00:00All right, here we go.
00:08Rolling, rolling.
00:11Build time, baby!
00:13Yeah!
00:19Going into the semifinals is so surreal.
00:22For us to do this together
00:24on the greatest building competition ever.
00:29We're living the dream.
00:31Hello, builders, and welcome to the semifinals.
00:35Yeah!
00:36Yeah!
00:37All right.
00:39You are one step closer to that $100,000
00:45and title of LEGO Masters.
00:48Yeah!
00:49Yeah!
00:50That's awesome.
00:51This week, we're taking things to the next level.
00:56It's the toughest challenge in LEGO Masters history.
01:02You won't believe your eyes.
01:07Are you ready?
01:09Yeah!
01:10Yeah!
01:11Yeah!
01:12Whew!
01:13Sorry, that was exhausting.
01:14But now we got all those promo lines out of the way.
01:17We can finally get down to business!
01:21This week, we're really gonna have a ball!
01:28There are balls falling everywhere!
01:32Oh, we got more of them!
01:34I'm a PE teacher.
01:35Ball is a part of my profession.
01:36Football, basketball, soccer balls, big balls, small balls.
01:37Let me tell you about balls.
01:39It's all the time!
01:40It's all the time.
01:41Wow!
01:42This week, you will be building great ball contraptions.
01:46Oh, we got more of them.
01:49I'm a PE teacher.
01:50Ball is a part of my profession.
01:52Football, basketball, soccer balls, big balls, small balls.
01:55Let me tell you about balls.
01:56Oh, wow.
02:01This week, you will be building great ball contraptions.
02:07Oh, my God.
02:09Your challenge will be to build a machine that transports a ball from point A to point B,
02:20where it will roll into a tube and travel into the next team's builds,
02:26with the ultimate goal being to get this ball from one side of the studio to the other.
02:33This ball right here is your ticket to the finale.
02:38This challenge is going to require you to have multiple mechanized parts of your model
02:44in sync, capturing a ping pong ball.
02:47If you've ever played ping pong, that thing will fly anywhere.
02:51Those things have a mind of their own.
02:52This is going to be extremely difficult.
02:55Of course, in this challenge, we need you to get a ball from one side to the other.
02:59But how you do that is a chance to really get creative.
03:03We want to see wonderful stories that create a true spectacle.
03:08Ooh.
03:09Storytelling is very important.
03:11So that's good.
03:12We want you to use power functions to move your ball in a deliberate way.
03:16We want to make sure that your ball flawlessly moves to the end.
03:19This is where all your emotions will come into play.
03:21Yeah.
03:22We want to see your imagination and your ambition on top display.
03:27The last couple of weeks, we have been dinged on our size.
03:30It is our time to show the judges that we can go big.
03:33You want ambition?
03:35We'll bring the ambition.
03:37We're giving you 12 hours to build something incredible.
03:41Three teams will be moving on to the finale.
03:44One team will not.
03:46Are you ready?
03:46Get your brake on!
03:51I love!
03:52I love, I love, I love!
03:54Ready?
03:54One, two, three!
03:56Lego Master!
03:57Wow!
03:57They're ready for this!
04:01I know that we have to go big.
04:04Yes.
04:04What if we did the amusement park?
04:06The amusement park would be cool.
04:07Let's figure out what thing we want to get this to there.
04:12We've never done anything like this before, and movement is definitely not our strong suit.
04:16It has to get from the grounds of the thing.
04:18But storytelling's huge.
04:20I know.
04:21So, going into this challenge, we're really focusing on the storytelling.
04:26Ooh, this is tricky.
04:27This is really tricky.
04:30We have a magical meatball.
04:33Ben, what's the first thing that comes to mind when you heard the word ball?
04:37Meatball!
04:37Do we want to keep it all soupy, like, in front of the kitchen?
04:40Yeah, might as well.
04:40Let's have it in the kitchen.
04:42We are making the lost meatball, who has tumbled into the kitchen sink, where his buddy,
04:47The Pan, sweeps him up onto a grapevine into the pantry, where the cans help the little
04:53meatball get back home.
04:55That could be in the pantry.
04:56We have different types of soup cans going up and down.
05:00That's a good call.
05:01Yeah?
05:01In this challenge, we're going to take some risks with these cans.
05:04This is a very complicated mechanism, but we successfully used power functions in the
05:08Star Wars challenge and incorporated motion into our Over the Falls build as well.
05:12So, building a great ball contraption sounds pretty easy.
05:15A trip to the finale is on the line.
05:17We're not holding anything back.
05:20How do you feel about this idea, man?
05:21Pretty good.
05:23I'm like the hardest technical challenge there ever is.
05:26Man, this is a daunting task.
05:30What's up, Will?
05:31What's up, Sage and Ian?
05:32How are you guys doing?
05:33We're doing good.
05:34We finally won a challenge last week.
