33:31She never woke up.
33:34What the hell?
33:36If you didn't shed a tear at any of the other moments on this list,
33:39there is no way your eyes stayed dry for this episode.
33:43To Mrs. Wolowitz,
33:45loving mother
33:46to all of us.
33:51Which TBBT moments made your heart break?
33:53Let us know in the comments.
33:56Everybody hurts.
34:01Sometimes everybody cries.
