09:27so good to meet all of you we created kalia about 10 years ago and really wanted to form a brand
09:34that is the perfect juxtaposition of fashion and femininity and function and i love how you guys
09:40have all styled all your pieces you got today our entire collection is rooted in performance if you're
09:45designing a look for pilates or run it needs to be able to function we believe there's beauty in the
09:51burn how's it going to work whenever she is doing a downward dog make sure that when you're designing a
09:56piece it can be used for working out going to grab coffee going out to grab cocktails with your friends
10:03it needs to be versatile so not only has kalia provided look books they've also provided all the
10:10fabrications for the challenge that's not all kalia is going to produce and sell the winning look from the
10:20winning collection that would be so cool to have a joseph mccray and kalia produced like i feel like
10:26it would eat down i love the idea of this like beauty in the burn so what if we have like fire on the
10:33runway like actual fire so you'll have all of today and part of tomorrow to create your fire worthy
10:43collections don't you love a one day challenge yes one day to do this as if there weren't enough

12:14got to pick a group of fabrics and all go with it y'all go with it we decided to call our team the house of
12:20lotus because we wanted to feel the zen within the burn and so coming off the last challenge being in
12:26the bottom our stickler was our cohesion so as we're going through these fabrics that kalia provided
12:33us we're really paying attention to what color palette we want to do so that we really nail that
12:38cohesion this time because if we miss it two times in a row are we gonna be done for i love this fabric
12:45that was trying to get the colors out of this this has all your colors once again antonio is choosing
12:53the fabric and i'm getting a little anxious because the last time he chose fabric we were
12:59in the bottom can y'all roll the tape back so the fabric that i brought from home is in pink so let's
13:05have the inspiration of our collection be butterflies that's the best one out of all of them i think we
13:10should go with that i don't like that no you like this better i mean i like this i don't like that
13:16either but i mean i wanted to start with miss joan i want to know it is what it is oh is the drama
13:23already beginning you know working with the twins you know they're a whole vibe but our looks have to
13:28be cohesive i love miss joan but she's a little little old school and stuck in the back in the days
13:35this fabric's so cool it's just more young i'll make it work don't use the fabric scissors you nincompoop
13:47i love alex i didn't expect this competition to become so connective so quickly and me and alex

14:00a lounge sweatsuit with a corset bustier top it all sprouted from trying to use the aspects of a kimono
14:10i grew up in greensboro north carolina but my nana was a tailor from nagasaki japan so i find a lot of
14:19inspiration in what the japanese call intangible cultural treasures but my mama would say that i
14:27don't bring enough of the south with me how are you feeling this week feeling great it looks really

14:40runway my design aesthetic is a combination of street wear and elegance i want to win project
14:47runway for my daughter ava it's right here having her change me as a person it gave me so much more drive
14:54and i and i do this all for her so i have to make this stand out and hopefully while the judges
15:04madeline what informs your work i'm trying to always like see things that i like about vintage
15:13fashion but then giving it like my own little twist what about yourself i grew up in like a hoedunk
15:19farm town i just felt inherently so different from the rest of my family the only thing i could really
15:24do was you know rely on my own creativity and imagination to kind of distract me from
15:31maybe not feeling like it belonged there did they accept you as you are like you know when i finally
15:37did come out they were like we don't get it yet but we just don't want to lose you so we're gonna try
15:44to figure this out i feel really blessed to be able to have my family in my life so it makes me want to
15:52really push myself to win this for them

16:05i do think the silhouette of this skirt you still have to figure out oh lord this might send me home
16:11i am a technical designer and i am a serious workaholic my family is jamaican and i've always
16:20been raised with all the elders around me doing multiple things even if it's not their job they're
16:25gonna figure out how to do it that day and do it so i have to push myself because this workout to weekend
16:31challenge is taking me out of my comfort zone i really wanted to do something that was extremely
16:37comfortable i think it feels a little too demure i think i made the right decision i was the one
16:45who fought to use this spring because mrs joan didn't like it she still doesn't like it okay so
16:49you did it again you wanted to print again everybody wants this print
16:57groundbreaking this circle skirt
16:59yeah i can cut a circle out right now and do this in 10 minutes really we're kind of not the
17:07exact same look from the last challenge but you're making a jacket and a jacket and a skirt a jacket and
17:14a skirt let me tell you a little something about christian seriano christian are coming to work room
17:21like are you sure about that or he'd be walking around like oh okay that little face be killing me
17:29with them glasses and that hair perfectly swapped it to the side the top being fabulous is very important
17:36here we should develop this more because you already know you can make a cool jacket i'm gonna listen to
17:40christian because i know i'm taking a risk but i do not want to be in the bottom again you got a lot to
17:45do i got you okay let's get it i'm kind of going for like that modern with a little bit of tron this
17:53sash doesn't do anything she couldn't do any athletic things with this hanging what are all these lines
18:04on this so i kind of want to achieve this kind of like texture all of these lines you're gonna weave
18:10the inspirations for this design is the khalia logo it's like a twisted string it's like very
18:17dynamic what are you doing it's going to be like a more like athletic fancy corset bustier kind of
18:28thing this makes no sense for an athletic look that scares me athleisure specifically is not something
18:36that i normally do unfortunately time is not on our side in this competition christian has his doubts
18:45about this corset but we're sticking to our guns hmm what are you doing i am doing an oversized hoodie
18:53which i'm thinking about cropping i did the pin tuck in my hand it's gonna have the same pin tuck
18:59and all over the pants as well so you're also doing a sweat oversized sweat oversized sweat pant
19:07in the same fabric is the pant wide like that wide you haven't even looked at each other's stuff
19:13and she's like right she's right in front of you honestly i really don't know much about what my team
19:18is doing this is it yes it looks very similar i haven't looked at the other designers on my team
19:25i've just been too focused so we just have a wide pant off on the runway in the same fabric what the
19:33like what am i gonna do next i need to think fast and pivot into some other different silhouette if i
19:38don't succeed i'm worried it might put me on the bottom so i'm looking at team lotus and it does not
19:50fit the brief that we got let's go underneath so it's gonna be the papa so we both have mesh their
19:56looks are looking a little all over the place i think that we're gonna take this one home i look
20:00at the other team it's like crickets in that side of the room no one's really talking to each other
20:06and here we are like you know blah blah blah and then at night she just puts a glove on honey

