00:00Welcome to our latest purchase.
00:03I think you're not going to enjoy this one, Shay.
00:05I'm pre-apologizing.
00:07Yeah, this one's really, really bad.
00:09But I will say the front exterior is very charming.
00:17It doesn't look super bad, and then you walk in,
00:20and you realize that it's really bad.
00:24I'm concerned about all of the holes in the roof.
00:28We only spent $400 to $500 on it.
00:31So it's not like it was expensive.
00:33What's the square footage?
00:34$1,100.
00:35Yeah.
00:36It's pretty small-ish.
00:37It looks big.
00:38It does look bigger than that, right?
00:40How many bedrooms do you know?
00:42Three. No.
00:43It's listed as 3-1, but is that not true?
00:45Well, maybe three, but I'm going to call it a 2-1.
00:48Is the upstairs not?
00:49You don't think the upstairs will count?
00:52It's tricky.
00:53Well, we have to make it count, obviously.
00:55Because it's only 1,100 square feet,
00:56and trying to cram in another bathroom and a bedroom
01:00somewhere is going to be like a disaster.
01:02You need that 3-2 to sell these houses.
01:06I agree.
01:07All right, you want to see inside?
01:08Not really, but it's what I signed up for.
01:11You've got your galoshes on, right?
01:13Galoshes.
01:13You're going to need them.
01:14You're going to need them.
01:23What a dump.
01:25I don't know where on earth we are supposed
01:29to stand in this house.
01:30On the pile of trash.
01:32Channel your inner goat.
01:34Ah!
01:36Oops.
01:37Sorry.
01:45Detroit is a city of diamonds in the rough.
01:48Doesn't that look fun?
01:49You're going to be tromping through some stuff.
01:51So we snap up the most rundown houses on the block.
01:54That is some wet wood.
01:55And turn them into stylish, affordable starter homes.
01:59This is beautiful.
02:05I'm Keith.
02:06This is so nice.
02:07And I'm Evan.
02:09It's giving the people what they want.
02:11This is great.
02:12Together with our real estate agent and friend Shea.
02:14I love you so much.
02:16This is going to sell this house.
02:18We're helping rebuild Detroit one block at a time.
02:21Oh my god, I love it.
02:23Wow.
02:24I'm not leaving without the keys to this place.
02:29I can't do this.
02:33Look how small this bedroom is.
02:35Someone was a business person in here.
02:39Well, all those computer monitors.
02:40Entrepreneur.
02:41Yes, files.
02:43Like a whole office situation.
02:46This is a disaster.
02:48What kind of janky ass house did you buy?
02:50Can we just talk about how small this bedroom is?
02:54This is a very small room.
02:56This is ridiculous.
02:58I mean, but honestly, it's the cleanest room in the house.
03:01It's true.
03:01Mm-hmm.
03:02So I think this is a dining room.
03:07Ew, this is so disgusting.
03:09The water damage is obviously very severe.
03:12Yeah, the framing work is extensive on this one.
03:14Probably 50% at least.
03:16So it's going to be a tricky one.
03:19The bathroom is over here for some reason.
03:22Where is it?
03:23Why would you put the bathroom right there?
03:25So weird to me.
03:26Can we just reconfigure this entire thing?
03:29And the whole ceiling is falling in.
03:31So don't get fucked up in there.
03:33Key, this is a terrible house.
03:35And look at this kitchen.
03:36This is like the tiniest kitchen ever.
03:39This is a kitchen?
03:40And this is not a kitchen.
03:41This is a closet.
03:42It's a disaster.
03:43Everything's getting ripped down.
03:45Did you walk on this bridge?
03:47Yes, take the bridge.
03:47But I think that's as far as you come, Shay.
03:51I'll just hang out here.
03:52What's it like up there, Keith?
03:53You don't mind.
03:54I mean, it's bad.
03:56Obviously, very bad.
03:58Can I come?
03:58Can I come up here, Keith?
03:59Sure, dude.
04:00Just be careful.
04:01And the landing is really bad in this particular spot.
04:03Oh, like right here.
04:07Shay was not able to go upstairs because of her glitter boots.
04:11Mm-hmm.
04:12They're too glittery.
04:13They're super glitters.
04:15The structure is not quite safe enough to have Shay up there.
04:18If someone's going to follow through the floor,
04:20it's going to be Keith.
04:22Watch where you step.
04:24But there's one, two.
04:27Watch your back right there.
04:29Technically, there's three bedrooms up here,
04:31but they're kind of like shotgun style.
04:33So is there a space to add a bathroom?
04:36I don't know that you could get three bedrooms up here
04:38with a bathroom.
04:39Well, you have a bedroom on the first floor, technically.
04:42Should we just pop the whole back of it to get these two eaves,
04:45since it all has to get reframed?
04:46And how would that help you, though?
04:47Because you get the eaves.
04:49You get huge amounts of space on the eaves.
04:51That's not that much space, though.
04:53That's a bathroom size if it's all standing up straight.
04:55And then that's more than enough space
04:57to get three bedrooms up here.
04:59OK.
04:59So that is how we could fix it.
05:04Be careful.
