00:00Hello, I'm Nathan Judoim here with Wolves reporter, Mr Liam Keane.
00:12Liam, Wolverhampton Wanderers 2, Everton 3.
00:16And to be honest, the scoreline might suggest it was pretty close,
00:19but I think for large periods of this game, it wasn't.
00:22No, Everton are the better side.
00:24Everton are a better team than Wolves.
00:26Going forward, better options, defensively, more solid.
00:30Wolves scored two goals, but that doesn't really reflect the overall performance.
00:34You used a word to me when we were sat there in that second half
00:37that I think sums up the majority of that performance from Wolves' perspective,
00:40and it was abject.
00:42Not a lot going forward whatsoever,
00:44and the difference between these two teams on this particular occasion was the defence.
00:48Wolves, for all three goals, really, really poor defensively.
00:52The first two really avoidable with failing to defend your far post.
00:56But the third one is a story of this individual player's pre-season and season so far.
01:01Emmanuel Aguadu making a terrible mistake with the ball at his feet,
01:06giving the possession to Everton.
01:09And Wolves get slightly unfortunate that Dewsbury Hall's finish is a stunning finish
01:12off the underside of the bar.
01:14Jose Sar can't really do a lot more about it.
01:16But regardless, you've given a team an opportunity there to score a third goal in a second half
01:21when you're not playing very well, but still in it.
01:23And when Wolves did, you know, they were on the front foot towards the back end of the game
01:26and trying to get a winner.
01:27They had a final chance with Bedegaard getting a shot saved
01:31and Rodrigo Gomez putting it wide.
01:33But otherwise, that's as far as they, or as close as they came.
01:36Wolves deserve to lose this game today.
01:38And there were very worrying signs about this squad and this team moving forward.
01:43I mean, and I, juiced behold, Jack Grealish, you know, in behind, better.
01:48I mean, they are going to win a lot of games this season.
01:51That's a good sign.
01:52Everton are a good sign.
01:54But Jack Grealish today literally had the freedom of Molyneux.
01:58They backed off and backed off and backed off in a game and games like this
02:02where Vito Pereira wants them to be on the front foot.
02:04They want them to be, there was no pressing at the start of those first 20 minutes.
02:07They just backed away and then they go 1-0 down.
02:09You know, fair play to Huang.
02:11Delighted for him to score that goal, especially after Tuesday night.
02:14But Wolves then had a 20-minute spell where they really needed to get it going.
02:17And then that second goal just killed them.
02:19And again, a defensive error.
02:20Yeah.
02:21The far post of both of those first two goals, defending really poorly.
02:25The first one, very similar to Tuesday night against West Ham when Paqueta scored.
02:30On this occasion, it's a slightly different cross, but it's similar in the sense that
02:34Agbadoo has the player behind him, loses him.
02:37And the player that's behind, and on this occasion it was Totti, isn't communicating,
02:41isn't quick and alert enough to react to it.
02:43Both of those players, for me, are at fault.
02:45The same as it was Tuesday night when it was Mosquera and Agbadoo, in my opinion.
02:49Really avoidable goal.
02:50And then the second one is Hugo Bueno just falling asleep at the far post.
02:54Bueno, I thought, had an okay game today overall, but he has to defend way better than that.
02:59And then you've got, you know, you look across the pitch.
03:00And for me, I said this before the game on our podcast and, you know, analysing the game
03:04and previewing the game, this game would be won on the wings.
03:07How well Wolves could use their wing-backs offensively and how well they could defend
03:11against Everton's wingers.
03:12And as you say, Grealish ran the game and Dye scored, obviously.
03:17And going forward, balls offered nothing really from those wing-backs.
03:21Hugo Bueno for a little bit, but that was, you know, I'm being kind.
03:24Tatua, I thought a really poor game today, to be honest.
03:28Offensively, very quiet.
03:29And defensively, particularly in the second half before he came off,
03:32he was giving the ball away far too often.
03:35And Rodrigo Gomez, to his credit, comes on.
