Large Section of Our Society Living in Medieval Times: Ex-NCW Member on Greater Noida Dowry Case
Transcript
00:00You know, first of all, because you're someone who've advocated for women's rights for so many
00:04years, what goes into your mind and heart when you see such kind of cases emerge again and again?
00:11See, the fact is that at one point of time, we say that we're supposed to be following the
00:17constitution of India and we are in 2025. But there's a whole large section of our society
00:24which is really living in medieval times. And the law has absolutely no meaning for them.
00:30They have total disregard for the law. So to implement the law and to follow the law is a big challenge.
00:38But this challenge has to be undertaken by one, the police who's the implementation, implementing agency
00:45and secondly, by the judiciary. But both are miserably failing in their task. Neither does the police
00:52arrest the culprit. It's so difficult for a girl who would, you know, how much difficulty for her to
00:59speak out. Whether it's a case of sexual abuse, whether it's rape, there's always a stigma or,
01:04or, you know, this kind of allegations of doubt. There's always a stigma. And for the girl to speak
01:10up and go to the police station, what do the police do? They do not register her. They do not register
01:18her complaint. And even if we have great difficulty, the complaint does get registered. The whole trial
01:25is so slow that it's very, all the witnesses start turning hostile. And the judiciary is totally collapsing
01:32because there's no, the laws may say time bound trial, but there is no time bound trial and judgments
01:40are reserved and delayed for months. So, I mean, this is a very, very sad reflection of our time of what is happening.
01:47This is a very, very bogus. Thank you.
01:53So, you know, today I will support you in your undisturbeds.
01:58You know, this is going to be not very, very, very good.
02:04You have to stop him and say, I am not very good.
