00:00That song was written at
00:28john lennon's former house in tittenhouse park just outside of london with tom allen on the
00:36british steel sessions and we had about thirty days to write and record that album there was a
00:52time in the uk particularly at the end of the seventies and the early eighties when this country
00:57was just there was riots going on there was strikes going on there was a lot of pissed off
01:03people in this country rightfully so as a lyricist i'm always picking up on what's going on around me
01:15and i just remember seeing the news that night and seeing all this stuff kicking off and it just
01:21made me feel about um another area of the news which was that there was all these problems with
01:28young people leaving school or university or college had been promised a job there had been said you
01:37know you complete all this and do all this you'll you'll you know there'll be an opportunity to do
01:42this and there wasn't which is sadly a bit like today's world
01:47the knee-jerk reaction for some people is to not exactly break the law but kick back at the system
01:57so we we wrapped up that idea around this breaking the law there i was completely wasted out of working
02:04down well there's your statement right away you you're acknowledging a portion of society that's
02:12really you know having a tough time in life it's almost a protest song but it's just a very vibrant
02:24uplifting um moment for priests in our metal world and it's become legendary
02:42breaking the law it's in us all not only the love of that priest song but what that song represents
02:52breaking the law