05:37I'm going to walk out and I'm going to come back in and you better not high-five each other.
05:41Okay, we will stop.
05:42I'm kidding.
05:43Okay, awesome.
05:48You won.
05:49Is it brick?
05:50We did it.
05:51We did it.
05:52Do not high-five at this.
05:54You're the all-time high-five champs.
05:56Do not.
05:56That felt good.
06:00How would your family feel if you were crowned Lego Masters and came back with $100,000 Canadian?
06:08They'd be freaking out.
06:10They'd be freaking out.
06:11Who do you think in your family would be the most excited?
06:13Definitely our mom.
06:14She's so supportive of us and we cannot wait to win this for her.
06:20You've proven to be great storytellers.
06:22Yes, we're definitely going to be betting on our storytelling.
06:25Have you landed on what your thing is going to be yet?
06:28Not yet.
06:28How can you put your brother-sister relationship into this build, do you think?
06:33Ooh, that could get some pull in the heartstrings.
06:36Yeah.
06:36I think Will's got something here.
06:38Yeah.
06:39Okay, Brickmaster.
06:40Brickmaster Will came up and gave us such great advice.
06:43He told us that we need to pull on the Brickmaster's heartstrings.
06:48He's right about it has to relate to us.
06:50The story is about us right now.
06:52And what better way than to tell the story we're living right now?
06:58Being on Lego Masters feels like a fairy tale.
07:01So we are making the tale of Sage and Ian.
07:04This build will show off the journey that we've experienced in this competition.
07:08The ball will bounce from book to book and enter the vicious Technic Serpent.
07:13That Sage and Ian have to cross to get to the beanstalk and get to the finale.
07:20Every book is going to be a different fairy tale, but the last one will be our fairy tale ending.
07:25It's not a straight uplift.
07:26Corey and Rebecca.
07:27Hey, Will.
07:28Who would be the happiest in your family were you to win?
07:33Our oldest son, we explained to him what $100,000 was.
07:36He's like, how many 20s is that?
07:37That's a decent question.
07:38Yeah, yeah.
07:40Tell me about what this build is going to be.
07:42This is inspired by a children's book.
07:44We're going to tell the story of if you give a lion a hairbrush, what's going to happen?
07:48I'm really missing our kids right now, and especially reading to them every night.
07:52So we're building a great ball contraption based on stories that we love to read our children,
07:56where one event leads to a seemingly random next event until we get to the end.
08:01So what happens when you give a lion a hairbrush?
08:04Well, he's going to get self-conscious, put on earmuffs, and want to go skiing,
08:08and have hot chocolate, which reminds him of Costa Rica.
08:10So he's going to fly to Costa Rica, and he'll be playing soccer.
08:13Wow.
08:14It's ambitious.
08:14Our last couple builds have not been the biggest in the room,
08:17and it's time for us to be the biggest in the room.
08:19You know what?
08:20That tracks.
08:21Yeah.
08:21That tracks.
08:28Oh, screw that.
08:29That's way too complicated.
08:31Remember, kids, when engineering, the rule of kiss is important.
08:35Keep it simple, stupid.
08:36If I can get this lift mechanism going, I think this will look pretty impressive.
08:42We decided to tell the story of Escape from Mom.
08:45Our story takes place in an amusement park.
08:47Lil Johnny gets separated from his mom,
08:49and he is now going to seize the opportunity to ride all the rides that he has never been allowed to ride.
08:53Johnny's going to be represented by the ping pong ball.
08:55He's going to go up into an anti-grav tower.
08:58He's going to take a ride down the woe coaster onto the flume of doom.
09:02This will be pretty exciting if this actually works.
09:04I'm going to hop on building the anti-gravity funhouse that's going to move the ball in a snake-like pattern all the way up.
09:13Okay, this is rather time-consuming.
09:16If this contraption doesn't work right, this is going to be a huge waste of time.
09:21Is this going to work?
09:28We need to bring more ambition and more complexity to the table.
09:32If you get this to work, I'm going to be super impressed.
09:35So I have this idea to make this giant snowy sledding hill with a roller coaster going around and around it.
09:43And the ball keeps getting stuck.
09:50This could be a really big deal because if this stops the ball, it stops it for the entire line of movement.
09:57And so I'm trying all sorts of different things to try to get more clearance added to my roller coaster.
10:02Why?
10:03Why?
10:04It clears, but why is it bouncing right there?
10:06I'm getting pretty stressed because if the one thing that fails is our roller coaster that's not even a power function, that looks really bad.
10:13So we're good here.
10:26And we're back.
10:27And our teams are building great ball contraption.
10:31Oh my.
10:33I guess we still have a few balls left over from that bit before.
10:37Okay.
10:40That's not distracting at all.
10:42This challenge is the only thing that stands between them and competing in the finale.
10:50It all comes down to this.