03:38Two goals in five days, you know.
03:39He does really well, actually. I mean, he's passionate.
03:43He's hard-working.
03:44He's busy.
03:45He's busy. He's desperate to impress.
03:47He comes on and he's harassing opposition players,
03:51trying to win the ball back, getting this crowd involved.
03:53He's the perfect kind of player to bring on in that kind of scenario.
03:55And it was the right substitution from Vito Pereira.
03:58And he was far better, actually, than Tatua on this occasion, in my opinion.
04:02Doesn't, you know, write Tatua off, because I think he did well in previous games,
04:05but just on this game in isolation.
04:08So for Wolves, defensively all over the place, they have to fix this defensive issue.
04:12You've got a man mounting like Aguiddu,
04:13who has been so good for this football club since he arrived in January,
04:16who is way off it.
04:18He's not even close to the same player right now.
04:20The player's in there.
04:21That player can put that performance in, but right now, he is miles off it.
04:25Matt Docher did rock today.
04:26Santiago Bueno came in.
04:28Krejci was going to come on towards the end,
04:29but then there was a bond with Hugo Bueno.
04:31Yeah.
04:31Didn't end up coming on.
04:32There's going to be a lot of changes in the defence,
04:34and there's going to be a lot of swaps,
04:35and, you know, you've got to look at Aguiddu,
04:37and people are saying, well,
04:38Aguiddu will go across to the right,
04:39Krejci will come into the middle.
04:40Like, if you're picking a side at this moment in time,
04:42Aguiddu should be nowhere near that starting line-up,
04:44because again and again and again,
04:46they've gone six, seven, eight games in a row,
04:48come all the way back to pre-season,
04:50the games that you've seen there.
04:51He is way under par.
04:52I don't know what you do with him.
04:53I mean, I assume he's going away potentially for international duty.
04:56I'm not sure.
04:56You might know better than me,
04:57but you need to get him on the training ground.
04:59You need to knock this out of him,
05:01because it is really worrying for someone
05:04who was so indispensable in that second half of the season last year.
05:07Yeah.
05:08I still have every confidence that he's a very, very good footballer,
05:11but he's not showing any signs right now of doing it,
05:13and we have to analyse what we see in front of us,
05:15and what we see in front of us is a player who, I repeat,
05:18is miles off it at the moment.
05:20I think Matt Doherty is very unfortunate to be dropped.
05:24However, I understand the decision,
05:25because I think Santi Bueno has done pretty well in the last couple of games.
05:28I don't think he did particularly badly today, Santi.
05:30Of course, not an ideal performance or scenario,
05:33conceding three goals,
05:34but I don't think he was particularly bad.
05:35Probably the best of those three centre-halves, actually, again.
05:39But Agba Doherty is just nowhere near it,
05:41and it's a really tough decision for VTOL to make,
05:43because based on performances,
05:45Agba Doherty comes out.
05:46Based on what we know he can be,
05:48and what he does bring to this team,
05:50when he's at his best,
05:52he's an impossible player to take out.
05:53So what do you do?
05:54That's going to be food for thought now for VTOL
05:56in these next couple of weeks,
05:57before we travel all the way to Newcastle
05:59for a very, very tough game.
06:01The next couple of weeks,
06:01what about the next couple of days?
06:02Because that's what everybody's waiting to hear,
06:06whether they can get players over the line,
06:07whether they can keep certain players.
06:09It's a big 48 hours plus for this football club.
06:11It really is.
06:12They're not good enough at this moment in time, are they?
06:14No, no, no.
06:14They're trying to get the Genk striker over the line.
06:17I think there's confidence that that will get done
06:18in the next couple of days.
06:19They want a midfielder.
06:21The midfielders are light still, in my opinion.
06:23Most likely a homegrown one,
06:24unless there's any other departures.
06:25Of course, the last thing is ongoing.
06:27He wasn't playing today.
06:29VTOL Pro was citing his Achilles issue,
06:31which has been a genuine issue,
06:32but citing that as the reason for him not playing.