05:06This house is going to have a pretty substantial reno budget.
05:08I'm probably thinking 130 to 140.
05:11What does that face?
05:13It's a lot.
05:14The entire back roof needs to be completely taken off and reframed.
05:18So it's really not that much more money
05:21to just rebuild it and pop it.
05:23Nice.
05:23So that way, we can do two up in a bathroom or three up.
05:31I'm going to try to do three and two bathrooms upstairs
05:35and a half bath down here.
05:36And then no bedroom down here.
05:38And take this bedroom out.
05:40And make it a bigger kitchen.
05:41And kitchen, dining, make this whole floor living space.
05:46Oh, that just increased the sellability factor.
05:49Yeah.
05:49All right, Shay.
05:50So you're going to help us with the cleanup or what?
05:52It depends.
05:54Are you starting that today?
05:55Because it depends.
06:00I have to get mentally prepared.
06:03Because you know I'm all about all hands on deck.
06:05Mm-hmm.
06:06Mm-hmm.
06:07Teamwork makes the dream work.
06:11This is true.
06:19I just found out because of my numerology book
06:23that my past karmas were being lazy.
06:27Oh, wow.
06:28This life has made me work really hard to overcome being lazy.
06:33So I'm stuck in your karmic hole.
06:36You also have the same karmic hole.
06:38I did your numbers, too.
06:39We were gravitated together because apparently we were so lazy in the last life.
06:45Your mother's part of the problem, too.
06:46I'm just going to say it.
06:50Demo day.
06:51It's not really even demo day.
06:53It's more just clean up the trash day.
06:56It's basically a trash pile, a landfill, and a demolition zone all in one.
07:02So I think I have an idea for the theme.
07:04What?
07:05This is a business house.
07:07It's not a theme.
07:08Yes, it is.
07:09No, it's not.
07:10It's not a design theme.
07:11It's like a house for a professional that works from home.
07:16That's a function.
07:17It's not really an aesthetic.
07:19Like a mid-century office, you know, vibe like with the 60s.
07:23Oh, that's a theme.
07:24Wood paneling.
07:25That's a theme.
07:26It's easy to design, actually.
07:28It's such an iconic aesthetic, you know?
07:30This was an office at one time, and when I think of like the chicest office I know,
07:34I think of like Mad Men.
07:36Kind of this mid-century, very sleek, very modern.
07:41I'm imagining blonde wood, low-slung furniture, and very clean lines.
07:45Kind of masculine styling.
07:47It'll be a contemporary take on a classic, modern style.
07:51We'll refrain from the cigarette-laden drywall smell.
07:55Yeah.
08:15What is up with all the monitors?
08:17I think they were running some kind of office out of here.
08:20Oh, yeah.
08:21It was like a mortgage company or something.
08:23All these circuit boards everywhere.
08:26I love circuit boards.
08:27I love the idea of finding them to turn into art pieces.
08:31Tiny little...
08:34You know how I love that.
08:35You soldered?
08:36I love soldering.
08:37You soldered on a computer board?
08:39Oh, all over the place.
08:40I soldered everywhere.
08:49Oh!
08:52We're making progress.
08:55You can see the floor.
08:56We haven't even made a dent.
09:00Oh!
09:00What a nightmare.
09:13What a nightmare.
09:17Oh, my God.
09:17This is going to take forever.
09:18Well, if you want to lose, get that summer bod.
09:24This will do it.
09:40Does that look level to you, Keith?
09:43Yep.
09:44Looks good.
09:45This house is small, but we finally settled on a layout that will
09:48make it work.
09:49Upstairs, we can really only fit two bedrooms and a bathroom,
09:52so we're keeping the tiny bedroom on the first floor.
09:55It should be a good office for someone who doesn't want to just
09:57flood their whole house with computer monitors and files.
10:00We're moving the new kitchen to where the dining room used to be
10:03and swapping the space that used to be the old kitchen
10:05for the dining room.
10:07I feel like it's really small for pretty much everything,
10:10but including a dining room.
10:12It is pretty small.
10:13So I'm wondering how you want to deal with that.
10:15I was thinking of doing a banquet.
10:17Okay.
10:17So a built-in that gives you the full corner to shove the table into.
10:22Also, maybe some kind of feature here,
10:24just so it doesn't feel something.
10:25Like a storage cabinet or something?
10:26Hmm.
10:27What if we did uppers for like a buffet,
10:31and then we did like shelving, like cool mid-century shelving or something?
10:35Okay, I like that.
10:36Like a floating buffet.
10:38Be nice.
10:39Okay, I'll do that, and then I'll do that little like float-out shelf above it.
10:44What is a float-out shelf?
10:45So it's like different pieces of wood that interlace together at different waves that are cut on the CNC.
10:49What does that mean?
10:50It's a wall.
10:52It's not descriptive at all what you just said.
10:53I thought that was extremely descriptive.
10:55Different pieces of wood that interweave.
10:57I said lace together.
10:58I said I did a grid.
10:59They like slot together.
11:02They slot together.
11:03What is like this?
11:04This.
11:05What?
11:05Is that a shelf?
