01:357 30 on a midsummer's evening in cheltenham pc smith from the dogs unit is just starting his night shift
01:45the first call is already in and the blue light is on so we've just received information that there's
01:53a large disorder happening in cheltenham and the information is still coming through
01:58the control room have received multiple calls from residents reporting a loud disturbance
02:04quite a busy area for us to please the shout goes out to all nearby crews colleagues have just arrived
02:10we're only about a minute away now so we're not too far away we've just started the shift
02:15it's going to be a uh maybe a busy shift tonight yeah the sun's out just about to get here now
02:22it's 20 seconds away there's been no real further update with no real detail as to what they're walking
02:29into it's down to pc smith to find out arnie his canine partner is staying put for now

06:20pc smith has spotted a man who was wanted by police

06:46last sighted pc smith joins them on foot with members of the public and other dogs in the area arnie

07:37if we can locate him he's going to be around here somewhere but it's just a case of looking for him
07:51the suspect has been sighted and one of the officers is on his heels

10:51operating in the area and his car has just been spotted a lot of reports of a car that's been
11:00driven by a male who's been reported to be dealing cocaine from the car um he was sighted just up the
11:07road here so we're gonna just have a little look around and try to see if we can locate the vehicle
11:11it should be here any second if it's coming straight down was it a fusion fusion red or black
11:17is that black is that yeah no the likelihood is he won't stop if he's got more than a small amount
11:24on him so you need to think about that when you're approaching the vehicle it's hanging from 22

13:01was a big bloke tall very muscular and obviously he'd been accused of drug dealing he potentially
13:07was quite violent and aggressive so i had to make sure i kept my wits about me i'm happy there's
13:12nothing on you okay we're going to start looking at the vehicle okay just lean against the vehicle
13:15just stay there a bit closer i don't want you to yeah yeah okay sir i want you to stand there for me
13:21okay with the possibility of drugs hidden in the car they have brought in another unit to make sure
13:26nothing is missed right let's stop bye there's loads of cash in this one no drugs at the moment
13:38just this bag with quite a lot of cash in it and a phone over there but yeah we're just still looking
13:43i was coming to the back for me yeah just moved out it's something we found in the car was a burner
13:47phone so this is usually a small phone that people use to deal with drugs they are easy to dispose of
13:54and we seized that because then we'd be able to download it and potentially find evidence of
13:58drug dealing going on just just takes it mate in the back of the car just for two minutes
14:06happy with that i mean i've got to see anything this vehicle we've stopped so give us a rundown again
14:12after a thorough search there's no sign of any cocaine but they have found some evidence enough to take
14:18the man into custody we've obviously not found any drugs in the vehicle um we found a lot of cash in
14:24his handbag and a small little phone in the glove box of this vehicle as well um so just contacting
14:31somebody to see what our next steps are really yeah fine that's um more than enough for me then um
14:37all right i'll let my colleague know and we'll um do the necessary what we're looking to do is just nick him
14:43yeah the evidence is there large amount of cash we'll have his phone as well

15:25friday nights are always a an interesting night obviously it's the weekend people have finished
15:40work rhodes policing officer pc webb aka bear is on a routine patrol of the m5 we've got a nice weekend
15:49ahead of us it's gonna be sunny it's gonna be hot it's not long until he's called into action
15:54so we were traveling southbound in the m5 in an unmarked police car and i could see in my rearview
16:00mirror this vehicle was not doing 70 miles an hour let's say it goes flying past me and it's at that
16:06point we start following it at a distance 93 try and get him for 14. when we see a vehicle which is
16:16speeding on the motorway we can quite quickly see how fast they're going and we then start completing a
16:22speed detection through the equipment which we've got in our vehicle well i've recorded recorded an
16:27average of 93 but you can see at this speed at the moment he's doing 105 obviously i'll be speaking to
16:33about 103 miles an hour he's doing 104 now just to try and get in front of him those sorts of speeds it
16:40goes wrong really quickly we're now doing 111 he's not giving up the lane our role as roads policing
16:49officers is predominantly to make the road safer at 111 miles an hour you could be perfectly awake and
16:56not drunk but if you hit something or an animal comes out on the carriageway at those speeds it goes
17:02wrong really quickly pc webb is in an unmarked car and the driver seems unaware of his attempts to get
17:08their attention well i flashed him a couple of times he's not getting out of the way so let's see
17:14if he gets out of the way surely look at the chassis language see if he's even contemplating going over
17:20and should go in now eventually the driver gets the message but then strangely makes to overtake him

17:37with a bit of persistence pc webb gets the driver into the nearest service station hello you okay