06:35People can read into that what they will.
06:37But the player obviously wanted the move,
06:39and Newcastle are still interested in that move.
06:42And as it stands,
06:44it's a huge couple of days to balance this squad
06:47and give it some more attacking depth,
06:49because that front three today is anemic at the very best.
06:53And I know Grant's going to be pleased for him,
06:55but that is not a front three that's going to get you out of trouble.
06:57Wolves have to have different players starting up on top of them.
06:59And the worrying part for me, Liam,
07:00is that we know that Wolves are going to be in a,
07:03let's be honest, a relegation battle this season.
07:05We've always said that they're going to be in a bottom six side
07:07because of the squad they've got.
07:08Whether they keep Jorgenström, Larsson or not,
07:09whether they get this player over the line,
07:11not a strike over the line,
07:12maybe a midfield over the line,
07:13I still think they were a bottom six side.
07:14That's worrying.
07:15But if you're going to struggle this season,
07:17what you need to do as a struggling side
07:18is you need to make your home ground a fortress.
07:22They've played two games at Molyneux in the Premier League
07:24and they've conceded seven goals.
07:26You cannot do that.
07:27Manchester City, anyone can score.
07:29Manchester, they can score four against anyone.
07:31But when you're conceding three against Everton,
07:33this is where the problems lie.
07:34And they're going to need Molyneux.
07:36They're going to need this crowd,
07:37which they got involved in the game
07:38in a couple of periods today.
07:40They're going to need that.
07:41But for me,
07:41they've got to give them something to cheer about
07:43and they're not giving them anywhere near enough.
07:45Yeah, they'll definitely need these fans.
07:47And when they're on it,
07:47the fans are fantastic.
07:49But the players have to do their bit for that to happen.
07:51And on occasion they did.
07:52And Vitor and his assistant,
07:54Luis Miguel,
07:54are down there
07:55and trying to get everyone involved.
07:56And it works
07:57when there's quality on the ball
07:59and the quality is not there at the moment.
08:02It comes back again to that front three.
08:04There's no link back to midfield.
08:05Andre Njal Gomez did okay,
08:08but okay at best probably today.
08:09I don't think they were bullied
08:10or harassed or overrun by any means,
08:12but they did make a massive impact
08:13on the game for me.
08:15They've got to do more.
08:16And again,
08:16it's the wing backs.
08:17You've got someone like Tatchewan
08:18who's rapid
08:19and can run into space.
08:21And Wolves very rarely found him.
08:23So there's a lot of work to fill in this team.
08:25The worrying thing about me,
08:26Liam,
08:26and by the way,
08:26just a word for Phil,
08:27because I think came on
08:28and looked pretty good today as well.
08:30But bar Andre,
08:31who got dropped by the way against Bournemouth,
08:33but I would say bar Andre and Njal Gomez,
08:35every one of these,
08:36the rest of this 11,
08:37you could swap in and swap out.
08:39I don't think Beto knows at all
08:40what his best team is at the moment.
08:41How can you when you've seen this?
08:42Every single one of those other players,
08:44you could put one,
08:45two or three players in their position.
08:47That's the worrying thing.
08:48They need to find a recipe that works.
08:50Yeah,
08:51I think it's fair.
08:53And I can't really tell you
08:54what that recipe is.
08:55No,
08:55no.
08:55I don't envy the job
08:58and the decision to make for Beto
09:01because it seems light.
09:03Numbers-wise,
09:04it's not particularly light at the moment.
09:06It's light on quality, Liam.
09:07It's light on quality.
09:07Very light on quality.
09:09And that's where
09:10these next couple of days
09:11are going to be massive.
09:12It's going to be a really busy
09:13and big couple of days
09:14for Wolves and the transfer window
09:15and they need to keep Larson.
09:16They need to keep Larson.
09:18They need to stand by their decision.
09:20And if they don't,
09:22which fear the worst?
09:23I fear the worst.
09:24It would be a major,
09:25major risk if they let him go.
09:27Wolves 2, Everton 3.
