00:03They're part of the macropod family, which means Bigfoot.
00:07Kangaroos can live up to 20 years in the wild, and even longer in protected areas.
00:13What do they eat?
00:14Kangaroos are herbivores, they love grass, leaves, and shrubs.
00:19Here's something amazing, kangaroos can leap more than 25 feet in a single jump,
00:24and hop at speeds of over 40 miles per hour.
00:27They are also social animals, living in groups called mobs.
00:32And fun fact, a baby kangaroo, called a joey, is born the size of a jelly bean and grows inside the mother's pouch.
00:39Kangaroos are true icons of Australia, strong, unique, and fascinating.
00:44Kangaroos are truly fascinating animals, and their biology is unique.
00:49When it comes to mating, male kangaroos often fight for dominance by boxing, using their powerful arms and legs.
00:57The strongest male earns the chance to mate with females.
01:01A female kangaroo has an amazing ability called embryonic diapause.
01:05This means she can pause the development of a baby until conditions are right for survival.
01:11After mating, the pregnancy is extremely short, only about 30 to 36 days.
01:16The baby, called a joey, is born tiny, hairless, and about the size of a jelly bean.
01:23Right after birth, the joey crawls into the mother's pouch, where it attaches to a teeth and continues growing safely.
01:29The joey stays in the pouch for around 6 to 8 months, and even after leaving, it will often jump back in for safety and feeding until about 1 year old.
01:40Another amazing fact, female kangaroos can produce two different kinds of milk at the same time, one for an older joey and one for a newborn.
01:48In addition, kangaroos are truly nature's marvel, from their powerful leaps to their incredible reproductive system.
01:53So, we'll see you next time.
