00:00So could a five mile railway line in the Midlands revolutionise travel here in New Yorkshire?
00:06A new report by transport think tank Green Gage 21 suggests just that.
00:10It claims the move could cut travel times between Sheffield and London by as much as 30 minutes.
00:15The key would be a short new railway spur linking the HS2 main line,
00:19which is currently in the process of being built, to the existing Birmingham to Derby line.
00:24Now the original HS2 Eastern leg, which was meant to go to Leeds,
00:28has been killed off by the Tories first and Labour have confirmed that.
00:32But this new report hints at new possibilities.
00:35And even though the economic gains wouldn't match the original HS2 plan,
00:39the reduced costs make it attractive in theory.
00:42Jim Steer, director of Green Gage 2021, has even described it as a national game changer.
00:47He says the connectivity games makes this plan crucial.
00:51I'm interested to hear what people think.
00:52Should a mini HS2 link be built in the Midlands to bring Yorkshire back into the picture?