11:06Yes, the shelves.
11:07This one would be like locked into this one.
11:10Oh, so it's like a grid of shelves.
11:11So like cubbies.
11:14Sure.
11:15Cubbies.
11:16Is it like cubbies?
11:17Yeah, and then I can artfully display a few things on it.
11:20We'll float some linear cabinets to make a buffet with some custom shelving
11:24and use the CNC to make banquette seating and table to fit in the corner.
11:28In the end, it's going to be a classic stylish dining room.
11:31Great.
11:31I like having a plan.
11:32That's going to be really great.
11:42Hey, hey.
11:43What's up, man?
11:43Y'all all right?
11:44Yes, sir.
11:45How's it going?
11:46Trying to get this tub for the upstairs together.
11:50Nice.
11:50Yeah, let me tell you all about this stuff real quick.
11:52I see another pipe sticking into my kitchen chair.
11:55I'm sorry.
11:56I'm sorry, man.
11:57I was trying.
11:58I got it as tight as I could.
12:00No, it looks really good.
12:01You actually did a really sharp job on the placement.
12:03I'm not worried about that too much.
12:04OK.
12:05We just don't have cabinets in this spot.
12:08What I think we need to do is just add a short wall just to kind of hide that.
12:11OK, yeah, like a little curve up.
12:13Yeah.
12:13And go up like that.
12:14Something just as a detail.
12:16I'll make it work as usual.
12:19What is the theme of this house?
12:20Mid-century.
12:22Mid-century?
12:23Yeah.
12:23What do you think of swords, axes?
12:25No, no.
12:26No, no.
12:27Shields, war.
12:28Is that, are you joking?
12:29No, that's what I'm thinking about, you know, back then.
12:33Mid-century modern.
12:34Mid-century modern?
12:35Oh, mid-century.
12:36I'm thinking, uh, what's that?
12:38What's that, uh?
12:39Medieval?
12:39Medieval.
12:40Back then, you know, with the axes, like, yeah, you got your shields.
12:43I don't know.
12:47You know what?
12:48That sounds good, don't you?
12:50I might do them any while.
12:51Yeah, medieval.
12:53Mid-century, that would be...
12:54Sleek, low furniture.
12:56OK.
12:57That's nice.
12:58Leather.
12:59That's way off of what I was thinking.
13:02So we're doing wood cabinets.
13:03OK.
13:04A really sleek, like, countertop, like, white countertop.
13:07OK.
13:08Mid-century tile.
13:10And now we're doing a banquette in a dining.
13:13Wait a minute.
13:14What?
13:14What has happened to you?
13:16Oh, my banquette.
13:19HVAC is protruding.
13:20Here we go.
13:20No.
13:21Not my banquette.
13:22Yeah, banquette going there.
13:24Yeah, I wish I would have known.
13:26How hard would it be to just leave it there
13:28and build out a corner wall like this to hide this?
13:32Uh-oh.
13:33It's just taking up a lot of space.
13:34No, you're not.
13:35I mean, it's dead space anyway in the corner of a room.
13:37It's better to have that in a corner
13:39than just some box if we can help it.
13:41And then, again, I can build the banquette to float around.
13:44And it's pretty.
13:45My point is that this was really tight,
13:47like, extremely tight.
13:48Let me say what the easiest part would be.
13:50This is the easiest way.
13:51OK.
13:52Put it over here, run it through that dead space,
13:54and put it in the wall.
13:55Ah!
13:56I was going to do that, but I was like,
13:58I was like, which corner was better?
13:59All right, that's perfect.
14:00Just do that.
14:01I got you.
14:02Don't worry about it.
14:04We in there like swimwear.
14:09When we were thinking about how we can help this neighborhood more than just flipping homes,
14:30one of the things that stuck out to us is,
14:31how can we help the homeowners who have been here through everything?
14:35And one of the major things that we see time and time again is that homeowners' houses
14:40start to fall apart as soon as the roof fails.
14:41So today, we are announcing the recipients of the Roof to Block initiative that we started
14:47to give away as many roofs in Detroit as we could in the neighborhoods that we're working in.
14:52I know you're excited to know if you're going to be getting a new roof or not,
14:55and so we are going to get on with it with the big announcement.
14:59I have to put a bucket there.
15:01The winter, I literally cried because I just shut the bedroom door and just cried.
15:08I had nothing, nothing I could do.
15:10I got a quote for $25,000, and I don't have that.
15:16About two years ago, I noticed that I needed a new roof.
15:20I did get a couple of prices, and the prices were off the chain.
15:25Yeah, off the roof. I cannot afford a new roof.
15:29Thank you. Guys, thank you so much for being here.
15:34This is really exciting for us to see all of this come together.
15:38A lot of work has gone into this, and a lot of partners had to come in to help us pull it off.
15:43We had over 450 people donate, and six or seven corporations jump in to help us.
15:49So it was a really big effort.
15:51There's a lot of amazing people that call this neighborhood home.
15:55I really appreciate everybody that's put in an application,
15:58because you're the ones that really make this place special to us.
16:02So we have 14 homeowners and families here tonight.
16:08Can we have all of the finalists come forward?