10:54What are you going to be looking for in some of these builds?
10:56We're asking our teams to do great ball contraptions where we have to take a ball and bring it all the way through a model,
11:02doing crazy movements all the way to the end and move on to another model.
11:06Right now we need this to work 100% of the time and it's only working about half of the time.
11:13This might be our most technical challenge we've ever had on LEGO Masters.
11:19It's a really tough one.
11:20It's not just the technical side.
11:21It's also having to work with a non-LEGO object.
11:24Something like this ping pong ball, it actually bounces.
11:27It can bounce all over their model, but it's not a LEGO dimension.
11:31It can also get stuck inside their model.
11:33So they really have to think about this wild card going into their build.
11:36Is it going to stop by that peak?
11:39Good eye.
11:40But we also want our teams to have some fun in telling a story that makes us excited and actually rooting for this ball to get from one side to the other.
11:47So we got to make sure that we get the character in there.
11:51And what's going to be so fun is at the end of the challenge, we're going to start a ball and watch it go through all four of the builds to the very end.
11:59It is going to be quite the spectacle.
12:01This is a great challenge for the semifinals because it has a nice mix of some technical challenges and an opportunity to show off their storytelling ability.
12:09Oh my gosh.
12:10They have to be brave.
12:12They have to be bold.
12:13They have to try something we haven't seen before this entire competition.
12:16We really want to see all of these teams knock this out of the park.
12:20That's going to fall all the way down.
12:22Ooh.
12:23So close.
12:24We got a lot to look forward to.
12:26Also, I think we're finally safe.
12:28So we can...
12:30Oh.
12:33I give up.
12:38So, what do we do now?
12:40This is like...
12:42The hardest challenge.
12:43This is going to be like one of the more complicated mechanisms.
12:48Hello.
12:49Hello.
12:50What are you creating for us?
12:51It's all going to revolve around a little lost meatball.
12:55So we'll kind of roll across the counter off of the plate of spaghetti over there, past the kitchen sink, roll up the counter.
13:00As it gets to the pantry, where cans are bouncing, that will kind of lift it up and over.
13:04As it sits there, it will then lift up to the next one where it lowers on.
13:09And then finally getting to the last, where he will be on his merry little way.
13:14Love it.
13:15But right now, you're testing things in isolation, where it's a very controlled space, where the ball's exactly where you want it.
13:20I think just as a reminder, look for that thing that can throw the whole thing off.
13:25Because you just need that one little bump to be out of place.
13:27You don't want that to happen.
13:28This is a celebration that should hopefully win you a ticket into the finale.
13:32Hey, thank you guys.
13:34The bridge masters are telling us to ensure that all these mechanisms work.
13:37We've got a lot more to do, we think, but we feel confident where we're at.
13:40Nicely done.
13:41Thanks, man.
13:44We've got to hurry up.
13:45Okay, put it here.
13:53Oh my gosh.
13:54Our plan is to have our ball go through a horizontal conveyor belt into a vertical conveyor belt.
14:01We have never done a conveyor belt before, so this is definitely a challenge for us.
14:04It's like conquering Mount Everest.
14:06We are definitely pushing ourselves in this challenge.
14:09It's sagging.
14:10What's sideways?
14:11It's sagging.
14:12It sags.
14:16I don't even know.
14:18Okay.
14:19We are not technical builders.
14:21We are so stressed right now.
14:23It's falling back right here.
14:25Ugh.
14:26What?
14:26This is not simple.
14:28This close to the finale, there is no room for error.
14:31Let's just try to figure this out, okay?
14:33One thing at a time.
14:34This is definitely the hardest challenge and the closest we've ever gotten to giving up in anything.
14:41It's not going to work.
14:53It's not going to work.
14:56The biggest problem we're having right now is balancing the ping pong ball on the horizontal
15:02conveyor belt because it's very lightweight and it could easily fall off.
15:07It's sagging.
15:08I was getting frustrated and pretty much giving up.
15:13I need two by fours.
15:15Two by fours.
15:17Please.
15:17But Sage really took the leadership with this conveyor belt.
15:21Why isn't this?
15:22Because it's one brick higher.
15:24Oh.
15:26I love when you're in charge.
15:30We really want to prove to ourselves that we can make it to the finale so we can't fail.
15:35Okay.
15:36Birkin?
15:37I think so.
15:39Let's test it.
15:40Just put it in, please.
15:41Here or where?
15:42No.
15:42Here.
15:47You actually freaking did it.
15:49Yeah.
15:50I'm so proud of my sister.
15:52Like, she has blown my mind.
15:55Genius.
15:57Never gives up.
15:59I'm proud of you.
15:59Represent America.
16:01Even though I'm the older sibling, I look up to her.
16:06We did.
16:09It's a pretty big mountain.
16:11Yep.
16:13Hello, Cory and Rebecca.
16:15You're going big.
