'We're Proud To Be There, Sir': Pete Hegseth Praises Trump's Deployment Of National Guard

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth spoke about the federal takeover of Washington DC's law enforcement during an executive order signing event in the Oval Office.

00:00Pete, go ahead, please.

00:01Yes, sir.

00:02Well, Mr. President, thank you very much for your leadership,

00:04and the Defense Department is proud to be a part of this task force.

00:07Just like we have been down at the southwest border,

00:10where crossings are at zero, we've got national defense areas

00:12where we're working with border patrol

00:14to secure the southern border for the American people.

00:16Just like Los Angeles, where ICE officers deserve to do their job

00:20without being attacked,

00:21we're really proud to be a part of defending the nation's capital

00:23and ensuring it is safe and beautiful and working with law enforcement.

00:27And, Mr. President, let me tell you,

00:28the morale of the troops getting out there, talking to them.

00:31They love this mission.

00:32They're grateful to be doing it,

00:33whether they're D.C. National Guard or other state national guards.

00:37And at your direction as well, sir,

00:39it's just common sense to make sure they're armed as well.

00:41And so they were rolling out and shooting they're armed,

00:44capable of defending themselves and others if need be,

00:46supporting law enforcement, and we're proud to be there, sir.
