09:12so to give you guys some more insight into kalia we have a special guest
09:17vice president and head designer for kalia alicia scott
09:27so good to meet all of you we created kalia about 10 years ago and really wanted to form a brand
09:33that is the perfect juxtaposition of fashion and femininity and function and i love how you guys
09:40have all styled all your pieces you got today our entire collection is rooted in performance if
09:45you're designing a look for pilates or run it needs to be able to function we believe there's beauty in
09:51the burn how's it going to work whenever she is doing a downward dog make sure that when you're
09:56designing a piece it can be used for working out going to grab coffee going out to grab cocktails
10:02with your friends it needs to be versatile so not only has kalia provided look books they've also
10:08provided all the fabrications for the challenge that's not all kalia is going to produce and sell
10:18the winning look from the winning collection that would be so cool to have a joseph mccray and kalia
10:25produce that i feel like it would eat down i love the idea of this like beauty in the burn
10:30so what if we have like fire on the runway like actual fire so you'll have all of today and part
10:40of tomorrow to create your fire worthy collections don't you love a one day challenge yes one day to
10:48do this as if there weren't enough stress already the burn of it all
10:58ethan you want to see what it's like when you put antonio night together it's going to be game on
11:04and it's going to push me to even do better to beat him and then he's going to realize that he up
11:10what's our team wow team winner team winning no it has something to do with fire team burn i guess
11:30it's final answer i'm glad i put together a strong team i really wanted to equalize the energy of our
11:37group by putting all of the boisterous energies on one team i'm actually very happy that ethan let
11:49go jesus because i don't want another drama that was the one that i'm using like which one i can use it
11:55too and it could be hot to do the lines in the popular so we'll all have the lines incorporated yeah
12:05okay okay guys we need to start the cutting fabrics i just want to be cohesive i do like
12:11this color story situation going over here but we got we got to pick a group of fabrics and all go
12:17with it we decided to call our team the house of lotus because we wanted to feel the zen within the
12:22berm and so coming off the last challenge being in the bottom our stickler was our cohesion so as
12:30we're going through these fabrics that kalia provided us we're really paying attention to
12:35what color palette we want to do so that we really nailed that cohesion this time because if we miss
12:40it two times in a row are we gonna be done for i love this fabric that was trying to get the colors
12:46out of this this has all your colors once again antonio is choosing the fabric and i'm getting a little
12:55anxious because last time he chose fabric we were in the bottom can y'all roll the tape back so the
13:02fabric that i brought from home is in pink so let's have the inspiration of our collection be butterflies
13:08that's the best one out of all of them i think we should go with that i don't like that no
13:13you like this better i mean i like this i don't like that either but i mean i wanted to start with
13:19miss joan i want to know it is what it is oh is the drama already beginning you know working with
13:24the twins you know they're a whole vibe but our looks have to be cohesive i love miss joan but she's
13:32a little little old school and stuck in the back in the days this fabric's so cool it's just more young