16:16I like your ambition and what you're trying.
16:17That's actually what we've been pushing you guys on a little bit this competition.
16:21Can you give us a little demo?
16:22Yeah.
16:22She's done a phenomenal job.
16:25Yeah.
16:25So, it's all over it goes.
16:27But it does usually go.
16:29Whoops.
16:30And that's something that you're going to need to really work hard on to ensure that when
16:34you are doing the final presentation that it does work.
16:37Because it does seem to have some potential there.
16:39But you can also see it gains momentum on the way down.
16:42What I would encourage you to do is set your speed.
16:45That's brilliant.
16:47Control the speed.
16:48We're going to leave you to it because the clock is running.
16:50And that's what gives us the idea to add bumpers along the rails of our roller coaster to keep
16:55the ball from going too fast.
16:57So, hopefully now it will stay consistent speeds the whole time.
17:01So, we put these bumpers up.
17:02Yeah.
17:02Those bumpers are actually doing something.
17:04And now it looks like it's finally working.
17:06A little bit better.
17:07Here we go.
17:08Here we go.
17:09Oh, well, that time it worked.
17:10I don't know.
17:13I think this will look pretty exciting if this actually works.
17:17Hello.
17:18Anthony and Joe.
17:19Hello.
17:19So, we've got a roller coaster.
17:22Will we see any more rides?
17:24This is kind of like those playhouses at carnivals where there's the mazes and stuff.
17:29I think I got at least the basic pattern on this.
17:32And I'm just trying to replicate it a few times.
17:35Oop.
17:36Uh-oh.
17:37Oh, that was fun.
17:39That was exciting.
17:40The big attraction that I've been working on, epic fails.
17:45Quite unpredictable, huh?
17:47A little bit.
17:47We need to do a lot more testing.
17:49Still fine-tuning on that.
17:51Yeah, because it worked a moment ago, but again, we want it to be 100%.
17:54Rick Masters, how are the teams doing on this very technical challenge?
18:00I really like that very fabulous contraption that Joe has been building.
18:06There's something a little bit off with the timings of the arms turning.
18:09It's not managing to catch the ball and transport it as he had planned.
18:13What the heck?
18:14And Corey and Rebecca are really trying to take the ambition advice that we gave them,
18:19and they're going quite big.
18:20It's the biggest model we've ever seen them build.
18:22Bigger, longer.
18:24On the roller coaster tracks, that ball just doesn't have quite enough momentum.
18:28Sometimes it's coming to a complete standstill, and that is not something they want to happen
18:33in the final run.
18:34What?
18:36If it's happening, tilt these up.
18:38But then we have Sage and Ian.
18:40They're showing their storytelling, and their polishing details can be quite compelling.
18:44We're going to call him the Technic Dragon.
18:46The Technic Dragon.
18:48We really want our teams to wow us, but that doesn't mean they have to have loads of complicated functions.
18:53Sometimes a story that makes us excited can be just as effective.
18:57It actually worked.
19:00Ben and Michael could be really strong at this.
19:01I mean, they have spiraling movement.
19:03They have up and down movement.
19:05They have conveyor belts.
19:06There's more risk for failure.
19:08First time that's happened.
19:10Kind of goes without saying, but I'm going to say it anyway.
19:13It all comes down to this.
19:17Keep it going, dude.
19:18You're almost there.
19:19Our table has got mechanism to mechanism to mechanism.
19:22There is no empty space on this.
19:24All right, I think that's working.
19:25We're feeling pretty confident we can pull it off.
19:29So we get into the food plate.
19:32Scoop it up.
19:34That's got it.
19:35Nice in the ball there.
19:36It might drop out of here.
19:38There we go.
19:39Yeah.
19:40That didn't drop out of the bottom, and now it's going to lift up.
19:43Can number three, can number four.
19:45Send it down.
19:46Send it home.
19:47Send it home.
19:48Everything's going according to plan.
19:49We're feeling pretty good so far.
19:53All right, dude.
19:53All right, dude.
19:54I think that's doing it.
19:55Two and a half hours left to finish your builds.
20:00What?
20:01Oh, my gosh.
20:03Build like your Lego master's legacy depends on it.
20:09Oh, my.
20:10We are watching all the teams testing, testing, testing right now.
20:15It's so important.
20:18Uh-oh.
20:18Is that thing going to tip right as it gets there?
20:20One, two, three, four.
20:24Oh.
20:24It stopped.
20:25What?
20:26They got to make sure that when it comes to judging, not only are their builds big and tell
20:31a great story, but that they work.
20:34Yes.
20:35And if in that final moment, the ball can't get from one side to the other, they are sunk.
20:42Oh.
20:43One wrong move on our model can just end us.
20:46We're not going to go to the finale.
20:49Oh.
20:49This is going to be almost impossible.
20:51Oh.
20:51Oh.
21:01I'm so proud of this.
