00:00These are employees at a Kanarab bank branch in Kerala's Kochi feasting on beef and parota
00:06to protest the alleged beef ban imposed by the new regional manager from North India.
00:14The manager, reportedly from Bihar, allegedly instructed the canteen staff to stop serving
00:19beef which was earlier available on selected days. Employees described this as mental
00:24harassment and an attack on their personal food choices.
00:27Later, the Bank Employees' Federation of India, BEFI, served beef and parota right
00:32outside the manager's office as a mark of protest.
00:43Independent MLA Katie Zalil praised the protests asserting what to eat, where or think shouldn't
00:49be decided by superiors. This isn't new. In 2017, beef fests swept across Kerala in protests
00:56against central restrictions on cattle sales. FYI, Article 48 of our Constitution urges states to
01:03safeguard cattle, but regulations vary by state. Kerala has no restriction on cattle slaughter,
01:09unlike many states where cow protection laws exist.
