00:00More than 1,500 drivers have been hit with fines in the New South Wales Alpine region
00:09as police crack down on dangerous behaviour during Operation Snow Safe.

00:21Speeding topped the list with over 1,100 motorists caught ignoring limits on icy and congested roads,
00:28while others were penalised for failing to carry mandatory snow chains.
00:33Police also detected drink and drug drivers as part of the winter-long campaign,
00:38which continues through to October.
00:40Officers said too many motorists were taking unnecessary risks across the snowy mountains
00:45and urged travellers to plan ahead, carry safety gear and drive cautiously to avoid crashes and delays.