21:02The story is great.
21:04Got it.
21:04Got it.
21:05Got it.
21:05We're almost at the one-hour mark.
21:08Oh.
21:08A trip to the finals is on the line.
21:12It all comes down to this.
21:15Hmm?
21:17You know what?
21:18I can't believe we've made it five seasons, and that's the first time I've ever said that.
21:24Huh.
21:25Um, are you sure about that?
21:28It all comes down to this.
21:30It all comes down to this.
21:32It all comes down to this.
21:34It all comes down to this.
21:36It all comes down to this.
21:40It all comes down to this.
21:46Yep.
21:47Yeah, I'm positive.
21:49One hour left!
21:51You have one hour left!
21:54It all comes down to this!
22:00I can't believe no one's ever thought of that before.
22:03Should we tell him?
22:05Yeah.
22:09See how it hits that?
22:11It's this thing.
22:12No, it's this.
22:13So we're really happy with our story, but we're having a really hard time getting the ball to go through the serpent's mouth.
22:21Ball, please help us.
22:23This isn't just a little, oh, nudge it, keep it going.
22:26If that ball doesn't go up that tongue, we will have to pick it up and literally put it on the chain.
22:34Okay.
22:35This will end the entire story of our build, which is crucial.
22:40We're really nervous because time's running out.
22:44That was close.
22:44This is very, very tense.
22:48Okay, let's run this whole thing again.
22:50I'm trying to make sure this is working.
22:51It's kind of like stopping.
22:52Should I take them off?
22:54Those are moving fine.
22:54This one appears to be a problem.
22:56We're in the last ten minutes, and the cans, they're not working right now.
23:00Gears are skipping.
23:01We've got ourselves a problem.
23:03I think it's worse.
23:04Ben and Michael are having some issues.
23:06Yeah.
23:06What's catching?
23:08I don't know.
23:09If your build does not work.
23:12That's a problem.
23:12There's a really good chance.
23:13Yeah.
23:14Yeah.
23:14That you'll be out and not make it to the finals.
23:17Devastating.
23:18Can't stop the ball in the middle of the model.
23:21They're almost into the finale.
23:22This is their last chance to get in.
23:24They really got to scramble to make these functions work.
23:26I'm swapping the big gear.
23:28The gear is too loose.
23:29If that's what sends us home, then that's on me.
23:32I'm going to tighten that up a little bit.
23:34I think that's too tight.
23:36How much time do we have?
23:36Eight minutes?
23:38I don't think I can swap that whole thing in eight minutes.
23:44Okay.
23:44I'm good with that.
23:46Okay.
23:46What?
23:47Why did that happen?
23:49Sage and Ian also look like they are absolutely stressed to the max.
23:53Just pray.
23:55Nobody wants to lose out on their place in the finale because their build doesn't work
24:00at the last second.
24:02Let's make sure that we're all good.
24:04That's very consistent now.
24:05This is the most unpredictable is this roller coaster of it stopping.
24:10One minute left to finish your build.
24:12One minute.
24:14You are so close to that finale.
24:16Van and Michael have just taken huge pieces off their build.
24:18I don't think I've ever seen them sweat this much.
24:20He's got 30 seconds to go and he looks very, very stressed.
24:23Do it again.
24:24Is that worse?
24:25I can't tell.
24:29Worked.
24:30Perfect.
24:30Don't touch anything.
24:3110, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
24:42Time's up.
24:43Rick's down.
24:45Wow.
24:50We did it.
24:51We did it.
24:52This is it.
24:53Our chance at the finale is on the line.
24:56Ben and Michael, how are you guys feeling right now?
24:58Kind of stressed.
24:59Not feeling great.
25:00It's 50-50.
25:01This piston mechanism works.
25:03And I don't want to go home, especially this close to the finale.
25:06Builders, you just spent 12 hours designing unbelievably impressive great ball contraptions.
25:13Now, before we see if we can get this ball from one side of the studio to the other, the Brickmasters are going to take a look at each of your builds.
25:21They'll be judging them on aesthetics and ultimately whether or not they can get the job done.
25:26Anthony and Joe, you're up first.
25:29Tell us about your great ball contraption.
25:32This is Escape from Mom.
25:34Johnny and his mom are out for a summer vacation at an amusement park, and Johnny decides to go on a little adventure on his own.
25:41The ball is going to go up the anti-gravity funhouse.
25:44It's going to go down the whoa coaster, and then it's going to go up through the flume of doom.
25:50Brickmasters, what do you think?
25:52It's really impressive.
25:53I mean, the fact that you have that roller coaster right in the middle, it is inviting us into your story, and I get the theming right up front.
25:59And then you're trying such different movement.
26:01I love the spinning and that you tried the different colors to bring attention to it.
26:04And it seems like a clever way to ensure that your ball is going to make it into what I would say is your hero item.
