00:00From mechanics to locations, entire quests, hidden weapons, bosses and sometimes just
00:19really cool stuff, there are plenty of secrets hidden throughout Elden Ring. For example,
00:24did you know that rain affects your spell damage? Or that you are invincible for a fraction
00:28of a second when you get on your horse. Right now we've got 10 Elden Ring secrets that
00:32you may have missed. Some are useful, some are interesting and some are just plain weird.
00:37A few might even get a gasp when you realise what you've missed.
00:42That's right, spell damage changes with the weather, specifically the rain. If it's
00:49pouring torrents on your torrent, fire damage will be reduced, but lightning damage will
00:54go up. From what we've gathered, it's only a 10% change either way, but it's a cute
00:59quirk that can still make a difference in long term fights, especially for those who have
01:03a lot of spells to choose from. Continuing on from weather effects, any lightning spell
01:11or attack that hits a watery surface will have a little bonus effect, where electrical damage
01:16radiates outwards from the impact point. It means a single lightning bolt can hit multiple
01:21opponents. Keep in mind though, that this can work against you as much as for you. You'll
01:26never electrocute yourself, but it doesn't mean a crafty foe can't zap you with their
01:31own expanding shockwaves.
01:38Much like how combat rolls give you a brief window of invincibility, so does summoning torrent with
01:43the steed whistle. It's very quick, but there's a moment in the animation where your character is
01:48getting onto torrent where you'll take no damage at all. Applied carefully, you can use this to avoid
01:53fatal damage from single strikes, even in boss fights like the fire giant.
02:04You may have noticed that some enemies can inflict friendly fire on other enemies,
02:08while others don't, and there's an obvious reason for that, size. For some reason anything
02:13bigger than 8 feet tall will deal damage on any other enemy caught in their attacks. Including
02:19equally big ones, the giant swamp crabs, the lumbering trolls, any colossal dragon, these can
02:24all kill their allies just as easily as they kill you. Ride around on torrent and you can potentially
02:30bait them into bludgeoning each other. It won't aggro them against their teammates, but damage is
02:35damage and we'll take what we can get. There's a chance at night that players will get a rear
02:46weather effect with gold leaves drifting down from the sky, but it's not just aesthetic. The blessing
02:52of the urd tree means that players will get a small increase to runes earned from killing enemies
02:58while this is happening. Every weapon has a standard combo achieved by mashing buttons,
03:05but these combos actually increase in power the longer you keep them going. It's not a huge
03:11difference, but each hit does an extra few bits of damage and some weapons increase the damage more
03:17than others. There's a lot of speedrunners and pro players out there using this one. The quickstep
03:26weapon art and the bloodstep cause players to do a little rapid hop or teleport. They're not better
03:31than sprinting in most cases as they drain FP, but if you're trapped in a poison swamp or you're up to
03:37your ankles in lava, both of which will slow your character down of course, you can still move rapidly
03:42through them by quick stepping. Just hop to safety and give your flask a swig at the end to get your FP back.
03:48If you've explored many catacombs and dungeons, you've probably seen the raised pillars with imps
03:59spitting fire down corridors, and you probably also know that a good hit from a sword or hammer will
04:04cause them to retract into the floor. But it doesn't have to be a melee weapon, as obvious as it sounds,
04:09a damaging spell or arrow shots sent down the hall will cause them to sink into the floor as well,
04:14so you don't ever need to risk getting burned by the fire again.
04:21Standing in poison swamps is bad enough, so it's easy to instinctually start rolling through them
04:26to try and get out of there as fast as you can. But that's a bad idea, rolling in swamps coats your
04:32character head to toe in that poison muck, and so you'll continue to take the status affliction
04:38for a while after leaving the swamp itself. Use the quick step method we previously talked about,
04:43or look for stepping stones in the ooze to give yourself a chance to recover some health.
04:52This one's been a secret thing in souls games for a little while now, but if an enemy gets you in a
04:57grab attack, start furiously mashing either R1L1 or RBLB. It seems that any action buttons work,
05:03but these are the easiest to rapidly press. You still won't break out immediately, but grab attacks
05:09that do multiple instances of damage will release you sooner with a good button mask.
05:14So there's a good spread of facts and trivia you might not have known about Elden Ring. Hopefully
05:19there's at least one there that you can impress somebody with on your next new game plus run.
05:24And if you've got an amazing lands between detail or secret that might surprise some people,
05:28then why not pass it on in the comments down below. And remember to subscribe to GamesRadar on
05:33YouTube and I'll see you on the next one.