20:30this very cool jacket with a pleated skirt that's the top i think so so how does one do anything

20:55look is gonna go kapuz so different when i design on paper and design you you trend's pleated skirt it's
21:04really short i thought it was a mistake but it's not a mistake because mama i'm a slot you decided

21:17that shoe are you nuts what kind of shoe black whoa what now he's buying something that tic tac shoe
21:30you have no side seam there's no side seam interesting you can do that look at her butt
21:38that's crazy these pants are styled after a japanese hakama pant where there aren't really side seams and all
21:46of the volume is put into pleats across the back since we're paying homage to my japanese ancestress
21:55it's really important for me to nail this look that i make and i am feeling the pressure

24:15for calia that goes from workout to weekend you worked in teams and you had only one day to
24:21create your collection all right let's meet our judges cfda award-winning stylist and image architect
24:27la roach editor-in-chief of el magazine nina garcia
24:35and our guest judge and co-owner of the fashion line favorite daughter sarah foster
24:40i'm so excited to see miss sarah foster she has a really good head on her shoulders around how to
24:47make a woman feel beautiful and comfortable in the clothes she's gorgeous okay we're ready let's
24:51start the show it's gonna be flaming hot i wish i had a marshmallow this got flammable hair now wait
24:59a minute i told you it was gonna be hot and i was not talking about hans and france
25:10i do feel like i have successfully captured the essence of this challenge with creating something
25:20that goes from workout to weekend with the pin tuck in the silhouette the styling is really good
25:27i'm feeling really confident oh she's a professional you know you know
25:34i'm very proud of this look my look looks very modern sexy and fun and the red
25:40lying on the jacket is everything that is a short skirt but she's got some good legs
25:52i'm just looking at the outfit it's not as bad as i expected it to be but i know what's going on
25:59on the inside this fessy fessy i'm not happy about it it could have been worse it could have also been
26:08better i like that i would wear that you're very generous oh no
26:17with my athleisure look i'm feeling pretty satisfied i like it i think it's cute it's nothing like
26:23really shocking but i am just elated that the athleisure challenge is in the past she's got it
26:30this is what it means she looks amazing i've worked hard to achieve that details that those string woven
26:41by hand i cut all those holes individually it takes a lot of work to create that textile i want to make
26:47sure that every piece that i make is a labor of love i don't get that curly hair with that
26:56with that side fin it's flowing down the runway it's got movement oh it looks so good
27:04i would wear that now i may have slayed a little bit too hard this week so i'm hoping that it can pull
27:09this team through to the wind this look it's very universal this girl can do pilates and then put some
27:22heels on put a jacket on and go have a cocktail with the girls at night i'm proud of myself it would
27:27mean a lot to win this challenge and have that collab with leah coming for the crowd i'm gonna shut it
27:32down i'm happy with how this look turned out i feel like it's me and i'm starting to be more
27:42confident in what i'm designing and believe whatever i'm creating is good
27:46i see my look coming down the runway and i'm thinking okay yes even though i didn't choose
27:56this fabric i was able to be a team player and i think that she looks fabulous i love the drama
28:02this is the future you better own it i nailed it oh my god this is the moment

28:18my model is looking so everything and then she unzips this jacket and it's just like oh welcome
28:25to the party bring out the tata i took a risk with almost recreating my previous look
28:32and i hope this paid off that's my girl wow like i'm just literally getting chills the way she's
28:44walking the way that the pants are moving how powerful she looks i'm feeling great i could
28:51definitely see this in stores and see a lot of people wanting these pants wanting this bomber even
28:55the bag i love this our team everything was executed beautifully and i think that that showed
29:02it on the runway i am not worried about myself but it's hard to tell you know it's two different
29:10vibes so i hope that the switch doesn't come back to bite me in the butt

31:41throw on a pump or a heel and go straight to the weekend which that was the challenge thank you so
31:46much i would wear that jacket to the gym but then i'd also wear it to dinner that night with a pair of
31:51jeans i don't i i'm into you i don't know how else i can say it i mean i was into all of it i like
31:57your look too i like her vibe it stands out it's memorable to me she's badass and flirty at the same

32:10love the work that you did on this top i think it's really beautiful i love all the details that
32:17you made with the pockets correct and i love the fact that you considered an option she can be

32:31can see the detail of the skirt is really cool and it's a flattering waistband waistbands can go