26:10That lifting funhouse, it's really fresh.
26:13I could have had a little bit more theming for the theme park.
26:16For example, make that funhouse actually feel like a funhouse.
26:20But overall, really great build, lots of ambition, and lots of exciting functions.
26:27Sage and Ian, you're up next.
26:30Tell us about your great ball contraption.
26:33This is the tale of Sage and Ian.
26:35Being on LEGO Masters feels like a fairy tale, so we wanted to capture that in this build.
26:42So the first book, you can see our minifigures are high-fiving.
26:45The second book represents Sage getting invited to the masquerade ball, and she felt like Cinderella.
26:51The third book represents the fierce technic serpent that Sage and I are very afraid of, but when we make it through, we reach the beanstalk, which takes us to the finale.
27:07All right.
27:08That's all I really wanted.
27:10I just wanted a live high-five.
27:11Yeah, we know.
27:11Brick Masters, what do you think?
27:13We really wanted some fantastic storytelling in this challenge, and what a brilliant story you have told.
27:20I love that you've made it personal, but you've also put that whimsical, fun, fairy tale layer on it.
27:26And then, of course, you have this beanstalk, something so magical.
27:30But you've built these tiny little houses up in the top that seem almost impossibly far away, so it's so fun to imagine the ball traveling up there.
27:38Considering how nervous you are going into this, I actually am really happy with the movement that you have incorporated.
27:43You're really relying on the speed of that ball and some gravity.
27:46It's a pretty effective way to getting to what I think is the most impressive part of your model, which is that dragon.
27:51Keeping it exposed, it makes it a magical dragon.
27:54Where I would have loved you to push yourself is on the creativity of the path that your ball is going to take.
27:59It is right now going in quite a linear journey, and it would have been really fun if it had a couple of twists and turns along the way.
28:06Because our function is so simple compared to the others, it has to work.
28:11We are literally betting our entire season on that ball getting into that serpent's mouth.
28:19Brickmasters, do you think it's going to work?
28:21It's just as long as the ball doesn't do something unpredictable.
28:23If it bounces, if it ricochets in the wrong way before it hits the dragon, I think that's where the risk really lies.
28:28Yeah, there's a lot of risk, and we don't know what the odds are.
28:31So you're just hoping that it works in that moment, right?
28:34Yeah, we're really hoping that it works.
28:37It could go any way.
28:39If it bounces, if it turns a corner, we are going home.
28:53Ben and Michael, tell us about your great ball contraption.
28:58Our build is called the Lost Meatball.
29:01And our story begins with a meatball who has fallen from the spaghetti plate into the sink, where his pal, the pan, and the sponge are going to scrub him back up.
29:11It'll carry up the grapevine.
29:13At the end, it comes off with his final friend, Mr. Cupboard, rocking the cans on top to push along the happy meatball so it can get it back on its way.
29:22You should be really proud.
29:23This, if it pulls off and actually works, is really compelling.
29:28You managed to take something that could be a simplest circular movement, and you've really elevated it to something that has a magical quality with that little escape hatch that you're dropping down into your next moment.
29:36And now building to the top, and you've put your most magical movement yet.
29:40All these cans coming together, trying to help this meatball get out.
29:43That's something very exciting.
29:44Yeah, Ben and Michael, I love just how much fun you've had in creating your story here.
29:50You've totally transported us into this other world.
29:53It's just really playful.
29:55I also love the fact that you've made characters.
29:57You've made the ball something that we're really, really going to care about, and we are going to be willing it to get to the end of your build.
30:03But that's where I'm a little bit worried, because I would love the story of the meatball to end in a success, and right now, those cans are a little bit of a worry.
30:14Fingers crossed.
30:14I would love to see it work, because it does just give that high-five icing on the cake, if it works.
30:19But if it doesn't, what a letdown to have it just at the end.
30:22But we'll hope for the best.
30:24What are the odds of this whole thing working?
30:27The last portion has kind of a 50-50 chance.
30:30All right, guys, great job.
30:32It looks awesome.
30:33We're pulling for you.
30:34Congrats.
30:35Thank you, guys.
30:36Okay.
30:37Corey and Rebecca, you're up.
30:41We showed up today.
30:43They wanted ambition, and we brought it.
30:45Corey and Rebecca, tell us about your great ball of contraption.
30:50Our build is called Hairbrush Inspiration.
30:53Lenny, our lion, is brushing his hair, and he notices how big his ears are, so he's a little self-conscious and puts on some earmuffs, which gets him in the mood for some sledding.
31:03So he sleds down a sledding hill and definitely needs a cup of cocoa.
31:07Once he drinks that cup of cocoa, he's inspired to travel to Costa Rica, because that's where they harvest cocoa beans.
31:14And once he's there, he finds himself playing soccer with the locals and scoring a goal.
31:20Wow.
31:20Breakmasters, what do you think?
