WorldSkills Asean Manila ends

The WorldSkills Asean Manila 2025 ended with a grand closing ceremony at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City on Saturday night.

Malaysia won 13 gold medals while the Philippines got 10, the first time the country got gold medals since the 2004 WorldSkills ASEAN competition.

In his speech and subsequent interview with The Manila Times, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Secretary Francisco Benitez highlighted the importance of skills training and technical-vocational education not only in the Philippines but also in the ASEAN region.

In interviews with the Manila Times, competitors and winners from Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore share their experience competing in the so-called Olympics of Skills and the friendship and camaraderie they formed along the way.

00:00This is the beginning of a stronger, bolder, more skilled as yet for generations to come.
00:08Congratulations to all winners.
00:11Mabuhay ang ating mga patataan.
00:13Mabuhay ang ating mga pagkagawa.
00:16Mabuhay ang asya.
00:30The first is really, as I said, everything is a skill.
00:37And it is now increasingly skills-based.
00:40The skills are your passport for your future.
00:43It's your passport for your jobs.
00:46But more importantly, it is actually an aspect of personal development and growth.
First time.
01:26Siyempre sir, masaya.
01:28Kasi hindi ko expect na aabot ako sa silver.
01:32Ang kita naman dito sa event na adaming bansa, adaming mga representatives and delegates.
01:36So I'm very proud of what I've accomplished.
01:39And lahat ng experiences at lahat ng hirap, very worth it.
01:42And deserve namin to.
01:44It was very exciting, very stressful, very pressuring.
01:48But overall it was just a great new experience.
01:51I was just speechless and nervous the whole time.
01:54But at the end of the day it just ended up becoming just an amazing experience.
01:59I found it quite exciting to be able to have a chance to go overseas and compete as well.
02:04Because it's my first time in this kind of setting.
02:05In this big of a scale of a setting as well.
02:07So it was a really good experience overall.
02:09And how was your competition experience?
02:12It was definitely tiring and stressful.
02:14But overall I do appreciate the opportunity and I'm happy with the friends I've made.
02:17Especially when you see the other competitors that we just took a photo of as well.
02:47I found it.
02:48The opportunity to share the opportunity.
02:54What are my customers that do to limit you?
02:59Where are people ever going to win?
