Pakatan Harapan once used to be very good at using social media. So, what happened to their communication skills and methods? Is it because some people in the government have become comfortable with mainstream media?

According to party veteran Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, restrictions on freedom of speech on social media are not helping the cause either.

00:00Bagaimana banyak-banyak orang di administrasi sebelum ini menghubungkan komentar mereka di Facebook
00:04Tetapi itu telah berlaku di kerajaan ini, sebabnya
00:08Kami telah melihat, you know, the minister berkata
00:13Oh, be careful of what you say, a police car might be outside your house
00:16And why do we have to resort to that?
00:19Rakyat wants to know, YB, what is actually happening with unity government?
00:27What is actually happening? Maybe we can get it from you
00:31Well, I think, you know, this is the colour of society
00:38It's a democratic society, it's an open society
00:40So you get people with different views
00:43You know, we are not a one-party dictatorship
00:46I think the rakyat, to a great extent
00:53They form their own opinion
00:58And they sort of, you know, they get their view from the government
01:02They get view from the opposition
01:04They get view from the critical members of government like myself
01:08They get views from media, from social media
01:12Then they will form their own view, right?
01:17And I think, but I think what the unity government needs to do better
01:24Even, I mean, I think we've done a lot of good things in the unity government
01:30And I'm not going to, you know, belittle that or question that
01:35But I think what, one thing we should always work on is communications
01:40That is something we should do better
01:42And, I mean, yeah
01:47And then, like, you know, we tend to say that
01:52The opposition are very good at using social media and all that
01:57We used to be very good at using social media
02:00You can't suddenly, because I think suddenly
02:03You have a sense that some people in government are more comfortable with mainstream media
02:08But we know that, you know, mainstream media is important
02:11But that alone is not enough
02:13I mean, or not, we wouldn't win in 2018
02:15Correct, correct
02:16So that's one thing
02:18And two is that
02:20Sometimes, I mean, the opposition
02:23Or you have some people saying silly things and all that
02:26We have to be more tolerant of views
02:32Of criticisms
02:34Rightly or wrongly
02:36I mean, I don't know how often people in the previous administrations
02:41Close down their comments on Facebook
02:43But it has happened in this government
02:46Unfortunately
02:47We have seen, you know, the minister saying that
02:52Oh, be careful of what you say
02:53A police car might be outside your house
02:55And why do we have to resort to that
02:58If anything wrong, 3R, whatever
03:00And you need to
03:01I mean, I'm not saying that everyone on social media is good and great
03:06Right?
03:07But if
03:08Then it's me, you take action
03:09But you shouldn't advertise
03:11Or shouldn't rely on that again and again
03:14Because this is what we fought against
03:16Exactly
03:17Right?
03:17You have to be very careful
03:19You have to give a wide room for disagreement
03:22For criticism
03:23You know
03:24Before taking action
03:26And I think
03:27This is something that we have to navigate very well
03:30Like, we're going to be able to do
03:33Which is something that we need to do
03:35I love it
03:36If we meet
03:36Especially
03:37Our people
03:37When we go, we see
03:38We have to go

03:39Offward