31:21Corey and Rebecca, throughout this competition, we've been pushing you to be more ambitious with your belts.
31:27And you've certainly delivered that today.
31:30Not only have you gone ambitious in the scale, but you've also gone ambitious with your functions.
31:35You've got, like, five points of unique movement.
31:38You've got that hill, you've got the roller coaster, a dumpling bucket, and that crazy finger lift, and, like, a kick to get you out.
31:45It's wonderful, Wild and Imaginative, and it shows you weren't afraid to take a risk.
31:49Where I would push you is I feel like you didn't quite have the time to get those storytelling details as polished as you wanted to.
31:56So we've got some that are 3D, some that are 2D.
31:59It would have been nice to have a really united language across.
32:03Will it work?
32:04If I'm being honest, this roller coaster track, the spacing, we kept that spacing really tight and occasionally get stopped.
32:11All right, well, fingers crossed.
32:14Great job, you two, really.
32:15Good luck.
32:18I really think we did enough to get into the finals, and I'm just really hoping that this ball actually makes it through.
32:26All right, now that the Brickmasters have finished judging your builds, let's take this baby for a ride.
32:34All right.
32:34If everything goes according to plan, this ball will travel from Anthony and Joe's build to Sage and Ian's, then over to Ben and Michael's, ending up at Corey and Rebecca's.
32:51With the ultimate goal being to get this ball from one side of the studio to the other.
32:58Got it.
32:58You guys ready?
33:00Let's go.
33:02Our fate is in the hands of Will in that ping pong ball.
33:05If it bounces anywhere, we're going to be bouncing out.
33:09And away we go.
33:13And away we go.
33:29Come on, go, go, go, go, go, go.
33:31All right.
33:32You can do it.
33:32You can do it.
33:34It's in there.
33:35Yeah, it's in there.
33:36Traveling up the funhouse now.
33:38Come on.
33:39Going up.
33:39It's going up.
33:40Suspense building.
33:41As it's going now, Popeye, it is rollercoaster.
33:43Come on, come on, come on.
33:45Up and out.
33:46Come on, Johnny.
33:48Here it comes.
33:49Traveling down the track.
33:50Let's go.
33:50Let's go.
33:51Rollercoaster it goes.
33:53Okay.
33:54Get up there.
33:56Oh, here we go.
33:58Making its way up.
34:00Oh, my God.
34:01Going smoothly, very slow.
34:02Joe's got free hands going.
34:03Come on, Johnny.
34:05Come on.
34:05Is it going to make it?
34:06Will it make it over the edge?
34:07Will it make it over the edge?
34:09And it has it.
34:10Oh, my God.
34:12Made it through.
34:13Anthony and Joe's worked perfectly, and we're scared to death.
34:17We can't be the first team to mess up.
34:19Here we go.
34:19Ready to see Janine.
34:21Oh, my God.
34:23Oh, and it got through the dragon's mouth.
34:26I am so happy.
34:27It actually goes through the dragon's mouth.
34:30It actually worked.
34:31But it still has to make it up.
34:34The beanstalk.
34:35And will it click on?
34:36Oh, it is going up.
34:38Oh, my gosh.
34:38It's a lot of vibration.
34:42It's a lot of vibration.
34:44It's shaking.
34:44Oh!
34:46Hold on.
34:47It's a buildup.
34:47It caught itself.
34:48It caught itself.
34:49It caught itself.
34:50It fell.
34:51But it caught it, which is amazing.
34:53I can't believe it perfectly fell back to how it started.
34:56And it didn't bounce.
34:57I am jumping up and down like I just won the Super Bowl.
35:00Oh, my God.
35:02But it still has to make it up the track.
35:06You can do it.
35:06A lot of vibration.
35:07It stopped vibrating.
35:08Here we go.
35:08It's just a little double in.
35:10It made it through.
35:11Yeah!
35:12Meatball.
35:12Meatball.
35:13Meatball.
35:14Meatball.
35:14Meatball.
35:15A moment of truth, meatball.
35:17Covered in cheese.
35:19There we go.
35:19Made it through the plate.
35:21Okay.
35:22Spinning around.
35:23All right.
35:23Oh, yeah.
35:26It hooked it.
35:27It hooked it.
35:27It hooked it.
35:28On the hill.
35:29Here we go.
35:30Going up.
35:30Oh, yeah.
35:31Oh, yeah.
35:32We got this.
35:32To the cans.
35:33Fingers crossed the cans work.
35:35We're going up.
35:37Soul control.
35:38Who are you not?
35:39The steps aren't going up and down.
35:41The steps are not going up and down.
35:45And we're done.
35:46It's what we fear.
35:47They're jammed.
35:48And the cans aren't working.
35:50This is incredibly frustrating.
35:51Let's see if we can give it a little notch.
35:53Why are you not wanting to bind in there?
35:56Here we go.