18:39drive at 110 120 miles now every day and it's more more more often the case it's like a moment of
18:47madness you've got your driver's license on you and have you had anything to drink today no
18:51the driver and her passenger have already had an inventful journey so playing devil's advocate
19:07then if you've had a really awful day yeah and you've got all this going in your mind the last
19:14thing you want to do the very last thing you want to be doing is be doing over 100 miles an hour in a
19:18car yeah because when it goes wrong it goes wrong really quickly at those speeds yeah yeah of course
19:23i didn't actually realize i was going that fast i honestly didn't i just need to breathalize you
19:28first and once i've done that i can deal with the speed of matter you guys been cycling no we
19:33climbed snowden snowden i can see i can see all the gym kit and i just yeah we went snowden we broke down
19:39yesterday i bought a new car last week and it broke down okay when you're ready just take a deep breath
19:44from low into there i'll hold it that's zero which is good so i've ruled out the reason for your speed
19:52is certainly not alcohol based and i'm not suspecting any recreational drugs so i'm not going to do a

20:13them why it's important we do what we do and what the ramifications are on the plus side if i was
20:19dealing with you for the other speed the overhunt you would be losing your license so if you were a
20:24business owner you wouldn't you wouldn't have a license to drive about in that's why i'm dealing
20:27with you today for the 93 miles now which i mean you keep your license gotta get points oh you'll get

20:40with the speeding ticket issued any questions no questions some final words of the device

21:53to crew together so it's quite nice and it helps keep you awake on a nine shift as well
22:01keeping awake will not be a problem as the anpr cameras have picked up a car that is of interest
22:07and it's headed their way what is it it is a white nissan duke there it is that's the one
22:25so this car's got no insurance insurance so we give it a quick stop before it gets in the drive-through
22:30we didn't know who was in the vehicle and we thought well we'll just take a left at this
22:37roundabout and we'll see if it comes towards us so it's a bit of a 50 50 guess but yeah it paid off
22:42in the end so we thought we're gonna have a little chat system reset

24:32know that when we're stopping these vehicles who's in it like the end of the day if a vehicle's
24:36showing us no insurance we're going to stop it and double check that while the driver gets his
24:41dad on the phone pc bowers reads the policy small print i like to drive other vehicles no ah
24:50they said to me on the phone that i'm allowed to drive any vehicle under third party that's what
24:55it says on here last week oh but i'm fully comp anyway so i can drive any vehicle but it's not

25:07he told me on the phone the other day he was adamant he had insurance from his own car so of
25:14course we ran some checks on that and transpires he didn't have insurance to drive other vehicles
25:20so do you want the bad news what we're gonna have to seize the vehicle oh my god they're seizing the
25:25vehicle come pick me up dad oh yeah can i have a 165 seizure please uh no insurance so we've confirmed
25:32that there is no insurance so as a result he's going to be losing the vehicle and getting six points on
25:37this one and three and a pound fine so it's a bad week for him he'll be walking through the drive
25:40through when his dad comes he will not be happy because he wasn't last week
25:48sergeant gladwin doesn't have long to wait here he is look you had him the other day yeah no reason

27:04there's no insurance on this car at all and he hasn't provided the policies it covers him to drive
27:12this is the harassment man it's not unusual when you stop someone and
27:16they disagree they will phone someone and someone else will come down to give their
27:20opinion on the situation but this was an entire family that turned up
27:28i can tell you now there's no insurance on the car to be driven on the road none whatsoever

27:36or whatever it says no insurance he can't provide insurance because he hasn't got cover to drive other
27:42vehicles that's why we're seizing we've checked that we don't just seize vehicles for no reason
27:47we have to do the checks before we seize them with the family convinced sergeant gladwin has been
27:52picking on the driver pc bowers takes on the role of peacemaker so you're not doing it out of spite

28:04a female we've called in here to pull it because it says no insurance his dad wasn't particularly
28:08very happy and started should we say getting a little bit upset with sergeant godwin saying that
28:13he was picking on his son we just had to calm the situation down as best we could i think eventually
28:18he he did come round i'd like to say i my charm warmed him well that developed didn't it yeah

28:37we never knew on either occasion he was driving eventually the driver and his family accept the
28:42situation and head home as the car is towed to the local compound

42:23driver was protesting his innocence said that he never did drugs but i thought it was really really
42:28strange that he tested positive for a drug swipe and also that drugs were fine in the vehicle so
42:36we obviously found what we believe to be cocaine right and the drug wipe has shown up positive for
42:40cocaine already right okay so as a result i'm arresting you from suspicion of possession of cocaine
42:46all right i'm providing a positive drugs wipe for cocaine so you do not say anything but
42:50mayhem defense you don't mention one question from a player in court anything you do say may
42:54but never do yes all right i know you're well enough to not need to cuff you right but obviously if
42:58there's any issues then you will get cuffed all right
43:05no you can't tell your bottle of vodka although you probably need it for sales to get through the
43:09night but no not tonight so what's going to happen is take you down there he's going to request a
43:15specimen of blood which then goes off to be analyzed at a laboratory and that takes a few months to come
43:21back and then once that comes back you'll have an exact amount of traces of what we're looking for
43:27in your system according to the man there could be a perfectly reasonable explanation for his positive