16:12All the homeowners, please come a little bit closer. Thank you.
16:15Thank you. This is the big moment. Who is getting the roof? We have a list here.
16:24The families that are getting the roof are...
16:32We have a list here. The families that are getting the roof are...
16:37There is no list. You're all getting one.
16:52Congratulations.
16:59Oh my gosh.
16:59Oh, I'm so happy.
17:05I am very, very happy. I feel like, okay, I'm about to live my best life.
17:11Basically, I'm getting $20,000. A new roof? It's kind of like a dream, sort of.
17:19That is awesome.
17:20Can I get another roof?
17:21Thank you. Thank you so much.
17:34They didn't tell us until today, so I was kind of on the fence. But when I found out,
17:41I started crying. And I'm not a crier.
17:46It's a lot.
17:46Yes, it's a blessing. And I appreciate it. I'm sorry.
17:55Thank you. You're welcome. You deserve it.
18:01Oh my goodness.
18:03I didn't expect the emotional roller coaster that it turned out to be a little bit for me. I was
18:08expecting to be like, yay. But then the yay turned into like, everybody's crying all of a sudden.
18:14I was just like, oh, well, now I'm crying.
18:17You guys, that concludes the program. But it's not over yet. We're going to invite each of you in
18:22for a design console with Keith and Evan.
18:24I love these cabinets. They're fantastic. They look very mid-century and right on.
18:50But modern, though, too. I mean, it's like a modern, mid-century modern.
18:56We're setting cabinets in a half-dry-walled room. I'm pretty sure people probably think we're crazy,
19:01you know? But there's a reason for the madness.
19:04We're wanting to have this open house in like roughly two weeks from now, which is essentially
19:10how long the countertops take. And then we finish the rest of the house. Countertops go in. We quickly
19:16do the backsplash, and then the house is done. It looks crooked as hell. How bad?
19:22Half-inch? I mean, it continues to get worse. So actually, by the time you get to this corner,
19:27you're going to be at an inch.
19:31Whenever you're dealing with an old house that's not a new build,
19:34you sometimes are dealing with wonky floors.
19:37Old houses. Yeah.
19:44Nice. Looks fine, so. Continue.
19:52Hey, hey. Hey, Jay. You doing good?
19:55I'm going good. Going good.
19:57Good. Hey, I can understand that. I just ran one wall up. Everything's good?
20:02It's crooked as .
20:04Hold up. If you pull that cabinet out, I can get to the bottom, and it's going to be square.
20:10See, these walls are messed up up there.
20:12We had Jay build out a short wall at the end of the kitchen cabinets. As we got closer and closer,
20:17it kind of became obvious that the wall was not, you know, square.
20:21Someone didn't use a square.
20:23You didn't use a framing square.
20:24I put my square up there at the bottom.
20:27Did you?
20:28I put my square at the bottom.
20:29Oh, I hear you.
20:32That ain't...
20:34That don't look like it to me.
20:38I don't know where that's going on.
20:40I knew he didn't use that square, but he insisted.
20:42Jay's a smooth talker, but those tricks don't work on the best smooth talker.
20:49Yeah, it's all right.
20:51We wanted to look on at the time.
20:53Uh-huh, yeah.
20:53It was.
20:55I know.
20:56The wall is the craziest hammer over here.
20:58Look at this level straight like this.
21:00I know, Jay.
21:02I know.
21:05Jay and I are very similar.
21:07More similar than I would like to admit, I must admit.
21:09You should be able to kick it over really easily.
21:12You need about an inch.
21:14Nice.
21:15A little bit.
21:16One more.
21:17Great.
21:18There.
21:18Perfect.
21:19See it?
21:19That's perfect.
21:20I got it.
21:20Good job.
21:20Good job.
21:21All right, easy peasy.
21:23Let's do it.
21:28Cool.
21:29Cool.
21:29It's textured too, it's not just a print.
21:45I like this color too.
21:46Me too.
21:47So I'm going to do this pattern across of these two different colors of this tile.
21:54Is this the knot that you and Cheryl designed?
21:56Yeah.
21:57That little knot shape of the two different types.
21:59So it'll be two ribbons running, and then they'll knot together and then continue.
22:04That's what this is, right?
22:05Yes.
22:06That's sweet.
22:07Isn't that a cool design?
22:08God, it's so mid-century.
22:10You have this go down like that.
22:13So in this case, it would go, you'd come down, and then there'd be another one here.
22:18Yeah.
22:19And then this would then turn again.
22:21Go like that, and then you'd go like that.
22:24Pretty easy.
22:25Wow.
22:26I love this tunnel.
22:27I really, really love this tunnel.
22:28I think this is going to be a really cool looking bathroom.
22:31I feel like I have been letting my crazy design get a little too neutral.
22:37This is neutral.
22:38This is going to be sweet.
22:39I know, I agree.
22:40All right.
22:41How often have you seen a shower that has a design like that in tile?
22:55That's custom.
22:56It is pretty custom.
22:57Very cool.
22:58So what have we been thinking about this built-in?
23:14For these built-ins, I figured we could just make a bunch of boxes, or I don't know what
23:18you're really thinking there.