13:39don't use the fabric scissors you nincompoop i love alex i didn't expect this competition to become
13:50so connective so quickly and me and alex bonded so quickly it's so soft it's so cozy like she's
13:57gonna be in it i want it i want it i'm making a lounge sweatsuit with a corset bustier top it all
14:05sprouted from trying to use the aspects of a kimono i grew up in greensboro north carolina but my nana
14:15was a tailor from nagasaki japan so i find a lot of inspiration in what the japanese call intangible
14:23cultural treasures but my mama would say that i don't bring enough of the south with me
14:28how are you feeling this week feeling great it looks really cool thank you so much i appreciate
14:36that you are absolutely looking at the next winner of project runway my design aesthetic is a combination
14:44of street wear and elegance i want to win project runway for my daughter ava it's right here having
14:51her changed me as a person it gave me so much more drive and i do this all for her so i have to make
14:58this stand out and hopefully while the judges
15:04madeline what informs your work i'm trying to always like see things that i like about vintage
15:13fashion but then giving it like my own little twist what about yourself i grew up in like a
15:19hoedunk farm town i just felt inherently so different from the rest of my family the only
15:24thing i could really do was you know rely on my own creativity and imagination to kind of distract me
15:30from maybe not feeling like it belonged there did they accept you as you are like you know when i finally
15:37did come out they were like we don't get it yet but we just don't want to lose you so we're gonna try
15:44to figure this out i feel really blessed to be able to have my family in my life so it makes me want
15:52to really push myself to win this for them hello hey how's the team going
16:05i do think the silhouette of this skirt you still have to figure out oh lord this might send me home
16:10i am a technical designer and i am a serious workaholic my family is jamaican and i've always
16:20been raised with all the elders around me doing multiple things even if it's not their job they're
16:25gonna figure out how to do it that day and do it so i have to push myself because this workout to
16:31weekend challenge is taking me out of my comfort zone i really wanted to do something that was
16:37extremely comfortable i think it feels a little too demure i think i made the right decision
16:44i was the one who fought to use this print because mrs joan didn't like it she still doesn't like it
16:48okay so you did it again you wanted to print again everybody wants this print
16:57groundbreaking this circle skirt yeah i can cut a circle out right now and do this in 10 minutes
17:04really we're kind of not the exact same look from the last challenge but you're making a jacket
17:12and a jacket and a skirt a jacket and a skirt let me tell you a little something about christian
17:18seriano christian come in the workroom like are you sure about that or he be walking around like oh
17:27okay that little face be killing me with them glasses and that hair perfectly swapped it to the
17:32side the top being fabulous is very important here we should develop this more because you already
17:38know you can make a cool jacket i'm gonna listen to christian because i know i'm taking a risk but i
17:43do not want to be in the bottom again you got a lot to do i got you okay let's get it
17:49i'm kind of going for like that modern with a little bit of tron this dash doesn't do anything
17:56she couldn't do any athletic things with this hanging what are all these lines on this so i kind
18:05of want to achieve this kind of like texture all of these lines you're gonna weave the inspirations
18:11for this design is the kalia logo it's like a twisted string it's like very dynamic what are you doing
18:20it's going to be like a more like athletic fancy corset bustier kind of thing this makes no sense for
18:30an athletic look that scares me athleisure specifically is not something that i normally do
18:38unfortunately time is not on our side in this competition christian has his doubts about this
18:45corset but we're sticking to our guns hmm what are you doing i am doing an oversized hoodie which i'm
18:53thinking about cropping i did the pin tuck in my hand it's gonna have the same pin tuck in all over
18:59the pants as well so you're also doing a sweat oversized sweat oversized sweat pant in the same
19:08fabric is the pant wide like that wide you haven't even looked at each other's stuff and she's like
19:13right she's right in front of you honestly i really don't know much about what my team is doing this is
19:20it yes looks very similar i haven't looked at the other designers on my team i've just been too focused
19:26so we just have a wide pant off on the runway in the same fabric what the like what am i gonna do
19:34next i need to think fast and pivot into some other different silhouette if i don't succeed i'm worried
19:40it might put me on the bottom so i'm looking at team lotus and it does not fit the brief that we got
19:52let's go underneath so it's gonna be the papa so we both have mesh their looks are looking a little
19:57all over the place i think that we're gonna take this one home i look at the other team it's like
20:02crickets in that side of the room no one's really talking to each other and here we are like you know
20:07blah blah blah and then at night she just puts a glove on honey okay this do this like we're helping
20:14each other yes yes you think i hate to tell you but you will be the losing team

20:30this very cool jacket with a pleated skirt that's the top i think so so how does one do anything
20:39athletic in that top shot i think i'm over here eating it up and it's just like yeah no
20:49are we playing tennis where you tie your arms up if i don't come through with this bra like i feel
20:55like the whole look is gonna go kaput so different when i design on paper and design you
21:02you trend's pleated skirt it's really short i thought it was a mistake but it's not a mistake
21:10because mama i'm a slot you decided yeah yeah i'm gonna do some nice shorts and then the cargo pockets
21:19that shoe are you nuts what kind of shoe black whoa what
21:23that tic-tac shoe you have no side seam there's no side seam interesting you can do that look at her
21:37butt that's crazy these pants are styled after a japanese hakama pant where there aren't really side
21:45seams and all of the volume is put into pleats across the back since we're paying homage to my
21:53japanese ancestress it's really important for me to nail this look that i make and i am feeling the
22:00pressure bye models thank you so much hello oh i have to take this sorry you're gonna be laughing when
22:10that little hem falls out i'm gonna tear it up i'm feeling really good about my look but what if
22:16your team doesn't but after the model fitting i'm feeling a little worried about my team alex has these
22:22grand ideas but she is running out of time and angelo's work is looking a little simple if jesus
22:29kills it then i lost a valuable player i hope that i made the right decision
22:33all right designers send your models to the ulta beauty salon
22:46we got three hours to finish up these looks and send these girls down the runway it's crunch time
22:52glowy dewy kind of thing i love it but maybe something that's been like smudged a little bit

