09:17vice president and head designer for kalia alicia scott
09:27so good to meet all of you we created kalia about 10 years ago and really wanted to form a brand
09:33that is the perfect juxtaposition of fashion and femininity and function and i love how you guys
09:40have all styled all your pieces you got today our entire collection is rooted in performance if you're
09:45designing a look for pilates or run it needs to be able to function we believe there's beauty in the
09:51burn how's it going to work whenever she is doing a downward dog make sure that when you're designing
09:56a piece it can be used for working out going to grab coffee going out to grab cocktails with your
10:02friends it needs to be versatile so not only has kalia provided look books they've also provided
10:09all the fabrications for the challenge that's not all kalia is going to produce and sell
10:18the winning look from the winning collection that would be so cool to have a joseph mccray and kalia
10:25produce like i feel like it would eat down i love the idea of this like beauty in the burn so what if
10:32we have like fire on the runway like actual fire so you'll have all of today and part of tomorrow to
10:41create your fire worthy collections don't you love a one day challenge yes one day to do this as if

12:09i just want to be cohesive i do like this color story situation going over here but we got we got
12:15to pick a group of fabrics and all go with it y'all go with it we decided to call our team the house of
12:20lotus because we wanted to feel the zen within the burn and so coming off the last challenge being in
12:26the bottom our stickler was our cohesion so as we're going through these fabrics that kalia provided us
12:33we're really paying attention to what color palette we want to do so that we really nail that cohesion
12:39this time because if we miss it two times in a row are we gonna be done for i love this fabric
12:45that was trying to get the colors out of this this has all your colors once again antonio is choosing
12:53the fabric and i'm getting a little anxious because the last time he chose fabric we were
12:59in the bottom can y'all roll the tape back so the fabric that i brought from home is in pink so let's
13:05have the inspiration of our collection be butterflies that's the best one out of all of them i think we
13:10should go with that i don't like that no you like this better i mean i like this i don't like that
13:16either but i mean i wanted to start with miss joan i want to know it is what it is oh is the drama
13:23already beginning you know working with the twins you know they're a whole vibe but our looks have to
13:28be cohesive i love miss joan but she's a little little old school and stuck in the back in the days

14:00a lounge sweatsuit with a corset bustier top it all sprouted from trying to use the aspects of a kimono
14:10i grew up in greensboro north carolina but my nana was a tailor from nagasaki japan so i find a lot of
14:19inspiration in what the japanese call intangible cultural treasures but my mama would say that i
14:27don't bring enough of the south with me how are you feeling this week feeling great it looks really

14:40runway my design aesthetic is a combination of street wear and elegance i want to win project
14:47runway for my daughter ava it's right here having her change me as a person it gave me so much more drive

15:04madeline what informs your work i'm trying to always like see things that i like about vintage
15:13fashion but then giving it like my own little twist what about yourself i grew up in like a hoedunk
15:19farm town i just felt inherently so different from the rest of my family the only thing i could really
15:24do was you know rely on my own creativity and imagination to kind of distract me from
15:31maybe not feeling like it belonged there did they accept you as you are like you know when i finally
15:37did come out they were like we don't get it yet but we just don't want to lose you so we're gonna try
15:44to figure this out i feel really blessed to be able to have my family in my life so it makes me want to
15:52really push myself to win this for them