23:19Yeah.
23:20In the dining room, I want to add a little bit of a mid-century flair with a hanging wall
23:24shelf.
23:25It'll complement our built-in and our little buffet moment.
23:29This front or side?
23:32This is front.
23:33Thank you, Cheryl.
23:34See, she gets me.
23:35So from the front, you'll have a shelf that kind of does this, this, and this.
23:40Okay.
23:41There's two connecting points that are kind of like this.
23:44So this is just a rectangular piece of plywood that's like.
23:48It's not rectangular.
23:49These aren't rectangular?
23:51No, those are like this.
23:53I thought those were the vertical ones.
23:55They're both wavy.
23:57Oh, they're all wavy.
23:59Got it.
24:00How much weight are you expecting this to hold?
24:02It'll hold five to 10 pounds.
24:04So you can't put like books and stuff on?
24:06No, I don't.
24:07It's not for books.
24:08It's like little odd trinkety things that are mid-century.
24:10Mid-century is about low clutter, small objets, like little things like that.
24:14I'm just saying like we can do better than five to 10 pounds if we just design it correctly.
24:19It's not a built-in.
24:20That's such a dramatic word for it.
24:22It is a floating shelf.
24:23So it's like art.
24:25If you must categorize it, yes.
24:29Sometimes I really love that I get to work for this corporate structure that has no bureaucratic red tape.
24:36And then I realize that Evan is the bureaucratic red tape.
24:43I just don't want to do a picture hook for a shelving.
24:46That's just not sufficient, you know?
24:48So like let's just come up with a better way to hang it that's stronger.
24:52It is sufficient.
24:53You do not have to overbuild everything, Mr. Build-A-Man.
24:57Cheryl, settle this.
24:58Okay.
24:59We're gonna come up.
25:00I'm going to model it up.
25:01Uh-huh.
25:02And then we can see how we can hang it.
25:04Cheryl is the intermediary between Evan and I's communication breakdowns.
25:09Cheryl fundamentally understands me because she is patient when I am describing things.
25:21I can't wait until this is done and you see how simple it is and you're like, oh.
25:25Because that happens literally almost every single time.
25:27You're like, oh.
25:28You make that face and that sound and you're like, oh.
25:32Because this is, you're overcomplicating it, Mr. Physics Man.
25:34Like, this is just a simple little cute little hanging shelf thing that complements a buffet.
25:39Or I guess, can we, we can get those heavy duty hooks that hold.
25:41Oh, my God.
25:42If we get ones that are like 50 pounds each and you do two of them, then we can, that'll probably work.
25:47All right.
25:48Well, apparently Evan's going to be doing acrobatics on the shelf, so please design accordingly.
25:51Okay.
25:52Hi.
25:53Hello, welcome.
25:54How are you?
25:55Nice to meet you guys.
25:56Well, I gotta tell you, I love your house.
25:58There's something really pretty about your landscaping too, I think.
25:59And it kind of has some, a little bit more of a fun mix of colors.
26:13So I kind of like the plum.
26:15This is a little darker, but it's got a little bit of the blue and a little bit of the red.
26:19Oh, do it.
26:20Okay.
26:21That goes with your bushes.
26:22This is the neighborhood that we've worked in almost exclusively for about two years now.
26:27How long have you lived here?
26:28Uh, 33 years.
26:2933 years.
26:30Wow.
26:31There's a shingle that I love, I think would go really well with this.
26:35I like it.
26:36There's obviously a lot of abandoned houses, but there's also a lot of homeowners too.
26:40That is going to look really, really nice on there.
26:42Yeah.
26:43Yeah, I like it lighter.
26:44Yeah.
26:45Lighter?
26:46Yeah, it works.
26:47All right.
26:48I love.
26:49Being able to directly give back to some of these homeowners has been really rewarding
26:54for us.
26:55I think we'll find some good mid-century finds.
27:02I don't know.
27:03Don't let us down, restore.
27:04Don't let us down.
27:05I already see something.
27:06I know.
27:07That's closer to a mid-century couch, but it's a different vibe.
27:08There's one type of shopping that I actually care to do and it's thrifting.
27:14These crocodile side tables are everything.
27:15That's actually, those are pretty cool.
27:16Oh, it's a swivel.
27:17We really did get woken up on Saturday morning very early as kids and out the door to garage sales and thrift stores on Saturday.
27:18Like you had to get there early to get the best stuff.
27:19This is pretty mid-century, super mid-century.
27:20This is super mid-century.
27:21This is really cute.
27:22That is cute.
27:23Here, pull this one aside so nobody gets it.
27:24It's a good thing.
27:25I don't know.
27:26You know, there's one type of shopping that I actually care to do and it's thrifting.
27:29These crocodile side tables are everything.
27:30That's actually, those are pretty cool.
27:31Oh, it's a swivel.
27:33We really did get woken up on Saturday morning very early as kids and out the door to garage
27:40sales and thrift stores on Saturday.
27:42Like you had to get there early to get the best stuff.
27:45This is pretty mid-century.
27:46It's super mid-century.
27:47This is really cute.