23:10the last team challenge i think jesus was acting as the leader because he talked a lot

24:10you're out for this challenge we asked you to create a cohesive active wear collection
24:15for calia that goes from workout to weekend you worked in teams and you had only one day to
24:21create your collection all right let's meet our judges cfda award-winning stylist and image architect
24:27la roach editor-in-chief of el magazine nina garcia
24:35and our guest judge and co-owner of the fashion line favorite daughter sarah foster
24:40i'm so excited to see miss sarah foster she has a really good head on her shoulders around how to
24:47make a woman feel beautiful and comfortable in the clothes she's gorgeous okay we're ready let's
24:51start the show it's gonna be flaming hot i wish i had a marshmallow this got flammable hair now wait
24:59a minute i told you it was gonna be hot and i was not talking about hans and france
25:10i do feel like i have successfully captured the essence of this challenge with creating something
25:20that goes from workout to weekend with the pin tuck in the silhouette the styling is really good
25:27i'm feeling really confident oh she's a professional you know you know
25:34i'm very proud of this look my look looks very modern sexy
25:38and fun and the red line on the jacket is everything that is a short skirt but she's got some good legs
25:51i'm just looking at the outfit it's not as bad as i expected it to be but i know what's going on
25:59on the inside this fessy fessy i'm not happy about it it could have been worse it could have also been
26:08better i like that i would wear that you're very generous oh no
26:17with my athleisure look i'm feeling pretty satisfied i like it i think it's cute it's nothing like
26:23really shocking but i am just elated that the athleisure challenge is in the past she's got it
26:30she looks amazing i've worked hard to achieve that details that those string woven by hand i cut all
26:42those holes individually it takes a lot of work to create that textile i want to make sure that every
26:48piece that i make is a labor of love i don't get that curly hair with that
26:52with its side fin it's flowing down the runway it's got movement oh it looks so good
27:04i would wear that now i may have slayed a little bit too hard this week so
27:08i'm hoping that it can pull this team through to the win this look it's very universal this girl
27:20can do pilates and then put some heels on put a jacket on and go have a cocktail with the girl
27:25just at night i'm proud of myself it would mean a lot to win this challenge and have that collab with
27:30leah i'm happy with how this look turned out i feel like it's me and i'm starting to be more
27:42confident in what i'm designing and believe whatever i'm creating is good
27:50i see my look coming down the runway and i'm thinking okay yes even though i didn't choose
27:56this fabric i was able to be a team player and i think that she looks fabulous i love the drama
28:18my model is looking so everything and then she unzips this jacket and it's just like oh
28:25welcome to the party bring out the tots ah i took a risk with almost recreating my previous look
28:32and i hope this paid off
28:40that's my girl wow like i'm just literally getting chills the way she's walking the way that the pants
28:46are moving how powerful she looks i'm feeling great i could definitely see this in stores and see
28:52a lot of people wanting these pants wanting this bomber even the bag i love this our team everything
28:59was executed beautifully and i think that that showed on the runway we did go guys we did it i am not
29:06worried about myself but it's hard to tell you know it's two different vibes so i hope that the switch
29:12doesn't come back to bite me in the butt hello hello hello bravo that was a show worthy of fire congrats to

31:07for the second week i thought my look was really good i want to be on top it sucks so i'm just ready

31:24with the designer where we didn't have to guess a whole lot who made it and that is joseph without
31:30a doubt when we saw her walk down the runway we knew it was you and i think she could actually work
31:35out in this because of her little shorts under oh surprise surprise yay and she can throw on a pump
31:42or a hill and go straight to the weekend which that was the challenge thank you so much i would
31:47wear that jacket to the gym but then i'd also wear it to dinner that night with a pair of jeans i don't
31:52i i'm into you i don't know how else i can say i mean i was into all of it i like your look too i
31:57like her vibe it stands out it's memorable to me she's badass and flirty at the same time

