Kristi Noem: Arrests Of Illegal Immigrants In D.C. Will Have 'Ripple Effect' Across Country

While speaking to reporters after Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem spoke about the arrests of illegal immigrants.

00:00Christy, could you say a few words?

00:01Sure. Well, Mr. President, I think one of the most impactful statistics that you used today

00:07was of the 1,000 arrests that have happened already so far, 439 of them were illegal criminals,

00:14which means they never should have been in this country to begin with.

00:17But they were in this country, invaded over our southern border or our northern border or maritime seas,

00:23and then they committed crimes against the American people.

00:25So by getting those individuals incarcerated, we've stopped those violent crimes from happening here in this city.

00:31And, sir, they do.

00:32Exactly like Stephen was talking, they have ties to cartels.

00:35They have networks across this country and other cities.

00:38So by what you're doing here is going to have a ripple effect in Miami, in Chicago, in other cities,

00:44because you're grabbing those networks and giving us information and targeting information

00:48to go and get more criminals across this country.

00:51So thank you for the work that you're doing.

00:53And we have ICE and CBP, Federal Protective Services, Secret Service, HSI.

00:59All of our officers are working with all the other agencies every day here in D.C.

01:03And they're so proud to have this kind of partnership.

01:06So they're so glad that you're letting them do their jobs again.

01:09And I don't know if you've heard, sir, but the recruitment campaign for ICE,

01:13when we were going to hire 10,000 new officers,

01:16we've got over 130,000 people that have applied and raised their hands and said they want to work with ICE.

01:21So no matter what the fake news says or what the media says about ICE not having support,

01:26they've got incredible support from the American people.

01:29People want to join them and help them do what they're doing to make America safe again.

01:33So thank you for that.
