00:06Well, yes, the U.N. snapback sanctions mechanism is embedded in U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231,

00:15which endorsed the original Iran nuclear deal.

00:18And that allows a JCPOA participant to invoke the snapback sanctions mechanism.

00:26So in the event of significant noncompliance, Iran's regime has not been complying with the JCPOA for years now.

00:36And the E3 has given Iran every opportunity and every off ramp to resolve this matter diplomatically.

00:43But the snapback sanctions mechanism itself expires in October of 2025.

00:49So only a couple of months from today.

00:51And so the E3 has to invoke that provision in advance of the expiration.

00:58And so that is why it is doing so.