27:48That is cute.
27:49Here, pull this one aside so nobody gets it.
27:52Oh!
27:53This is $10.
27:54Oh, my God.
27:55We'll paint this too.
27:56We'll take this.
27:57Wait, wait.
27:58No, no.
27:59Hold on.
28:00Hold on.
28:01Hold on.
28:02Sometimes I get caught up in my thrifting and I get vicious.
28:04I don't mean it.
28:05Yeah, I saw it.
28:06I don't know.
28:07It's more like 80s though, right?
28:08What are you talking about?
28:09This is literally mid-century.
28:10You are crazy as fudge.
28:13I've never apologized.
28:15As my mother before me, I refuse.
28:18Let's load it up and load it out.
28:22Gentlemen.
28:23Hello.
28:24Hey, hey, hey, hey.
28:25Y'all did a good day.
28:26Good a day.
28:27Yeah.
28:28I'm not sure where to fit it all, but.
28:29Well, your sales will come up to a whopping.
28:34Y'all ready?
28:35Uh-huh.
28:36Yeah.
28:37$4.77 even with tax.
28:38Oh, wow.
28:39It's not bad.
28:40That's not bad.
28:41It's not bad at all.
28:42We want like three houses worth of stuff, so that's amazing.
28:44Now we just got to fit all of this in there.
28:46I'll leave that up to y'all.
28:47All right.
28:48Had to put the stupid table in here, didn't you?
28:52Yes, I had to do it.
28:54All right, Keith.
28:55Here is your beautiful design.
28:56Yay.
28:57I think it turned out really good.
28:59So far, at least.
29:00This one goes here.
29:01Yep.
29:02Nice.
29:03Nice.
29:04Nice.
29:05Okay.
29:06What have you got?
29:07Hey, it looks pretty good.
29:08That's beautiful.
29:09A little shelf moment.
29:10Ah, it's so mid-century.
29:11Yeah.
29:12Yeah.
29:13Yeah.
29:14Yeah.
29:15Yeah.
29:16Yeah.
29:17All right, Keith.
29:18Here is your beautiful design.
29:19Yay.
29:20I think it turned out really good.
29:21What have you got?
29:22Hey, it looks pretty good.
29:24That's beautiful.
29:25A little shelf moment.
29:27Ah, it's so mid-century.
29:30Yeah, these super rounded kind of like flowy, sexy curves is very mid-century, although paired
29:36with a very straight line a lot of times.
29:39How do we want to attach this, though?
29:42I don't want any fasteners.
29:44Visible.
29:49You know what?
29:50We should peg it.
29:51That's an interesting idea.
29:53Put dowels and then drill a hole up here with dowels sticking out so it can't tip.
30:00Good job.
30:06How much glue?
30:08This is correct, right?
30:11Yeah.
30:16Oh, yeah.
30:17Cute.
30:18Nice.
30:19I love it.
30:20It's sleek.
30:21It looks great.
30:22It's art deco.
30:23It's not art deco.
30:24It's mid-century.
30:25It's mid-century.
30:27I think it turned out really nice and it'll be the perfect addition to a mid-century dining
30:32room.
30:33Yes.
30:38All right, what are you thinking for this room?
30:43It just needs more.
30:44I want to do like a little accent wall with some linear thing to go with the mid-century
30:50modern vibe.
30:51Good old fashioned wood slats.
30:53What colors are you thinking though?
30:56Well, I ordered some Sherwin-Williams peeling stick samples.
30:59Oh, nice.
31:00Just to see which one we like best.
31:01Yes.
31:02So you just put it right on the wall?
31:06Mm-hmm.
31:07Okay, so that's sea salt.
31:09Which one's this?
31:10That is...
31:11Indigo Batik.
31:12Wow, it looks totally different when you actually put it on the wall.
31:16This is agreeable gray.
31:18Oh, yeah, we've looked at that one many times.
31:21And then evergreen fog.
31:23Ooh.
31:24So I will say this is very similar to what we're going to use for the backsplash.
31:30So maybe the sea salt is a perfect complement then to that.
31:34My vote is sea salt.
31:35It's mid-century and it's fabulous.
31:37I love that time.
31:58Hey, party people!
32:00Hello, sir!
32:01What is this finish called?
32:02White oak.
32:04Isn't that nice?
32:07It is.
32:08Will the floors be a similar finish?
32:09They are.
32:10Ooh!
32:11Yeah, they're similar.
32:12I don't think Keith has ever used these white oak cabinets in any other design, and I absolutely
32:17love it.
32:18I mean, walking in as a buyer, this beautiful kitchen greeting you, I feel like it's going
32:23to sell this house.
32:24Oh, come look at the dining room.
32:26Ooh!
32:27So this is the dining room we're doing a banquette here with a small little bistro.
32:32Right here?
32:33Uh-huh.
32:34And then we have a little floating buffet with these guys, with this going above it.
32:39Oh, that's so nice!
32:40Super fun!
32:41Mama love!
32:42Mama love!
32:43Thank you, thank you.
32:44I love this house.
32:45I love it how nice and bright this space is.
32:47It is really bright.