35:57Let's try.
35:58Stepping.
35:58Step, second step.
36:00Say a little help.
36:01Look at this people going in, though.
36:03Get this guy out.
36:04Go!
36:05Let's go!
36:06At this point, I'm feeling pretty disheartened.
36:08They wanted us to build a great ball contraption,
36:10and we built an okay ball contraption.
36:14And now we just hope the story and aesthetics
36:15get us to the finale.
36:16Go!
36:17Into Corey and Rebecca's.
36:19Oh, okay, okay.
36:19Oh, no.
36:20Oh, my God.
36:22It's going all the way up.
36:24Not a bug, it's a feature.
36:25Now it's just going to land in the...
36:26Oh, it made it up.
36:28Don't stop, don't stop.
36:30Don't stop.
36:30Don't stop.
36:32Don't you dare stop.
36:34Don't stop.
36:35Oh!
36:36Oh, it just got stuck there.
36:40I'm super bummed that it stops.
36:43It just sucks.
36:44It's not moving.
36:45It needs a little nudge from Corey.
36:46Here we go.
36:47All right, there we are.
36:48Will it make it?
36:49Will it make it?
36:50Will it make it?
36:50Stay one more second.
36:53Oh!
36:53If it stops again, my heart drops.
36:56Because that might be the one thing that sends us home.
37:00A little nudge.
37:01Hey!
37:02It's in the bucket.
37:03Here we go.
37:04Here we go.
37:04We've got to wait for that.
37:05Flip of the bucket.
37:06And it's making its way in.
37:08That is very cool, the way it's going up.
37:10Oh, my God.
37:10It's very smooth.
37:11What's this off the field?
37:13This is exciting.
37:14Oh!
37:15Oh!
37:18You did it!
37:18Good job.
37:20That's awesome.
37:21Exciting finish.
37:22They told us to go big.
37:23We went big.
37:24We had to nudge it a little bit.
37:26But at least none of our mechanisms failed.
37:28Everything that was motorized worked.
37:30Hopefully that's enough.
37:32It actually worked.
37:33We're one step away from the finale.
37:36We are this close.
37:37We're so close.
37:38To reaching our goal.
37:39Which is insane.
37:41This has been one of the hardest things the Brickmasters have ever had to judge.
37:47So, with a trip to the Lego Masters finale on the line, Brickmasters, please give me the
37:54name of the first team who's moving on to compete in the Lego Masters Season 5 finale.
38:01You gave us some truly impressive builds today.
38:04But the first team making it through to the finale is...
38:08Anthony and Joe.
38:14Woo!
38:20What?
38:21Anthony, this is very emotional for you.
38:23Moving on to the finale.
38:24What does it mean to you?
38:26It's everything.
38:27I mean, we sacrifice a lot of time with our family to be here and putting what we preach
38:32into practice, like persevering, taking the task, and meeting it head on.
38:37Just getting to the stage, it's paying off.
38:40Well, congratulations to both of you.
38:43Thank you so much.
38:45Wow.
38:45All right, Brickmasters, who is the next team advancing to the Lego Masters Season 5 finale?
38:52The second team moving on to the finale is...
39:02Sage and Ian.
39:06I can't believe it.
39:07I can't believe we made it to the finale.
39:10This is literally...
39:13Our dream.
39:14This has been a dream of ours since we first saw this show.
39:18And to be here with my best friend, it means everything right now.
39:24Do you think that there's room for a really emotional high five?
39:28This is hug worthy.
39:30Okay.
39:30And a high five.
39:35All right, Brickmasters, there are two teams remaining.
39:40Only one of these two teams can move forward.
39:43Corey and Rebecca, Ben and Michael, both of you really pushed your ambitions today and gave us some incredible builds.
39:51But sadly, there were clear moments where the ball stalled during the final run.
39:55Ultimately, it came down to the storytelling of your individual builds.
40:00The final team who secured a place in the Lego Masters finale is...
40:05Ben and Michael.
40:13Well done.
40:15Let you know, man.
40:17Congratulations, Ben and Michael.
40:18How are you feeling right now?
40:19I'm stoked to have another opportunity with my bro here to take on another Lego challenge.
40:24Throughout this competition, we have had our ups and downs.
40:27We've always got each other's back, pushed through to the finale.
40:31Corey and Rebecca, I am so sorry.
40:36Sorry.
40:37I am so incredibly proud of my wife for being with me through this.
40:45And I feel like we left everything out on the table.
40:47And I realized that no matter what happened at the judging part, I was really proud of what we did and we could go home happy.
40:54We're always asking you guys to be ambitious and to push yourself.
40:59And that's exactly what you did today.
41:02It just makes me so proud.
41:04Thank you for being part of this with us.
41:07I'm really happy that we were able to spend this time together and make it this far and meet all these wonderful people.
41:14Sadly, your Lego master's journey ends here.
