Endangered Vallarta mud turtle, 'smallest turtle in the world,' born in Mexican zoo
The Mexican zoo of Guadalajara has accomplished a small wonder: the hatching of a Vallarta mud turtle — an endangered species and "the smallest turtle in the world." "Very little information exists about this specimen because it was only recently discovered," says biologist and head of the zoo's herpetarium Ricardo Davila. "The maximum length recorded is 10.2 centimeters," he adds.
