Zelenskyy seeks talks with Trump and European leaders to discuss slow progress of peace efforts

Zelenskyy accuses Russia of dragging out negotiations, including by putting off a summit with the argument that the groundwork for a possible peace settlement must be thrashed out first by lower-level officials.

00:00Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky says that officials from Kyiv want to meet with
00:06his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump and European leaders next week to discuss ways to end Russia's
00:12more than three-year full-scale invasion. The proposed meetings appear to be aimed at adding
00:18momentum to the push for peace, as Zelensky expressed frustration with what he called
00:22Russia's lack of constructive engagement in the process. Trump has recently expressed annoyance
00:28at Russian President Vladimir Putin's stalling on a U.S. proposal for direct peace talks with
00:33Zelensky. He also noted that he'll decide on next steps, which could include withdrawal of U.S.
00:39efforts, within two weeks if direct talks aren't scheduled. Zelensky says Andrei Yermak, the head of
00:45Ukraine's presidential office, is expected to meet with Trump envoy Steve Witkoff in New York next week
00:51to discuss preparations. He's also renewed accusations of Putin's insincerity to the peace process,
00:58while reminding everyone that Ukraine has accepted a U.S. ceasefire proposal and direct talks with
01:04Moscow, both of which the Kremlin has raised objections to.