16:05i do think the silhouette of this skirt you still have to figure out oh lord this might send me home
16:11i am a technical designer and i am a serious workaholic my family is jamaican and i've always
16:20been raised with all the elders around me doing multiple things even if it's not their job they're
16:25gonna figure out how to do it that day and do it so i have to push myself because this workout to weekend
16:31challenge is taking me out of my comfort zone i really wanted to do something that was extremely
16:37comfortable i think it feels a little too demure i think i made the right decision i was the one
16:45who fought to use this spring because mrs joan didn't like it she still doesn't like it okay so
16:49you did it again you wanted to print again everybody wants this print
16:57groundbreaking this circle skirt
16:59yeah i can cut a circle out right now and do this in 10 minutes really we're kind of not the
17:07exact same look from the last challenge but you're making a jacket and a jacket and a skirt a jacket and
17:14a skirt let me tell you a little something about christian seriano christian are coming to work room
17:21like are you sure about that or he be walking around like oh okay that little face be killing
17:29me with them glasses and that hair perfectly swapped it to the side the top being fabulous
17:35is very important here we should develop this more because you already know you can make a cool jacket
17:40i'm gonna listen to christian because i know i'm taking a risk but i do not want to be in the bottom
17:44again you got a lot to do i got you okay let's get it i'm kind of going for like that modern with a
17:52little bit of tron this sash doesn't do anything she couldn't do any athletic things with this hanging
18:03what are all these lines on this so i kind of want to achieve this kind of like texture all of
18:09these lines you're gonna weave the inspirations for this design is the kalia logo it's like a twisted
18:15string it's like very dynamic what are you doing it's going to be like a more like athletic
18:25fancy corset bustier kind of thing this makes no sense for an athletic look that scares me athleisure
18:35specifically is not something that i normally do unfortunately time is not on our side in this
18:42competition christian has his doubts about this corset but we're sticking to our guns hmm what are you
18:49doing i am doing an oversized hoodie which i'm thinking about cropping i did the pin tuck in my hand
18:57it's gonna have the same pin tuck in all over the pants as well so you're also doing
19:03a sweat oversized sweat oversized sweat pant in the same fabric is the pant wide like that wide you
19:11haven't even looked at each other's stuff and she's like right she's right in front of you honestly i
19:16really don't know much about what my team is doing this is it yes looks very similar i haven't looked at
19:23the other designers on my team i've just been too focused so we just have a wide pant off on the runway
19:30in the same fabric what the like what am i gonna do next i need to think fast and pivot into some
19:37other different silhouette if i don't succeed i'm worried it might put me on the bottom
19:41so i'm looking at team lotus and it does not fit the brief that we got let's go underneath so it's
19:53gonna be the papa so we both have mesh their looks are looking a little all over the place i think that
19:58we're gonna take this one home i look at the other team it's like crickets in that side of the room no
20:04one's really talking to each other and here we are like you know blah blah and then at night she
20:10just puts a glove on honey okay this do this like we're helping each other yes yes
20:17ethan i hate to tell you but you will be the losing team are you ready let's go models let's go
20:30this very cool jacket with a pleated skirt that's the top i think so so how does one do anything
20:39athletic in that top i think i'm over here eating it up and it's just like yeah no are we playing tennis
20:51where you tie your arms up if i don't come through with this bra like i feel like the whole look is
20:56gonna go kapuz so different when i design on paper and design you you trend's pleated skirt it's really
21:05short i thought it was a mistake but it's not a mistake because mama i'm a slot you decided yeah
21:14yeah i'm gonna do some nice shorts and then the cargo pockets
21:19that shoe are you nuts what kind of shoe black whoa what
21:23you have no side seam there's no side seam interesting you can do that look at her butt
21:38that's crazy these pants are styled after a japanese hakama pant where there aren't really
21:45side seams and all of the volume is put into pleats across the back since we're paying homage to
21:52my japanese ancestress it's really important for me to nail this look that i make and i am feeling

24:38favorite daughter sarah foster i'm so excited to see miss sarah foster she has a really good head on
24:45her shoulders around how to make a woman feel beautiful and comfortable in the clothes she's
24:50gorgeous okay we're ready let's start the show it's gonna be flaming hot
24:54i wish i had a marshmallow this got flammable hair now wait a minute i told you it was gonna
25:00be hot and i was not talking about hans and france
25:15i do feel like i have successfully captured the essence of this challenge with creating something
25:20that goes from workout to weekend with the pin tucking the silhouette the styling is really good
25:27i'm feeling really confident she's a professional i'm very proud of this look my look looks very modern
25:37sexy and fun and the red line on the jacket is everything that is a short skirt but she's got some
25:45good legs look at us now here i come i'm just looking at the outfit it's not as bad as i expected
25:56it to be but i know what's going on on the inside this fessy fessy i'm not happy about it it could have
26:06been worse it could have also been better i like that i would wear that you're very generous oh no
26:15with my athleisure look i'm feeling pretty satisfied i like it i think it's cute it's nothing
26:22like really shocking but i am just elated that the athleisure challenge is in the past she's got it
26:35she looks amazing i've worked hard to achieve that details that those string woven by hand i cut all
26:42those holes individually it takes a lot of work to create that textile i want to make sure that
26:48every piece that i make is a labor of love i don't get that curly hair with that
26:56with that side fin it's flowing down the runway it's got movement oh it looks so good
27:04i would wear that now i may have slayed a little bit too hard this week so
27:08i'm hoping that it can pull this team through to the wind
27:17this look it's very universal this girl can do pilates and then put some heels on put a jacket
27:23on and go have a cocktail with the girls at night i'm proud of myself it would mean a lot to win
27:28this challenge and have that collab with leah coming for the crowd i'ma shut it down
27:36i'm happy with how this look turned out i feel like it's me and i'm starting to be more confident

29:06about myself but it's hard to tell you know it's two different vibes so i hope that the switch doesn't

31:46much i would wear that jacket to the gym but then i'd also wear it to dinner that night with a pair of
31:51jeans i don't i i'm into you i don't know how else i can say it i mean i was into all of it i like
31:57your look too i like her vibe it stands out it's memorable to me she's badass and flirty at the same

32:10love the work that you did on this top i think it's really beautiful i love all the details that
