A 99-year-old man was one of two passengers onboard a Princess Cruise Line ship who were medically evacuated while sailing off the coast of Washington state on Sunday, Aug. 24. The rescue was a joint effort between the U.S. Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Coast Guard. Both missions were completed successfully. According to a Aug. 25 press release, the incident occurred about 145 nautical miles west of Cape Flattery, Wash. on a ship bound for Alaska. On Sunday morning, the Coast Guard’s Northwest District watchstanders received notice of two patients onboard the Ruby Princess cruise ship requiring “immediate medical evacuations."
