Quando approcci il writing di questo album,
00:09
just wanted,
00:11
I feel like we really put an emphasis on enjoying ourselves
00:16
and even though we put a lot of effort into it
00:20
and really made our decisions like carefully and everything,
00:27
we still, I feel like, wanted to be,
00:30
I'm not saying we achieved it,
00:32
but wanted to be a bit more laid back in the approach
00:35
and enjoy ourselves.
00:38
I feel like the clearing wants to evoke a sense of peace
00:43
and quiet self-reflection in a way that is not depressing
00:49
or anxious making.
00:51
And so, yeah, it just kind of reflects our process really.
00:58
And even though these songs,
00:59
like they're not all like super,
01:01
they're not all really happy or like some of them are like a bit introspective
01:06
and maybe even a little bit brooding,
01:09
but they're still just trying to be a bit more like,
01:15
I don't know, peaceful or something.
01:17
People started writing songs, I think probably when Blue Weekend finished really.
01:21
And so you kind of, you have a period of time where you'll promote,
01:25
we were promoting Blue Weekend after that came out
01:26
and we were all, you know, out on tour and people were doing writing by themselves.
01:29
And then we came home and the date was in November or November, 2022 at the,
01:38
someone just told me the name of the venue.
01:39
It was the last show we played on Blue Weekend.
01:43
So then we, I think we took like a couple months off or something like that, kind of.
01:50
And then we got together in a place,
01:52
a little studio in Seven Sisters in North London.
01:55
And we started kind of playing together,
01:59
just doing it really kind of primitively, really, to begin with,
02:02
and just kind of playing songs on acoustic guitars
02:04
and working on structures and melodies and the kind of,
02:11
the building block kind of things.
02:14
And then we went and recorded it.
02:16
I mean, you know, we went off to LA with Greg Kirsten.
02:19
We had a wonderful time.
02:20
He's a great guy.
02:21
His studio is amazing and he's very talented.
02:25
But you saying, how did we fill four years?
02:26
I'm going, how did we, how did that take four years?
02:29
But it did.
02:30
I always feel like after an album, it's like,
02:34
you're, you just like, something happens where you're like,
02:37
okay, right, I'm open to influence now.
02:41
And I'm open to inspiration.
02:42
And I feel like you've got to be kind to yourself with that.
02:46
Because sometimes you're like,
02:47
shit, I need to be writing a song and I need to,
02:49
but actually you're, you are doing work.
02:52
It's just like, you're just taking stuff in.
02:54
And so I just always writing stuff down in my notes.
02:57
I'm always like, yeah, just trying to watch a lot of films,
03:02
listen to a lot of music, go out a lot.
03:06
And yeah, just like be open to inspiration.
03:09
And then by the time you sit down at your piano
03:13
or sit down at your computer or meet up with your music friends or whatever,
03:18
like you, you've got stuff to work with,
03:23
like your, like quotes that you've written down on your notes app,
03:27
or like playlist of tunes that you're like,
03:30
I like this, I want to do something like this.
03:32
And so, yeah, it just comes from that moment, that collection of inspo.
03:40
If when you listen to the record, it's like, you can see,
03:43
you can hear the band playing in front of you.
03:46
And I think we've achieved that as well as having fun in the studio,
03:50
and not completely sticking, you know, leaning against the wall,
03:53
you know, is quite, is wonderfully cinematic in its own way.
03:56
Yet we still have the other dynamics on the record.
04:00
So I think we aim to achieve that.
04:01
And I'd like to think we've done so.
04:03
In terms of being a band today and looking back on the period of time where pop music
04:11
was done by people in bands and the really popular music, the preeminent kind of stuff
04:17
was done, yeah, in bands.
04:19
So it's, you know, really interesting to look back a little bit at that period of time and go,
04:23
you know, you know, what were people up to?
04:27
So, yeah, in a sense, you know, some of the music of that period was, you know, informed this record.
04:34
I wouldn't say solely, but, you know, it's probably a fair bit of influence from that period of time,
04:39
60s, 70s or even 80s and, you know.
04:42
It feels, I keep saying it, it sounds, maybe sounds insincere, but it is true.
04:47
I feel this feels exciting and like a bit of a first time round again,
04:50
for some reason on this album.
04:52
I think we've all got a real, we put the last album out in COVID,
04:56
which I think was actually probably quite a weird experience now that I'm reflecting on it.
05:00
I don't know.
05:00
I think we feel kind of similar to when we did when My Love Is Cool came out.
05:05
It was just like kind of feeling like we don't know what's to come
05:08
when people hear this record, which is really exciting.