32:48I mean, it was so crowded and doom and gloom, and even with this amount of square footage,
32:55you were able to maintain a 3-2.
32:57I think we've reconfigured it the best possible way we could have.
33:00I believe so, too.
33:01It's like walking into that beautiful, bright kitchen.
33:03What is the all-in budget?
33:05Because we still need you to make a profit.
33:07It's like 120, 130.
33:09Oh, good.
33:10Might creep up to 140 by the end, maybe.
33:13Yeah, we kind of splurged on the kitchen, but it's worth it.
33:16The kitchen is fabulous.
33:17We have really strong comps in this neighborhood, so I say we list at 174.
33:23That would be awesome.
33:24I like it.
33:25I think the kitchen is going to make it worth that.
33:27All right, I'm out of here.
33:28I'll be back in less than 24 hours.
33:30Have this baby ready to get sold.
33:3248.
33:3324.
33:3448.
33:35I'm checking in at 24.
33:54It's a little tall.
33:55It's not that tall.
33:56Or a buffet.
33:57It's nice to be served.
33:59This would be really nice to have extra storage.
34:02You can hide your sterling silver.
34:04So this is the line that you want to hit the top of the cabinet, too?
34:07Oh, that's a tiny line I can barely see.
34:10You need to go down an inch.
34:12It's that line.
34:13That's even tinier.
34:14I can barely see that.
34:15Can you put it there and make sure it's level?
34:17It's not.
34:24It's going to be a really fun room, though.
34:27Okay, I'm sorry, but you're right in the way.
34:29Oh, my God.
34:30The leg is right where that line is.
34:33You're telling me to stand on the far side of it,
34:35and then you're irritated when I can't see.
34:37Can you do a better job?
34:39Oh, my God.
34:46Okay.
34:47I've had a change in my head about where to put the shelf.
34:52I think we should put the shelf, like, here.
34:54Because this is now so high that it's going to be awkward.
34:56Yeah.
35:01Hey, how's it going today?
35:02Pretty good.
35:03We're here to pick up an order for nine Design & Homes.
35:06Only go grab it.
35:07Awesome. Thank you.
35:08Ooh, I can't wait to see this color, though.
35:10Should be fun.
35:11All righty, here we are.
35:13Ooh, I can't wait to see it.
35:15Hey, what do you think?
35:16Nice, I love it.
35:17All right.
35:18Thank you so much.
35:19You too.
35:20Bye.
35:22I like that.
35:23Another thrift store find?
35:24Another thrifty.
35:25Keith, you know how people call Taylor Swift Swims Swifties?
35:29They're gonna call thrift store fans thrifties.
35:30They're a thrifty.
35:31Okay.
35:32They're a thrifty.
35:33Okay.
35:34Great work.
35:35Thank you, Joe.
35:36Great work.
35:37Thank you, Joe.
35:38All right.
35:39Great work.
35:40Thank you, Joe.
35:41Oh, so mid-century.
35:42I like how chic everything is.
35:43The mid-century house came out beautifully in the end.
35:44Oh, so mid-century.
35:45I like how chic everything is.
35:46The mid-century house came out beautifully in the end.
35:47Oh, so mid-century.
35:48The mid-century house came out beautifully in the end.
35:49I think everything in the reconfiguration of the layout really paid off.
35:53The whole place just really come full circle.
35:56Oh, so mid-century house came out beautifully in the end.
36:13I think everything in the reconfiguration of the layout really paid off.
36:17The whole place just really come full circle.
36:25Cool.
36:26Oh, that looks cool.
36:28No fish.
36:30Looks very mid-century.
36:31Good job.
36:42So this house is three bedrooms, two baths, 1,100 square feet, and we're going to be listing
36:46it for $174,000.
36:49Welcome, guys.
36:51Welcome to the open house.
36:53It's beautiful.
36:54I love the colors.
36:55This entire front part had to be restored.
36:58It was crumbling to pieces.
37:00Kind of a danger zone.
37:02Well, this entire house was a danger zone.
37:08Doesn't look like it now.
37:09I'm glad they saved it.
37:10You got this big juicy porch, nice neutral tones.
37:15It looks really good.
37:17Love the original brickwork.
37:19I like the door, too.
37:20Me, too.
37:21That's my favorite.
37:22That's our taste.
37:23We like the earth tones.
37:24Can't wait to see it.
37:25Good.
37:26That's music to my ears.
37:27You're going to love this place.
37:28Okay.
37:29So the theme that Keith and Evan went with this house is mid-century modern.
37:33Oh, man.
37:34That is good.
37:35All right.
37:36Let's do it.
37:37We're so excited to see it.
37:38I can't wait.
37:39All right.
37:40Come on in.
37:41Wow.
37:42This is unbelievable.
37:43Come on in.
37:44Welcome, welcome.
37:45Wow.
37:46Wow.
37:47Wow.
37:49Wow.
37:50Wow.
37:51Wow.
37:52Wow.
37:53Wow.
37:54Wow.
37:55Wow.
37:56Wow.
37:57Wow.
37:58Wow.
37:59Wow.
38:00Wow.
38:01Wow.
