‘A litany of lies’, Linda Reynolds ‘vindicated’ in Brittany Higgins defamation battle

Reynolds launched a defamation lawsuit over a series of Higgins' social media posts which the ex-senator believed damaged her reputation.

00:00Today, Justice Toffle has definitively established the truth.

00:05There was no conspiracy and there was no political cover-up on a rape.

00:09It is a great relief that my reputation has been finally and fully indicated.

00:15However, it is disappointing that it took four and a half years,

00:19multiple court actions and millions of dollars.

00:22I was falsely accused, conspiring with the then Prime Minister,

00:25to cover up the rape of a young woman in my office.

00:30This lie devastated me, it devastated my staff, it devastated my family and so many friends.

00:38But let me be very, very clear today.

00:42This was never about Ms Hiddin's allegation of rape and it was also never about the money.

00:49This action was always, it was always about the dishonest and devastating attack of my reputation,

00:55the very gross politicisation of this matter by Labour.

01:00Allowed Ms Hiddin's to procure a multi-million dollar settlement.

01:04A settlement that is clearly based on a litany of lies.

01:09I'm not expecting an apology from the Labour government for their role in this

01:18However, I do call on the Labour government, on the Australian government's solicitors

01:23and HWL Ebsworth to carefully review Justice Topple's findings.
