00:00A petition is calling for New South Wales to be given an extra public holiday to
00:04bring the state into line with the rest of the country. Currently New South
00:08Wales has 11 public holidays between June and December but a group known as
00:13the Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association is looking to add
00:18another day in September. The new public holiday would be known as the Family and
00:23Community Day. Advocates say it will quote promote well-being and cohesion of
00:29our community. Victoria and ACT currently have 13 public holidays while Queensland,
00:37Northern Territory and South Australia each have 12 public holidays. Western
00:42Australia however still has 11 public holidays but its government says it will
00:46review its number. Meanwhile Tasmania is dragging behind the rest of the nation
00:52with only 10 official public holidays.