38:02Wow.
38:03Wow.
38:04I like this mid-century look.
38:06Wow.
38:11I love it.
38:12This is such a beautiful piece.
38:14A lot of stuff in here was thrifted, because where else do you find vintage mid-century
38:19pieces, you know?
38:20Exactly.
38:21Guys, let me sit on this.
38:22I can take this home with me.
38:24Well, you have to take the whole house.
38:26And then you have a cute little bonus space here.
38:31Oh, wow.
38:32This is technically a bedroom.
38:33Okay.
38:34Um, the guys have it furnished as an office.
38:37Nice.
38:38Oh, I love the colors.
38:44That's the first thing I noticed when I come through the door was that wall right there.
38:49It would be a great place to sit and have your coffee in the morning, too, with all the light.
38:53I love it.
38:54Isn't this the perfect workspace?
38:55Oh, yeah.
38:56Well, there is more to see.
38:58Okay.
38:59Follow me.
39:00Wow.
39:01Look at this kitchen.
39:02Look at the size of it.
39:03Yeah.
39:04So we tried to maximize this as much as we possibly could.
39:10You know?
39:11But it's such a big kitchen for a small home.
39:13I know.
39:14And look at all this counter space.
39:15All the cabinets.
39:17This actually used to be the dining room.
39:19Oh, really?
39:20Okay.
39:22This is a quartz countertop.
39:23Quartz.
39:24Okay.
39:25I love that the veining.
39:26Veining.
39:27Yeah.
39:28That it matches.
39:29Yeah.
39:30See?
39:31We're on the same.
39:32I like the contrast.
39:33Beautiful.
39:34Yeah, these are white oak cabinets.
39:36They're one of my favorite cabinets we've used.
39:39This backsplash is really cool.
39:41Yeah.
39:42I like it a lot.
39:43I love a pop of color.
39:44I love that the graining is vertical, and then the backsplash is installed vertical.
39:48It kind of draws your eye up.
39:50I think it makes it look a lot bigger, yeah.
39:52You're the cook, so if you like it, I like it.
39:57Exactly.
39:58That's for you.
39:59This is a nice converted old kitchen.
40:01Oh, my goodness.
40:02Oh, my gosh.
40:03Look at this.
40:04Look at how they decorated this room.
40:09Love the light.
40:10Look at that.
40:11Great choice on the oval table.
40:15So they did a banquette here.
40:21OK.
40:22And then with this oval table, you have enough space to move around.
40:27And Keith and Evan actually made this table and this gorgeous shelf.
40:30Oh, wow.
40:31That's what I was just looking at.
40:32I was wondering if they made that.
40:33And I love that they made use of these cabinets and made this sideboard with the butcher block countertop.
40:39When you have guests over, it's perfect for, like, extra food and drinks.
40:44For a bar.
40:45Yes.
40:46And to have this dining space, it's like a pleasant surprise, right?
40:49Yes, it's like little hidden gems everywhere you look.
40:52Yeah.
40:53We were also able to add in a full bath here.
40:56Oh, wow.
40:57Look at this.
40:59Oh, wow.
41:00This is a lot bigger than I would have thought.
41:03Yeah, it's a nice size.
41:04It's very spacious.
41:09Oh, man.
41:10Look at the sink, man.
41:11Look at this cabinet.
41:12Look at the towel in the back.
41:13That is really cool.
41:14Look at this.
41:15I love the shower tile.
41:16Beautiful.
41:17Great color.
41:18Yeah, I love the color.
41:19Thanks.
41:20Good choice on the floor.
41:21I love a basket weave.
41:22That's one of my favorites.
41:23Very classic.
41:24So in this home, you have two full baths.
41:26Two?
41:27Two?
41:28There's another full bathroom upstairs.
41:29Oh, wow.
41:30Let's check it out.
41:31Two bathrooms.
41:32Oh, wow.
41:33Look at this.
41:35This is way bigger than I expected it to be.
41:40Oh, wow.
41:41Look at that.
41:42That is a fun pattern.
41:44Look at that.
41:45How it interlocks.
41:46Yeah.
41:47This is definitely my favorite.
41:50Yes.
41:51I love it.
41:52Main bedroom.
41:53Oh.
41:54Wow.
41:55Oh, yeah.
41:56Look at this.
41:57That's a good size.
41:58That's a good size.
41:59Ooh.
42:00Wow.
42:01So this is the largest bedroom of the three.
42:05Queen size bed and there's still plenty of room.
42:07Very nice.
42:08Look at this stand.
42:09I'm loving the furniture.
42:10Me too.
42:11Mid-century nightstand.
42:13It's so cozy.
42:14It is.
42:15Very nice.
42:16That's the tour.
42:17All right.
42:18Could I say very nice one more time?
42:19I don't think I could.
42:20Today's guests were like blown away by the huge living room and then the way the kitchen
42:38greets you.
42:39People, I think, really felt the mid-century vibe.
42:44That kitchen had a lot of comments.
42:46People loved the white oak and that stunning blue tile.
42:49I feel pretty confident we'll have a couple of offers over the next few days.
42:54We had really positive feedback, which I love.