32:10love the work that you did on this top i think it's really beautiful i love all the details that
32:17you made with the pockets correct and i love the fact that you considered an option she can be
32:25reserved with the turtleneck and she can be super sexy without it yep i mean i like that fabric as you
32:31can see absolutely the detail of the skirt is really cool and it's a flattering waistband waistbands can
32:39go very unflattering girl very easily whatever it is i like it all right that leaves us with jesus
32:47jesus i have to say this you have done something that a lot of people cannot do and that is to shut
32:56me up wow i was so tough on you on the runway and you were in the winning group and i was still tough on
33:02you on the runway i actually hated she look she doesn't look cool she doesn't look young i think
33:07this is so versatile i think that a girl could really work out with this yeah really work out with
33:14it and then wear it out on the weekend i would wear those pants in a heartbeat the pan turns into a
33:20straight leg pant she could wear like this i mean she could open up a little well done on that fabulous
33:27chic and effortless what i also love is the detail the fact that you thought about the zipper on the
33:34side can you turn around and that little pocket with that little black detail those details all matter
33:43yeah right yeah thank you nina i want to be this girl that would wear this thank you so much but now is
33:49the moment of truth they can only be one winner
33:57and jesus it's you you were our favorite look congratulations oh he's crying don't be hiding
34:03those tears i want to see them those are tears of joy yeah not only are you the winner it's crazy
34:13but that also means that kalia will also produce and sell your look and i'm gonna buy it

34:56win the challenge and do this collab with kalia it just reassured my purpose of why i'm here to create

36:24the silhouette i think is nice i like the length i like that it's not a midi and it's not a mini i
36:28think that's versatile a lot of people can wear that it's just really that's that's all i liked
36:32about it you guys like the ties hey i love dangling i think it kind of looks like a tampon i think
36:40i mean this is this is unwearable i also don't understand this girl i think the work that you've
36:45done i think it's quite beautiful but it doesn't scream active wear to me at all like i don't get
36:50it that's the problem that's the problem yeah you needed to make this a top a pair of black leggings
36:58and call it a day and you would have had a hit this didn't need to be a cocktail dress out of
37:04context all right angelo let's hear about your look um i designed men's streetwear so i just wanted
37:11to stay true to myself i think where you have to be careful angelo is that it felt to me a little safe
37:20and boring you really need to bring in a sense of drama step it up listen i'm a basic
37:27bitch so i love sweats i think this is cool i like this it's different you know i mean it's not for me
37:33but i appreciate that you added that detail yeah on sweats i think it's really well made it's just
37:39there was no showmanship to it yeah you know i think that's where you fell flat okay thank you
37:44all right alex tell us about your look so quite a few of my pieces are also inspired by kimonos
37:51i incorporate into the way that i create different pieces is that part of your heritage to kimono
37:56yes my grandmother was japanese okay so i go to the sauna a lot and i love a corset i don't care
38:03what the situation is at the sauna well obviously you're not going to wear a corset in the sauna but
38:09post sauna you can but you gave her a corset she doesn't look comfortable at all she can't work
38:14out in this guys the story has to match you cannot piss on me and tell me it's raining i'm sorry okay
38:21well the corset you're right but the pant and the sweater top i did like i liked the movement coming
38:27down the runway i don't know what it was coming down i was like oh it looks kind of like laura piano
38:30vibes laura piano come on guys turn around please no do you see the seam of the pant when she
38:39turns around there's the puckering yeah it is a struggle in the back there's a little bit of a
38:45problem with this bib that falls from the corset i think there's too many ideas put in the flap in
38:50the front the flap on the arm she's playing homage to her heritage and yes i love that but i don't see
38:56that in the look at all no all right there's a lot for us to talk about you can leave the runway thank
39:03you thank you thank you let's talk about angelo it is a tough competition to be in if you're that much
39:13of a minimalist because this is a show and you're competing with people that are going to razzle dazzle
39:18you have to remember you are in a competition you have to remember that give us a show
39:26vj's look was actually really good i hated it the ties were insane i thought the dress was
39:32really well made it was just out of context yes i would buy that it was the wrong story the
39:38sneakers with it is for me the worst yeah she has to really watch out for her styling because i don't
39:44think she's got it together and it's as we all know a full polish look that has to come down yeah
39:50it may not be at leisure wear but i hope that the judges will appreciate the hard work that i put in
